Goa was taken from the Muslim ruler Ismail Adil Shah by Albuquerque. Goa has been with the Portuguese since 25 November 1510. The Republic of India came into existence on 15 August 1947. Goa was then invaded by The Republic of India was in 18-19 December 1961. Goa did not have a referendum. Example of Portugal: In 1976, Lisbon redefined Macau as a "Chinese territory under Portuguese administration" and granted it a large measure of administrative, financial, and economic autonomy. This wasn't the case with Goa.Three years later, Portugal and China agreed to regard Macau as "a Chinese territory under (temporary) Portuguese administration".The Chinese and Portuguese governments commenced negotiations on the question of Macau in June 1986. The two signed a Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration, making Macau a special administrative region (SAR) of China. This is a grave injustice to the Goan folk not having any measure of administrative, financial, and economic autonomy. Examples of India: • In 1947, four princely states - the Nizamate of Hyderabad, the Nawabates of Junagadh, Mangrol and Manavadar - were invaded by Bharat, their rulers unseated and plebiscites held, by which the peoples of those states voted to be integrated into Bharat. • In 1954, a plebiscite was held in French India. • There was no POPULAR VOTE, REFERUNDUM OR PLEBISCITE by which the Goans decided that they wanted to be integrated into Bharat! • In 1975, a plebiscite was held in the invaded and occupied Kingdom of Sikkim, wherein the foreigners, Nepalese citizens settled there, voted to merge the Kingdom into Bharat! Now please help me understand: PROVE that there was any LEGAL POPULAR MECHANISM - Plebiscite or Referendum, (in keeping with, for example, the UN Resolutions to which Bharat is party), whereby the citizens of Portuguese India had freely chosen to have Goa integrated into Bharat OR admit that. Prove that the Chavan-Soares Treaty of 1974, which was signed by Mario Soares, a Communist bandit who represented NO legal or elected Portuguese government, and moreover, that did not CONSULT the Goan citizenry, constituted a legal transfer of Portuguese India to Bharat. Prove the moral and legal basis of Bharat's claim to Goa both before and after its occupation, OR admit that there is in fact none. Would it be right to say under Indian sovereignty, India is swallowing Goa. Under India, indigenous Goans are getting into extinction. Under Indian supremacy, Goa is getting de-goanised thereby losing its culture and tradition. Under India, Goa is losing its Goan soul. There are many Goans settled in Portugal and the world over who have great love for their beloved Goa. António Luís Santos da Costa, (born 17 July 1961) is a Portuguese lawyer and the Prime Minister of Portugal, in office since 26 November 2015. He is of Goan origin Portuguese from Margao. These Goans must make this as one of the election issues to put pressure on the government to think againof Goa and the woes Goans face under India because Portugal gave Goa to India on silver platter. Likewise, Goa lover Goans spread in other parts of the globe however small in number they may be, must submit a memorandum to Portuguese government thru the Portuguese Embassies in their respective countries. In Goa there is a big number of Goans who think in a similar manner and they must submit a memorandum to Portuguese Consulate in Panjim to convey their grievances to Portuguese government in Lisbon. In this way we must keep our issue alive and moving before it is totally forgotten.
We did not give, it was taken away. We did not have any way to fight off the Indian army and England, which is under Treaty to help us, never did, so if anything, blame the English! Losing Goa was like loosing a limb! It was our beautiful little gem, Portuguese loved Goa and still do to this day. ,I visted twice, and seeing what Goa used to be and what it became, is very sad!

Life is never fair, not now and surely not 500 years back. It's called as to come full circle. Under Portuguese rule, some minority enjoyed privileges while majority was persecuted. Now it's their time. So, don't preach about hypothetical injustice. Get adapted. Stop whining.
Portuguese ruled Goa for more than 450 years. But ultimayely Indian govt got rid of them in1961.Now it is for Goans to how to lead their lives and what govt they give to themselves.
Funny how in 10 more short years, 451 years of forced colonial rule would come crashing down. The Portuguese really screwed themselves by avoiding the issue...they might have been able to withdraw with dignity instead of being forcefully booted out and looking weak and outdated. I still wonder if there could have been a dual management of Goa at least for a few years with some token Portuguese’s presence for cultural and historic purposes.

>the reason Portugal did not invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty (the article about collective defense) is because it could not, per Article 6 Just to add some detail, because this makes it sound like a very clear cut legal point. The real situation was murkier. India opened its diplomatic mission in Portugal in 1948, the year after independence, and since that time had been negotiating with Portugal to end their colonial rule of Goa. Portugal absolutely refused to discuss the issue, claiming that Goa/Daman/Dadra/Nagar Haveli were integral parts of Portugal. In July 1950, the Portuguese Government sent a formal notice to India, saying that the question of independence "could not be discussed," and any Indian proposals for independence or autonomy were not negotiable. India persisted, and sent several more petitions to the Portuguese government asking to open negotiations on the subject of Portugal's colonies on the Indian subcontinent. In 1953, they sent a detailed *aide memoire* assuring the Portuguese that if they gave up their colony, India would maintain the rights, culture, language and customs of the Goan people and make absolutely no changes, except through their consent. The Portuguese government did not respond, and from that point on began ignoring all Indian diplomatic communications. The Indian mission chief tried several times to get appointments to speak with his counterparts in Lisbon, but he was refused. Eventually, India decided that its Portuguese mission was doing no good, since they weren't allowed to talk to any Portuguese officials, and closed down the mission in June 1953. Diplomatic relations did not resume until 20 years later. When diplomatic communications with Portugal failed, India began raising the Goan issue at the UN, which was more or less in favor of decolonization. This raised concern in Portugal, which began to lobby its own allies (mainly NATO) for support. While what you say about Goa not being under the purview of Article 5 is correct, this did not stop Portugal from raising the issue at NATO. In 1951, they explicitly amended their constitution to name their Indian colonies as integral overseas parts of Portugal. They continued to lobby the US, UK and France to support their position. It was actually the UK that put its foot down on the NATO issue, when their Foreign Secretary Douglas-Home explicitly told the Portuguese government that the Indian colonies were not a NATO issue, and they should not expect any help from the UK. The US was more ambiguous. While their stated policy was in favor of decolonization, **not once did the US ever suggest independence or self-determination for Goa**. In practice, their policy was "decolonization, but not for Goa". Not because they cared about Goa, but because that would put Portugal's two big colonies (Angola and Mozambique) at risk of demanding independence too, and that would hurt US-Portuguese relations, and therefore NATO. Since they couldn't afford to antagonize Portugal, the US put diplomatic pressure on India to "settle the matter peacefully and through consensus", and not resort to fighting. The Indian government responded by saying that they had been looking for a peaceful solution ever since they opened diplomatic relations with Portugal in 1948, but Portugal was unwilling to even discuss the issue. How can you negotiate with someone who ignores all written communications, refuses to talk to your diplomatic personnel? Nehru told US ambassador John Galbraith that if the US was really serious about a "peaceful solution", could they at least ask Portugal to talk to India. The reason this became urgent was because of what happened to Dadra and Nagar Haveli, two (much smaller) Portuguese colonies in India. These were tiny enclaves, where local *satyagrahis* launched a violent protest and drove Portuguese officers out. India promptly banned visas for Portuguese travel between their colonies, so Portugal was unable to reinforce them with troops from Goa. This incident told other countries that India was serious about removing the Portuguese presence, and more importantly, it gave new heart to the Goan independence movements. Mass protests against the Portuguese (which had diminished in the early 50's) were reinvigorated, and there were many protests in Goa in which thousands of people marched for independence. This made the Portuguese even more nervous, which caused them to react violently. There were a few cases where Portuguese troops opened fire on the protestors, killing dozens. One particular incident was witnessed by international journalists, which also swayed international opinion against Portugal. Meanwhile, India had built its own lobby at the UN, mostly with other former colonies, insisting that Portugal leave Goa. In the aftermath, there was a lot of recrimination, mostly from the US, which demanded that Indian troops should immediately leave Goa unconditionally. As you say, they tried to get military support to enforce this at the UN Security Council, but that was vetoed by the USSR.
The question was..Goa was not a colony.....fake riots for Goa´s independence payed by Indian Union....the world knew there was no problem in Goa..the problem was Indian Union ambition..India did the same with other regions in the subcontinent and even tried to occupied Sri Lanka....You just wanted to be the new colonial empire in indian subcontinene you thought you´re the new England empire in indian subcontinent you wanted everything for you!
@@jatingodhwani1916 India was not a country honey!!!! India is a country since 1947....when the portuguese arrived at indian subcontinent there was no country callled India.
The portuguese were the 1st europeans to arrive in India in 1498 . The brits only started to colonize some parts of India in the 17th century after Portugal deliver Bombay as a wedding present to the King of England that married the Portuguese princess Catarina of Braganza. After centuries the british took over all of India except the portuguese territories of Goa ,Daman , Diu and the enclaves of Dadrá and Nagar-Aveli.,that remained under Portuguese soverangnity untill 1961.
(Goa is sadly famous for its inquisition, equally contrary to humanity and commerce. The Portuguese monks made us believe that the people worshiped the devil, and it is they who have served him.)”. When India became independent in 1947, Goa remained under Portuguese control. The Indian government of Nehru insisted that Goa, along with a few other minor Portuguese holdings, be turned over to India. Portugal, however, refused. France, which also had small enclaves in India ( Pondicherry ), gave them up. On December 16, 1961, Indian troops crossed the border into Goa. Code named " Operation Vijay ', the move involved sustained land, sea, and air strikes for more than 36 hours; it resulted in the unconditional surrender of Portuguese forces on 19 December. A United Nations resolution condemning the invasion was proposed by the United States and the United Kingdom in the United Nations Security Council, but it was vetoed by the USSR. (❤RUSSIA❤) Despite this Portugal tried sending their Navy ( with blessings of USA and UK ) -and President Nasser of Egypt promptly shut the Suez Canal. Indians have still NOT forgotten such favours. Even today the mother language of Konkani binds all the people of Goa. Today india is the one of the most powerful country in this world and Indian nuclear missiles will reach Portugal.

Goa is no more Goa.
Example of Portugal:
In 1976, Lisbon redefined Macau as a "Chinese territory under Portuguese administration" and granted it a large measure of administrative, financial, and economic autonomy.
Examples of India:
• In 1947, four princely states - the Nizamate of Hyderabad, the Nawabates of Junagadh, Mangrol and Manavadar - were invaded by Bharat, their rulers unseated and plebiscites held, by which the peoples of those states voted to be integrated into Bharat.
Now please help me understand:
PROVE that there was any LEGAL POPULAR MECHANISM - Plebiscite or Referendum, (in keeping with, for example, the UN Resolutions to which Bharat is party), whereby the citizens of Portuguese India had freely chosen to have Goa integrated into Bharat OR admit that.
These Goans must make this as one of the election issues to put pressure on the government to think againof Goa and the woes Goans face under India because Portugal gave Goa to
India on silver platter.
Funny how in 10 more short years, 451 years of forced colonial rule would come crashing down. >the reason Portugal did not invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty (the article about collective defense) is because it could not, per Article 6
Just to add some detail, because this makes it sound like a very clear cut legal point.

These Portugese and British imperialist are still living in their colonial hangover. They want to use the resources and labours of the natives and treat them as slave, so that they can live like the Kings & Queens.
Indeed Goans successfully overthrew the colonial oppressors and got united with their motherland, breaking the chains of slavery.
Portugal high income economy
India low income economy LOL....
" ... and Indian nuclear missiles will reach Portugal." LOL

Jai shree Ram..

My dear Ravi.. Indian troops took over GOA from Portuguese against the wishes of GOAN people in 1952. Maybe the reason is because of Daman and Diu

It is nothing great that which the Portuguese have done. Rich Europeans quashed, inquested and slutified the poor province of Goa. They should've oppressed us much more and much earlier, perhaps we would've revolted in arms and been free much earlier. We were better treated by the monarchs of Bijapur and Vijaynagara. BECAUSE A GOAN IS THE FOLLOWING: RACE - DRAVIDIAN, CULTURE - GOAN, ETHNICITY - INDIAN. 450 Years of oppression did not add the word Portuguese anywhere in the Goan's social fabric.
You really are silly and the average Modi Bhakt one usually sees... I just read another foolish comment of yours and replied to it. Seriously take that advice and start reading about Goa's history. Anyway I doubt information will do someone like you a lot of good because to begin with you lack basic common sense. 😂
@@A_Goanpatrao read some histrory and then talk. Your father was silly to procreate you.
@@A_Goan Only a gloated ass like you will put people in modi basket just because you refuse to accept your history and are now enjoying your Portuguese passport. To you all those who equate attrocity to the paklo are modi bhakt? What a dual (citizenship) fodo you are.
@@A_Goan half bred and half read.
@@A_GoanPortuguese Passport will bias your conceited opinion on the attrocity of the regime. Call yourself a true bakt who did nothing but gloated on the benefits by skipping the pages of Portuguese oppression. Think about this when you coordinate cargo at Heathrow, everyone one who opposes your Portuguese duality is not a modi bakt but an Indian at core who fought on the Loc, unlike you who washes european dishes.
Very nice movie!
