I love the idea of reading as an experience because it's true! Not hurrying through the book so we can fill the Goodreads page. I'm sure you will enjoy your reading much, much more. Also, I would like to recommend to you the novels by Ann Radcliffe, I think you will like them very much. She wrote about nature in such a beautiful, sublime way. It's the perfect mix between mystery, horror, nature, adventure and romance. I have read "The Italian", "The Mysteries of Udolpho" and "The Sicilian Romance". I think they are good starting points, specially the first two. Slow reads, yes, but there is so much to take out of her novels. Reading Radcliffe is an experience!
To quote a history and a literature teacher I had: "If aspects of history/literature make you uncomfortable, then you should think about why that is and change yourself, not history/literature."
@@ririschannelx I'm asking you to reflect. What you read into something does not equate with what I intend or am attempting to communicate. I didn't see you critically engage with my comment/quote and I'm calling that out. I'm not being condescending, unless you take offense to actively and critically thinking about what I said.
It can definitely get a bit much with goodreads and everything else so well done on taking steps to sort that. I had to take some steps away and change how I made videos at one point and it really helped me
Lucy, I feel very guilty for this late comment. However, I believe that it is better late than never. This month, I have been reading two poems everyday. I am really enjoying Alfred Tennyson's poetry. I want to read Georgette Heyer's novels. Your videos are so reliably uplifting. I can completely feel your vivacity and spirit. You are the friend I have always needed. I love hearing you discuss the books you have read. I am excited to read The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady by Edith Holden. I finally started reading your novel, The Paper and Hearts Society. It is probably my favorite piece of contemporary literature. I find myself being able to relate to the protagonist and your writing style. You and I are passionate and ambitious. I love you
Good for you!!! I love long books, and once finished, I like to reread the long books or the whole series, just to savor. Soooo I do not touch that little button as often, as when I whip off those short quick romances. So, I try not to let that button control me. And, I continue to read those long beautiful books I can get lost in.
My mother just found me a copy of The Diary of an Edwardian Lady and I found a copy of Landmarks on sale at Bookoutlet. As for opinions on Heyer, although I don't read her, I do thoroughly enjoy my escapist fun fantasies and whodunits as well as more serious reading, we need both in our lives. And, as you mentioned, particularly nonfiction work that I am enjoying, I like to work my way through in small bites instead of rushing through them.
I want to read all those books. Thank you so much for these videos it's very helpfull tu keep sain during this containment times (here in Belgium) when we have to work from home sometimes, don't hesitate to make a lot of them :-) (sorry for my bad English, not my first language)
Did alot of reading mostly while Locked up or behind bars, but I've noticed I do not like fiction unless is was more philosophical based. I do love history and alot of studies of different old atlases too.
ive been wanting to get into the bronte juvenilia more since reading stancliffe's hotel but i dont know what book is the best and most comprehensive. glass town looks so cool.
Just wanted to mention it on here since you mentioned reading longer books, the copy of les mis you featured in the tbr (the denny translation) is abridged and overall not at all an accurate translation!❤

Derek Davis awful quote and plays down things in history that need to be called out
@@ririschannelx to the point where it is rewritten? Yes by all means call it out, but don't censor it.
@@ririschannelx so no, it isn't an awful quote. You reacted without asking what it even means, which is childish and irresponsible as a reader.
Derek Davis I know exactly what it means and I still don’t agree. it’s called an opinion. stop with the condescending attitude.

Any of the Brontës' works, told and published in other formats, is a MUST READ for me... especially the works of Emily Brontë! :D
