When they washed the bedrock for the keystone of the Oroville dam. They found a lot if gold and hauled it out in their hardhats, until a stop was put to it.
We live 5 minutes away from roaring camp mining in amador county California wonder if I should check my own backyard first and in the woods and old trails you know
There is a place called concow lake near lake oroville do you think gold could be there? According to that program you have there? Im not sure how to send private messages.
I live in Oroville currently. I might mention that you don't want to get on the property at Cherokee. But having said that people have found diamonds in the rough outside of the old mining operations. Bidwell Bar sadly is all under water , but it used to be a good place to pan for gold. I'd also like to add the Butte Creek just north of Oroville and just outside of Chico also is a good place to look for gold. Having said all of that....how does one find out if a particular spot has a claim on it?
First time I've heard about gold here! Hopefully I'll strike it rich someday on my 10 acres sitting pretty right along the shoreline.. no wonder I get so many offers in the mail! lol
That Cherokee caliche, is just a cool area to check out too. This area and the american river. And the yuba have the best gold in California 🙊🙉🙈 I moved there because its Central to the mother lode. In every direction. Is gold. But Ive moved on, with my regrets.
Most maps are only as up to date as the records they are based on. Since many of the records are derived from the mid 1800's or some even earlier I suspect 1.5 years of precision is not a big issue. For gold claims those can expire or be activated day by day. These are historic find data only. You'd need to check claim access with the local authorities (even county by county in some cases.)
I knew a guy who worked on that dam. He said they cut into a nice vein...which nobody could do anything about because they were pouring concrete over it..
Hay Jess, What are the chances of there being good gold in the material they removed from diversion pool that was washed out of the new canyon that was formed next to the spillway? Here's a flyover and good explanation of what's going on from blancolirio. th-cam.com/video/pAWAbslg2vE/w-d-xo.html
Well if you look at the video post above you'll see several nearby gold finds. The potential that there were nuggets deposited into the stream is pretty good. The problem is how much and how deep. There was a lot of turbulent churn just below the big rip in the spillway. There there's all those dredging barges. Again, since they weren't particularly efficient in scrubbing the river to bedrock there may likely be residual gold below what they took out. Unfortunately it would take a good suction dredge to get at it and only the state of California can approve that, until the Supreme Court weighs in..

Yeah, I can imagine, losing millions in gold, project delays and labor costs at the same time wouldn't go over well with the contractor.
Most of the gold was from the tailings they used to build the dam. We still have tons of tailings in and around the Oroville area.

Good point about property on general. Know the claim rights before entering anywhere.

Basically you can find gold anywhere in California.
That Cherokee mine area is all cliche. They had to monitor it to get the matrial to break up some. They lost more gold than they found.
