I see a lot of people confused about the "change of concept" and the lyrics, so I figured I would explain the context behind this MV.
Before every comeback, Dreamcatcher always release a "mystery code" - a picture with hints about the future comeback. For this CB, the mystery code consisted of a whole ARG with an X account (ymenehcra99, who also appears in the MV in 0:48 and 2:35), documenting the descent into madness of the user, who was obsessed with "the crown". The person running the account mentioned doing things like spending lots of money on luxurious clothes, chasing a truck with the crown symbol and almost getting into an accident as a result, and they even posted an audio of what sounded like an alarm, as if they had stolen something; all that in order to be "worthy of the crown".
This MV might seem flashy and superficial, but it's supposed to be satire about how things like the idol industry (and social media too) are not as glamourous as they seem at first, since a lot of what is posted is actually fake.
It's also critisizing how some people are willing to do anything to be famous and get attention: buying nice clothes and faking a luxurious lifestyle (hence the OOTD lyrics being so narcissistic and so "generic" - they're playing as the "villains" who let fame and power get to their heads/won't stop at nothing to get attention - and Sua and Siyeon posing in front of cars and motorbikes around 0:27 and 0:40), staging fake drama (like Handong and Yoohyeon faking a fight in front of the camera in 1:32, only for Handong to help Yoohyeon immediately afterwards), or even editing their reality to make it look more interesting or appealing (see for example the very obvious green screen behind the girls during the dance scenes in 2:55, or the multiple photo/video editing references, like in the very beginning of the video).
DCC really put a lot of thought into the concept, so it's a pity that many people don't have enough context to properly understand it. Hopefully this comment clears the confusion about the lyrics and concept!💖

This song is about narcissism, social medias and also, (maybe) the state of the music industry; big production, but materialistic lyrics.
It won't be a a trilogy, but a duology. And if you notice, the MV is pretty dark, and seems like a simulation, like virtual reality, like a parallel world. The eerie ending hints at the next comeback.
It's experimental yes, but it's also tied to this big Mystery Code/ARG that's been going on the past couple months. I'm really curious to see what part 2 will be about and if it'll be a counterpart to this song or a continuation. Either way, I think the song gets better with each listen. The album on the other hand was an instant win in my heart. So good!
I fucking love OOTD just as i love every other dreamcatcher song. They have shown us time and time again they can do ANY genre and crush it and I STAN ALWAYS
definitely a grower for me (pause). i feel this comeback people need to know the meaning behind it more than their other comebacks. the whole song and video is about narcissism, how much we see in the media is not what it seems to be, and to me it's almost as if they're lowkey throwing shade at the whole entertainment industry. if you put that idea in your head while watching the video, you'll probably see the message they're trying to show. not to mention the insane story and lore that dreamcatcher and company are doing with this two part series. it's so crazy and creative.
In any case, ‘OOTD’ feels like a big middle finger to the industry and how they’ve constantly tried to fit Dreamcatcher in one of them. But it is no mystery that Dreamcatcher are beyond boxes and labels. They eventually always do what is true to them and stick to their roots. And that’s one thing that makes us love them even more.
i think we just need to get used to it because they tried something different for the first time in a long time. maybe after their first win they must feel more comfortable to try new things and experiment different styles and concepts. i wasn’t really vibing to the song at first either, but i totally appreciate what they did this time 😊
it's about the lore in this comeback that's why the song is different to fit the concept and the meaning behind it
@@Sam-1999 yeah i get it. i was just tryna point out the song itself. it’s definitely the least rock title they’ve ever put out and that’s new! for a usual listener like me, for sure caught me off guard at first. but at the end it worked out cuz i know it’s a different lore now.

Besides the lore, I love the versatility they can show. Sooner to later they can get tired of rock and hard music, so they deserve a rest, and they do it incredible, it's healthy for a group to try new things
@@gabiszs Wut? There's guitar, bass and scratches almost the whole song. Not to mention the drums and how heavy the song is. The only parts that don't have rock influence on them are the "OOTD this my fashion" part (AKA the anti-drop part) and Dami's part. The verses, pre-chorus, the 2nd part of the chorus, bridge and outro have rock influence all the way. The song with less rock is Boca imo. The rock element is only in the chorus and a little on the pre-chorus and bridge.
I remember people saying something similar when R.o.S.E Blue came out
I feel like this comeback is very message oriented, even the tones they use, very robotic and mocking sometimes Narcissistic.
Like the robotic tone that sua and gather used while on their phones.
But yeah you need the story to go with the music or it just confusing,it’s amazing what they are doing, taking shots at the entertainment industry with this TitleTrack.
Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love the song and how deep they went with the story here. 🎉

I for one loved it! But I always preferred their heavier edm leaning tracks. For me, Dami's rap always explains what the song is about. Once an idol hits that red carpet they feel like they're "on another level, not gonna hide it anymore (narcissistic) driving drunk, don't you feel like a monster?" It's talking about how fake the industry is. Yoohyeon says "gonna catch your attention then wait till you know" is like I'm gonna hook you in with this drivel about popping champagne etc I know is popular and then deliver that underlying message of, all this $#!t is FAKE. Then she comes in with the RISE above all this superficial $#!t, they're just dancing there in a plain black pants and white shirt and can't even see their faces because they're behind a cap. And we the public have created this fake crown that they're all vying for but it doesn't even exist! Meanwhile Handong's bruised legs show how they're all battered and bruised from all their hard work but just slap on a pretty dress and get distracted by the bling and it's fine. Gahyeon then says "are you ready to start this game?" The song is only the first layer of the project, the game is to find the meaning and go deeper 🤯 The chorus simplicity "OOTD THIS MY FASHION SHUT UP NO MORE QUESTIONS" is like, I'm just a celebrity I have nothing of value to input, here's my outfit, don't ask me any important questions on anything that really matters 🤯 (that only took about 35 plays to decipher 🤣) I think that when the next part comes out it will complete the story and concept. There is so much more with ymenehcra and Shasha... 🤔
The "drunken every day" part could also mean drunk off of the attention, at least that's how I'm interpreting it.

I seem to recall seeing her in pigtails before but I couldn't tell you where or when. I could also be way off. I do know she's had twin braids, but they were down not up, and space buns. But pigtails? I'm going to go with a 'definite maybe'.
Trust me, it only needs 30+ listen and once you get the gist of the concept and understand why this song is what it is, you will love it. I really did not enjoy much of it at first, as well, but I love it by now.

At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song.
The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.
The girls were SO excited about this one! It is very different, and I think that is what excites them at this stage. It's still rock (elements of several rock subgenres here). I think it grows on most people who didn't love it immediately like me.
This song IS badass. It has so much meaning to It that It seems. Its like a f*** u to the industry where they show only what they want. Yoohyeon and Handong's fight IS fake, Siyeon's ona car IS a Green Screen, Handong posing but only the upper body IS shown but she has bruises on her legs, Jiu in a box like shes a commertial object, they were in caps and leather jackets and the background IS shiney but once the camera IS not recording they dress basic and the whole background IS a Green Screen. And finally, they shut the camera and they dissapear. I can't wait for the Next Comeback where they show what they meant with this video

They’re smart doing a sound like this - it’s new for them, allows them to be sexy baddies like they want to be, without losing their rock influence… while still playing with social messaging about vanity/narcissism/influencers and the dangers of it all. It’s definitely tongue-in-cheek and playing into tropes that are popular in Kpop. And they still get to look and sound phenomenal. Recommend watching the lives, they absolutely slay.
The title track and album is definitely more experimental. It’s different for them - it’s an immediate yes upon first listen for me, but you’re not alone it was a grower for some.

Back when Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye came out - even then people said that they were experimenting with their sound. And it actually paid off because that trilogy was incredible. I am glad they are experimenting even more because it would be tough to feel pigeon held by a specific concept just because that’s what people know you for. I’m just the girls would like to be able to create music in different genres as well.
I can understand why it would take people a few listens for them to like it. I personally loved it right away when it started, than they lost me a bit in the first chorus but then picked up again. Now I love everything about it. I will always prefer their eerie/crazy concepts though.

It's like you guys said at the end. I think this feeling is so strange because we are used to getting hooked on DC's songs from the first listen and that didn't happen now, BUT don't worry cause after a couple more listens you start enjoying the song. You must both remember that Dreamcatcher era most of the time are trilogy with a main theme, like Maison, Vision and Bon Voyage was about protecting earth and Nature. OOTD(Oufit Of The Day) is a new era with a new theme so it's normal that its different, like it's normal that Dreamcatcher music and songs change and evolve. Every artists want and need to try new things, genre and concept and experiment risky things and we all know that Dreamcatcher can slay any genre or concept.
Me, i'm very happy that our ladies can do it and still slay and for me the best artists is the one who can do any genres or concepts from Rock or Metal to Pop, to Hip-hop to EDM and be able to slay. Also Dreamcatcher is even better because they can mix all genre and still slay.
For me, that song is maybe different a little but it still have that dreamcatcher signature in it and for me it's one of their best title track and a total BOP. As what the new theme is, i will let you guess as me i got a rather good idea of it.
