The attitude is an expression of narcissism.

When I first listened to OOTD, I thought the song was so amazing and great, by the way, it was different from what I had expected, so I felt unfamiliar a little. But, the second and third... As I listened to it, I see myself quickly falling into the magic of another Dreamcatcher as I always did. Surely, Dreamcatcher is Dreamcatcher ! 👍

For me Dami's rap always explains what the song is about. Once an idol hits that red carpet they feel like they're "on another level, not gonna hide it anymore (narcissistic) driving drunk, looking for my life, don't you feel like a monster?" It's about the bad side of fame and how fake the industry is and how idols are just a commodity. Yoohyeon says "gonna catch your attention then wait till you know" is like I'm gonna hook you in with this drivel about popping champagne etc I know is popular and then deliver that underlying message of, all this $#!t is FAKE. Then she comes in with the RISE above all this superficial stuff, they're just dancing there in a plain black and white shirt and can't even see their faces because they're behind a cap and when you can see their faces their makeup is pretty simple. And we the public have created this fake crown that they're all vying for but it doesn't even exist! Meanwhile Handongs bruised legs show how they're all battered and bruised from all their hard work but just slap on a pretty dress and get distracted by the bling and it's fine. Gahyeon then says "shall we start this game?" The song is only the first layer of the project, the game is to find the meaning and go deeper 🤯 The chorus simplicity "OOTD THIS MY FASHION SHUT UP NO MORE QUESTIONS" is like, I'm just a celebrity I have nothing of value to input, here's my outfit, don't ask me any important questions on anything that really matters 🤯 (that only took about 35 plays to decipher 🤣) I do think the next release will complete the puzzle. Theres nuggets of clues linking all the songs. "Beauty is dangerous" from RISING and I believe Nephthys goddess of air influenced the line "the flow of air that led us it will always remain" from RISING as well.

At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well.
The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

Someone in the comments also pointed out, that the theme of something "artificial" (like the 3D-rendered crown, fighting on-cam but being friends off-cam and the always appearing edit-overlay) is quite present. Might show us the side of the "fake" reality we consume on every media and taking it as granted- something like that^^

I also had a similar mixed reaction to the MV until I started reading about all of the spoiler content leading up to the release of OOTD. There are a lot of hints in this MV that aren’t really noticed at first glance, such as the bruises on Han Dong’s legs (while she looks flawless from the waist up), or the “fake fight” between Han Dong and Yoohyeon while the camera is rolling that previous posters have mentioned. Your other subscribers have pointed out a lot of clues on how this is a hidden critique on the current K-Pop industry, but I would also like to point out how there are certain parts of the choreography that also seem to hint at specific groups (STAYC, ITZY, and Aespa to name a few… It’ll be crazy if we get to a point in K-Pop where there are “diss tracks”, but honestly, I don’t think that Dreamcatcher is targeting these groups in particular but the K-Pop world as a whole.). They are just wishing that the industry can rise above the vanity and let the audience understand that idols are not perfect, spotless, or flawless. They are humans too with feelings and emotions. They make mistakes and suffer from things like depression as well. It will be crazy if the second song in this trilogy tackles tough subjects like idols being canceled or idols committing suicide while the industry just churns out new replacement idols to take their place.

I recommend listening to this song several more times while paying close attention to the music video. First listen I thought, "Really, a girl crush concept? Is that it?" It seemed like such a departure, but upon second and third listening I started to realize the true brilliance of this song. It is a deconstruction/critique of the kpop industry. It is a satire, ramping the girl crush/self-confidence concept up to eleven (spinal tap reference) until it becomes narcissistic self-adulation. The entire video is framed by the editing process, the staging of a music video, shining a light on how fake the whole process is, and by extension how fake the industry is, especially the girl crush concept (which has been the fashion in kpop recently, hence Outfit Of The Day). It's quickly become one of my favorite title tracks, and the rest of the album is really good too.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
haha you're not the only ones. you can take the song as satire directed at certain aspects of entertainment. the album title is villains so maybe they are playing the bad side here. the bsides are equally interesting.

This was definitely different then their usual stuff and yet I still get the Dreamcatcher vibe from it. I loved it from the first listen. Then I started looking up the hidden meanings in the MV and song and I love it even more now.

They became the villains in the new Lore. It's a satire song, poking fun at the industry & some narcissistic social influencer/ celebrity out there. Through the narcissistic & cringy lyrics, they're like mocking the negative culture in the entertainment industry. Even Handong part right here 2:34 you can see her leg full of bruises, a subtle message to certain K-pop company that being abusive to their idols.

Reading between the lines this is a massive middle finger to the entertainment music industry where everything is edited, faked, staged. Where idols always need to look perfect and shiny. Where everything is superficial and all about looks. Fortunately the message is not too obvious so they can actually perform it. But the fact that this track has reached rank 23 in Korea while rank 2 worldwide says a lot :D :D
