You never disappoint, you have a very unique way of involving the beginner to make painting a fun and relatively easy project. Thank you for being so easy to follow by being humble enough to show what mistakes we make are the same as you make but not to fret, just paint your way out of them. That is very comforting for those that may become frustrated at not being able to copy what you achieve by you pointing out that each person develop their own techniques and style by trial and error and watching these videos and learning from them. Practice, practice and more practice along with freedom of experimenting goes a long way in developing the confidence to make mistakes but learn from them. It has helped me tremendously, so thank you again and again.
I am a painting noob. This video was a great help as I have been inundated with brushes during my research. They way you covered these brushes use and care made it easy for me to understand. Your voice is pleasant and easy to listen to. So Thank You, I will check out any other videos you have done. My plan is to learn landscape painting. I used to work with glass both stained glass and warm glass (fusing glass in a kiln). My favorite panels were of landscapes. Landscapes are much harder with warm glass technique because instead of loading a brush with powdered glass you have to lay the colored glass powder on the back glass panel and push the powder into shape. Because of this you can't lay all the glass down at once. You have to do it in layers fusing each layer before you add the next layer. This could easily require 8 to 15 layers per panel.
You are an inspiration to me. I have painted a long time but have learnt more watching you than anywhere else. no teachers liked my way of painting so I left. now i paint my way following your tutorials.fantastic and clear and very doable"""I think thats a word. thank you for inspiring me to paint again and have faith in my art work.I am a gestural painter love big strokes and big canvases/. thank you
Thank you for doing a video on the basic use of and care of brushes. I'm not a raw beginner but I still have a lot to learn _ or re-learn in my case. Thanks for covering the basics in a very clear straight forward way.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! At the age of 59, I began panting rocks but became interested in acrylic canvas panting. I've gotten nowhere in a year and realized that part of my issue is how to manipulate the brushes. I just couldn't get the pressure if my hand right and didn't know which brush to use. This helped so much! Thanks again!
I appreciate you making a video like this. Even though I’m in my 50s I have never really painted before unless you include the bathroom that I painted. Your descriptions are well covered with a clear speaking voice. I look forward to watching more of your videos
I have never painted "pictures" in my life. I have painted walls, furniture etc. I love the result of seeing the finished product, but I'm not able to paint walls as much any more due to age. lol. however, I have watched your tutorials and got the courage to paint along. The first one I did was your summer flowers on an old fence. I was so amazed that by following your advice and technique It actually turned out looking "pretty good" since then I have painted with several of your tutorial. I'm such a fan. You have converted me to a painter. Thanks so much to my new passion.
I am learning how to take better care of painting brushes Thank you for teaching me how to take care of them from now on because they are expensive I’ve always enjoy Your teachings You’ve helped me a lot because I am deaf as I am learning the hard way but each time I watch your teaching so I am improving THANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU 🎨👵🏼🤟🏻
I have watched many videos for beginning artists, but you are by far the best teacher!! You take time to explain everything, which is exactly what beginning artists need. I love that your videos focus on a few things at a time and are short. Allows people to practise each lesson. You rock, Jane!!
my name is Cecil from Sweden and just want to tell you how happy Iam to find you. im a beginner too. and thank you for sharing hoping to learn a lot from your tutorials which i will follow. your teachings are so clear and easy to understand. looking forward to see all your tutorials. i love taking pictures of clouds sun , moon ..heavenly bodies and nature too which i dream to paint in canva. thank you very much. god bless:)
So many videos on painting are all about different steps, and assume different things, but this is really interesting, because it's where the most basic of practice should be and should start: paint handling, and internalized as best you can, so you can move onto further stuff. Great! I can see why so many people despair and rush to digital, when maybe they would benefit from more instruction like this as a primer, and I'm mainly talking about myself. Thanks!
I second the previous comment. I've been playing around with 'DIY chalk paint' a little on my channel, and I now want to paint my first canvas and show others that they can do it too. I did want to know a few visits first and this helped immensely thank you. Certainly wasn't basic either.
Just started painting and this video was Godsend. For the life of me I couldn't understand how to use the angle brush. Your explanation and example cleared it all up. Thank you!
I'm new to painting and I've been struggling with the finer lines using the angle and round brushes. Thanks so much for this video, you are so helpful and encouraging!
My mother taught painting classes. She taught me to use dish liquid, after cleaning your good artist brushes, to keep them shaped. You just draw your paint brushes through a little dish liquid and shape them. Your brushes will harden, and once dipped in water they spring right back. I've always used that method to keep my brushes shaped. It also keeps any paint that is left behind in your brushes from hardening into the bristles and ferrule. I've got brushes that I've had for over 20 years that I still use, (and they still have their spring and shape,) by using dish liquid to clean and shape them.
Thankyou for sharing this. I am a beginner and am learning from watching videos on youtube. That sounds like a genius idea and makes perfect sense to me! The best advice I have seen. I can't wait to try this, so I'm going to go paint something!!
I used to paint with oil and water color. About 50 years ago. I was in high school. Lol I am dating myself. But I have wanted to get back into painting again. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything. I loved this video it will help me get back into painting
Be sure to use Dawn dish soap, specifically. It's formulated to cut grease (oil) and that is a must with oil paint but it's also very gentle and thorough when cleansing other paint types and painting messes (mediums etc.) that we make.
I rarely comment on any video, but I felt compelled to this time. I learned a great deal from this video, and I can't express enough how important that is to me. My soul mate and I used to go to Paint Nite. We loved it. I've taken up painting at home since she passed away, and she passed on the day that this video was published. Thank you so much for helping learn more about my latest passion and coping mechanism. I've enjoyed it very much, and your tips are going to help me enjoy it more. And I'm getting an angle brush ASAP.
I realize that this video is now a few years old but the information I have learned here in those 20 minutes was just spot on and really deserved a well done & a thank you comment. I'm new to painting during an ' inspirational block' in my photography and this video is exactly what I've been looking for. Knowing what brushes to use for the right job and how to use them is like knowing how to set up your camera for quality shots. Anyone can point a camera and take a photo just as anyone can pick up a brush with some paint and create something.....but it's all about knowing your tools and using them properly to their full potential that gets results which you certainly put across in your video. Thank you so much and I look forward to learning more from your videos. Brilliant!!
You are my favourite painting teacher, I love your paintings, painting tutorials and techniques!!!! Your voice is so relaxing when your teaching, thanks you so much for taking the time!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you for your patience and for sharing your talents. You have inspired me to dig out my paints which have been hidden away for far too long.
You are an EXCELLENT teacher! I've been painting for less than 3 weeks now and have already learned soooo much from you! Thank you for being cool and calm when explaining the 'whys' and the 'hows' to do things! 💕
Thank you for taking the time to show each brush technique. I especially appreciate knowing the amount of water with each brush and loading properly with paint. Yes, I will be practicing.
Learned something new in the first minute. I'd always thought of dry brush as in using the brush to make very light highlights. Here it means that you don't wet the brush before loading it with paint. The cloud technique is easy and consistent - something I've not been able to do in the past.
Thanks very much for giving us your time & expertise on basic brush handling, strokes & techniques. This is very helpful. When you talked about cleaning the brush, I had to chuckle because I’m a stabber. So now, I’ll definitely cut that out. (Pun not intended.😬) Now, I’ll share something I learned in a course I recently took, if anyone wants to know. ❤️ The name of that silver part of the brush is ~ ferrule. Pronounced FER-ral. As a noob, we learn a lot of technical terms. So I was happy to share. ❤️❤️😁
Hi! Just getting started with “dabbling” with Acrylics! Found your video especially helpful, as it answered several questions I would have to have tried various methods to find out what you’ve told me in just a few minutes!! Every time I can save is precious at 72 years old……thanks again. WELL DONE.
Best camera work and concise instruction I've seen on any art video, as a beginner I was extremely impressed. Great job. Now, to learn about painting fur!
Jane, this is so useful. I have viewed many of your videos during the past month or so. My goal is to view all the videos you have created. I am very close to the goal. This is a very helpful video. I know that you cover many of these techniques during your painting sessions. That is great, but to have them all here in one video is fantastic. Great work. Thanks for what you do.
You are a great teacher. You explain things extremely well, demonstrate them. I always find your videos super useful and to the point. No wasted time. I really appreciate what you’re doing. Thank you for the joy you’re iimparting to me with your knowledge.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have been painting for several year, mostly self taught and watching others paint. I never knew how to clean my brushes properly or how to load them correctly to get enough paint. Like you I discovered the angled brush late in my work, and it is probably my favorite brush. This video is invaluable to the novice and to the seasoned painter who never learned how to take care of their brushes!
I used to HATE cleaning brushes after I finished painting and used lots of soap and water. OMG, after watching your video I washed as I painted with just water. I was afraid bristle would be hard today with stuck on paint. Nope, they were perfect. I now save water and more importantly my brushes and time! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Love your friendly screen presence in all your videos. Been watching your videos all morning and this one helped me actually get stuff out and start playing. Love your painting style too. Thanks for doing all these!!! (Oooh Mystical Moon's coming on. Later!)
Good job and thanks for sharing this with me. Practice makes perfection.... so instead of wasting materials, I'm going to start practicing more in between paintings.
Thanks Jane, this is the only video that has addressed cleaning and shaping of brushes. I'm guilty of banging mine on the bottom of the jar but will never do it again. Thanks again for teaching not only how to paint but how to care for our equipment.❤️
this is very helpful ,although it won't save the brushes i already distroyed by cleaning them the wrong way, but from now on i will use the technic you recommend and my brushes will live happily ever after and i can practise on how to use them in the proper way, so these tips are helpful in a lot of ways
Hi!!! I am a beginner. Went to a paint party and thats what got me started. I have look and watched many video's. And you are my favorite.!! Thankyou My gial is to do all your paintings!!
Hi Jane, thank you so much for explaining various brush techniques. I have all three of the brushes you showed us how to use. I avoided the round and angle brush as I didn't know how to use either of them. So thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated. Thank you from Canada.
Thank you Jane. This was very very helpful!! As a beginner I had no idea how to paint with brushes but I agree with you that the angle brush is hard to beat!!
really enjoyed you going the extra mile to teach us about brush cleaning and techniques, I am just starting to learn about acrylic, I use to do oils, and I really learned a lot here. I also pick up what a good teacher you are and caring about your viewers as well, definitely a sign of an excellent teacher thank you thank you thank you
You are such a good teacher these tips are so helpful. I just completed my first painting I can honestly say I was happy with and it was following your tutorial of the walk in the rain. You have made me believe I can do it thank you.
this is the most helpful video I have found as someone who is switching mediums, I'm switching from airbrush to actual brushes. I love all your videos, immensely helpful.
Thanks Jane! I really enjoy practicing with you and feel these technique tutorials have a lot to offer - especially when I don't have time for a full painting but just want to work on my skills with no commitment to a finished piece.
Im sure by now you know this, or maybe you already forgot, but I just learned in a previous video that the metal part of the brush is called the "ferrule". And thanks again for the great teaching videos! You are my favorite one to learn from out of the countless videos Ive watched this week on acrylics. Im learning so freaking much its crazy! I now see why I have never been any good at it... it helps to educate myself.. duh. Still working on the Northern Lights painting that I started my journey with. Im stuck on the water reflections. Im gonna have to come up with an alternate technique. Those tiny dashes are gonna be the death of me.
I just learned more in 20 minutes from this video, than I learned during my first 2 hour class that I paid for. THANK YOU !!! I can not wait to watch more of your videos.
Jane I have looked for videos that would help me understant how and what brush to use. This was GREAT. You gave me so many ideas. Now I have to practice and look for more of your videos. You do have use of the fan brush I hope. Thanks
Thank you for this very informative video,,never realized that I shouldn't leave my brushes in the water..I also thought that the way you use the angle rush did help. I haven't used mine yet but now that you showed how to use it,I'm going to give it a try..thank you again,,you are an excellent teacher I just love the videos...😊
Thank you! This was very helpful, I've been self teaching myself and painting for a few years now, I've always drawn and stuff but never had or knew how to use the brushes right. I've just used paint pens and cheep dollar pack of brushes.
Such a great video. Wanted to paint today, but I was in lots of pain and my hands were shaking.....stupid Multiple Sclerosis. I spent the day watching videos and got my painting fix in and learned lots of tips and watched you paint beautiful paintings. Thanks for all your videos. ♡
I have watched countless step by step videos of acrylic painting tutorials. Your videos are so informative and soooo easy to follow along with. I have learned so much. So far I have watched 5 or 6 of your videos not including this one, and I have learned something from each one. This is the fist time I have ever commented on any videos. You do a great job!!
I'm going to be your number one fan lol.. Thanks this help a lot.. I leave my brushes in water over night all the time.. I have poor performing brushes that has been a lot o my problems never having good brushes to work with. Today I take a pledge to take very good care of my brushes.
Yay for #1 Fans :D Yes, please don't abuse your poor little brushes. Even cheap brushes can last for awhile and keep their shape if they're handled properly :)
Very helpful tips. Been practicing and getting the hang of small lines especially for tree branches. I saw how you cleaned your brush. Afterwards do you wash them with soap in the palm of your hand and then pat them dry on a towel This is how I have been showed to do. Tks for the video.
I love how you gave the beginners how to use the paintbrushes and the tips to keep the brushes clean and keep their shapes can you plz do more of that kind of videos and I would like to know how to use the paintbrushes to get the different paints colors to make them blend together and create different colors plz
Thank you for the thorough explanation on the use of each brush. I'm just starting and the angle brush was a brush I didn't use because I didn't know how. Enjoyed the video.
Jane you are an awesome artist, I love painting with you when RA permits me to. I also love your tutorials when RA doesn't allow me to paint, your'e totally awesome.
You're such an amazing artist! I discovered your channel last night and I've been binge watching ever since trying to soak up as much information on painting as I can! I hope I can become a artist as great as you one day!
I know this is an older video but this is exactly what I was looking for as a total beginner! THANK YOU

@@lindasmela7744 - Ditto! Good luck!
Thank you so much, Elaine! Have a ton of fun
just a beginner. I simply adore you. sooooo informative your videos are. you are so brief and concrete.
Thank you so much!!
You are an EXCELLENT teacher! I've been painting for less than 3 weeks now and have already learned soooo much from you! Thank you for being cool and calm when explaining the 'whys' and the 'hows' to do things! 💕
+mzbrazell Aw, I'm so glad I could help you out! I can't wait to see more paintings from you
Watched about 20 tutorials, easily the best of the bunch.
Thank you for taking the time to show each brush technique. I especially appreciate knowing the amount of water with each brush and loading properly with paint. Yes, I will be practicing.

Thank you!!! That's exactly why I did this. I will probably do an updated one sometime soon :)
Thank you so much for explaining how you use water with the brush and paint. I've been searchimg for ages trying to find the right way to do this!
Thank you this was very helpful, I'm new to using acrylics and am loving it so far!
thank you beautiful Jane... for letting your artist heart and your teacher brain come into our homes and teach us how to let our own artiness come out
Hehe, you're so welcome! Thank you for your sweet comments and for watching, Tina!
You explain and demonstrate so clearly. No wonder I've ruined so many brushes! Thank you so much!!!
You're so welcome! I'm glad I could help save your poor brushes :)

+Kevin Zabbo Thanks, Kevin! Glad I could save your brushes. Mashing is mean, just remember that, lol.
I was tought it was called the hilt but different names in different places I like your version better

Love the way you explained how to use different brushes and how to clean them.........Cathie
+Catherine Fox Thank you, Cathie! I'm glad it was helpful to you :)
This is definitely helpful for me. I am a self teaching painter and I'm learning slowly all techniques. But this helps me so much
Thanks Jane, this is the only video that has addressed cleaning and shaping of brushes. I'm guilty of banging mine on the bottom of the jar but will never do it again. Thanks again for teaching not only how to paint but how to care for our equipment.❤️
You're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful and that I could help save a few brushes 😊

really enjoyed you going the extra mile to teach us about brush cleaning and techniques, I am just starting to learn about acrylic, I use to do oils, and I really learned a lot here.
I'm so glad to hear it, Cathy! Congrats on your first painting, friend! Here's to many more 💛
this is the most helpful video I have found as someone who is switching mediums, I'm switching from airbrush to actual brushes. I love all your videos, immensely helpful.
+Charles Nunley Thank you, Charles!! I'm so glad you like them. Thanks for watching :D
This is one of the most useful videos i have seen on brushes...simple things really make a difference

I'd love to see! facebook.com/PandemoniumArtVideos/
Thanks Jane! I really enjoy practicing with you and feel these technique tutorials have a lot to offer - especially when I don't have time for a full painting but just want to work on my skills with no commitment to a finished piece.
Thank you so much, Angel! I'm so glad I can help you!! Thank you for your nice comment
Your instruction on the angle brush was very helpful. Thank you. 🌹
Hey I'm in a funk right now but watching you videos is uplifting thanks a bunch
+Rosie Tona Good, Rosie. I hope I can help get you out of that funk
+74niknik Thank you so much
I just learned more in 20 minutes from this video, than I learned during my first 2 hour class that I paid for. THANK YOU !!! I can not wait to watch more of your videos.
Jane, thank you so much for the brush tips! I am a beginner so your video was very informative and I'm sure I'll refer back to it! Again, THANK YOU!
Enjoy your tutorials and helpful hints, thanks
Bob
Jane I have looked for videos that would help me understant how and what brush to use. This was GREAT. You gave me so many ideas. Now I have to practice and look for more of your videos. You do have use of the fan brush I hope. Thanks

Thank you for this very informative video,,never realized that I shouldn't leave my brushes in the water..I also thought that the way you use the angle rush did help. Thank you, Judith-Ann! I would love to see what you paint :D
Thank you for explaining so well, I'm an absolute beginner and I find these tips valuable.
I'm a novice. It appears an artist can blame his/her brush. Absolutely informative. Thanks and regards from South Africa
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you! This was very helpful, I've been self teaching myself and painting for a few years now, I've always drawn and stuff but never had or knew how to use the brushes right. I've just used paint pens and cheep dollar pack of brushes.
Moving from fine pencil to paint this is very beneficial. Good tips in the comments also. Love your style
Just what I needed to watch. Perfect video for beginners. Thanks
I like you. Very detailed. Honest and humble teacher! Excellet job..
Thank you so much, Leesa! I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling with MS :( I have friends who have it, so I kind of know what you're going through
Enjoyed this so much! I will use this video to fall back on as I am teaching myself to paint.
Good easy to follow demo. Thanks. I have painted for years but there is always something that got lost in the shuffle that you forget. Thanks. Deb
Even cheap brushes can last for awhile and keep their shape if they're handled properly :)
don't worry I won't anymore I already got all my brushes out and clean them up.. shaped them really good. Thanks.
i love your brush cleaning tips.thanks you for saving my money and paint quality.
Your wonderful!!!! Thank you so much for explaining so clearly and taking time to teach❤️❤️
