    THIS was the tutorial I needed. Been struggling for three days, hating everything I produced. Found this and "smoky backgrounds" this morning and everything clicked. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    Hi Jane, I’m an absolute beginner, started with digital painting and now moving from there to real painting with acrylics, I really liked the way you pointed out the different ways to lay paint onto the canvas and to blend paint strokes, as well as to try to paint clouds, learned a lot today, thank you very much, will go laterite get some natural brushes - have a great Sunday and take care ☺️

    Jane I really like this video. The one thing that I have learned over the years and painting clouds is to keep your brush moving forward for the highlights. I think people forget that the highlight goes across the top of a cloud or our brain and hand get stuck in one spot. Your under painting will define the shapes of your darks and lights and I really enjoy seeing yours..Thank you for being a great teacher with these not so easy clouds..

    You have a way of explaining that is so easy to understand. You never forget to say what brushes you each time you change, u explain the paint loading little things like that helps a lot when your new. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Hi Jane, I'm a beginner, just started acrylic painting a week ago. Thinking clouds to be easy to paint, I tried my hand at it following some tutorials on u tube. Little did I realize how difficult it could be for a beginner. I wasted hours and paint on it and was almost giving up on painting clouds when I came across yours. You were so good at instructing everything needed for a beginner to learn. I loved your technique and the painting. I'm definitely going to try painting the clouds as you've instructed.
    Thank you.

    Jane, you are one of the most underrated painters on TH-cam!!! Your tutorials are easy to follow. I’ve done several of your paintings and I am so happy how they come out! It makes me want to keep on trying! AND thank you for not putting in a bunch of chatter about silly things. I’m here for the lesson! We can tell jokes later! Ha! These husband/wife teams wear me out!!!!!!! And frankly, if I wanted to chit chat and NOT paint, I’d go to a chat room somewhere else! Thank you again for being so patient, on task, and encouraging!!!!

    Hi Jane, I loved this video. Clouds are intimidating. You took the time to show how step by step the clouds eventually look great. Appreciate your honesty about how clouds bothered you too!
    You are an amazing artist and a great teacher. Thank you so much.

    Hi Jane, great video! I am a beginner and find clouds very difficult. I thought they would be one of the easiest things to paint, lol. I really appreciate your honesty, you are an incredible artist and if you have found them difficult at times too, then maybe I am not as hopeless a beginner as I was thinking. I will keep trying, thank you for your encouragement!

      Thank you so much, Shavauna! Yeah, you'd think clouds would be pretty simple, but they give a lot of people grief. It took me forever to figure out how I like to paint them, so if I can do it, anyone can!! lol

    GREAT LESSON ! For the first time you, as an instructor, took time to show how to use the brush to obtain the effect you need to set off your clouds. It helped me get the effect I wanted. Your lesson on abstract was also GREAT and I found your remarks on your mental approach preparing to create the abstract presentation. THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS AS A TEACHER

    This is the best video I have seen on clouds. I have been so frustrated with painting clouds and have wanted to give up. You explain everything in such detail and go slow enough so I can paint right along with you. I just love your video's. You have such a calm and soothing voice which helps me stay calm. I now want to practice using your techniques more often then I was. I am 60 years old and always wanted to paint but didn't think I could ever learn but I am now actually painting something besides stick men. lol

      +robisafk Rob, painting can help you SO much with panic attacks!!!! I was going through that for awhile early last year. Whenever I felt one coming on, I'd sit down and paint how I felt. Not only did I have an emotional connection with that painting when I was done, but I felt so much better. I'm so glad I get to help you out :D

      Painting with Jane, At first I did know how you were going to get the clouds you wanted. It did look like fuzzy squiggly lines. It wasn't until at the last part of the video when you used the little brush, did it look like it was coming together. Not in this example, but in other cloud paintings, you may want to use a little burnt umber (a little) in the shadows because the lower part of the clouds will reflect the earth. Great work.

    I love these clouds. I'm going to try both videos like you did. I also bought the brushes today so I'm looking forward to starting it. I really liked how you stopped the video to show us how you applied the paint with your brush. That is great to see how the brush should be held and what type of pressure, and very little paint. Thanks Jane.

      +Cathy Tully Good!! I was hoping that wasn't jarring or confusing. I just realized when I was almost done with that part that I hadn't really shown how I was using the brush. Glad I at least remembered to put it in there somewhere, lol.

      +David Flesher Thank you, David! I know I already answered your question on Facebook, but in case anyone else has the same question, I'll answer here too. No, probably not. I'd probably throw some blue in there too. Depends on the type of look you're going for. If you want them to seem really bright, and happy, a little blue/grey for sure. The darker the shadow, the heavier they'll feel.

    My cloud brush (round brush?) isn't puffy like yours. It kinda goes to a point. Also, it's stiff (but soft up top). It's awkward to use, but I'm trying :)
    But, whenever you or any other artist instructor makes your clouds, you use the same general technique, which is outlining your clouds, putting in the shadows, then putting in highlights and adding detail. In general, light and dry brush strokes. But, my paint is very thin and wet so it still ends up blending in anyway? XD
    Lovely tutorial. I'll keep practicing; it may be just the paint. Also, I've begun the palette knife today...

    can you please guide me which colours or combination I should use if m painting a light blue bright sky with bright white clouds?

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think you could just use any color of blue you like with the white. If you don't want it to be such a bright blue, you can add a tiny bit of burnt umber. Not a lot, just enough to drab the blue down a little. That's one of my favorite color combinations to use in a sky!

    • @rubabch11
      @rubabch11 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alright, thanks alot, and what I have learned from ur videos is that I can use the same combination of colors but darker to paint the shadows for clouds,

    Hi Jane, love the clouds and planning on trying soon. Just want to ask you, are you using oil brushes here? Thank you

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, Joe!! I think a lot of oil painters do use very similar brushes. I actually don't use these brushes for my clouds anymore, but they're still a good option. Having done a ton of cloud paintings, I've used a lot of different brushes, so I wouldn't worry too much about the brush you're using. If one isn't doing what you want it to, try another. Eventually you'll find what works best for you :)

      +therightmoment Yep and yep! Just water. Acrylic paint is easy like that. Maybe I'll make a video about how to properly care for brushes during and after painting. Thanks for the idea! :)

      +HNRbeauty61 I think so. It looks like it does. Any place that sells art supplies should have them. They're about the cheapest brushes you can buy, lol. Dick Blick has them :D www.dickblick.com/products/blick-economy-white-bristle-stencil-brush/

      HaHa...it's a stencil brush! That's why I didn't see it...lol I kept looking at the round brushes, thinking these don't look like what she is using....LOL I know I ask a lot of questions, I'm a newbie:) Thanks sooo much for helping

    I was thinking just the same way how Shavauna Ronan thinks. I still have problems with clouds. But i remember your words (not exactly the same) " dont tell me, my this or that work is very bad or i hate it... do your best, if you dont like it, do that again ..just do it" kinda like that words. Yesterday night i tried to paint "Stormy seaside" .. maybe 3 or 4 hours i spend on and off, 2 weeks ago i tried "Cloudy sky" which is black-white and grey..I figured it out my weak sides and i have to try and try again. But the real is painting clouds is fun, if they look like a cloud i am happy...kinda a challenge with brushes ... i need right brushes.. its time to shop from Jane"s web site :)

      Clouds can be really tricky. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to do them. I have several versions of clouds, and they're all done a little different. Maybe one of the other techniques would be easier for you. Try this one: th-cam.com/video/PXR6Tg7_yuM/w-d-xo.html and this one: th-cam.com/video/bc7SLQdHGDE/w-d-xo.html Two totally different types of clouds. There's an endless number of ways you can paint clouds, so if one doesn't work for you, try another one :)
