I think you should make a 2.0 version of this with these pieces (these are new peices exclusive to the 2.0 version): The sideways pawn: a pawn but I can move sideways (first pawn evolution) The super giga pawn: just like giga pawn but I take and move sideways (final pawn evolution) Archbishop: about anyone who doesn’t live under a rock knows what this peice is, knight plus bishop combined (bishop second evolution) Literally any leaper peice from your chess dlc video (knight evolutions in between camel and double knight) Knight plus king: movement of knight and king (second king evolution) Emperor+knight: same as previous one mentioned except the additional movement from the emperor (4th king evolution) Double king+knight: just like the previous one but the additional movement from double king (king final evolution)
here's my commentary on this. pawn: mega pawn: it works ok, this just discourages the use of the double move. knight: camel: this is slightly different to the knight, so it could sometimes be unoptimal when it evolves and can ruin your plans. double knight: you overstated how op this is. its ok, but same thing with it can ruin your plans with the camel. unicorn: this piece idea is pretty cool, nothing much else to say rose: this piece is worse than the unicorn. not much thought here bishop: checker bishop: pretty good idea, better than the normal bishop too but still similar enough where it isn't annoying. cylinder bishop: to me it feels like its about as good as the checker bishop, if not worse so not great bomber: this feels pretty insane but not actually too op. kinda reminds me of atomic chess

This is a really cool variant but the board is so small and there are so many ridiculous pieces that can checkmate the king easily that it's hard to see multiple different evolutions

Have you ever considered changing the king and queen to moving other pieces...including the enemy's pieces? Limit it to unobstructed line of sight along orthogonal/diagonal axes, push pieces off the board (captures the pushed piece), push pieces into each other (captures using the pushed piece), yoink bishops onto a different colored square, but limit moving of other pieces with royals so that they can only be pulled or pushed one space directly towards or away from the queen/king moving them. Ensure that you can only move an opponent's piece to the same square thrice in a row to prevent stalemates (you always win a contest over your own units this way while letting the enemy yank them in at least two directions), and limit queen's movement and capture ability to match the king's. Finally, give the queen the ability to castle for that extra bit of maneuverability since she lost the rest. Pawns can move up two spaces if they are in the two starting lines (this rule accounts for pawns being shoved backwards). I call it Command Chess. Yes, it's fun and it works.

Pawn - soldier or viking
The soldier. moves like a king and captures like a king whereas the viking moves like a knight but captures like a pawn Soldier/viking is obtained when a pawn reaches the last rank and can promote to only a soldier/viking the only way a soldier/viking can promote to other pieces like a pawn is by capturing another soldier/Viking
Note all units except a soldier/viking can only be obtained from a shop
Knight - Calvary - archbishop or chancellor - Amazon
The Calvary can move and capture like a horse and king the archbishop move and capture like a horse and bishop and the chancellor moves like a horse and rook the Amazon moves like archbishop and chancellor
Bishop - bowman - sniper - glass cannon - cannon
The bowman captures like a queen but minus the king and moves like a king
The sniper doesn't move like a queen but captures like a queen but it doesn't move to the place it captures and remains in its original spot it can only move like a bishop
The glass cannon it moves and captures like a queen and captures like a knight but once this unit is taken it cannot be obtained again the cannon is the same as a glass cannon but without the oneshot
Rook - paladin - fortress - kingdom
The paladin moves in a square 5×5 space with the horizontal, vertical and diagonal spaces connected to the paladin The fortress moves like four rooks on the first diagonals of the fortress the kingdom moves like a fortress and bishop
Princess - queen - empress
The princess moves like a queen but only in the first

The queen moves like a bishop and rook
The empress moves like a queen but the horizontal and vertical movements are tripled in width and the diagonal movements are doubled

Thief can move in any spaces but can only capture like a knight shapeshifter moves like a king but can transform into any piece regardless if you bought it or not the shapeshifted piece can move and capture like the piece it shapeshifted into but for 1 turn and has a cooldown of 2 turns it also acts like a king if the orginal king gets captured the shapeshifter turns into the max evolved from of king
Reaver - grim reaper
The reaver moves in a 2×3 space in front leaving one space between it and the space horizontally and vertically the grim reaper moves like a queen but can pass through walls
Swordsman - blade dancer
The swordsman moves 3 space horizontally and 1 space vertically in the middle space
The blade dancer moves like a governer and bishop
Crawler
The crawler acts a jester but instead of capturing a piece it poisons and entangles it the poison lasts 5 turns before it gets captured and entangles it for 1 turn

Wall - 800 G blocks the movements of your opponent's pieces but not yours
Emergency piece - 1000 G any piece can be an emergency piece but you have to pay for the piece but the price is decreased by 500 G you can spawn this only when you have one piece left you can not place it where it's check or checkmate
Extra turn - 1250 G you have an extra turn you can buy this 2 times
Royal Rook would have been a better name imo
