It's really amazing and honestly such a relief to see all these nice comments about the editing. Thank you all so much🥰 And a special thank you to The Dean himself, you are honestly amazing brother. Your videos and the community you have gathered... I can't put into words how much this channel means to me, both as a long time fan. And now as a video editor.
As much as I love the ever-charming Darling and his killer dance moves, I have to say, Emily is the better scientist. She doesn’t let anything faze her! Excited to see how her relationship with Jesse grows in Control 2!
Darling is great. Emily is amazing too. Darling is probably still the better boss only because he has more charisma. Emily is kind of stand offish to everyone except Jessie. As a researcher she is better though.
@@GamingUniversityUoGoh definitely. Part of being a leader is having enough charisma that people will follow and respect you. So far, Jesse’s doing alright with rallying the Bureau under threat of death, but it’s anyone’s guess if she’ll be able to keep them together without an enemy to fight. I’d actually put my money on Arish helping them with the charisma aspect, he’s a guy anyone could get along with and he’s got experience actually working with people.
you need both types of scientists for new frontiers. those that believe and the skeptics. believers open up new frontiers while skeptics wade carefully into those waters, but rarely enter them without the believers taking the first step
Emily does seem like she'd poke something you really, really shouldn't poke with a stick to see what it did, though. Darling would make sure to put it in another dimension first..
You mentioned early in the video how Pope was held back from researching some of the more interesting (read: dangerous) subjects at the FBC. One of the things I find so interesting there is the way the game's characterization of its major players changes over time. For example, Darling's siloing of information is first made to appear as if it could be a sign of his betrayal of the FBC and of humanity. There are elements that make it seem like he might be a villain. And after having been made to like Pope as a character, the steady reveals that Darling even kept stuff from her make it seem like -- Yeah, he might be a bad guy. But then we come to learn that actually Darling held her back because he knew that, given the chance to investigate some of this stuff, she would throw herself whole-heartedly into the work, perhaps putting herself at far greater risk. You come to realize that his unwillingness to let her participate in Dimensional Research, for example, is possibly the very highest endorsement of her talent, abilities, and character. The other people he took with him were, in a way, expendable. But he wasn't willing to put her at risk by letting her be a part of it.
Goes to know one amazing characterization for him too. Since he dived into it head first as well. He valued her presence there greater than his own. Risking himself was more tolerable than risking her.
Emily really is a great character. I always loved hearing her hypotheses on the strange happenings around the Oldest House. I hope she has a big part to play in any further games in the series.
The editing is phenomenal! Yellow Bat did a great job :D Emily is definitely one of my favorites from the Bureau and I would have loved to see her and Darling actually interact. Sort of two ways of scientific thinking clashing, but both still having lots of passion behind them as well. I'm also really looking forward to Control 2 and how her role as Head of Research grows... given that this position and the Director seemingly get into conflict very often.
Don't jinx it! I don't know if the community could handle Pope and Jesse having a falling out. But yes Yellow Bat did amazing here! It has been great collaborating with him.
This is a fantastic step up from the previous videos, and I think "the Dean" will really shine with the ability to focus on the theories and writing. Great work on the editing by Yellow Bat! I wish my actual university classes had video lectures this polished... and, well, this interesting too.
That's the plan. Let me focus on writing and working on more content and let the Yellow Bat focus on editing. To give context, currently about 70% of my time is editing compared to 30% actually writing and researching.
Coming in for a lore video but got a whole mini lecture on critical thinking and information processing. Honestly this is really really helpful and I love everything about it.
@@GamingUniversityUoG it’s so good I got my dad to buy the ultimate edition, just so I could have someone to talk to about 😅 Thank you so much for making these videos!! I’ll definitely try to keep supporting in the future and look forward to your eventual CONTROL 2 videos.
Same! Between her and Dr. Ash. Emily is basically me lol. Nerdy about the thinks she is passionate about, a bit asocial, but a chatterbox when around people she likes (Jesse).
The real trick is, see, you quietly change your mind with new & better information, but then gaslight yourself & everyone else into believing that's what you always _really_ thought.
I'd like to think that my interest in the RemedyVerse and Control Lore in general would mean that I would be recruited by the FBC were it real. Oh how I would love to research the paranatural.
An absolutely fantastic video as always I enjoyed it very much, and don't think I didn't notice the awesome new editing style, much more fluid and dynamic, makes me feel like I'm watching a professional college video rather than an analysis of a game
Amazing work. I have become obsessed and hyperfocused again with Control and it's lore. It's one of those games where I want to wipe my mind so I can play it again. I was crushed when I finished the game and the DLCs, I hope we get a sequel so people like you can go over it in detail!
The change in editing really takes your videos on a new level. I always enjoy your use of games to explain rather abstract concepts. Informative and educational. I believe that emily could bring huge changes to the FBC. All those protocols, regulations and approaches towards paranatural objects and incidents are possibly up for question. The board is probably worried by these developments.
I agree the Board probably doesn't like being investigated. And yeah. My biggest frustration with the Bureau Hierarchy under Trench is how the departments don't share information. This creates a lot of problems.
@@GamingUniversityUoG While the hiss invasion probably would have happened no matter what, i'm sure a lot of confusion could have been avoided if the different branches had communicated better. Not to mention the destruction and casualties. How many employees did they lose anyway? Feels like 90% of the occupants were infected.
I cannot begin to explain how much I love these videos. I have learned a lot, both about control and all the other philosophical subjects you talk about, and for this, I will always be grateful :)
Thank you so much for your kind words and sentiment. One of my philosophies is that when consuming good literature we should walk away with something and not just 2 hours lost on random entertainment.
@@GamingUniversityUoG I agree and think that you truly apply that into your videos, can't wait to see more, and also congrats to the editor too, he has been doing great
Awesome video on one of my fav characters. Presentation 69 centering Emily, LOL !! The amalgamation of great content and video editing really made the whole experience better. Intriguingly educational as always. Great Job !!
Before my editing ability didn't meet my imagination. Now because of Yellow Bat it does! Super excited what we'll be able to do. And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
THAT WAS AWESOME! Like, wow. I did expect to like it that much XD I sincerely hope the channel continues this way The new editing style being reminiscent of Control is fantastic and I love it There's only one thing I have to say about it : I'm pretty sure that I'm speaking on behalf of the majority when I say WE NEED THE FROG'S THEME BACK! :) That song has become my headcanon Gaming University Theme and I think a lot of others think the same. Other than that, everything is great P.S. Wow Monty Zander is here
Haha thank you so much buddy! Well luckily the new song at the end is still a Chrono theme. It is Departed Souls from Chrono Cross. Can't get away from my first RPG love.
Good video, I learned a lot from it. I have to admit though, I am unsure of how many videos you can make on control, but if they will take time to make it as good as this video; then I am happy to wait for them.
Just wooow... this is insane video... a very different level in the presentation and production of this video, I am so excited about this new editing... Emily Pope character is very special and mysterious at the same time... she must have her own separate game called ''The Philosophy of Emily Pope'' lol hahahaha.... "David Lynch has said: “Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper.” Gaming University is our big fish." - Sayborg Oussawa Thank you The Dean and yellow bat... Great job guys.
Great video as always. Justified true belief as knowledge is always fascinating and there is a bit of empiricism vs rationalism in here which is why I like this channel! Also great editing!
One of these days I'll use the proper words for these presentations like empiricism and rationalism lol. And thanks! Yellow bat really did an amazing job on the editing
About hearsay: it's worth noting that there's still significant value in listening to and building off of previous work. Even Darling's fallacious conclusions come from valuable data (e.g. the involvement of the board with most OoPs in the Oldest House), and can provide insight. This is why it's important to delimit hypotheses, verified conclusions, and hard data. If we really couldn't trust in the work and claims of others, then we'd barely had made any scientific advancements at all, since every scientist would be stuck double-checking the most fundamental laws! Second-hand information is still very valuable, because the cumulative time and effort that everybody else has to consider a problem utterly dwarfs your own. What's important is that it justifies itself, and provides reasons for its conclusions. For example, every observed OoP is connected to the Board, so the Board is intrinsically connected to every OoP; but the premise isn't actually true, because there are OoPs unrelated to the board, so the conclusion may be false, even if the argument itself isn't unreasonable. And while it's true that a notion like "the Board controls the OoPs" can't be verified as fact, it *can* be falsified, so it's still scientifically meaningful to posit and discuss.
This is a fantastic analysis. I think an accompanying value that goes with this type of approach is humility. Its a trait that the FBC had been lacking for the most part. - Lily&
Whenever I hear that little parable about the three blind men, I can only think that that is one incredibly patient elephant. Letting all three of them get so handsy with him all at once and not even moving his leg.
@@GamingUniversityUoG man, TH-cam made this so much harder now, in fact, it seems to be impossible now? Well the least you could do is go to customization > add section > featured channel then finding your streaming channel Edit nvm This works and adds it to the channel tab, no way to do it separately anymore (also can't delete from homepage without deleting from the channel tab
Loved the video about my favorite character. I wonder how far Emily is willing to go to learn. The reason I ask is that a redditor was talking ages ago about the "Hotline Security Log" collectible. There is an entry that a "Carol Bishop" entered the Hotline chamber as an assistant janitor. May or may not have been Emily, but she only went in once. If it was her, did she actually lift the receiver?
Carol Bishop has been a mystery for me for a while. May be entirely nothing but the Pope/Bishop comparison didn't go unnoticed. That being said if she lifted the Hotline she would be dead now without being bound to it.
love the new editing style, turned out great! only small bit of criticism i have is that i find the background music a little too loud at times. makes listening and comprehending a little harder. but that might also just be me thing and the majority is probably totally fine with it. still maybe something to take into consideration :)
I'll definitely take a second look at it. Thanks for the heads up. I know it can sound different between phone and PC. And its good to hear you like the new editing style as well!
(A comment on a topic, not about the game.) It is funny how we can come with great knowledge, infused with wisdom (-for such people), along with our bountiful capabilities. Yet, we are still very much limited, and quite imperfect. We are who we are. I really like that quote you put up. It sounds rather humble or it is. Just pure honesty Informational video, as per usual. This one is probably one of my favourite topics. Who would've thought to have run into such a mindset. Let alone, under the genre of gaming, where people usually yell all sorts of things with charisma and memefied (said over and over again) jokes, but never this. Guess it takes a certain genre of gaming to bring out those people.
There’s a bias in your test, the waiter want’s a tip and will therefore act in a friendly and charming way that might make you tip her more. She might have acted like she knew the band to escape admitting she doesn’t know not because she doesn’t want to admit that but because she want’s to connect with you.
Was going to say the same thing. The waitress was likely feigning interest in whatever the customer talks about to make them happy and get a tip. Friendly bulllshitting is a server’s best route to a tip. Done it plenty of times myself.
In a small way yes the FBC will be in Alan Wake 2. They already set up Agent Estevez as being the head of the Cauldron Lake Monitoring Station. They took over Hartman's old lodge as their base of operations. I would be surprised if she didn't show up.
I've heard of it. Haven't gotten around since it is supposed to be a long game. Currently working through Persona 3 for the time consuming one in my free time. Oh... so congrats lol. This video wasn't supposed to be live until tomorrow. Guess you found it early.
@@GamingUniversityUoG hi Me too, i downloader your Control Lecture playlist (this lore AND your work IS OP!!!!!) 2 day ago and this video just pop and dl automatically, but doesn't appear in my flux. 1st Time i see this..
I am currently writing a fic that features the FBC and Currently writing allot of Emily, studies like this really help me paint her! Thank you for your words :)
Been working on the content of this week for about three months in the background. Partially the reason I missed a couple weeks of normal uploads. Definitely happy with how it all turned out.
2:40 "As mentioned above-" hehehe the video essayist in me caught this one. gotta be aware of what word works in a script (vertical scale) and what word works in a video (chronological scale).
In a sense, Emily is like a mentat from _Dune_ . But where characters like Thufir Hawat build a reasonable conclusion based on a false foundation, Emily questions her premises. She is very thorough and unafraid to say she doesn't know, she definitely has great potential.
For a place like the oldest house and the beurau that prudes itself on a much more scientific approach to the OOP and altered items and geberal Paranatural happenings its very interesting to see how someone like Emily pope who very much approaches all of this from a more rational standpoint than Dr. Darling
Based upon the paranatural stuff here you almost have to let some of the rigid scientific mind to let go a bit. Magical thinking is needed. But also some of the situation is 3rd parties influencing and poisoning the waters of their inquiry. The Board namely.
A lot of the themes in this video seem relevant to Bayesian reasoning. It generally has to do with updating beliefs or conceptual framework based on the introduction of new information. Worth looking into if you aren’t already familiar with it.
It’s such a shame Darling & Emily could not work together on the Hiss issue because I feel they both challenge each other & fill each other’s weaknesses which only benefits everyone. They could definitely keep each other in check provided Dr. Darling allowed himself to fully trust her & share his integral plans & data with her. Darling could have saved so many more lives had he gotten Emily caught up on everything. I understood why he didn’t do it but dude went & ascended on his coworkers out of nowhere!
I just finished the entire game for the first time, and I feel that Emily is suspicious enough to be an antagonist in Control 2; Especially with the Foundation DLC and the Board warning us about her, even when the Board themselves are not trustworthy. She is far too dangerous to even be the head of research, back in the base game her enthusiasm for turning objects into weapons even scares Darling. She doesn't seem to care about the security and handling of items as much as she wishes to research and exploit them as weapons, she even wants to turn the Nail into knives. She's definitely the one most suspicious character in the entire game, even more than the Board themselves. Jesse trusted her too easily and revealed her secrets and objectives when Polaris herself hesitated.
I was just talking With Emily Pope, and she made a VERY good statement that maybe you mislaid, as it is at the very start of the game. Altered objects are different from the Objects of power because they cannot be controlled. So maybe the Jukebox and the slide machine are not objects of power, yet? Maybe any astral being with enough power can infuse and tame an altered object, and that is why they are the ones who can hand out who they link to? That wouldn't shift much of my view on the board and the Former, and how they behave, but it might explain the temporary power the former has over some of the altered items.
This video can be summed up with a simple phrase, "If you always want to be right, you must be willing to change your opinion based on new information". I do not take credit for that one but, I do have this saying of my own that I used to tell my students, "Your license, is a license to learn. Coming out of school, you know nothing. Remember that when someone tells you something new, the first question you should them, and yourself, is: Why?" I had students that studied the book and could give a text book answer but, they couldn't explain the answer because they didn't know "why", they gleaned the knowledge but not the understanding, and thus they did not grok what they had recited from the book. I would go on to tell them, "I will give you the benefit of my knowledge and wisdom and will relay to you as much as I can but, I don't know what you don't know unless you ask questions. I can explain it to you but I can not understand it for you, so you'd better ask questions if not of me, then of those around you who do understand it." The biggest stumbling block for a lot of them was visualizing how a collapsing magnetic field could impart an electrical charge in a coil. I could lecture on it, draw pictures, show videos, and have them conduct practical exercises to demonstrate to themselves that it worked but I could not understand it for them, but man you could see the eyes light up on some faces when it finally clicked, and they finally "groked" what they had been told.
Since by the sounds of it you're in the educational field, I would like to get your opinion on something. Going through school it always felt as though the 'goal' was simply to get a good grade and pass. Not to fully understand or appreciate what was being taught. It wasn't until I graduated that I truly began to appreciate a lot of what I took for granted. The 'grok' aspect of learning is the best part. Otherwise we'd get the A and then forget it the following week.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Sadly that is the way it is these days. The "No Child Left Behind" thing really killed public education. I worked as an instructor for Airframe and Power Plant mechanics(A&P). Some were perfectly able to memorize the study guides, and lecture notes, and could easily answer the test questions, however, when the time came for the practical side of things (taking apart an engine for example), these same individuals were lost because they had not taken the time to understand what they were memorizing. For others, the opposite was true, you could give them toolbox and a manual, they could tear the engine apart and rebuild it quickly, and understood the mechanics behind it, but not how it would work. For example, you could ask them what the 5 events were in a 4-stroke engine, and they just could not wrap their heads around the fact that "ignition" was an event between compression stoke and just before power stroke. There were a few that would be great in the theory side of things and only lacked the hands-on experience, and they would quickly grasp the mechanical side of things quickly (doesn't take much to turn a wrench the most power aircraft tool is the one between your ears), and these were the ones that would become expert troubleshooters and inspection authorities later in their careers. Why? Because they groked the whole situation. They could "see" things in their minds and take apart and troubleshoot something without lifting a wrench or screwdriver because they could see it all in their heads. People wonder why specialists develop like they do but every industry has them. Why? Because there is too much to know in any field to know everything. I might be an A&P with a good working knowledge of all aircraft but I specialize in helicopters, and can look at a manual and rotorhead system and take it apart in my head before I ever lift a wrench same with turbine engines but, I taught Internal Combustion Theory, as well as Sheetmetal, Wood and Composite Structures. Sheetmetal work is an art(sure there ARE formulas to calculate bends)and requires a deft hand and good control of tools to prevent damage to what you are working on. Some of those students that didn't grok engines, were artists with a piece of aluminum or making things from fiberglass. "If you measure a fishes intelligence by it's ability to climb a tree, it will forever be thought of as inferior" - A. Einestein.
Wouldn't be the first time new info came out and made me rethink some content here. But then isn't that the thesis of this video? If something new is learned then we re-evaluate and recontextualize.
Emily is one of my favorite characters from Control, and I believe part of that is her unwillingness to accept assumptions. She must observe the proof herself, not even taking what Jessie says at face value despite her trust in Jessie
She is the Barry wheeler of this game. The person the we the audience can identify with. With Jesse we get an almost robotic response to just crazy weird stimuli because Jesse is the protagonist in an action game and that serves us as the player. Emily's take on everything is one of curiosity and aww and the realization the things around her are anomalies and thus wonderful and terrible to behold. The normal human response. Without Emily the game would get boring fast. She grounds us while Jesse takes us to the upper limits.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Arish is how most normal people would react to actually being in this situation- He's fairly concerned with the practical realities of the hiss invasion, and how to make sure the FBC survives it. Emily is how we as players react to all that's going on, since we're insulated from the danger by the 4th wall. She's not the everman since most people wouldn't act like she is in her shoes, but she is empathized with because most of the player base feels similarly excited to understand the world of control.
Crazy to think everyone is just a character in an Alan Wake novel. Max Payne, Jack Joyce (probably) and Jesse Faden. All written into existence by Sam Lake's favorite novelist. Might not be true but it would be awesome if so.
I think the universe here for the RCU isn't that simple. Personally, I think Quantum break and Jack were a creation of Alan. For the rest, it is more him nudging people into situations to benefit him.
Actually, math major here. 1+1=2 cannot be proven true. It is an axiomatic property of what are called "real numbers". Even in Principia Mathematica there are prior axioms. See also Agrippa's trilemma.
Also, even if string theory (or whatever theory you name) were to be false, researching it would still yield more understanding as to _why_ it is false, and therefore be useful. I guess the lesson I'm going for is that often failure can be turned into success via recontextualisation.
7:50 Wow, this whole bit with the waitress and the fictional band you and your father were going to see is amazing for how much it undermines your own self-analysis skills. That waitress was doing exactly what most of them do - she being polite and sociable on a surface level in the hopes of cementing a gratuity. Telling the two of you that this band you claimed was "famous" and that you really liked was actually so obscure she'd never heard of them would have been totally counterproductive to that goal. She went a bit farther than some would by constructing an elaborate scenario involving her own parents, but this was still nothing but a case of socially accepted lying in hope of reward. Only your own confirmation bias is making you believe her unwillingness to admit ignorance was unmotivated. She wanted your money. If you'd tried the same story on a wholly disinterested party they likely would have asked you for more information or admitted ignorance. If you'd done it to someone who was hostile or in a bad mood or who just knew the local music scene well you might have gotten told you were crazy, no such band existed, no such show was taking place, and what were you up to, some kind of ticket-scalping scam? Now, you could raise the question of why she chose to prevaricate when saying she hadn't heard of the band and asking you for more information, which might have worked just as well to get that tip. Maybe she didn't want to chance getting sucked into a lengthy exchange with two music fanatics while she had other tables to wait, or she made a snap judgement that faking more familiarity than she had would be a stronger approach, or yes, maybe her calculations included not wanting to look ignorant. Those are all possibilities. There's also the outside chance that you picked a band name that actually belongs to some obscure group that she and her parents listen to, and that she was honestly happy to hear they were in town and putting on a show she hadn't been aware of. If so, you probably spoiled her day when she went looking later on and discovered it wasn't happening. I hope you feel bad about it. :)
I can guarantee her comments were only because she was trying to be polite and going along with customer service. That being said how often so we blindly accept false information because we are trying to be polite? Personally, I've never been embarrassed about saying I don't know something or admitting ignorance.
@@GamingUniversityUoG And what about the reverse? How often do you deliberately correct obviously inaccurate statements made by someone else? Or do you usually let it slide in the name of courteous behavior? How much do power dynamics affect your choices there? Do you tell your bosses they're wrong as often as your co-workers? If you do hear something you have doubts about, do you ask for their sources, or research the subject further yourself? In 2023 it's generally a trivial effort to do a quick fact check on most subjects, but how often do people really go online and put in the work to see if (and how) they're being misinformed?
Little late in responding but I wanted to touch base. I certainly do correct my boss and co workers when it is justified. I generally go into writing my scripts with the intention of disproving my own argument. But I fully admit that no one can do this all the time. I rarely accept things on face value and file it away as a possibility rather than fact. I fall into this same flawed way of thinking like anyone else. The point of this was to try and bring attention to the trap. Knowing of the traps existence is step one in avoiding it. Doesnt mean we always avoid it.
Universal truth is far more important than being right. Unfortunately, it is RARE to find a personality like Emily that can readily admit that they were wrong. Most of us humans are naturally born narcissistic and the more you fight behaviors like this, the more you realize how little control you have. Still, it's important to try.
A good example of Emily Grokking something that is not objectively factual is her claim in The Foundation that Jesse had summoned her to the location when she had not. In fact, it seems more likely that this was the act of Polaris, the Hadron Resonance Symbiont living in Jesse's head but, because the two are effectively one merged person, Emily 'heard' this summons in Jesse's voice, someone she reflexively trusts and admires and this convincing her that Jesse had summoned her and take prompt action.
Ignorance is not what your referring to in my opinion ignorance is the person knowing that it is not real and not caring if it is they flat out don't care and don't what to hear it because it conflicts with your believe now that is ignorance. But some not knowing anything at all your going on about is lack of knowing you can't be ignorant about something you don't know anything about and when you do then you can chose to be ignorant of it or not interested in it. Not being interested is not ignoring it you just don't want to know but may get back to it if you feel like it ignoring it flat out and not caring at all because it goes against what you believe now that's ignorant. Respect dude and keep up the epic work 😃👍.
Ignorance by definition is simply, 'a lack of knowledge or understanding'. I think you're also referring to someone who chooses to remain ignorant or has no desire to gain knowledge of understanding of a thing. From the model presented, this is basically someone who is so comfortable in their ignorance they fight to remain there. Think Cypher from the Matrix. He wishes to return to ignorance.
i knew i liked emily when i picked up her report on the Hiss Incantation. The clear exasperation with her colleagues who discounted it as nonsense was something I really vibed with, as at the time my friends were mostly liberals and the Trump administration was in full force. Everyone was acting like Trump’s ramblings weren’t worth listening to, they were nonsense from a senile idiot except when they were explicitly hateful. I strongly believed and continue to believe that Trump’s rhetoric is intentional, tactical and interesting; he casts a strong spell on his followers while enraging his opponents. It’s an incantation of a sort, and analyzing how he speaks and how it affects those who hear him is a worthwhile pursuit, just from a basic sociolinguistic perspective, because it’s objective fact that his speeches provoke strong, statistically significant emotional response. Emily’s obvious passion for the pursuit of understanding and the fact that she perseveres in her analysis despite others on her “side” mocking or discouraging her attempt made me trust her completely, and I was super glad there wasn’t a twist betrayal of some kind.
My major 'conflicting' thought, and something which I hold as a universal truth by your reasoning, is that objectivity is unobtainable by humanity. Even empiricism is simply the collective agreement of multiple subjective interpretations of inherently limited datasets. There are no 'facts' in the first place, save the fact of our limitation as 3/4/5th dimensional perspectives, merely our current understanding of what is considered true. Meaning and factual truths are inherently biased and lacking even through the collection methods we use - no matter what we do, our 'grok' of a subject is, at best, incomplete.
This right here is one for the philosophers. Using a different paradigm it is why modern depictions of the Goddess Justice as seen in court rooms is blindfolded so that Justice remains objective. However, in older versions of this like Dice in the Greek pantheon. she is not Blindfolded since she can remain objective without having her eyes covered. At the end of the day we just do the best we can in regards to this topic.
@@GamingUniversityUoG My grandfather was a priest, and only recently retired from teaching philosophies at university. We used to bore the entire family with talks about this and related topics when we got together - my grandmother was closer to my wavelength on sociopolitical radicalism. One for the whys and worries, one for the here and now. While the semantics might change meaning, our own meaning is often enough. My best to you and yours.
Doesnt disprove my point. Just gives motivation to go along with falsehood. A very small microcosm but we see this dynamic cranked up to 11 all across history.
I actually find myself exhibiting the opposite of your theory of ignorance - I'll often feign ignorance on topics others bring up, even if I have considerable knowledge on the subject I suspect that I do this as a way a facilitating socialization - People tend to enjoy explaining topics they're knowledgeable about, so by pretending to be ignorant I'm opening that line of conversation I'm still determining if this habit is maladaptive or not
I did the same growing up as well but for different reasons. I usually feigned ignorance because it was easier to socialize when I'm not over analyzing everything. Some topics of conversation make it hard for others to relate to me so i kept it to myself. I agree though. If people get on a topic they are passionate about I like to encourage it.

Wow great explanation
Emily really is a great character. I always loved hearing her hypotheses on the strange happenings around the Oldest House. I hope she has a big part to play in any further games in the series.
Emily is definitely a high point in the story. She is basically the epitome of the fanbase who loves researching every little bit of the world.
I do too
The editing is phenomenal! Yellow Bat did a great job :D
Emily is definitely one of my favorites from the Bureau and I would have loved to see her and Darling actually interact.
I ship them i hope they break the cycle
Thank you! I do my best to add a little extra into these lore videos.
I could watch a Control video everyday and not get bored. This universe is enthralling
This world is so much fun to dissect. And there is still so much to look at.
@@GamingUniversityUoG it’s so good I got my dad to buy the ultimate edition, just so I could have someone to talk to about 😅
Thank you so much for making these videos!! I’ll definitely try to keep supporting in the future and look forward to your eventual CONTROL 2 videos.
She is my favorite character from the game; smart and beautiful.
Same! Between her and Dr. Ash. Emily is basically me lol. Nerdy about the thinks she is passionate about, a bit asocial, but a chatterbox when around people she likes (Jesse).
Thanks
You got it! And thank you so much for this
The real trick is, see, you quietly change your mind with new & better information, but then gaslight yourself & everyone else into believing that's what you always _really_ thought.
I love this new editing, and nice job explaining how Emily is a true scientist 👍
Thank you so much! I'm loving how the new editing turned out too
I'd like to think that my interest in the RemedyVerse and Control Lore in general would mean that I would be recruited by the FBC were it real. Oh how I would love to research the paranatural.
Dude that would be awesome!
Like the way you summarised all things can't wait to see more content on control
Once we get news on Control 2 I'm going to flip lol
A line that always stuck with me from Babylon 5: Understanding is a 3-edged sword. Your side, their side, and the truth.

@@GamingUniversityUoG it was a great show th-cam.com/video/HA2cxmFU9zQ/w-d-xo.html
An absolutely fantastic video as always I enjoyed it very much, and don't think I didn't notice the awesome new editing style, much more fluid and dynamic, makes me feel like I'm watching a professional college video rather than an analysis of a game
That's a great compliment. didn't think of it in the manner of a college video. But hey that's the theme of the channel so thank you!
It wouldn't surprise me if 90% were wiped out. Time for a job fair!
Just finished Alan Wake 2 and then control and I am super happy I found your channel!
I am excited about this new editing. Thank you yellow bat. Great job guys.
🙏
I cannot begin to explain how much I love these videos. I have learned a lot, both about control and all the other philosophical subjects you talk about, and for this, I will always be grateful :)
Thank you so much for your kind words and sentiment. One of my philosophies is that when consuming good literature we should walk away with something and not just 2 hours lost on random entertainment.
@@GamingUniversityUoG I agree and think that you truly apply that into your videos, can't wait to see more, and also congrats to the editor too, he has been doing great
Dude this video is so well done. Brilliant Essay GU, and stunning editing yellow bat.
Thank you so much Ethan!
🙌🙌🙌 Another fantastic bit of work, the personalized touch to the videos is magnificent.
I'm loving the new editing as well. Yellow Bat did an incredible job.
Everyone said it already, but yeah, the new editing takes you to a next level. Keep it up!
I'm excited for the new editing too!
came for the emily lore, stayed for the social commentary. love this video! subbed
Ooh slick new editing - love it!
Thank you good sir! Been working with a friend for the new editing and really like how it has turned out.
Like, wow. I did expect to like it that much XD
I sincerely hope the channel continues this way
The new editing style being reminiscent of Control is fantastic and I love it
There's only one thing I have to say about it :
I'm pretty sure that I'm speaking on behalf of the majority when I say WE NEED THE FROG'S THEME BACK! :)
That song has become my headcanon Gaming University Theme and I think a lot of others think the same.
Other than that, everything is great
P.S. Wow Monty Zander is here
Haha thank you so much buddy! Well luckily the new song at the end is still a Chrono theme. It is Departed Souls from Chrono Cross. Can't get away from my first RPG love.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Well it's not the same, but I suppose that's the "next phase requires new theme" argument. I get it
5:15 am and we get this for blessings?! Thank you so much and congrats on making big moves! I hope for nothing but successfulness for your channels!
Good Morning! And thank you so much. I hope to see how this week all turns out.
Really digging the new editing style ! 🥰
The Yellow Bat from the community is to thank for the editing! I really like how it turned out too.
Good video, I learned a lot from it.
I have to admit though, I am unsure of how many videos you can make on control, but if they will take time to make it as good as this video; then I am happy to wait for them.
Wait around this week. Got plenty more Control content to come!
Just wooow... this is insane video... a very different level in the presentation and production of this video, I am so excited about this new editing...
Emily Pope character is very special and mysterious at the same time... she must have her own separate game called ''The Philosophy of Emily Pope'' lol hahahaha....

I love emily. I can probably empathize with her the most out of all the characters.
Awesome video as always! The new editing is looking great!
I like how it all turned out too! And thanks
- Lily&

also you really should link your streaming channel in the channel recommendations tab.
I'll have to figure out how to setup channel recommendations. I'm not the most knowledgeable of how TH-cam is under the hood lol
@@GamingUniversityUoG man, TH-cam made this so much harder now, in fact, it seems to be impossible now?
Well the least you could do is go to customization > add section > featured channel then finding your streaming channel
Edit nvm
This works and adds it to the channel tab, no way to do it separately anymore (also can't delete from homepage without deleting from the channel tab
Hope this helps, would also recommend you see what else the customization tab does
Loved the video about my favorite character.
It's probably a long time ago. The log we got was just a single page, with the earliest date at the top being a few weeks before the incident.
love the new editing style, turned out great! only small bit of criticism i have is that i find the background music a little too loud at times. makes listening and comprehending a little harder. but that might also just be me thing and the majority is probably totally fine with it. still maybe something to take into consideration :)
I'll definitely take a second look at it. Thanks for the heads up. I know it can sound different between phone and PC. And its good to hear you like the new editing style as well!
Hearing Emily talk was one of my favourite parts of the game. I always looked forward to going back to Central area to catch up with her
Emily is the best, and all I really need in any future RCU games is more Emily Pope.
Agreed
Seriously, how can you not like her? She's such an amazing character, i loved her from the first moment she stepped out of the shelter!
Emily is basically us if we got dropped into a crazy world like Control. Just nerding out everywhere lol
Came searching for silver and found gold. Excellent video!
I would say you'll get tired of everyone complimenting the editing but have one more! ten points and a parrot badge for Yellow Bat!
He is reading these comments but I'll make sure to DM him as well to let him know you all love his work!
(A comment on a topic, not about the game.)
It is funny how we can come with great knowledge, infused with wisdom (-for such people), along with our bountiful capabilities. Yet, we are still very much limited, and quite imperfect. We are who we are.
I really like that quote you put up. It sounds rather humble or it is. Just pure honesty
Informational video, as per usual.
I love these videos. Keep it up.
Got plenty more to come.
Great to see that you are still doing videos about Control.
Btw: Do you think, that we will see the FBC in Alan Wake 2?
In a small way yes the FBC will be in Alan Wake 2. They already set up Agent Estevez as being the head of the Cauldron Lake Monitoring Station. They took over Hartman's old lodge as their base of operations. I would be surprised if she didn't show up.
Great video on Emily.
Thanks a bunch Willis!
Great video! You should check out Nier Automata, the game is full of pholosophy, it has a sci fi setting and a unusual story.

Wow. What an overnight glow-up of your presentation, i figured there would be a transitional period of some kind but here we are.

Like how two different people, can hear the same song and get different meaning
100%. We tend to look at subjective things as objective. And vice versa.
2:40 "As mentioned above-" hehehe the video essayist in me caught this one. gotta be aware of what word works in a script (vertical scale) and what word works in a video (chronological scale).
Late to the party. Noticed that Quantum Break soundtrack in the background there. Very nice nod sir.
The thought of a second game is extremely exciting, I don't care how long it takes it'll only make it better
I cant wait for the sequel
It's still a long time away. Remedy is fairly small and they've got Alan Wake 2 as well as Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes lined up.
In a sense, Emily is like a mentat from _Dune_ . But where characters like Thufir Hawat build a reasonable conclusion based on a false foundation, Emily questions her premises. She is very thorough and unafraid to say she doesn't know, she definitely has great potential.
9:35 Where is this hidden location at? I completed the game but I dont think Ive been in that one.
This one is right at the entrance of the Containment sector. Left of the elevator I believe.
I can't play it yet but there's always something to learn here
Let me know your thoughts when you get the chance!
I love these videos! 😁
Good to hear!
A lot of the themes in this video seem relevant to Bayesian reasoning. It generally has to do with updating beliefs or conceptual framework based on the introduction of new information. Worth looking into if you aren’t already familiar with it.
"This was one of the Greatest Explanations of Religion I ever heard..."
In the words of Somni-451, "Truth is singular. Its versions are mistruths"
Shes definitely my favourite Control character
Einestein.
I hope in the sequel Darlin doesn't come back and blow everything you said about Emily out the water
Wouldn't be the first time new info came out and made me rethink some content here. But then isn't that the thesis of this video? If something new is learned then we re-evaluate and recontextualize.
Who is Estevaz in FBC?
14:32 same🥺 i cant wait to aee Emily again
Anybody know what the image at the very end is?
Emily is one of my favorite characters from Control, and I believe part of that is her unwillingness to accept assumptions. She must observe the proof herself, not even taking what Jessie says at face value despite her trust in Jessie
Emily Pope is the GOAT. Jesses foundation at the bureau
This sums up why I like Emily, that and the fact The Board dislikes her.
Agreed and agreed on that lol
She is the Barry wheeler of this game. The person the we the audience can identify with. With Jesse we get an almost robotic response to just crazy weird stimuli because Jesse is the protagonist in an action game and that serves us as the player. Emily's take on everything is one of curiosity and aww and the realization the things around her are anomalies and thus wonderful and terrible to behold. The normal human response. Without Emily the game would get boring fast. She grounds us while Jesse takes us to the upper limits.
While I would say that Arish is the 'everyman' of the plot, Emily is the fanbase who just gets thirsty for more information.
@@GamingUniversityUoG That'd be good enough for me! The more Alan Wake influences the better. Even Sam Lake agrees. It's his personal favorite 💁🏻♂️🔦☕

Brother gets an obsequious answer from a service worker trying to bolster her tip and he thinks he's Jung, classic.
She seems really into Jesse and I don't think it's just scientific curiosity.
Thank you.
Universal truth is far more important than being right. Unfortunately, it is RARE to find a personality like Emily that can readily admit that they were wrong. Most of us humans are naturally born narcissistic and the more you fight behaviors like this, the more you realize how little control you have. Still, it's important to try.
I think being aware of our tendencies is a bit piece of being above it all.
Wow, you mean CONTROL 2 really is a thing?? That'll be niceto see!
Yep! It is in pre-production. Probably wont hear more on it until after Alan Wake 2, Vanguard and Condor comes out.
That waitress was just trying to make a tip
Doesnt disprove my point. Just gives motivation to go along with falsehood. A very small microcosm but we see this dynamic cranked up to 11 all across history.
I actually find myself exhibiting the opposite of your theory of ignorance - I'll often feign ignorance on topics others bring up, even if I have considerable knowledge on the subject
I suspect that I do this as a way a facilitating socialization - People tend to enjoy explaining topics they're knowledgeable about, so by pretending to be ignorant I'm opening that line of conversation
I'm still determining if this habit is maladaptive or not
I did the same growing up as well but for different reasons. I usually feigned ignorance because it was easier to socialize when I'm not over analyzing everything. Some topics of conversation make it hard for others to relate to me so i kept it to myself.
I agree though. If people get on a topic they are passionate about I like to encourage it.
