Finally someone who acknowledges Shulk's counter sucks. They really need to fix it soon. However, it has had one use for me you haven't covered. When you, as Shulk, recover high you can use Vision if you read the opponent is going to use an aerial to edgegaurd you. The Vision will most likely miss, but thanks to Shulk's movement during the counter you can get back to stage safely, usually getting stage control too. But yeah, if you actually wanna attack with it, only use it on the ground with a hard read.
I don't think just because there is weakness to Shulk's counter, It means his counter sucks. I mean, I bet all of us who mains Shulk would love his counter to be invincible, but c'mon.
@@HulkVahkiin I'm not asking for a larger counter window, more power, more invincibility, or anything of that sort. The reason I say Vision sucks is because I agree with what was said in the video. You usually counter a move either from an opponent in the air, or when both you and the opponent are in the air. With nearly every other counter in the game, you would hit the opponent consistently, unless they use an especially long ranged attack. But even if you pull off a succesful Vision, it's extremely likely Shulk will miss the attack if there is any vertical movement going on between him and the target. All I want is for Vision to actually hit if you time it correctly, like all the other counter moves in the game.
Obilobi You do realize there are characters in this game with much much much worse problems than shulk’s counter, right? Like.... King Dedede as a character is just unusably bad. Jigglypuff’s down air to rest combo is never 100% consistent even if done correctly. I don’t think fixing shulk’s counter is very important because he’s already a decent character
@@josephwoo69 Of course there are things that are more important to be fixed than a single move on a single character. But that doesn't change the fact that Vision is the worst counter type move in the game and that on high-level play it's extremly rare that the attack even connects. All I'm saying is that if the developers roll out a new version, making Vision more useful is the biggest thing I'd improve on Shulk in particulair. And while Dedede is far from the best on the roster, he's by no means terrible. He has a particular playstyle that not too many people like to use, but he can certainly be effective with it. And Jigglypuff... Yeah, she got some problems, but I don't think I want ANY of her moves true comboing into Rest to be honest, haha.
@@Olieblob Well I wouldn't get my hopes up because I don't think the developers see any need to buff Shulk as he is. And about Dedede.... I really challenge you to try playing him. I would argue he's the worst in the whole game besides little mac, and I'm saying this as someone who put a lot of time trying to make him work. He's the only heavy that has a hard time killing, his gordo is reflected by everything, and really just doesn't have the tools to deal with 90% of the cast
Yes it can. I can't remember which characters, but I do remember doing it to a few characters. Probably the large ones, or really big hands. Bowser and DK maybe?
What blows my mind is that the monado blade continues to stay on Shulk's back. So of course, his moves are laggy because they had to include extra frame animations of him reaching the weapon; sacrificing speed for range. His tilts needs reworking and for the love of god. Return the monado effects to Smash 4's original. The monado arts is far riskier than safer.
@@manongraymond5481 Yes I agree except for Smash. Shield and Buster are far better in this game, and Jump is so hard to actually use offensively in Ultimate because Shulk has too much mobility in the air, and with Speed Shulk deals too much damage and can't use Speed as well for recovering. Smash was risky in both games, but I feel like the reward for Smash in Smash 4 wasn't enough that it was worth it. In Ultimate although the risk is very high, it actually Koes very early.
I think his tilts are fine except for down tilt, which could use a little more speed. His jab is horrible, and easily one of the worst in Ultimate! I prefer how his arts work more in Ultimate. I liked the Hyper Monado arts in Smash 4. Although I prefer Speed far more in Smash 4, and prefer Jump in Smash 4, Shield is actually useful and one of his best arts in Ultimate, Buster is much better, and Smash is worth using. I do miss being able to switch between Speed and Jump or Buster all the time though. Speed is so much worse in Ultimate!
@@manongraymond5481 I'm almost certain that I have hit some characters that were under the ledge before. Or maybe they were just barely above the ledge. Either way, Shulk already has enough great options for when the opponent is off the stage. He doesn't need another tool for that situation. He just needs less startup on some of this moves. He's already a top tier character in my opinion. I think his only bad matchup is against Snake, and he does well against some of the best characters like Peach.
Keep at it! It takes time to learn Shulk. Getting the hang of using Neutral air, and spacing fair and bair are the first major steps to playing Shulk. It's often times better to learn vanilla Shulk before worrying about the arts

Ah yes Shulk, my favourite Jojo character. Seriously though this was very helpful
My favorite shulk art is jump I love being able to move ridiculously fast in the air ,and combo people off the screen.

I love pulling out shulk in a competitive scene and confusing people when i actually play shulk right
I wasn't expecting so many Jojo references, just a Shulk guide
GURETO DESU YO
out of every single shulk video ive seen, none of them tell you how to fastfall the back air without making the hitbox not come out, thank youuuu

Did shulks counter ever get fixed or is it still not always consistent

When using Nair, should I press A and then fastfall, or vice versa?
Josiah Choi press jump and a at the same time and as soon as the animation starts fastball so you don’t accidentally down air
