SERVICE GRADE M1 GARAND DESCRIPTION
Service Grade Rifles will show less wear and a better cosmetic appearance than a Field or Rack Grade. Cosmetic condition will be good to very good. Rifle finish may vary, exhibiting normal wear and/or color variation among the metal parts. May have some visible pitting, frosting, or other minor cosmetic deformity on the metal parts. Stock sets may consist of any species of wood (or combination thereof); and could exhibit dents, dings, scratches, and/or structurally insignificant cracks. New production, commercial stock sets may be used, and will likely exhibit signs of wear and prior use. Bores will be bright, and free of any major defect that would be visible to the naked eye. The exterior circumference of the barrel crown may be nicked, dented, or dinged, but such deformity will not extend into the bore. Service Grade muzzles will gauge “3 or less” and the throat erosion will gauge less than 5. A reasonable allowance for gauge tolerances will be afforded.
Manufacturer selection guarantees only that the receiver was produced by the manufacturer listed. The barrel, receiver, and other parts may have been produced by other manufacturers; and may also be of commercial origin with original, re-parkerized, or other commercial finish.

You can tell this is a labor of love for these Gentlemen. Thank you!
Yes sir they truly were. Unfortunately the Civilian Marksmanship Programs’ manangement has decided not to keep this series going. We are glad you enjoyed them!
@@CivilianMarksmanshipProgram That's too bad. I'll miss their info. Can't wait to get my order in.
80 years old with scratches. I am an 85 year old Army retiree with lots of scratches.
Thank you for caring and for making these pieces of American history available to its citizens.
How do you buy one. Always wanted a M1 grand
Don't patronize the commercial CMP. The DCM was the better of the two. These hillrods all make $ off your purchase.
I received my expert grade a few weeks back and I have to say I could not be happier. You guys do outstanding work.
Fantastic! We are so glad you love it. Thank you for your support.
The expert grade is truly a great value for an amazing rifle.
My service grade Winchester is a beauty. My expert IH is amazing to look at, and an excellent shooter. It is outstanding.
All the folks in Anniston and Talladega are some of the nicest, most helpful people you’ll find anywhere. Thanks guys!
Thank you, CMP, I was a student in the very early "80's and received my Garand after processing for I believe $168.00 including shipping. Thank you for your work.
Good stuff that was an amazing time for military surplus.
I have bought an M1 Springfield Garande for my best friend and his father as a gift. His father was actually issued that same rifle when he served. Very proud to have had the opportunity to gift it to them.
Beautiful rifle..
I purchased my M1 Garand from the CMP in 1989 (for $165). I had a friend mount a new match grade barrel, but that's the only change I've made. Serial number matches the September 1944 production run. I'll have this rifle until I'm gone :)
I have bought two service grade CMP M1's, one 25 years ago and one about 20. I also bought ammo from CMP. Always a pleasure to deal with. The first, and best rifle was sent to my home and the second I picked myself in Anniston. Both great shooters in good shape. First one was a pretty low number SA. Second was SA, with higher number. If I were younger I would be looking at the Philippine stuff. But I can no longer shoot high powered long guns due to an injury, so that is out. CMP is awesome.
I love the CMP and the great work that you all do. Your customer service group is first-rate.
Our pleasure!
Thank you to you both and the CMP for keeping these awesome firearms alive and kicking. Please keep up all the great work that you all do, for all of us. I greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!
I ordered a Service Grade rifle a few years ago and its my favorite firearm. Beautiful wood, beautiful metal, and an awesome shooter. Thank you CMP!
You guys do an excellent job. I've been to the advanced maintenance class It was everything and even more than I expected. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
Eagerly awaiting my Expert Grade now but very happy you are doing videos like this and Camp Perry videos. I approached CMP from the history perspective, wanted that. Now because of the videos, I've started ordering parts to put together a Service Rifle to compete. Thank you for sparking this in me.
😭 This is the best response we could've hoped for. If you need any information about competing we have tons on our website and would be glad to answer any question you may have. We hope you enjoy your rifle and have fun out on the range!
You guys are preserving pieces of our history and I'm glad to be able to own these rifles you've refurbished. I was having an issue with one of my CMP rifles and once they had received it, Bobby called me to ask me what it was doing and offered some advice on using it. That rifle runs perfect now. Very nice guy who takes pride in his work! I love the videos, keep them coming!
Thank you guy's and the CMP. I have been collecting from the CMP for 30 years.. only the BEST !!!
Thank you for your support! We hope your enjoying your rifles!
I'd like to see these gentlemen's personal M1's. The ones they had to have picked as their favorite they've come across at what I would consider a dream job.
Well you can best believe I'm going to get the Clambake Edition for my Elvis Presley fan club
Do the Clam.
Thank you guys we really appreciate the video . I’ll be coming down soon. I may even bring some cornbread.😂
We'll be waiting for ya! Bring some beans too! 🤣
Thanks to both of you! Merry Christmas! I bought a CMP Service grade Springfield M1 a while back and you guys answered all my questions and am very happy for it. Godspeed! You guys are pros! The best!
Can’t wait to get mine, my documents have been sent for over a month and im ready to receive this beauty in no time.
Have you ever done a video comparing rack, field, and service rifles side by side?
We haven't but we will! Thanks for the suggestion!
Real nice videos lately. Keep up the good work. Appreciate all you fine folks.
Thank you! We are trying to post more here. :)
thanks for my RM1Service I got back in 2021! Shoots great after shimming the trigger group. Great video, and great information.
Awesome! They are so much fun on the range.
Excellent video of the grade of the rifle. Thank you for your service to this program.
These two are a great team.
Love the videos and CMP .
We love you too.
0:50 Mine looks like the one with the darker wood. See my comment below. But NOT with all those dings and dents and scratches.
I forgot to mention I changed to a new Gas Plug to shoot modern ammo. Yes, I still have the original.
Always love your videos....thanks
Glad you like them!
hey guys you can make one up for me as long as it's got a good action and barrel. you can have the stock made up out of wine barrel staves it's still a m1. the information about the Danish sounds really good thank you. I'll be seeing you guys someday soon!
Cool, from Argentina third post good!
Thanks!!
well boys I've been talking to the wife for 5 years about this. I've been saving up my money and I'm bringing cash. I told her I don't want a collector's item I want something I can carry into the woods and not have to shoot the wild hog for five times. you never know how many they will be. can't beat to 30 odd 6. legal semi-automatic. God bless America! semper Fi!
Excellent video - Thanks!
Thanks for what you do😊
Would like to see a video on rack grade
Hey! We've actually done one on the rack grade! It's linked below.
th-cam.com/video/Ek1P0Le6JqI/w-d-xo.html
Great video. Which of the 3 stores would have the largest selection?
They are all unique in different ways but I wouldn't say that any are larger than the others. If you're looking to browse a larger selection of rifles the Talladega Marksmanship Park and CMP South Store are 30 minutes away from each other. Giving you a bit more variety if you visit both.
From L-R Jim-Bob.
This is great! Can you do the same for the Field Grade?
Love the M1 lore. A question if you please. I have my grandfather 1918 build M1903 Mark-1. It still has all the original trigger gear for the Pederson device. I am looking for a replacement stock since the stock on it (not original) is sporterized. Would the CMP have the correct straight wristed, two reinforcing bolted stock for purchase???
I have a H&R M1 Garand. I believe the gun is arsenal correct, every part that I have checked the drawing numbers match the H&R serial number. Is there any one I can send the gun off to determine if the M1 is arsenal correct?
STUPID QUESTION TIME - does the CMP sell Garand’s with all matching parts? How difficult is it to get a Garand with all matching parts?
I saw you are out of these, do you get new stock every year, or is it random?
I thought the service grade was sold out?
What should I expect to pay for a higher grade M1?
Pricing and availability can be found here:
thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/
@@CivilianMarksmanshipProgram Thank you
How many Garands are left to sell?
Don't rest that rifle on the handguard. Rest it on the stock by the sling swivel. Pressure on the barrel messes up the harmonics of the barrel and kills the accuracy of the rifle!!!!
I picked up a CMP M1 Garand at a gun show a couple years ago. It came with a blue colored tag that says; Rifle Grade: RMISPECIAL. Is this similar to service grade, if not, what exactly does this mean? I would love to know, for future reference. Thanks.
Does it have new wood on it?
@@machinistmikethetinkerer4827 The wood is in very good shape, so I'm assuming that it is new.
The special grade has new wood from Dupage Trade Company, reparkerized internals, and a new criterion barrel.
Thanks to you CMP Pukes my $310 Service grades a worth over 2K each. DCM was way better than CMP greed.
The prices CMP charges for these Garands is ridiculous. I understand there are certain costs associated with servicing these rifles, however these rifles were bought and paid for, some with blood, over 60+ years ago. It's highway robbery for what they charge for them. The CMP under the DCM was not designed to operate like this.
I thought my man said "rat grade".
🐀
Bring them back down to $800 and you might get my money. Not these Yankee prices
I only held and fired one when I was 14. I never had fired a large caliber rifle. The range was 100 and 200 yard. First and only shot was a center if the bull on target. I would love to own one. They won WW2
Thank you all that work at the CMP! My brother in law and I took a one way flight down to the south store and we bought our first m1 garands together, and made a 12 hour drive back up to home! Even 3 weeks later I’m still ecstatic about the experience. It was a great memory. Even went to talladega and shot them. Next year we plan to go to the north store a few hours away. Thank you all again for your work and knowledge and helpfulness.
Thank you, gentlemen, and the rest of the CMP staff, for your knowledge and tireless service to the community. I received a few service grades over the years, and they were one of a kind, usable pieces of history to be cherished by generations to come.
Had the privilege of meeting both gentlemen and had mr. Kent fix my rifle yesterday. I love the fact these gentlemen love and care for their customers and craft. Amazing people.
Good Job Guys.
Thank you!
Garandgear sells a nice little soft cover for the op rod handle.
Personally I think the dings and scratches look cool.
Thanks Guys Cant Wait For The Next One.
Guy's THANKS !! Do you guy's know if South Korea has any of our M! carbines ? Will the CMP ever offer any M1 carbines again ?
You boys are AWESOME! And so appreciated by us fellow M1 owners! Keep on rockin boys!
Thank you!
How soon will we see these commercial parts on the E-store?
I would love to see the CMP made gas cylinders available on the Estore, I would definitely be interested in purchasing one!
I really appreciate these videos. Thankyou!
We’re glad you like them!
Such a great informative video!! Thanks for posting this for us who want to buy one of these great battle rifles.
Thank ya'll for all that you do. I love my M1 and 1903 that I picked up at the Talladega store a few years ago. The preservation of the is history is amazing.
Just sent in an order for a service grade. I hope it looks good!
Great video. I am going to go to the Ohio store. I'm from Northern Michigan.
Love my M1 I bought from you guys a few years ago. Keep up the good work!
Glad it's been serving you well. Thank you!
Awesome video!! Thank you guys so much for making these videos. Really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into refurbishing these rifles for others to enjoy marksmanship. Have a great week!
Thanks for the kind words. We take a lot of pride in what we do here!
Always glad to see y’all in person at CMP TMP Proshop helping me and others decide on picking a rifle that may have unique characteristics, and on TH-cam! Have you thought about taking your act on the road like “who’s on 1st” - Abbott & Costello?
Appreciate all the information. Including filming with multiple cameras and having B roll footage!
Will there he a video for field grade?
Coming soon!
Gentlemen, thank you for another very informative video!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I just read in a comment that these fine Men well no longer making these videos, a loss for us.
It has inspired me and i send my order in for a Service grade about a week ago. Put a note asking for a WW 2 rifle with original wood. I know ill get what i get and well be happy.
I'll have it to pair up with my 1911 i got from the CMP, my most treasured firearm.
You guys are doing such a great job keeping history alive
keep up the great work guys! would love to visit the south store again sometime in the near future
Thanks, we look forward to seeing you!
Looking forward to my service grade Garand! She will be my range shooter! Great job, CMP!
Thank you for all you do. One day im going to make that trip up to your shops
Love you guys and the work you do. Thank you for your service.
I got my expert special almost 20 yrs ago after I got out of the service. -so glad I did. Thinking of getting another one.
You guys are GREAT ! Purchased another M-1 at Perry last week. Expert grade in 7.62. Could not be happier ! Keep up the good work !
Thank you kindly! To two knowledgeable well meaning and smart southern gentlemen, of the old school. You are a credit to the your employer at the CMP. You helped me a lot.
Wow, thank you!
You should comment that parts interchangability is key in military weapons , so for any weapon to be as produced is virtually impossible and is totally normal in a service weapon, to have mixed parts.
I havr purchased 2 service grade rifles in the recent years and bot had a lot of dents dings ,even gashes in the stocks. They were bad. They didn't look anything Luke these rifles on the table.
I just mailed my order form in for 3 more service grade rifles. Hopefully my luck changes.
Nonetheless I love these rifles. A true combination of art, History and a fun time .
I just completed the M1 Advanced Maintenance Class in Anniston. It was a fantastic experience and I love my new rifle.
My CMP Service grade M1 came with one of your new Walnut stocks and I must say that it was flawless. I did add about 6 coats of boiled linseed. You guys do admirable work and should be congratulated on a regular basis.
Are these in stock for mail order?
Not Currently. 8.24.2023
Pricing and availability can be found here:
thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/
What the turn around time for these? I placed an order over a month ago and haven't heard anything back yet.
Will the M1A (M-14s) ever come back?
You mean the rifle might look like it has been in a fight? Whoodathunkit
Can I take a standard pistol training with live firing class to apply for an M1 Garand?
Yes, that would fulfill our Marksmanship Requirement. You can find a form to submit at thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/ClubMemberCert.pdf.
7 Great Uncles In WW2 And A M1 Garand
Thank you so much for the videos! I had two great uncles who served in WW2. Both carried the M1 to my knowledge. I was able to purchase an expert grade about a year ago from a man who wanted to downsize his personal collection. I'm thankful to now have a piece of history. This M1 has performed wonderfully. Thank you CMP for your commitment in preserving these timeless pieces of history!! God Bless !!
That's an amazing history. We hope you are enjoying your M1!
Beech wood with the spots
👍🏼🥃🇺🇸
**********im a veteran and heard about this *******how do i get one of these*****??????????****and do you have m-14-s
You will find ordering details on our website at thecmp.org/cmp_sales/ordering-information/ and our current inventory at thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/,
How often do the service grade rifles come back in stock?
There is no set schedule and we grade our firearms on an individual rifle by rifle basis. Depending on the set of rifles we are working they could be more, less, or no service grades that come out of that crate.
G'Day from Australia,
Enjoyed your video. Will make every effort to visit one of your stores when I next visit the US. Wont be able to buy a Garand and ship it back to OZ but would be great to see what is available.
Cheers,
Steve
I'm very happy to say that I am one of the customers that drove 12 hours a couple years back, and left with 2 excellent rifles and, as discussed, a very big smile on my face. About to make my next order... I think I'm going to go for my yearly max this time! Just a quick question, I know nothing is guaranteed... but do people leave notes on their order form? For instance... if its possible I would love 4 H&R and 2 Springfields to help round off my collection a little bit... would it be an annoyance to include a note like that on my order form? Thanks in advance for all you guys do!
Great video, y'all. Any leads on a 03A3 stock?
