A simple and honest bike, which manages to be a lot of fun and a blast to ride on PUBLIC ROADS. I am a 2020 MT 07 owner, A2 restricted, and be sure that in 2022 i'm going to buy the new model, with the full power... Call me crazy, but the MT07 feels like home for me, all the bike i need
Why you are going to buy a new one ? You can just buy a new electronic with out A2 restrictions or just take off the restrictions talk to Yamaha guy service he might help you

Sv650 still wins price/quality at least in my country. Mt07 too plastic and the swing arm rust is a safety concern on any bike with more than 3 years. My sv650 is 16 years old and no rust on frame, engine or swing arm. Still, I only wish more brands would make this twin middleweights because they are the best real world use motorbikes money can buy
If you only need a bike to last through a press launch, it's the MT-07. If you want something to last for decades get an old aluminum framed SV650. My SV650 is 20 years old and not a spec of rust either.
I rode 700 Nighthawks back in the day. Winding out a middleweight 4 cylinder, like the current CBR650r is so much fooking fun! That bike was a pig tho, not flickable. I’d prolly now agree that a skinny light 700 twin would keep me in grins.
Another great round up. Got to ride a new trident at the weekend when my thunderbird sport was being serviced. For me the throttle was too light and the engine buzzy. Recently sold my 19 plate mt07 and I much preferred my older Yam to the Trident: felt a nicer bike so I’m sure the new one will be even better. The best mod I made to the Yam were Pirelli angel gt2 and ebc pads, so much nicer than stock so I think the Michelin road 5 are a great choice. Good work Mr Neeves 👍🏻
I currently own 2 Harleys and have a 2022 MT07 on preorder, both my HD's have 666 somewhere on them so when you said if you have a little devil in you I knew I made the right decision about preordering
I have a 2016 Black FZ-07 with basically a straight pipe with a loop. Really fun bike, awesome sound, pretty comfortable. I can only hit about 115, it isn't tuned for the exhaust yet. I may turbo it in the future, depends on how the R7 does. I may get an R7 as well and turbo that one.
Cracking little bikes for sure ... I had a 2018 from new for bout 18 months and loved it. Traded it in against a new 790 Duke and find the Duke to be a comprehensively better machine .. but then it should be as it was more expensive. MT07s are great, basic, easy to ride, no faffing about and plenty of fun .. a good slice of easily accessible biking. The 790 in comparison is a little more 'serious' with all it's trick electronics and settings etc etc .. but, in my opinion, also more fun to ride :) One thing I do miss from the MT though is the sound .. with a decat and decent end can on them they sound properly brutal .. very deep, sharp, loud and aggressive .... nicer sound than the 790 makes for sure ;)
You call the mt-07 a little bike, then tout the Duke's electronic aides. Perhaps you should have spent more time learning to ride on the mt-07 then bumped up to a full on litre.
I had an 2018 MT-07 from new, put about 8.5k miles on it before I part-exed it for an MT-09 SP last summer. The 07 is a great bike if you want something you can commute on and also have a lot of fun around the country backroads of an evening/weekend, albeit a bit carefully given the bouncy suspension. CP3 engine over CP2 for me all day though
@@itzajdmting I might not be the best person to ask, I'm abnormally short for a grown man so probably not reflective of an average rider. When I test rode the 09 after riding the 07 for a couple of years, I remember thinking the 09 was much more comfortable for my legs. Less of a bend in the knees. Besides that, didn't notice much difference. I prefer the seat on the 09 too, but that's just my personal preference. I had the Yamaha billet adjustable foot pegs installed on my 09 prior to delivery - purely for aesthetic reasons and I've come to really dislike them, I should really try to adjust them to a position that I like better. Stock ones on my test ride were much more comfortable.
@@assortedpov thanks for the info. My knees arent great so that was actually pretty useful and ties in with my own experience. I was looking at an 09 recently and the riding ergonomics looked a lot more forgiving on the knees than on the 07. The 07 looks like a bit of a crampsd leg position. I wonder if upgrading the rear sets might enable me to make the leg position a bit roomier in the 07? Shame bikes don't have adjustable pegs out the box.
@@assortedpov might be a bit late but if you chat with the bike shop they might fit the rear sets for you. Adjust them to suit you. Even chat directly with the mechanic, throw him a few quid.
@@Google_Does_Evil_Now The official Yamaha billet adjustable rearsets I had broke - ended up having the original footrests re-installed about 6 months ago.
I did my DAS course on a MT07 and loved riding it to bits. But I would never buy one. Why? Because of the styling, and this facelift hasn't changed my mind. That said Neevesy, yet another great review! Thank you!
I swapped my XSR 900 for a KTM Duke 690 R. Thought about the MT 07/XSR 700, but I haven’t looked back...150 kgs and 70 hp from the big thumper. I might test ride the mt07 back to back with the KTM Duke 790.
06:46 The MT-07 isn't exactly well built. It has a lot of issues. Most of all, they rust like crazy. I've seen examples of them showing up only a few months after they rolled out of the store. At that point, it's under warranty. But if you're going to buy one used. Check the frame, all the bolts, handlebar, forks and swingarm for rust. That said, it's a Fantastic bike if you get a good one.
I think these will be a future classic in the same way bikes like the CB750, SV650 such are. Nothing special on paper, but when you ride them they can provide damn near the same fun as the super bikes of their day.
@@rlsedition There was nothing ground breaking about the UJMs of the 80s and 90s yet here they are classics today and for much the same reasons. Nobody is going to care about a bike like the 998 Panigale in 10 years, but you can bet everyone with a bike and their mother will know the MT07, same as they do the SV650.
@@remigusker6024 Depends on how you define a "classic" bike. I'd say the machines with something special or innovative might qualify, like the first edition GSX-R, Honda Fireblade or Ducati 916. The Yamaha and Suzuki SV650 are good values (to some), but that doesn't seem to be enough.
I had my 2016 fz-07 stolen after a year of ownership (put 10k miles on it during that year). I went out and got a mt-09 with my insurance money shortly afterwards.... the mt-09 is great but most of my riding is around town, the MT-09 is just SO powerful. if you cough and let your throttle hand roll back slightly you'll suddenly be doing a wheelie at 100 mph. Def thinking about downgrading back to a mt-07 or street triple in the near future. Edit: forgot to add i think the mt-07 sounds better than the mt-09. Triples have a great sound, but i think i prefer the twin of the mt-07.
Hello Michael ! Patiently waiting the Tuono V4 factory review ! 😍 I want to know if it is the most flickable bike of the category. Especially in the chicanes and S-corners. It will help me for my purchase. Thanks ! 👍
I rode an older one of these and an SV as a learner while in my 40s. Liked both for different reasons but disliked them for the same reason, styling. The headlight on the gladius and mt put me right off. MT felt easier to ride, fast and comfy with spot on fuelling. The SV took a bit to get used to as it felt a bit more raw, firmer and faster. Some more clutch finesse pulling away. I preferred the v twin though, made me smile wider.
Test rode one, hated it felt loose n cheap . Seemed unfinished and skimped on build quality. Got something much better . Happy as. Over hyped if u ask me . Missed the mark could have been better if they put the money I to it. Hopefully this new model is better.
1) I wish it was more prominent in middleweight twin circuits but aftermarket parts seem to have lagged after the initial "FZ07R" was created. 2) I wish the XSR700 was easier to find.
Loved my XSR700, but traded up to a Velocity Moto 900LC based on the XSR900 and wow, as good as that CP2 engine is the CP3 is better all over. Not knocking the 700, but try the 900 as well. Both great bikes.

I passed my test on one and then had a new one for a week to decided if I wanted to buy one. Decided to get a Ducati 797 instead. Always wondered if I made the right decision there.
As a $3500-$5500 used bike, the MT-07 is beyond amazing, with little comparison but as a $7700 brand new bike, the Trident 660 is superior in every way. Once ecu kits for the trident come out, it will outclass the MT-07 readily even in "Fun factor". The trident is basically a cheaper yet superior XSR700. I say this as a VERY happy owner of a 2017 MT-07.
@@durim187 A valid point, although the Trident has an engine and other major components that we know to be reliable, on average. It really comes down to Triumphs engineering and assembly, more than part reliability (individually).
@@TheELQOL SV650 is its main competitor IMO. In Europe, i dont see Trident beating the Suzuki. You can het them for 6400euros brand new. I am willing to bet Trident will be at least 8K.
@@durim187 Through simple inference, a reasonable amount. The Trident uses a de-tuned motor (with a shorter stroke) from the Daytona 675, which has a VERY reliable track record. The motor itself is around 9 years older and more proven than the fz-07 motor, so a de-tuned version of it would easily outlast the original. Plus you have triumph's record for good fit and finish, and you have enough information to assume very good reliability. The only portion of the bike that may be up for question would be the new speedometer and possibly the electronics.
I own a 2019. Rear and front suspension struggle on the (rather bumpy) roads of my country even in soft configuration. I guess, its propably a rought test for every brands. I did somes enhances , adjustable front suspension and set rear to soft and i fell more save (happy) on long ride, on hightway. Sometimes i thing of change it and go back to 4 cyl, 1000cc (YAM FZ01 like), but guess what ? I'am affraid to miss it or loose sort of fun factor on twisty roads.
i have the same bike but model. ice fluo 2020 ,.. and the bike is sooo fun to drive ,..good power ,..good sound ,.. ,.. yes ,. is the best bike for the money ( 7300 euros )
If you buying the 2021 bike get the MT09 as it’s a big improvement . Earlier bikes, I believe the MT07 is more rounded and you can have just as much fun riding it. Either way, there all great fun bikes and you won’t go far wrong.
Yamaha runs demo rides at dealerships in the US. I took an XSR700 out for a demo about a month ago in CA. You can also try renting one off Twisted Road or Riders Share. I like the direct throttle response and feel of the conventional throttle on the XSR700/MT-07. I'm not a fan of the MT-09's ride-by-wire system. Off to on throttle response can be jerky. Slipper clutch, traction control, and the 40 additional HP on the MT-09 are nice though.
@@dry509 I'm planning on picking up a new MT-07 as soon as my dealer gets it from Yamaha. Looks like that might be early May. If you've never ridden either, I would highly recommend trying to rent or test ride one way or another. Nice video... Let just say that in some areas the price of the latest version is few hundred more than the older version.. is it worth it to spend the extra dollar?
Would you recommend this model for a first time rider? I never drove a motorcycle before and I am just about to start learning. I plan to ride on an open road where it would be so much safer than on regular roads. Thank you in advance.
@@motorcyclenewsdotcom Ok then. I will drop by the dealership ang get me one. I will start learning with this one. It will be my very first time to ride. Thank you.
I'm on the verge of trading up from a Honda 500. Thanks for the review. While soft, the suspension and chassis still allow you to push on through winding roads? How would the MT compare with the GSX S750? I guess the Suzuki will feel tamer and smoother in town but it has the extra ponies of you push the needle up the tach. Possibly better suspension? Same price where I live.
Get the Suzuki. It’s a WAY better bike for the money and it’s not even close. The suspension, motor, and brakes are really good and the styling is phenomenal. The Bridgestone Battleaxe tires are really good as well and you get ABS, traction control, easy start, and clutch assist so the bike is virtually impossible to stall.
@@switchback8746 I test rode one again. Yes smooth and quick. Preferred it to the Street Triple RS in traffic even though the RS had a bit more down low. The bars are a little aggressive for me. I have short legs and therefore arms. I mostly ride around a city and prefer to be more upright in traffic. I am also a bit older
So, XSR700 with a Kenny Roberts Aniversary Speedblock paint job and a decent exhaust wins the class, all day long... I'd prolly put the SV650 above the Trident too, and i like Triumphs...
I just don't understand the decision for old school forks. Even the mt125 gets inverted forks. The whole range does bar the mt07. Whats the deal? Not a deal breaker just strange.
the kawasaki Z650 is better in my opinion after riding both back to back. It handles better, is more comfortable, looks better and is all around just more fun to ride for less money.
The Aprilia's price puts it more in the ball park of the base-spec Yamaha MT-09. What's more, the Tuono makes a claimed power figure of over 20bhp more than the 07. Thanks for watching!

Had mine from new 2016. Still love it. Can never think of any good reason to swap it out.
This is the sort of bike real world reviews I like. 3rd gear mingers sound fun. Still makes me smile that £7000 is cheap. But I am old. Good 2nd hand one seems like a plan & save for a tasty rear shock/tyres/pads. Sorted.
Yeah i got my 2013 gsxr750 brand new for £7999- not much more for a fully fledged sportsbike👍
@@andyp9040 how did you manage that? It was a £10k bike as far as I can see.
Why is the UK used bike market so overpriced? Bikes barely depreciate.
You can just buy a new electronic with out A2 restrictions or just take off the restrictions talk to Yamaha guy service he might help you
@@engjellaliu85 in belgium we cant do that, its impossible to change the power on the registration card... So you Can remove the restrictor, but then your bike is illegal.
I'ts really dumb, Otherwise i would've kept mine.
@@antoineallard8788 I read about that kinda weird. So are the people who restrict their 100hp bikes to pay less tax in Belgium riding illegally then? It's strange because you do have the right license in your case.
I qualified on an SV650 so have very fond memories of the bike. Do we know if the new SV650s have maintained the quality and durability of the Gen 1s?
@@DannyBBom even better. Almost no plastic, all steel, good paint quality and even smoother engine and more power.
Older motorbikes obviously used better material, but now due to cost, very rare the manufacturer giving the same material quality.. But time changed.
I rode 700 Nighthawks back in the day. Winding out a middleweight 4 cylinder, like the current CBR650r is so much fooking fun! That bike was a pig tho, not flickable. I’d prolly now agree that a skinny light 700 twin would keep me in grins.
I know it's a great bike but don't like the headlight unfortunately
Well Peter, if there is one thing you can not see while enjoying the bike, than it is ....!
Yep, that headlight update ruins it for me. They all look like transformers movie props now. Off to triumph instead.
One of the funnest bikes I've ever ridden, probably shouldn't have sold my '16. Just fix the bouncy suspension and you'll be golden.
I love my 2018 MT07 however was planning to change this Summer, however when it’s summed up like this I’m no longer sure!!!
Try diablo 3 after angel gt wears out.
I currently own 2 Harleys and have a 2022 MT07 on preorder, both my HD's have 666 somewhere on them so when you said if you have a little devil in you I knew I made the right decision about preordering
Starboyz........blast from the past, they still a thing??!! Nice review, cheers for sharing 👍
I bought one
2017 with 2500 miles
$5000.
Best money I ever spent

The 790 in comparison is a little more 'serious' with all it's trick electronics and settings etc etc .. but, in my opinion, also more fun to ride :)
One thing I do miss from the MT though is the sound .. with a decat and decent end can on them they sound properly brutal .. very deep, sharp, loud and aggressive .... nicer sound than the 790 makes for sure ;)
How do the riding positions/comfort differ on the two bikes? Thanks.
Thank you!
If you’re riding motorcycles for the look of it, you shouldn’t be riding motorcycles.
I swapped my XSR 900 for a KTM Duke 690 R. Thought about the MT 07/XSR 700, but I haven’t looked back...150 kgs and 70 hp from the big thumper.
I might test ride the mt07 back to back with the KTM Duke 790.
Great review, enjoyed this segment
Future classic? There's nothing groundbreaking on this bike.
Thanks ! 👍
Great comparisons! Thx ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I preferred the v twin though, made me smile wider.
by by FJR to MT-07 @60 years old n still have Fun ridding poker runs work n back
Test rode one, hated it felt loose n cheap .
Hello MCN I am not sure if the basic model comes with a screen, heated grips, engine sliders etc. I guess these were added for the demo bike. Great review! Thank you.
They 100% don't in America. I got my 2021 MT07 5 weeks ago, none of that is there.
IamR3D88 Thank you for your reply. The Yamaha 2021 MT 07 looks a lovely bike, I am quite envious! Michael Neeves (Neevesy) of MCN is a really good bike reviewer IMO. Not sure why he mentioned the screen but I am only nit picking!

I say this as a VERY happy owner of a 2017 MT-07.
at the end of the day MT07 is proven, what do you know about tridents reliability?
Always the best bike reviews..hope to see the CP2 engine on a sports configuration..😁😁😁
A new yamaha R7 is confirmed in the way of registering emissions info in America for 2022 using the MT07 block!
Yep, I do think it's coming. YZF-R7.

are you in the fan club ?
I own a 2019. Rear and front suspension struggle on the (rather bumpy) roads of my country even in soft configuration. I guess, its propably a rought test for every brands. I did somes enhances , adjustable front suspension and set rear to soft and i fell more save (happy) on long ride, on hightway. Sometimes i thing of change it and go back to 4 cyl, 1000cc (YAM FZ01 like), but guess what ? I'am affraid to miss it or loose sort of fun factor on twisty roads.

Great video of a great ‘little’ bike. I noticed that the number plate ended FOC - Free of Charge?
The front forks can't be adjusted, but if you set the rear to the hardest settings it reduces the rocking fore and aft.
On Ebay, you can buy (around 50US) a set of cap to add compression on front spring's fork. Day and night.
@@marc-artwork thanks, good to know
Opinions please. How capable, or tolerable, would this bike be with 80-20 adventure tires on good condition gravel roads?
I can get either this or the MT 09. I am an experienced rider. Bottom line which is more fun? I can’t demo either here in the states.
@@sandersho4008 Thanks for the reply. I am very sensitive to throttle response. Would you buy the xsr700 with your own money?
@@dry509 I'm planning on picking up a new MT-07 as soon as my dealer gets it from Yamaha. Looks like that might be early May. If you've never ridden either, I would highly recommend trying to rent or test ride one way or another. Nice video... Let just say that in some areas the price of the latest version is few hundred more than the older version.. is it worth it to spend the extra dollar?

@@breezeontheroadtonowhere6562 that’s honestly a fix against all the crap on the roads ? I use helicopter tape on my mtb frame.
@@nickclarkuk sorry, I'm no native speaker. You have to fix only the rubber for the chain on the upper side of the swingarm. So it can't move.
Swap it out with the Alloy one from a Tracer 700.
I don't think so, as its the same from 2014.
It would actually look better if they did an RD colour scheme, battleship grey looks best on battleships.
Awesome video 👌
Intro beat an altered version off the new rippingtons cd?
And if you want a bit more styling, go for the XSR700.
Can you do a full review on the 2021 rsv4
Did you use rev match when downshifting on this bike?
@@switchback8746 Thanks.

Not a deal breaker just strange.
does anyone know what's the music plays in the beginning and in the end?
Whats up with those heated grips???
what is your helmet? It is so nice, i can't find it on arai website
For sure the type is something in between Arai RX7V or RX7X. But I guess the colour schemes are custom. It's his signature something like that.
The headlight looks much better than the fz09. How could they do that?
the kawasaki Z650 is better in my opinion after riding both back to back. It handles better, is more comfortable, looks better and is all around just more fun to ride for less money.
What about the tuono 660? Isn't aprilia competing in a similar ballpark?
£9700 for the tuono 660 vs £6,899 for the MT-07. I wouldn't say they are in the same ballpark.
