      Thank you ! I just started a program with my work insurance which told me to only eat 12 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs and I just did your calculator and it says 90 protein and 20 carbs. I was like 12 that can’t be right. So this explains this better.

    If you're fat, don't eat more fat. It's what general wisdom has been saying all along. Keto wants you to eat more fat to keep you satiated so you don't snack and eat too much. It's cutting out the carbs (eating less fruit, vegetables) that's the problem. I've been using more fat (butter) to eat less between meals and late evening, but I'm now not losing any more weight so I'm going to follow this now.

      The idea of more fat is just the first week to get fat adapted then cut back on fat and add more protein

    • @sidneybuckaloo
      @sidneybuckaloo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I wouldn’t say it doesn’t work. It’s worked for thousands of people. Adding more fat doesn’t always make you fat. Look at the stories of people who it helps. Just because one thing works for one person doesn’t mean that it works for another. High fat, moderate protein or high protein, moderate fat.

      And then there is me, and all those like me. 7 months very high fat (80/20) clean beefy carnivore. Lost 42 pounds and now healthy BMI for first time in 24 years! Maintaining weight is easy. Feel good mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Have healed numerous serious health issues, put autoimmune in remission, feel amazing. Well enough now to join the gym and start working on strength stability and flexibility.
      BOTH sides of this debate are right some of the times and in specific situations.
      I do not expect to be high fat forever.
      The only med I have left (!!!) Is the lowest dose of armour thyroid. Good fat is very helpful in restoring hormones and a host of other health issues.
      My health was always far more important than my weight. Carnivore lets you enjoy good health and a healthy weight.
      I am watching this because I am ready to cycle in some low fat high protein days when going to the gym.
      Eating keto/carnivore really should be viewed a spectrum, or even better to me...a toolbox.
      Because I haven't made one "professional" or influencer my "guru,” and I pay attention, and have a notebook filled with, ALL of the strategies others have had success with.
      None of these people are MY doctors, or yours. They do not know YOUR body/health issues, exactly what you are eating etc.
      Based on my experiments so far, I believe there is no ONE WAY to be keto/carnivore even for me! I am glad I am not stuck in a tiny restrictive way of eating.
      I am glad to have so many metabolic "shake up" strategies to keep my body in good health. I am glad I know that should I get a cancer diagnosis or show signs of dementia I will have myself in therapeutic ketosis PDQ.
      I have a health toolbox now, and I am grateful for the different "experts" sharing.

      @@Zach-Hey hi there. I am, not a carb addict, nor do I have “addictive behavior” in general. That helps. I have always been a volume eater, but I now think that is because as a “Whole Foods, plant based” eater my body was HUNGRY for nutrition and satiety. Carnivore has given me back my satiety signals. The only things I overeat now (Thanksgiving full type overeating) are my monthly air fryer chicken wings with carnivore blue cheese dressing treat, OR monthly carnivore pizza. Notice that BOTH of things I am prone to overeat on are facsimiles of unhealthy “normal” craving foods we all enjoy. Once I realized I was doing this, I started portioning instead of just cooking a ton of wings or pizza so I would have leftovers.

    The high fat thing never really made sense to me. I was recently in a ketovore/carnivore FB group that was always tell people to eat like 80-90% fat, to the point where they were starting to sound cultish. They also completely ignored the laws of thermodynamics and TDEE rule. So many post about how a someone had been on the diet for years with no WL and they were told to eat more fat and not track intake. This is something I have see not just in that group but in the keto/ketovore/carnivore crowd in general, and it really is a disservice to people who have really struggling to drop body fat.

      Sometimes I will use my own notebook or whiteboard to take notes as I'm listening~ either written words or visual cues, such as the 'bubble chart' method learned in essay writing or even simple graphics. Everyone learns differently, & translating the information being offered is often of personal benefit. We might consider that not everyone is comfortable or adept at teaching in the same ways we might prefer to learn, which is when it's helpful for the learner to adapt the opportunity. =)

      After being carnivore for 6 months after a diagnosis of insulin resistant, I get it! (I think). Im 74 years old female. I’m also now 105 pounds. Lost 20 pounds. Went zero carb. Med protein. Med fat. No calorie counting. After using your macro formula, I was very close to recommended numbers. That was a fluke cause I simply couldn’t eat the amt of protein and fat that carnivore demanded so I cut them back drastically. Now I will keep to the protein grams of the calculator, not go over the fat grams, stay no more than 20 carbs in the form of veg/salad not grain/junk, and do more exercise. My hair was thinning and falling b4 I ever went carnivore but now it’s worse. I will take electrolytes hoping low sodium was the problem. Am I on the right track? 🤞
      And hardest cut back on my 2 cups of coffee.
      Excellent presentation. Very clear. Easy to understand now. ❤

I have such a hard time losing and now I understand the main reason why. My sister is around 340 lbs (3 years older than I) and her Glucose stays around 85. I haven’t understood how this can be when she is around 100 lbs more than I. She is so resistant to weight loss, as well. She gets so discouraged as to what to do to lose the weight. Everybody has a different body so the same plan doesn't work for everybody. One obvious thing is that it is not sustainable to go in extended fasts as the main way to lose weight because you are going to gain it all back when you start to eat again. It's better to follow a program that would be sustainable on the long term. Since fasts seem to work for you, try maintaining just a narrow eating window daily, no more than 6 hours. Then make a conscious effort to do at least 10000 steps a day. Also add strength training, particularly during your PSMF days. You can start with something as simple as using an exercise bike that has resistance bands so you have to make more of an effort to pedal and are building muscle mass. You can also follow videos in which exercises are done with resistance bands. You don't need to work out like a maniac because you don't want to injure yourself

    I am new to this Keto lifestyle. Fifteen years ago I learned of the ketogenic diet as my son who was 11 at the time started having seizures. I considered the diet for him but ended up going with medications to control his seizures. I have realized that I am insulinate resistant and have realized my need to go on a strict healthy ketogenic diet. Brilliant Video, guys.!!! This explanation is the most comprehensive, compelling + logical that I have ever listened to regarding FAT LOSS.! I've been adding 4x tablespoons of Beef Tallow to my daily Beef meals + wondering why I haven't been losing weight.! I basically was led to believe, by numerous "online experts" that the more "good" fats I eat the better for weight loss.! I'm gonna incorporate your recommendations immediately, at my very next meal.!!! So, I'm gonna drop that Beef Tallow straight back down to 1x tbsp a day + see how that goes. Thanks so much, guys.! 🙂

    There's a doc who uses keto to help her patients heal. She tells people (on youtube) to have very little protein and more fat with no carbs to fix insulin resistance. She also promotoes fasting multiple times a week. She does three day fasts. She will pump up the fat just chasing ketones to get higher numbers. But then she did a video that she didn't lose fat. Her bone density improved a bit, but over a year she did not lose any fat. And this is with fasting 3 days a week. I just shook my head thinking she just got proof her plan is not working. Need protein. Need to not pump in fat to get higher ketones. She has some formula she came up with that she thinks means you are in autophagy which means you need lower blood glucose and higher ketones to get those magical numbers. But if you eat all that fat to raise ketones, then you are pumping up the numbers artifically. And you never lose weight, which she hadn't lost fat over a year of this insane behavior.

    "May have to watch it again..." I watched it three times and still only understood about 1/3 of what he said. I am so confused. I started Carnivore because my Dr put me on very low oxalates. ( And she was right. I don't seem to be able to digest oxalates. I just thought I had Candida. ) Until then I had no idea what an oxalate was. But I also have hypothyroid, low adrenals, fibromyalgia and hashimotos but have histamine reactions to the meds so I stopped taking them and was trying to heal on my own with Carnivore/High Fat. But I have put on so much weight with Hashimoto and Carnivore doesn't let me lose the unhealthy weight. I would like to do the protein fast you recommend but just one hamburger patty has 38 grams of fat so it seems I would have to starve to follow it. So confusing.

I gut was so bad when I started that my doctor mentioned disability. No way without trying everything first. After 10 years, I started having high fasting glucose readings and gaining weight. After a year of this and tweaking and tweaking with no success, and feeling low energy, I reintroduced some carbs. I believe you are correct and from personal experience. I spent 20 years on my feet lifting and moving all night drinking coke, pretzels, or cookies at night. Now that I quit several years ago to raise my kids, I got diabetes. I didn't have a trace of that before except just being fat no matter how much I moved. You can do so much with fasting especially if you have diabetes, is an uphill battle. I know that if I could go back to the gym, my body would be using any lingering glucose on keto. You are also correct on that a fatty pancreas, a fatty liver are the true cause of diabetes. That's why in Germany they put diabetes on 4 non fatty shakes a day and within one month, they show no signs of diabetes but those of us following keto/carnivore takes soo long to get there.

    An excellent presentation which has helped me so much. I tried keto a few years ago and followed people suggesting bullet proof coffee, fat bombs, egg fast and extended fasting. I stuck to it for two months and never lost an inch… no wonder 😜 I’m back again on my doctors orders ( type twice diabetic) and listening to as many of your videos as I can. Thank you 🙏

    I thought when you are fasting and get into autophagy stage your body runs on fat and recycles damaged proteins to build new muscle. That's why autophagy is so healthy and people who do this don't end up with lots of lose skin. Skin and connective tissue is what the body uses for protein and gluconeogenesis it needs.

    • @craigemmerich
      @craigemmerich 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Autophagy isn't a 100% efficient process. You need new amino acids to run autophagy.
      Skin and connective tissue is too valuable. Muscle is much easier to lose some without a negative effect. Same with organs (which the skin is your largest organ). You turn over so much skin every day due to shedding that the body always has to make new and having skin is more important than some muscle. And the claims of "people don't end up with lots of loose skin" has never been prevent or demonstrated.

    Well, this makes so much sense. I made a change into high fat carnivore. I felt sick most of the day, I had no appetite but still stuffed the fat in, while I craved protein... and in a couple of days I noticed my skin becoming worse.. getting acne again all over my body and face. And i thought this can't be happening, I'm lowering my insulin with high fat??! I guess I overstuffed my bloodstream and fatcells with saturated fat. While it did seem like I lost some weight I think it was mostly just water from zero carbs

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Minimum fat required is 30-40 grams. If you are trying to lose you want to burn your body fat not the dietary fat you eat. Protein is your only macro goal. :)

      Me too, nauseous with too much fat, but the others just said you’re not fat adapted yet if you feel sick. Try different fats and keep piling it in 🤢I like Maria and Craig’s approach much better 😊

    I still have fat around the middle. Been keto for 5 years, why are my Tri's still high at 112. I don't ever eat sugar. Keep carbs at 15. Eat mostly meat, a few good veggies, good fats. Fast for at least 20 hours. Don't get hungry between meals. Very slow loser! I'm 72, been heavy since 9 yo. I've lost 35 pounds in 5+ years. I listened 2 times, great video. I have too eat enough fat because if I don’t I will be constipated. Carnivore for almost 4 months. I eat 2 times a away 1 pound of ground and 12 eggs. I have not lose weight yet. I have 20 pounds to loose. I have fasted most of my 50 years of life. I believe my body is healing now. What advice you have for me?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  ปีที่แล้ว

      You aren't losing weight because you are adding too much fat. First, get your macros right (be sure to read the notes at the top of the calculator) mariamindbodyhealth.com/calculator/
      Next, your colon doesn't need fat to go poo. It needs sodium. Electrolytes are non-negotiable on a low carb diet: mariamindbodyhealth.com/how-to-balance-electrolytes/

    • @harriscarol513
      @harriscarol513 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooohhh good to know about electrolytes and BMs! I wish there was an easy electrolyte something to take that doesn’t taste like salt water. I tried LMNT, which did taste good, but my body held onto so much water with it. I gained 2 pounds every day I took it and my body swelled up so much I couldnt bend my fingers or knees! Is there a pill or some other suggestion? I take ozonated magnesium at night now and also have magnesium glycinate (but I’m not consistent with that) but I don’t do anything else. How do we know if it’s salt, magnesium or potassium we need?

    Thank you. This is so helpful. I'm insulin resistant . Keto alone I dropped weight but lost a lot of muscle. My skin is so saggy it doesn't look good. Since started PSMF I think it's helping. I do light weights to help build my muscle back up.

    I needed this information so much! Perfect timing, was ready to give up on everything but this is exactly what was happening to my blood sugar when I decided to go Carnivore because Keto wasn't helping me to lose weight although I had some good benefits with mood and skin etc. It scared me to see my blood sugar go up even though I was starting to see changes with my body composition. This was the best explanation I've heard in the past over two years since starting this journey! Thank you!

      Just make sure you hit your protein goal in your meals. This is also why we don't recommend OMAD (one meal a day) for most women. They can't get enough protein in one meal.
