    You could put a prime George Best into a team now, against any of the best players, in 2020. And he would still do the business. Unreal talent.

    What an experience it would be to hear an entire stadium erupt in a deafening cheer for one's efforts. Most will never know it. Best heard it many times.

    An unbelievable talent, never seen since, as he said with humour as well as that special gift, what a lovely man, RIP George...

    The best by far, lived fast but like so many geniuses flew too close to the sun, he wouldn't have had it any other way, greatest footballer these isles have seen. Putting club allegiances to one side he was awesome

    Having the ability to just run with the ball on most of those pitches looks hard enough to me. He had a gift. This man 'played like a kid' on the pitch and was a true gentleman off it.

    If I had his talent and it was a cold rainy day and I had a miss world with me or any nice Looking woman and loads of money and drink in a nice hotel and was nice and snug .I would of missed training like him,and I'm sure I would have ended up dead along time before him .
    I would have loved everyone telling me how great I was and women falling all over me .He was the first superstar football popstar like celebrity.
    I def would have followed in his footsteps and been brought down by drink and also my gambling addiction
    He had a great talent and was easily led ,and destroyed himself just like lots more including myself

    TO ME FOR 3 YEARS HE WAS BRILLIANT AND after that he was nothing like .
    but then he was followed where ever he went so who knows what thats like. it must be hell .
    Take beckhams they want it all the time , and cannot handle if they are not in the spotlight and he had only a fraction of the talent of A PEAK GB

    It's fantastic to watch the joy, the happiness, the fun of the play, and the players! Today most of the guys are overpayed primadonnas. Best had it all. But that was - unfortunatly - also all he had...

      yeah back in the 60's lol it's 2017. George was amazing for that era. George wouldnt make it in this era and I'm not saying he didnt have the talent, he lacks the professionalism to make it in this era. Look at Balloteli, talented but not a professional. Look at Ronaldinho, ridiculous talented. his partying cut his grip short. Truth is Best loved the drink more than the ball. Good enough against what would be today pub players not even good enough to get to a B squad. He would suffer against today's faster athletes who arent even allowed to take a puff. Now if you say if we put his talent on an athlete of today's game then that's a whole different discussion. But when we talk about the man we have to talk about the whole of the man.

      Mark Beale & Bobby Charlton, who played against Pele, & alongside Best, said that nobody ever came close to Duncan Edwards. So THAT Mark is more than enough for me

    what i wouldn't do to have his talent and gifted genius for one year!!!! the soccerball was his paintbrush and the soccer field his canvas. out of all the soccer players in history i watch his videos and documentaries the most. what was so amazing was that he didn't wear shin pads, the cleats were krapp, the soccer fields were horrible, the soccer ball was heavy and lethal and the lack of referee protection. he got the shit kicked out of him. I'm surprised his career even lasted for 10 years. his dribbling was godly and he hardly ever fell down. he rode tackles like a surfer. just brilliant!!!!

      Brilliant comments Robert and all true. He was a cavalier and a dancer. When I was young - many years ago - hearing his name said was enough to make you dream of the glamour of being a gifted footballer. He name still makes me dream.

    • @steaks652
      @steaks652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert, very very very well put. Why I always say the likes of Maradona. , Messi, Ronaldo do not live in George's class, his bravery would put them all to shame. Sheer natural, no pre planned tricks, just body swerves and swaying left mad defender's embarrassed.

  • @michaelhampton9493

    Thanks Kid Lightning ,George was the best player that i ever saw. A naturally gifted player. Ronaldo and Messi do not even come close.

    • @KARASCOUSIN
      @KARASCOUSIN 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      oh stop. No Football pundit would even dare say such a ridiculous thing. George Best was great for his time, but he mostly played against people that wouldnt even make it on B teams in todays football. Ronaldo and specially Messi would run rampant on a 60's team who were made of people who had some talent but were not professional athletes by any stretch of the imagination. Guys smoking on the bench and playing drunk against todays players ?.... come on now..

    • @davidbrooks187
      @davidbrooks187 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      His balance was incredible & he played against very physical & brutal defenders on terrible pitches, Ronaldo & Messi would have both collapsed if chopper Harris had tackled them half as brutally as he did to Best, watch the magnificent goal he scored against Chelsea literally running the ball into the net after receiving & riding a potentially career ending tackle from Harris on a mud bath of a pitch. Today's players get so much protection from referees its unbelievable & defenders stand off & wont engage in fear of even nudging them.
      To quote Pele "Best is the greatest player in the world".

    • @eddiepower3876
      @eddiepower3876 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah but defenders those days had beer bellies and smoked today's defenders are so fit George would be an average Scottish league player in today's terms

      I am sorry that you share my christian name James.George Best was the greatest player that ever lived and could not be equaled.If you think you know football then watch him play the game.He and Bobby Charlton never really saw eye to eye but I will wager that the great Charlton would say that George was the greatest player he ever saw never mind played with.In fact I think he has said that.I am from the Liverpool area by the way and we know our footy.Jim Liverpool.

    Without doubt the greatest of all.Because he was naturally gifted from birth.I love Ronaldo too by the way and all the rest of the greats but George was just that extra bit special.The likes of him do not pass by very often if at all in our lives so take them on board if you are lucky enough and just enjoy it if you are as lucky as I was to get that chance.Jim.Liverpool.

    The thing is, that 'all go wrong' question, so horribly mocked by a clearly drunk sounding Best at the start, WAS a fair one and George deep down knew it - he so loved football, and without booze ruining him he'd have had all the money and women he wanted PLUS his beloved game.

      It was just another player who set out to cripple Besty.They all did but were just not skilled or fast enough.He played in a nasty era of football when it was the done thing to try to break an opponents leg but George was far too slick for them and made them look stupid.Some of them are still alive today and would admit that they were in the presence of a genius.Jim.Liverpool.
