    Step 22 is a class act. Any company willing to provide that much technical training in an easy to understand way is a Class Act in my book!!! Great Vid!!!

    I was a Navy diver for 20 years, I had a lot to do with rigging, heavy lift, and synthetic rope operations. Gear 22 has just given the best Laymans explanation for how to safely use heavy lift lines kinetic and otherwise. I met those guys at the north west Overland rally last year and they were awesome to work with they have a lot of patience and you can tell they really love what they’re doing. Awesome video

    I think this “overlanding” thing is starting to get a little more like a car show at the camp ground other than what I believe what it was intended to be IMHO

    • @trailspinTV
      @trailspinTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that's what this "Expo" thing is. Literally a place to show off and sell gear and vehicles. I don't know about you, but where I go "overlanding" I don't see people showing off their garbage and trinkets. This hobby is what you make of it.

      @@trailspinTV yet alone, I don't see the Australians, South Americans and pretty much anywhere else in the world where 4x4 and "overlanding" has been happening for many decades doing car shows like this, many cities you have rigs and coffee which again are car show but instead of civics and mustangs you have Tacoma's and Jeep's

    The terminology used to be working load, not work load, limit. Not sure when this got changed or by whom. Guess it’s all part of using nouns as adjectives.

    Great informative video. I thought Australian products would be a little cheaper. Being that the conversion of the dollars are way off. If an Australian retail sells a product for $950AUD, then sells the same product for 950USD. They're making 30% more selling the same product in US. Despite the fact that they make $85k a year on average, compared to $45k a year on average in the US. I'll give my money to Warn, especially for the same price.

    • @yayinternets

      I don't think it's quite that simple. It costs money to ship things here, deal with customs, any sort of tariffs/taxes, etc.

    "Plasma rope is UHMPE".
    Wut

    • @lwrwhites
      @lwrwhites 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also known as high-modulus polyethylene, (HMPE), it has extremely long chains, with a molecular mass usually between 3.5 and 7.5 million amu. The longer chain serves to transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone by strengthening intermolecular interactions. This results in a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made.

      Dive deep into bow string materials. That industry has been using the latest fiber technologies for years.. HMPE, UHMPE, Dyneema, ect...

    • @step22gear
      @step22gear 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old thread... but I just saw this and wanted to clarify a little for you. "Plasma Rope" is a product name given to this rope by its manufacturer. The company that makes it has exclusive rights to a process where they take the raw material UHMPE and process it using a recrystallization process (fancy way to say heat and stretch to make it stronger). Since they have a special version of UHMPE they gave it a fancy name. As another example, just imagine if you took the same cotton normally used to make t-shirts and found a way to put it through a special process that made it last for unlimited wash cycles. You might not want to say you just make shirts from "cotton" so you might make up a name like "EverWash" or something catchy. Your materials would be made from cotton, but your version of that cotton would be known as EverWash. You will see a number of different names created by various companies, Amsteel, Dyneema, etc. It is always important to look for the actual raw material to know what the product is actually made from. As always, let me know if you have any questions! -Adam

    Steel shackle $12, plasma shackle $90. We encourage people not to shop based on price. LOL

    • @trailspinTV
      @trailspinTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plasma is stronger than the steel shackle. Steel shackles are heavy, and sometimes break which turns them into a pretty dangerous projectile. Is it 7 times better to justify the price? I don't know. But, what I think he meant by "don't shop based on price" is don't base your entire decision on price alone. He said a couple times to give him a call and he'll talk about gear even if you're not going to buy their stuff.

    • @janesmith4017
      @janesmith4017 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@trailspinTV it just tickled me when he said that. I wasn't trying to cause a fuss when I commented. Your reply begs some questions though. You keep saying steel shackles are heavy but the weight of the steel shackles in my tool box has never been a concern for me. I'm not an ultralight camper. I have also never seen a steel shackle become a projectile. During vehicle recoveries, I've seen sharp edges cut rope under tension though. I have seen severe injuries caused by whiplashing tow lines.

    • @TxJK18
      @TxJK18 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trailspinTV while steel shackles break it is not a common thing to happen. I could happen if you buy cheap ones that are not rated. Yes synthetic shackles are the new thing they are not good for all situations.
