    • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath
      @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but don’t assume because somethings expensive it’s well-designed because most of this stuff is either ugly too heavy or not nearly as versatile and functional as it could be if designed bye someone like an architect or even an architectural graduate. Engineers you have to be wary of because one there’s 1000 different kinds of engineers and most of them did not have to be licensed to go by the title and do you really want a so-called mechanical engineer designing everything? And nobody knows everything when it comes to engineering and mechanical engineers do not design the structure in buildings so why are they suddenly an expert for the structure in a van? There’s this thing called a structural engineer or a civil engineer or an architect. But the mechanical engineer design little things with moving parts. Let the electrical engineer design your power system.

    The price? Sub $200k...... It sounds expensive, but,......... Hey..... These rigs are getting a little out of hand. Michael at Overland Bound rides a 25 year old Toyota, with 200,000 miles and just blew his engine. The KING of mobile life, Bob Wells, lives in a cargo van, high top, with the interior, by Home Depot, slapped together in the desert. You ALWAYS see him in some remote off road location. And he only has 2wd. I watch all of your videos, they are good. This isn't about you, it's about these vans. If there is a market for them and people buy them, more power to buyer and seller alike. It's good for the economy. But you can get into this and have A LOT of fun for very little money. Don't let anybody watching this feel limited because they can't afford own of these types of rigs. besides, who in his right mind is going to put one of these to task, with a $200,00 loan you are still paying off???? Buy an older vehicle, prep it right, and USE it for what it was intended. Hope to see you a Overland Expo East in October. Better time of year, better venue, should be great. I am looking forward to it.

    Tours of custom van companies that only put out 20 to 100 vans per year are purely for entertainment. Now it we’re dealing with Covid these companies have 1 to 2 year waiting lists even if you have that kind of money. Your efforts would’ve been better spent looking around for easy to install modular systems that’s basically right now most people unless you wanna wait 1 to 2 years you’re gonna have to do some degree of DIY or hire someone like a cabinetmaker to help with a modular install. Next time look around in the camping area for upstart companies with modular systems. I’ve noticed some of the larger companies are eating up way too much space at Overland expo and I have to wonder if they aren’t using some of the huge profits they 8are making these days to try to keep new companies out of the market by monopolizing space at Overland Expo just because they can. I mean if you’ve already got a two-year backlog why would you need to take four vans to Overland Expo to get more business? These vans all look pretty similar so you’re not gonna see much creativity coming out From companies they’re making millions of dollars I don’t need to be creative. Look for companies that are new. One guy said he thinks outside the box. Then didn’t bother to give even one example of what he thought he did that was thinking outside the box. Somebody that comes from a motorcoach background and worked there for that long is not going to think outside the box. If he thought outside the box he would’ve been frustrated with his job at a motorcoach co. a long time ago. Steve Jobs didn’t work at IBM for 20 years before starting Apple computer

    BS. I don’t think Owl vans invented the feature that enables their Sherpa to pivot with the complex door hinges. I bought a similar thing for my Jeep Wrangler aftermarket spare tire and Rotopax gas can holder made by Smittybilt back in July 2016 and who knows how long it had been available. They shoot from the hip when talking about their products and do some of their deceptive publicity stunts. As for the Sprinter coming with holes in the hinge, the 270 degree hinges do not, so Owl Vans requires you to buy and switch to the 180 degree hinges at hundreds of $ of extra expense

  • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath

    All these companies like to badmouth LP because they want to sell you $30,000 worth of electrical equipment and labor or more. 10 pounds of LP lasts forever. What if it’s cloudy. You will run out of solar power. If you run your engine to charge your batteries you will run out of diesel/gas. There’s a reason why 45 years after solar panels came on the market there is still a tax subsidy to get people to install them. There has never been a tax subsidy for LP installation. A standard sized 20-pound propane cylinder holds approximately 430,000 BTUs of liquid propane. Each gallon of propane contains 91,502 BTUs of potential heat and each pound contains approximately 21,548 BTUs. Ask a solar dealer how many BTUs each panel produces. Well that’s kind of depends on what latitude you are at, what day of the year it is, how cloudy it is, whether you have electronic tracking system that keeps the panel pointed directly at the sun throughout the day, how much battery storage you have available at the time, etc. In Berkeley California it’s now illegal to put natural gas in a new home so if you have LP in your van do you have something multi millionaires can’t put in their home in parts of California. It’s always funny to see van tours where the owner says they’re really into cooking but at most they have a two burner induction cooktop in their van. If you go to their house they probably have a five burner, gas, cooktop
