@@derrickrobinson7269 From an overhook I usually do an uchi into a front headlock. From an underhook, my uchi is more a half hatch if I can catch the head or an ogoshi if they step
It is! It’s called catch wrestling but too many people got hurt so they turned it into folk style wrestling. It was pretty much just jujitsu with pins so there was no guard.
I too really like the overhook. And I do uchimata from the overhook too. But if it fails I just go to a front healock as the guy steps around the failed uchimata. Very simple and easy to do.
I was so confused when his technique was so reminiscent of the Caucus styles. When he started to talk about having moved there everything started to make sense.
me before watching this video: yah I've got pretty good wrestling" me after watching this video: " my wrestling is non-existent i have no idea what im doing"
These are the fundamentals that aren’t discussed enough I wrestle in high school and often we learn various things like moves but these fundamentals of movement and control are what you need imo
All I see is Judo: Kibusu gaeshi. Osoto gake. Ouchi gake. Te Guruma. Also, that Ouchi gake at 12:08 (hooking the ankle around the uke's shin) is quite dangerous and risky for both the tori and uke because it puts a lot of stress on the knees when falling.
Ever since George's St Pierre, I've had a fascination with Wrestling and Boxing. I feel they're the absolute foundation to all grappling and all striking respectively. If someone has superior wrestling and boxing, they only need to know some defense to dominate.
@@whitecraneboxing oh yeah of course. But, after his respective losses to Matt Hughes and then Matt Serra at those different points in his career he doubled down on Wrestling and Boxing respectively and his ability to fuse them together is second to none. Now, there are a few karatekas in MMA better than GSP in Karate. But nobody has that Boxing-Wrestling Connection like Rush.
@Tyler Scott just because he jabbed koscheck to death, doesn't mean he's a boxer bro lol he'd well rounded. His wrestling is great because of his strength and anatomy. Wide shoulders help with takedown
I agree it was great although i dont agree on his asessment of jiu jitsu cardio vs wreslting cardio, you use different muscles and wrestling is more anerobic with more high intensity burst and scrambling, and depending on your ground style they can be drasticaly different in terms of anerobic and aerobic output or they are with most athletes maybe someone like nicky rod and jay rod are different cause they are always balls to the wall all the time.
I always liked pushing the head away with my free hand while working the overbook single leg defense. Alot of time you can get an easy over hook hip toss when you stop pushing on the head and they come right back into you. The leg they have a hold of for the single becomes the "hip" of the throw.
Ever see Kyle Dake or Jordan Burroughs do a scissor takedown? That stuff's for comic books. More likely than not, you'll just be on the ground while the other guy is still standing, able to put some distance between you and kick you in the legs or head.
The pressure being applied to the other leg can maybe stop a scissor takedown. Notice how the instructor has that single leg tight and is already applying downward pressure.
Nicky Rod I hate to disappoint you mate but the name Olympic Games does not derive from Mount Olympus but from Ancient Olympia, a region in the west part of Greece where the first Olympic Games were held. Good try though!
And the funny thing is that ancient Greek wrestling was called Pale and it DID have submission. Greco Roman wrestling is actually FRENCH wrestling. Greco Roman wrestling was done in FAIRS( CARNIVAL). Jean Exbrayat performed his flat hand wrestling at FAIRS/CARNIVAL.
Get Joe hendrey. Not only a pro wrestler but also a judoka, Greco Roman & freestyle wrestler, and MOST LIKELY a legit catch wrestler( trained by Marty Jones and Johnny Saint. Both students of billy Robinson a pro wrestler and LEGIT catch wrestler). And he also train in bjj. Since he ALSO wanted to do MMA someday.
The problem with wrestlers teaching Jiu-jitsu is that they're unaware of submissions. For example, holding a single leg by shelving the knee like described in this video makes you incredibly vulnerable to Kani Basami and getting your knee blown out. But, to each their own 🤷
@@gmartins it's absolutely always important to practice technique with safety in mind. Shelving a single leg in this way makes it dangerous because the shelving leg is susceptible to Kani Basami. If you want a stomach ache, I recommend one Google injuries associated with it.
I wonder if a guy like this gets pissed when he instructs and sees everyone sitting on the mat? At my BJJ school, we have a coach who was a collegiate wrestler and he makes us all stand because that's how they did it in the wrestling rooms.
Good to see y'all finally doing this. BJJ competitions are getting really boring, even with the best of you. Basically, if you don't know takedowns, you're a BJJ scrap. Grappling starts on the feet, and if you're up against somebody with decent takedown defense who's throwing 90-mph kicks at your head and you can't take him to the ground, you're just a punching bag. Similarly, pull guard against that guy. You're getting kicked or beat with a bat while you scoot around the ground like a dog with worms.
Where's Craig Jones? In a month he's going against pena. I hope he's learning this stuff and more. I know he would be at a camp and couldn't show anything. But still.

1:01 whats stopping someone from doing a scissor takedown? Other than certain rulesets of course.
second technique as well.
Nothing, you just have to be ready. It's the same if you got a body lock and are on their side, just be careful.
There's counters to every move, just be aware.
