    Trung Thanh Sago just passed away on July 18th, 2021, and I’m rewatching this in his memory. Thanks for this compelling documentary and for capturing some of the best memories of a generation. May him RIP.

    I lived in Hanoi and all I ever heard was EDM and traditional music. Cool to see metal lives on in Saigon.

    I only got 3/4 of the way through before I had to go to bed, but I promise to watch the rest tomorrow. Such a painfully sad story about the many musicians suppressed by their government or local community. But endearing when you see that in the face of adversity, these guys keep grinding it. Like they said "It's their spirit", and that's what us metal heads in the US have been blessed with since the late 1960's. We have a lot to be thankful for here & my hat's off to them in Vietnam. Keep that spirit & maybe we'll all meet some day at a Heavy Metal Woodstock somewhere in the world.

    this was so well made and deserved much more attention than it's received.
    thank you for making this and helping to keep the memories alive even though many of the past have long moved on.

    Glad that this doc happened
    Mainstream music in vn covers 4-5 genres and that’s it, anything apart from those is quite marginal and can be considered underground, even if it not too controversial like jazz or funk. I wish some of the bored modern youth will break out of the unimaginative prison of pop and cheesy ballads

    • @IrregularFilm
      @IrregularFilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is tough out there for musicians in VN that don't stick to the pop/EDM realm. Realistically there's no way to earn an income, so the turnover of bands/musicians is very high & hard to build something that lasts.

    This was a very interesting watch. I come from a state where vietnamese culture is one of the most common foreign cultures so it's cool seeing my favorite genres scene over there

    Great documentary of Vietnam Rock/Heavy/Etc Metal. I hope someday, sooner, that they can play openly and will get credit for what they did in Vietnam Music.

      Suicide
      It was a damn shame really, he was our bassist in a crust punk band we formed together. The music he wrote still amazed me by this day by how complex and knowledgable he is about extreme music/punk
