    Used this kit on my m113 engine that belongs to my 2003 Ml500 , fixed all 20 head bolt holes in the block , got everything torqued down too & it handled it ! . I just couldn’t used the alignment plate . But I didn’t need it anyways . I have steady hands . It was much more expensive then other options like Heli-coils but I wanted a solid insert . Total cost $730 after taxes
    $645 for the kit
    $85 20 extra inserts because planned to sell the complete USED kit on eBay for $500 or so to help someone else . I have a video on my channel

      Same, I felt more comfortable with these inserts vs helicoil. We just sold it the other day. Did the repair a few years ago and no issues at all.

    Nice video! One question, for what I can see you are drilling the holes about 1-1/4 deeper...?

      Honestly that was 2 years ago and I don’t remember. I’d have to go back in and watch it. But I doubt I drilled that deep into the block past the factory hole. The idea is to drill and open the hole larger to screw in the insert with the same thread size so you can torque the bolts in the new steel insert that is red locktighted in.

      Thank you. I try to keep some detail but not so long to loose people interest

    If the steel bolts pulled out the threads, why wont the steel inserts pull out the threads. Its the same problem. Why not make threads in the block with the existing holes and then buy head bolts to that size and use all the threads of the new bigger size bolts?

      You’re drilling out the old threads, cutting in new threads and inserting a steel insert with red lock tight, if you just try and drill and tap a larger thread where are you going to find head bolts that will work? That are the same length and will fil through the cylinder head opening? Now you’re trying to find custom parts. This was the authorized repair Toyota and Honda recommend when bolts strip out over time.

      @@ShopDogFabrication correct. Im aware of that. My thought was maybe the bigger bolts would fit thru the holes in the head, if not, drill those holes just enough for the bolts to fit thru. Head bolts come in all lengths and thread. Drill bit the size of the existing holes, drill the old threads smooth, then tap those holes from the top of the block all the way down till it bottoms. Then the new bigger bolts will grab 4+ inches of new threads.
      Ive done 4 of these and i still cant understand why wouldnt the inserts pull out the threads like the bolts did.

    How are is it to remove the head and disconnect all the electrical before you get to that point

      If your mechanically inclined it’s not to bad, getting the intake off is probably the hardest about taking it all apart. Making sure you find all the fasteners and not trying to take something apart because you missed one and break something.

    Hi. I would like to know how’s the engine working now? Any issues with the inserts?

    Did you have to resurface the cylinder head or send out to a machine shop to get it done over?

    • @ShopDogFabrication
      @ShopDogFabrication  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I cleaned it throughly and put it back on. My daughter has been driving it since the repair an no issues.

    What kind of drill is that

    • @ShopDogFabrication
      @ShopDogFabrication  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started with a 20v cordless drill and then switched to a 1/2 hp corded drill if my memory is correct. It’s a craftsman 1/2 drill. I didn’t rewatch the video but I’m pretty sure that’s what I used.

      I have one on the end of engine block that is getting kind of stripped due to previous owner putting a bigger bolt but i bolted the original one and the most that i could torque it was 15-20ftpds is that good enough for being the very end hole and also why is it not good to applying an insert.

    • @ls2cateye987
      @ls2cateye987 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the other 9 were torqued perfectly to 45-65 ftpds
