Thank you so much after going through tons of videos.I finally find you.A video and yours was the most helpful.Thank you again. My garage door works correctly now because of you
My chain came off and after putting it back on and tightening it up my limits were way off. This video explained everything so perfect I was able to correct everything and it saved me a $$$ service call. Thans so much!
Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it and it makes me happy to hear you were able to get your motor repaired while saving you tons of $$$$$. Feel free to reach out if you have any future issues with the motor. Thank you 🙏
THANK YOU!!!!!! Finally a video that clearly explains exactly what to do! I just got this door opener and was about to smash it!! Hahaha. I've been searching for days for a video for dummies like me and finally stumbled on your video. Thank you again for this foolproof explanation !!
I recently moved into an older home with this garage door opener and could not find instructions on how to do this. My garage door was slamming hard. Thanks for posting!
Great video. So easy to adjust the limits. I had gone a year with just opening it and stopping it in the closed position. Crazy... thanks for this video and making it so easy.
Thank you so much for the clear instructions on how to set these limits. I’ve been messing with this thing for about 4 years. One thing, if running it past it’s limits was going to wreck it I’d have wrecked mine several times 😊. Thanks again
Great video. One thing I am having trouble with is the transition from the door opening to closing. I have set the limit for where the door should open to, but the unit doesn’t switch to closing the garage door. I can increase the limit on the opener more and more and when ever I hit the button (wall mount or limit set button) the door opens. When it hits the limit I set it stops. But then again it won’t close after that. It just hits that limit to open and that’s it. Again I can increase the opening limit rinse repeat same result. I can send a video too.
Excellent .... thank you! I have the same model. For some reason out of the blue, my garage door (sometimes), only goes up part way and stops. When it's stopping, I can help it go up all the way with a slight push from the bottom. I'm thinking it must have something to do with the force setting adjustment but not sure why it'd start doing this at random.
Thanks the the great explanation. When I press the down button my door immediately stops and jumps back. I tried to push and hold the limit button but the door will only go a few feet before it come back. Any thoughts?
If its reversing while you attempt to set the limits then that means it could be one of the following : * the springs on the door are too strong causing the motor to struggle to close it… a way to check if this is the problem is to release the door from the trolley ( pull the emergency cord) and try closing the door manually. If it closes fine without resistance then that’s not the problem. If you trouble pulling the door down bc it’s trying to go back open, then the springs are in fact too strong and this will cause it to reverse. If not this then , * Check the “close force” setting on the back of the motor near the limit button. Turn the force setting clockwise to ensure it’s turned all the way up ⬆️ if it’s already turned up then that’s not the problem. * You may have a bad rpm sensor. Those are easy fixes with the swap of a part but could also be a faulty logic board or known as mother board. Both of these parts are plug n play. * Next check your sensors and ensure both are lit up and properly aligned facing each other. Make sure nothing is blocking them. When a sensor gets obstructed or off alignment, the door will reverse as a safety feature. This happens so it doesn’t crush a car, child, pet , item , etc. * Lastly you may have a bad gear ⚙️. Not all models have this function but press the motor button one time and when it reverses or fails, you should see a light on the back of the motor where the limits are…. The light should flash a number of times. Count it and depending on how many times it flashes , it’s a error code. Google to model and error code flashes. It will tell you what component has failed and that should lead you to one of the areas I listed. Hope that helps and I really appreciate you reaching out. Thank you for watching and give me a status update if you find out. Thanks 🙏
I was tinkering with mine just now. It was not off the plastic clip. I closed door and it started bouncing up after my adjustments, lol. Turned it all the way to the end of the closed position, like yours at end, and now it seems to be properly adjusted... I was really trying to tighten the chain, which you do at the other end. But I guess I found out about adjusting door as well.
Follow the steps in the video to close it. Once you do , you can adjust the settings on the back of the unit to program the close limit as I show in the video. Hope you can get it fixed.
I have the same model. I’ve set the limits both up and down. And the sensors both have lights. When I press the clicker it opens fine. When I press it again to close nothing happens. No flashing lights, no movement at all. Only way to close is to go to wall unit and hold the button til closes. Any ideas? I’ve tried everything. No binding either 🤷🏼♂️
Sounds like it could be one of the following: A bad rpm sensor or a bad logic board , or a bad capacitor. The back of the unit should have a small light that blinks a number of times. Count the blinks and that will tell you the reason for failure if you search the model info and manual. You can check the capacitor which looks like a small battery with connections to it. If it’s corroded or leaking that could be the problem. ****Don’t touch it unless the unit is unplugged*** The rpm sensor and logic board could fail without any obvious sign. Last option you can call genie customer support who is awesome at runnng a live troubleshoot on the phone. 1800-843-4084 Let me know if any of this helped out.
Here's my problem. Reset remote on 496. when i did (didnt touch anything else) the door wont move hardly any. i set the limits, but it still wont work only a few inches. help please!
I don’t have one on this model , but the force settings are on the back of the motor next to the limit button I was pressing. It should say open force and close force on the them. Just turn them clock wise to increase pressure or opposite to decrease.
I can't find the close screw! when i have it open i see the one screw in the open slot which looks good but i see the other screw above right above the open slot! any ideas? When i set the limit and stop it where i want the door to close i don't see any screw in the left slot. This is after my chain came off and i put it back on. any ideas?
If it’s making sounds like it’s operating but not moving it might be a broken gear ⚙️ from the unit. If that’s the case might want to consider replacing the unit as a whole.
Hi, great video and have the exact same model. I am having some trouble with setting the limit of closed state. Can you please help? I'll send an email. Thanks
I’ve never had the knob fall out as a result of it going to the bottom but I’ll definitely check that out on the next one I work on. I just had two of these same units in the last week. They seem to hold their weight and lifespan.
Probably the best repair video I have ever seen. Thanks!
I appreciate the feedback! 🙏 Glad I could help 🙌

I have the same opener, my door goes down, touches the ground then comes up again all in one touch of the button. How do I make it stop at the bottom

Hi Teddy, will this work with my Phantom Overhead Door with belt drive?
Hi Dinot71,
If it has the same set up then yes. Let me know if it doesn’t and I can help.
Do you have a video on how to adjust the force and sensitivity to stop the door when something is in the way?
I don’t have one on this model , but the force settings are on the back of the motor next to the limit button I was pressing. It should say open force and close force on the them. Just turn them clock wise to increase pressure or opposite to decrease.
Awesome. Thank you very much. @@GARAGEMANTEDDY

I’m confused. Do you see two set screws in the circle at all? If you see two then we can adjust it from there….
My garage door just makes two noise but the door doesn't go up! Any idea?
If it’s making sounds like it’s operating but not moving it might be a broken gear ⚙️ from the unit. If that’s the case might want to consider replacing the unit as a whole.
Isis that and when I open it stops right away and it doesn’t go down
Did you set both the up and down limits like the video ?
My overhead garage door is jammed open
I turned the screw and didn't work
❤
How do I adjust only close limit? Opening works fine. I sent you an email.
Let me know if that helps. Thank you for watching 🙏
Hi, great video and have the exact same model. I am having some trouble with setting the limit of closed state. Can you please help? I'll send an email. Thanks
Thank you for the information. I responded to your email. Keep me posted.
If you twist the one knob all the way to the bottom it will fall out. You need to tell people that they can't go all the way to the bottom
I’ve never had the knob fall out as a result of it going to the bottom but I’ll definitely check that out on the next one I work on. I just had two of these same units in the last week. They seem to hold their weight and lifespan.
