People don't realize that being a queen is a hell of a responsibility. It is a job for life and that life can be VERY short if you're a bad queen. People have this crazy notion that queens just get to laze about eating cake whenever they want. Look how well that turned out for Marie Antoinette. They ran the household/castle, often managing the finances of the whole kingdom. They have to be the perfect model of grace, diplomacy and righteousness. Kingdoms can crumble and go to war over a single, rude comment. If other nations don't respect you, they will walk all over you to the detriment of your people. An uneducated queen is a completely useless queen. Useless queens are easily assassinated and replaced queens. Eleanor is a good queen and a good mom. Not a perfect mom by any stretch but still wanting to do what was best for her daughter and her kingdom. She must be queen first, mother second. People that hate Eleanor have no idea what she must do as queen. Merida is a right shit for simply refusing to see what her mother is trying to teach her. I liked this movie but I wished they went a different direction instead of the whole bear transformation. I really loved seeing the mom and daughter dynamic and it didn't feel like as much when the mom is a bear and can't talk. The whole first half was simply amazing and even though I dont have an overbearing mother like the queen, I could still relate and understand but the last half was ok. Still loved the film overall and have watched many times, i just felt like pixar missed out on a much better story
I completely agree, it felt like it veered off in a completely different direction, despite developing such an interesting family dynamic which also discusses the different ideas of femininity This video discusses more in depth the disconnect between the mother-daughter plot and the bear plot if you’re interested th-cam.com/video/wRjHL8kbkZk/w-d-xo.html
The original director focused on the mother and daughter relationship, but she left due to creative differences (I think). Then another director came in and put in the bear plot.
At 5:44 , when you say you were taught not to drink that water, you are able to drink it depending on where it's coming from and what body of water it is. If it's a waterfall in the mountains, it's safe to drink if it's coming out of the mountain, but if it's coming from the very top, then check the top if there's anything up there that is toxic. But if it's a river, always check upstream if there's something in the water as well. Like if there's some type of dead animal in the river upstream, don't drink, if it's a weird color, don't drink, and you could use water testing kits as well, to test for toxic chemicals. I'd say just search up this stuff. It's well known and I'm sure you could learn a lot from some cites
This movie made me cry as a kid,,, it's strangely different and magical and it really hit me when I was little. Still dunno why, though. Wasn't a sad sort of crying. I ALSO remember how upset I got with my classmates because everyone insisted that Merida's name was Brave and I was just like, "th e y don't call her that EVER in the Movie"
29:19 I don’t know-I kinda sympathize with her in that she was really reluctant to give out any spells and basically warned Merida that she always had unsatisfied customers, but Merida pushed her to “help” anyway. (Though, to be fair, the witch could have just said no.) Also, the fact that she turned them both into a bear makes me think that…maybe she’s not all-powerful? Maybe that’s the only eay she knows to change someone (though she, again, could have mentioned that beforehand if that’s the case). In further support of this, her magic seems to have a bit of a mind of its own (cf. the way the knives turned against her). Maybe it just usually listens to her, but she’s not in total control of it? ⚔️🛡 (+🐻🏹👩🏻🦰)
I loved the reaction^^ Merida became one of my favorite disney princesses and I just loooove the movie! PS: I can't wait for you to react to Treasure Planet, Atlantis or Sinbad
I love this movie too man! I sometimes imagine what the story would've been like if Merida had a crossover with LINK (The Legend of Zelda) I think Merida would've definitely liked a pretty boy forest warrior like HIM! lol Anyway her mother really needed to stop being such a stick in the mud and just let her daughter do her own thing, at least her father was more understanding about Merida than she was.
26:52 "Where did she learn how to throw hands like this?" nowhere, but at that moment the only thing she was thinking about was protecting her daughter, and a mother that is scared for her child's safety can often tap into something called "hysterical strength". "Hysterical strength" is a display of extreme strength by humans (well, bear in this case lol), beyond what is believed to be normal, usually occurring when people are in life-and-death situations. The classic anecdotal example is of parents lifting vehicles to rescue their trapped children.
This film was *really* good, but I wish it had a bit more rewatchability tbh. I also would've loved to hv seen more of the triplets - they were hilarious lol
Unpopular opinion: Merida is the villain of the film. Mor'du was a baddie but he was no real villain. He could have been cut from the film and almost nothing would have changed. Merida, on the other hand, is literally the cause of everything that goes wrong in the film. She insults chieftains allied with her father, nearly causing a war, shirks her responsibilities as a noble lady, purposely ignores everything her mother and queen is trying to teach her, she does not consider anybody else's feelings or positions. Not to mention the fact she literally pays a witch for a spell to use against her mother. A spell which she has no idea what it will do, doesn't give a shit about her mom's safety or how the rest of her family will react to Eleanor being a different person. Hell, that spell could have been straight up poison that changed her mom from a living person to a dead one and Merida didn't give a damn so long as Merida could continue being a selfish, disrespectful shit. Merida was just more concerned with winning the I'm-So-Hard-Done-By Award than anything else. Didn't want to marry? Fine, deal with that in a way that doesn't cause a war or poison your mother. Yes, there is character growth as she realized everything her mom tried to do for her really was for her benefit but that still doesn't change the fact she was a horrible child.
🛡 I say we don't thank the witch, per se, but we don't blame her either because she wasn't gonna do it. Merida refused to take no for an answer. And maybe I'm biased because I work in mental health care, but they don’t need a witch. They need a family therapist to help them be able to listen to each other and find compromise.
Just found your channel and am absolutely BINGEING your videos, your reaction vids are so fun omg. I love how you say Merida's name at the start lol, it's cool
18:43 Scots weren't Vikings. Also the reason one of the sons was hard to understand is because he was just speaking Scottish Gaelic which as funny as the joke may be, makes no sense since all of them would have spoken Gaelic at this point.
I've not seen the Gaelic version, but he's probably speaking some Scots English but because it's the English version it's been reversed & I don't speak Gaelic, although I have tried & I understood like 90% of what he said, I think it's mostly really thick Scots
@@KingBuster90 Oh ok then my mistake I guess, thanks for the correction. Regardless, the other characters would've realistically probably understood him still right? EDIT: I looked into it and supposedly he is speaking in the Doric dialect so maybe they wouldnt understand him if they didnt know the dialect then.
It's kinda funny how alot of people see the Queen as evil, bad or mean for doing her job as a Queen and mother, preparing her daughter to rule, even higher than a King. I guess it can seem kinda harsh depending on culture and opinion, but Merida showed that she was listening and her lessons came in handy. I suppose it's a play on perspective.
Both Merida and Elinor had their display of mix of both good and bad, I felt 🙂 For example, Elinor was bad in never letting Merida have freedom or make her own life choices, but she was good in the lessons and stories she told her daughter and most importantly good in loving her child and desiring to do the “best” for her
@@fd3 For me the learning curve for the mother was during Meredith talking to everyone she realized that is that her daughter is not going to be exactly like her and she should let her be her own person
I love this movie. But, I am the only one who saw Merida as the "immature" one? I notice everyone talking bad about the mom, I thought she was doing her duty as a ruler. I mean, you can see everyone respect her!
To be honest I think they're both very immature in a way they both complained about neither of them listen to 1 another yet they don't even want to listen to 1 another

Oof, this movie just makes me wonder if the Queen touched a bit home?? I wasn’t close to my mother until I was an much older. The Queen didn’t used to be a good mom. Shot out to the witch, she warned Merida before giving the spell and didn't originally want to do witchy stuff but business is business and she gave them the answer
Running water is always safe to drink as long as it's clear and running fast enough. So, she'll be fine drinking that waterfall water
ok as a scot i have deciphered that the guy who spoke in the thick accent said: "if he were a wee bitty closer i could lob a caber at him ken?" which means "if he was a little bit closer I could throw a caber (large wooden pole) at him you know?"
27:55 I’m glad Merida loved her mom.
Interesting tidbit: that horn with a "tongue" is called a carnyx. It is an ancient iron age celtic horn. They know what it sounds like- and its creepy
"This is how to be a bear"
You should watch brother bear cause it literaly does that😂
I liked this movie but I wished they went a different direction instead of the whole bear transformation.
I completely agree, it felt like it veered off in a completely different direction, despite developing such an interesting family dynamic which also discusses the different ideas of femininity
This video discusses more in depth the disconnect between the mother-daughter plot and the bear plot if you’re interested
th-cam.com/video/wRjHL8kbkZk/w-d-xo.html
exactly, this movie is good, but I feel like it had the potential to be a masterpiece and it just isn't
The original director focused on the mother and daughter relationship, but she left due to creative differences (I think). Then another director came in and put in the bear plot.
overBEARing 😭
RIval Reacts: "Where did she learn to throw hands like this?"
Me: Mah dude, she is literally a mamma bear right now...
King Fergus is Billy Connelly, best Scottish comedian ever
This is why merida is my favorite princess
EEyyy I had missed this reaction!! I loved it :) xx
my all time fav disney princess
This movie made me cry as a kid,,, it's strangely different and magical and it really hit me when I was little. Still dunno why, though. Wasn't a sad sort of crying.
I ALSO remember how upset I got with my classmates because everyone insisted that Merida's name was Brave and I was just like, "th e y don't call her that EVER in the Movie"
“.. this ones how to be a bear”
Nah man that would be Brother Bear 😎
Brother bear is the true "how to be a bear "movie
29:19 I don’t know-I kinda sympathize with her in that she was really reluctant to give out any spells and basically warned Merida that she always had unsatisfied customers, but Merida pushed her to “help” anyway. (Though, to be fair, the witch could have just said no.)
Also, the fact that she turned them both into a bear makes me think that…maybe she’s not all-powerful?
The classic anecdotal example is of parents lifting vehicles to rescue their trapped children.
i would be a bear more than a dragon cause BEAR POG
Please can you react to brother bear it criminally underrated 🐻🐾🌈
Want another bear movie? Brother bear.
This is in my opinion the best movie ever made
The witch knew what she was doing the entire time so yes we should thank her
Princesses could hunt and lead their warriors into battle. Just remember where from
Fast running water is drinkable
Cool
funfact the carving witch is voiced by molly weasly & she is KEY to the pixar theory
I love this movie! Ive been watching it for a HUGEEEEEEEEEE long majority of my life i like to think it made me who i am-
Just found your channel and am absolutely BINGEING your videos, your reaction vids are so fun omg. I love how you say Merida's name at the start lol, it's cool
Always enjoy your reactions🗡🏹🛡
(Side note you should have shown her ripping the tapestry, that's a very important scene.)
"Brujería"~~ uuUUhhh haha
18:43 Scots weren't Vikings. Also the reason one of the sons was hard to understand is because he was just speaking Scottish Gaelic which as funny as the joke may be, makes no sense since all of them would have spoken Gaelic at this point.
I've not seen the Gaelic version, but he's probably speaking some Scots English
but because it's the English version it's been reversed & I don't speak Gaelic, although I have tried
& I understood like 90% of what he said, I think it's mostly really thick Scots
Both Merida and Elinor had their display of mix of both good and bad, I felt 🙂
For example, Elinor was bad in never letting Merida have freedom or make her own life choices, but she was good in the lessons and stories she told her daughter and most importantly good in loving her child and desiring to do the “best” for her
@@fd3 For me the learning curve for the mother was during Meredith talking to everyone she realized that is that her daughter is not going to be exactly like her and she should let her be her own person
... I heard Perfect ... something that rhymes with pitch at first and I was like OMG :O XD
0:06 pls start the video always like this!
This is my favourite Disney movie of all time and I will not listen to any criticism of it.
Saying that I’ll now watch your video 😂😂😂😂 😍
I love this movie.
But, I am the only one who saw Merida as the "immature" one? I notice everyone talking bad about the mom, I thought she was doing her duty as a ruler. I mean, you can see everyone respect her!
To be honest I think they're both very immature in a way they both complained about neither of them listen to 1 another yet they don't even want to listen to 1 another
Dingwall Jr.'s only real fighting skill is biting!
rival: *keeps mentioning how to train your dragon throughout the video*

still one of my favourite movies and fmc

PS: For some reason, Disney gave me a terrible quality movie so sorry
No biggie! I still think this is a good video!
Oof, this movie just makes me wonder if the Queen touched a bit home?? I wasn’t close to my mother until I was an much older. The Queen didn’t used to be a good mom. She was always a good one, she just had some room to improve. You don’t have to be a parent to understand a dynamic between parent & child. The difference of how a relationship develops as the child grows older & what the parent (in their perspective) find best for their kids... Idk that’s just me. Never found the Queen to be prick...
I don't know what you meant on the last part but I kind of agree with you on the mother wasn't really been problem she just didn't understand her daughter now
I love this movie and this Disney princess but this movie scared me so bad as a kid and even now- I cant with the bears man
You should totally watch rango, absolute masterpiece of an animated film starting johhny depp
2:03 Whenever I see anyone commenting on the Pixar intro, I always think of this 30-second POV parody of it: th-cam.com/video/zOAVZV8tLsc/w-d-xo.html 😂
(Although apparently there's also one that's a minute and a half [I only just stumbled across it as I was searching for the other one so I could paste the line here] and it's also kinda funny: th-cam.com/video/vG_DGMWI88A/w-d-xo.html)
There's probably more, but I only made it 2 minutes into this video before searching for links and going on a rabbit trail for 30 minutes, so I'm gonna get back to Rival's video now LOL
The first 30 minutes of this movie is great.
One of my favorite movies!
Your hair looks lovely :) I hope you are taking good care of yourself and your studies are going well! Good luck!
This is the nicest comment of the entire year, thanks for this
@@RivalReacts you are kind ☺️ and thank you for reacting to Brave, it's one of my favorites
