    It's great to have access to all of these different exercises that might help arthritis; but it is also overwhelming because everyone online says they have the answers to solve your hip arthritis problems.
    The best thing to do is try different exercises for a while and pay attention to how your body feels. If they don't work, then try some other exercises until you find what works for your body.

    I am so thankful to have come across your channel. I am on a list for a left hip replacement, and just assumed I would eventually have to get a new right hip, because I was diagnosed with moderate arthritis in that hip (severe in left hip). NOW, I'm motivated to exhaust every single thing you say about hip arthritis, and do not want to discount the possibility that I can either avoid surgery in both my hips, or at the very least, avoid right hip surgery, and be in a place where my left hip will be healthy in preparation for surgery, and recovery will go more smoothly. I've also learned that my chiropractor and massage therapist, as well meaning as they are, have given me some recommendations that will only aggravate the problem. I've also gone the PRP route. Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you. I am so empowered and encouraged through what I am learning.

      Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.

    This makes the most sense! I’ve hurt myself so many times doing all these unhealthy exercises. Decades of straining and over building the front hip muscles. Thank you for saying it out loud. I had so much pain until I just stopped and rested. I also palpated the flexors. Slowly after healing I will add some gentle movement but never again those awful hip impingement exercises they push on you, even yoga. I will follow your videos instead. Thank you for saying what no one else will say!

    David, I have done every one of those 10 exercises and each one results in pain. I agree 100% on your explanations and am always conscious of using my glutes now in every movement throughout the day. I can feel the difference and I will always continue to be using my body this way. Many thanks for your valuable help.

      Hi Marie, thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're very sorry to hear that these exercises have resulted in pain. Many times the pain can come from using too much intensity or doing too much at a time.
      You may need to scale back. It's awesome to hear that you are now more conscious of your glutes throughout the day. That is a great place to start. If you can do glute squeezes many times through the day, every day but keep the intensity low, you gain some more strength and mobility.
      Small consistent movements will add up and you feel the difference. Once you build up strength you might be able to move on to these exercises, starting at the lowest intensity.
      Thank you so much for being part of our community. We hope you feel better soon and please keep us updated as you progress! 🧡

It's so important to be aware of the exercises that could actually make things worse, rather than better. Appreciated the insight into how certain exercises might feel good in the moment but lead to more pain later due to increased pressure on the joints. 🧘‍♂ It’s a reminder of how intricate the human body is, akin to the nuanced roles within the endocannabinoid system in maintaining our body's balance. 🌿Great job on emphasizing the significance of targeting the root cause and focusing on correct muscle engagement

      The way my doctor put it is: walk only as long as you can do it properly, but if you ware walking stiffly, and using compensatory muscles instead of the ones you used to use when you walk, you are going to create additional difficulties. Swimming avoids this issue. Since I don't have a pool, I just walked for 1 kilometer (about 15 min) and then I stopped and did my physical therapy exercises at home. As my glutes get stronger I think I'll be able to walk farther at a time

    I was contemplating hip surgery until I found your channel. I have now cancelled my surgery and have started following your recommended exercises. I do have osteoarthritis but I also have a complete glúteas medias tear of 1.8 cms width. In your opinion, should I contemplate surgery to repair this and, if so, will your exercises help strengthen my butt muscles?

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Jill, We’re really sorry to hear that you’re going through this. We understand how challenging and frustrating it can be to face such difficulties, especially when you’re working so hard towards your recovery.
      We truly appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us to support you on your path to recovery. It’s fantastic to hear that you’re exploring non-surgical options and following our recommended exercises.
      Regarding your gluteus medius tear, surgery is often considered based on the severity of the injury. A 1.8 cm tear is significant, but it’s worth noting that such tears can sometimes heal on their own, especially with appropriate rehabilitation. Our exercises are designed to strengthen the surrounding muscles, which can aid in your overall recovery and potentially alleviate some of the stress on the injured area.
      However, if this is a complete tear, then it may require surgery. Without a proper evaluation form one of our doctors, we would bot be able to determine this for certain. We can provide you with some general information that may help.

    I'm very concerned about getting cardio in. Besides my hip osteoarthritis I also have some issues with my heart. My doctor said bicycle elliptical and walking are also okay to do as long as i dont do inclines or higher level numbers. I must admit I was very depressed after watching this video I had already figured out which machines at the gym could cause problems with my hip, but I always thought the cardio machines were okay. I watched your video on walking properly while concentrating on the glute muscles and wondered if you could do a video on bicycling which I would be devastated if I could not continue doing.

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jill, We are so sorry you have been struggling with hip osteoarthritis and heart issues! Thank you for sharing your experience and for your kind words.
      You can still cycle as long as it doesn’t cause you any pain. The exercise should be generated from your glutes and abs to avoid exacerbating the issue. If you feel more tired and sore in your thigh area after cycling, it could cause a problem. Ideally, your glutes and abs should be the areas that are sore and tired after completing the exercises.

      “Hip Arthritis Help”
      th-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt.html
      Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key.
      Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
      If you feel better after trying it, we encourage you to look into our Hip Arthritis Recovery Program. It includes cardio exercises that can aid in your recovery and is progressive, so we can meet you where you are in your recovery process.

    My hip suddenly caused acute pain in bed one night (never had it before), then did it every few nights but not every night. It had been a bit stiff when standing from sitting on a settee. Otherwise no problems in between. Then suddenly ( ( about 4 weeks later) I suddenly found I couldn’t use the leg of the painful hip first when going upstairs. It felt as if I had no strength in the muscles of my leg and it was painful. Going down stairs a bit painful but not nearly as much. So have been resting it and avoiding doing stairs too many times in the day. It’s feeling much better but I still can’t sleep on either side but have to sleep on my back. If I sleep on the bad hip side it hurts and if I sleep on the good side the stretch makes it hurt. The fact that it came on so suddenly makes wonder if it’s more likely to be bursitis or ligament strain than arthritis. I am being very careful about the way I sit and not sitting on a low settee. I don’t feel rested sleeping on my back at night.
    When this started, I had been staying at my friend’s for 8 weeks, not doing much physical activity and sitting on a very uncomfortable settee where it was impossible to sit up straight. Could this be the cause of this or is it more likely to be arthritis? Thanks for your very interesting video which I discovered today

    After seeing this video, I feel depressed because this covers every exercise I am doing for knee and hip arthritis! I thought you recommended cycling on a stationary bike and how to use it. What are the cardio exercises you recommend? This video has left me in a void.

    My physical therapist made me do so many of those - no wonder I only got worse! I don't have bone on bone though, does that matter? I have Troch Bursitis and a torn hip flexor muscle, same side, and everything he did made it worse so I stopped going. Since I found you I've been doing your videos, so, lots of glute strengthening, which, now I can walk upstairs with NO problem, (knee problem same side). Why don't they know anything? I spent months making it all worse, until I discovered your videos.

    I really like what you are showing us about front vs. rear muscle balance causing hip and knee problems. I turn 60 in July, was too sedentary as an online special ed teacher for 7 years. Outer hip got angry and I had physical therapy for trochanteric bursitis (spring 2022), felt better until fall 2023 walking 31 miles in October and then 100 miles in November for fundraisers🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. Most of this was with 2 trekking poles to reduce weight on my hips & knees. I was sent back to PT (January for 9 weeks) because I had “slippy” sore knees. Knees felt loose, as if something would slip out of place if I stepped wrong. We did quite a few of the exercises you describe in this video 😬. Now the hips are less painful than my left knee at the pes anserine bursa area, but no obvious swelling. It makes a lot of sense that I need to strengthen my glutes to take work away from my quads, and I’m going to watch all of your videos to learn how to do this without hurting the knees. Donkey kicks on all fours was maybe too much lol but I plan to get there!

    Just yesterday my PT had me lie on my back with the ball between my knees supposedly to help with back pain. I did 10 squeezes with no problem but I did feel the exercise in my inner thighs. Later last night I felt pain in my L hip. Today I can't even walk without feeling as if my hip is out of socket😭 For me that delayed pain is so true😩

    I really appreciate this channel 😊. So, what exercises should you do if you are bone on bone? And which ones do you do after hip replacement?

    So which specfic iexercises should we be doing to strengthen glutes and correct the imbalance? I've looked through the videos but not sure? Is it just clam and glute squeeze or are there others? Which title videos?

    Thank you for this video! I just found out that everything I was doing to combat my hip arthritis was making it worse! When you said that sometimes the exercises feel good and help while you're doing them, or right afterwards, they can cause more pain later on. I've been doing chair aerobics and chair yoga 5-6 time a week for 4 years and it helps during the day but when I'm lying in bed at night, my hip starts to really hurt. I will definitely be looking at your videos that show me what I should be doing. Again, thank you so much!

    What is the point of doing exercise we can do anything

    Thank you for giving me the clue about the mechanics of the movement and very detailed explanation of what is good and what is bad. All i had before was "do this, do that". Now i see what really matters and good for me and a reason behind. Sometimes very simple exercises are what you really need, but when you are given something more difficult, it may impress you more. That is the problem with many people and their therapists.
