  • Two Meteorologists react to movie clips involving weather. These movies aren't specifically meteorology movies like Twister etc., but they do have scenes with weather in them.

    The pyroclastic eruption in _Dante's Peak_ blew my little five year old mind when I first saw it.
    It also made me a disaster film fan.

    Deep Impact, Dante's Peak and The Impossible: accurate disaster movies ever made. Change my mind!

    Dante's Peak was an amazing film

    • @CynderSpirit
      @CynderSpirit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's really underrated, I mean the effects are on the level of Jurassic Parks effects to the point the movie really makes you believe a volcano is erupting.

  • @Riku-zv5dk
    @Riku-zv5dk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    For the 3rd clip, Dante's Peak, the bridge is the only remaining way out of town, the other one collapsed in the initial eruption the day before, so they have to cross it then and there. The soldiers had been overseeing the evacuation while the scientists had been monitoring the volcanic data so they could tell them when they had to go, but as soon as the bridge was in danger of going they had to go. There is also lightning in earlier scenes

    • @nicolaas2
      @nicolaas2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, i mean the scene with the 2 kids driving to they're grandma had lightning in it, there was even some lightning scenes from the sky.

    • @Riku-zv5dk
      @Riku-zv5dk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nicolaas2 I remembered that after I posted it originally, so I only made a small edit to point it out, but yeah in the initial eruption, which was the day before the scene where the bridge collapses, we do see plenty of lightning constantly, from the kids driving up the mountain, to the scene where the idiot pilot tried to fly people out in his helicopter.

    What I love about the cheese movies about disastrous weather is that if you do some extreme suspension of belief, they're absolutely terrifying. Glad that doesn't happen in reality lol.

    Fun facts.......Dante's Peak was filmed in a little town in Idaho but set in Washington state and Mt St Helen's was the stand in for the mountain after it blew so all the shots you see of a real mountain are actually Mt St Helen's in Washington

    Dante’s peak is my favorite movie

  • @JRexTheKing

    King Ghidorah, the 3 headed dragon, is the one causing the storm. It’s because of his alien nature. He’s not FROM EARTH. Plus his golden scales are an excellent conductor of electricity. No matter where he is, he’s always causing that lightning. Even if it doesn’t make sense, it’s what us action-movie fans like to call “The Rule Of Cool”, basically we’re willing to ignore all real-life facts, just because what we’re seeing is AWESOME.

  • @JonnyQuest64

    Lightning on the core has zero to do with typical lightning...the movie plot is something about an imbalance in neutrinos causing the core to shut down. The lightning is caused by charged particles from the sun interacting with our atmosphere(kind of like aurora lightning). Still not the best scientifically accurate movie but makes a little more sense with that tidbit of info

    • @rebelriley11

      The Core is a great popcorn flick.

    • @JonnyQuest64
      @JonnyQuest64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rebelriley11 exactly. Neutrinos don't normally do any of that but they explain in the movie that they are behaving differently. Great little flick through and through

    The reason there is lightning in the snow storm is because gidorah controls lightning

  • @light564

  • @Jacksonsmithzoso

    The reason why there was lighting in the snowstorm is the dragon named gidora has a lighting beam he shoots out

    • @MeteoTechWx

      Ah okay yeah we were debating whether or not all the lightning was meteorological or not haha thanks!

    • @JRexTheKing
      @JRexTheKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MeteoTechWx it’s because Ghidorah isn’t from our planet. He has an ability to heat up water in the earth’s atmosphere, creating a storm equivalent to a Category 6 Hurricane. And his scales have traces of gold, which happens to be an excellent conductor of electricity, which makes him all the more powerful.

    I'm a Godzilla fan I'm glad Hollywood didn't mess up the movie like sometimes it does. And the beginning of the scene with the core you have to remember it is about the core stopping rotation which I heard scientists before on TH-cam say that it could cause a lot of electrical interference is not necessarily storms like what is normal. So I don't know if that's completely out of the question about what happened in Rome on that movie.

    In "The Core" wasn't the lightning an Ionospheric phenomenon due to the demagnetization of the Earth, and not a cloud based formation?
    PS. I may have some of the terms off a bit, but I hope you can understand what I meant by it.

    Eh, the scene where they run from the pyro cloud, is not very realistic. It's an explosion. That could moves like the pressure wave of a large explosion. Unless that truck can go supersonic, it would be caught by the cloud in a few seconds. You cannot outrun a volcanic pyro cloud in a car - ever.
