If the degree is a usa meteo degree without any double major, completely useless. They do not know math, they do not know physics, they are not engineers, they can look at pictures and can deduce some stuff anyone having a hobby on this can. Compare this with mech eng degree and you will see meteo degree is all mickey mouse tv showmanship. No wonder all important meteo papers are written by people who had an undergrad in a non-meteo department. They can appear on Tv and do baby talk. This, they can do.

You Americans managed to turn a sub-field of physics which actually requires a lot more math than just calc and odes into a Mickey Mouse field of TV showmanship and basically committed a sacrilege. Go check how many and how advanced math classes Taiwanese undergrads are taking. Your concept of meteo is just a soft thing, not science, not engineering. What you call calc 1 Europeans learn in highschool. Meteorology is physics which means even if you do not apply on everyday basis, you need to learn a lot more physics, electromag theory etc. For you radar meteorology is just looking at pictures with an elementary-school level of description of electromag waves. Good that Americans did not commit the same sacrilege in engineering. I know that this channel means well and wants to inform people, do not take it personally, my criticism is the US attitude of turning a science into an entertainment and calling the dismal level of math and physics they require "high level".

This year (2024) marks the 98 years since the first and (so far) only EF4 or EF5 tornado event in Paraguay. It was 1926 in the southern city of Encarnación, well into the South American Tornado Alley. It has been really hot the whole day and by dusk a storm system approached from the South. The tornado touched in the river and entered through the dock area of the old city. The winds are estimated to have been of around 250 Km/H, with 300 people losing their lives. Keep in mind that cities in Paraguay were very scarcely populated in the early 20th century. I heard horrific stories from that event: they said that, because most homes had their roofs made of cheap zinc sheets, many of the deaths occurred as they would come flying into people and striking them. Other older houses would be made of mud and their walls simply melted due to the heavy rains and extremely fast winds, with entire structures falling onto people.

When you look at the ship scene at the beginning of your review, and the way the ship hit the dockside, it would have probably breached most of the hull on that side, so it would never have been allowed to sail. The NTSB would have been all over it in no time.

I am not sure my comment we t through. I applied to UNCA and NCSU out of high school. UNCA did not accept me. NCSU did. I was in AFROTC as well. I attend school for a year before enlisting in Air Force in weather. I always wanted to work at SSL in Norman, but never applied for OU meteorology. I worked civilian weather in Colorado for 13 months after service. It has been 24 years since I been away from working in meteorology. I have taken NWS Blacksburg SkyWarn courses and NCAR courses since then. I also applied for NWS Alaska back in 2012. I fell one short from being accepted. I love severe weather and get excited when tornado watches and Warnings are issued here in central NC. I will study NCSU maps and skew Ts plus OSU weather maps to analyze conditions.

I actually went to NCSU after not being selected by UNCA. I was part of AFROTC at NCSU. So I left school after a year for Air Force. I desired to work at Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, but never applied to OU. I been away from meteorology for about 24 years, but did apply in 2012 for NWS Alaska. I was one person short of making it. I still love severe thunderstorms and get excited when there is tornado watches and Warnings in NC.

Yes lots of patience needed and if like me you are in a country like Australia, it can also be difficult! A lot of places simply don't have roads or they will be sketchy dirt roads that will turn to slush if you get caught in a storm. We have nothing like the road network the USA has here (well in the cities we do) Storm season is about to begin and I'm hoping to get lots of time lapse lightning and see at least one tornado as we do get them here but many aren't recorded as they are not seen by anyone.

a nuclear weapon cannot detonate if its been hit by a tornado or damaged especially by a tornado, it also cannot detonate if hit by lightning either, as far as i know, even the movie Broken Arrow explains this sort of thing. plus the nuclear material is basically a ball of metal and cant really be damaged if exposed. THIS is why there's no disaster movie about it happening.

reasons why older movies had better depictions of tornados and weather, is because of practical special effects especially water tank cloud effects as shown in the Neverending story, close encounters if the 3rd kind, poltergeist, my science project, star trek, superman, and such films of that time vs modern movies using impractical "cheap" cgi visual effects. that have no practical physics involved.

Just found the channel, awesome to see actual Meteorologists reacting to Twisters (and other weather-based movies I see on the channel) and Twister etc. So, I'm 48. I studied Meteorology in college in the early 90s, I was 2 1/2 years into my studies, but then we got to more advanced math and stuff I just couldn't keep up with mentally at the time - so I had to bench that dream sadly. But I still love Meteorology obviously. I love storms, especially blizzards and hurricanes. So, with that brief backstory - it's so fun listening to meteorologists talk about the terminology, how "realistic" the CGI in movies is to reality etc. etc. As for Twisters, yeah it was great. I loved it. But I'd like to mention, a lot of the tornado stuff in the movie was actual footage the filmmakers filmed either from chasers or with the chasers. So, most of the tornado scenes were "real" tornadoes - just cleaned up with some CG and of course the debris and destruction were added in full CGI.

one thing in twisters that's not in twister is Jo was told by aunt Meg to go stop the tornado as a friendly "joke" suggestion and Jo says she doesn't know how, but in twisters Kate figures out how to stop the tornado with cloud seeding.

the most almost realistic tornado in this movie was the first clip of the second tornado, and no, none of the tornadoes rotated anti cyclonic none rotated at all they all "rotated" vertically. Hollywood filmmakers obviously do not know tornado physics and dynamics.

oh look, 4:30 and 6:00 they drew the tornadoes and severe thunderstorm on the graphs in a side view squashed appearance. or maybe the back side of the storm, i wonder what a non tornadic thunderstorm looks like on this type of graph? video idea !?

5:35 - i seen one, during Taal Volcano erupsion in The Philippines. the lightning around the volcanic clouds and ashes is stunning.

In the book the tornado stopped on top of the house and stayed in that spot for 6 minutes straight. Yeah I'd be dead right there

Would love to see a case study reaction on the '1980 Grand Island Tornado outbreak' that inspired this film. 7 tornadoes hitting the city in one night, and 3 of the 7 being anti-cyclonic. No video of the tornadoes, but great maps, satellite images leading up, and aftermath images. Still a significant man made hill in the city made from the debris and covered over with dirt, with a memorial marker. This is an outbreak that was thankfully less deadly than it could have been.

You guys can dismiss it as hilarious, but it'll not be that when it happens....you young people have no clue.
