I'm french and I like Picard frozen food for its taste and because it's practical but I don't eat it everyday. Except for that I love your enthusiasm while discovering each meal in this video and wish that some french would do the same instead of constantly criticizing what we have. The youth, especially, would prefer burger, sushi or kebab over this while I like both as well as traditional french cuisine 😋
My wife swears by that salmon dish, I love the mustard pasta, my kids love the truffle pasta. Haha. Watching on vacation away from Paris and feel like I’m at home. Loved this!
As a French now living in California, Picard is definitely one of the top stores I miss! Would love having access to that franchise here in the US. Picard food is always a hit!

Unfortunately, we french are like everyone else: we don't always have the time nor inclination to cook everyday after a day of work. That's why Picard exists. And to be honest, some of the food Picard sells is better than most of us could cook at home.

I must say it's is quite surreal and funny to see you reviewing Picard's food which can't be more "everyday life" for me 🙂. But it is so refreshing to have another point of view for something I am so used to it. It's true that the quality is pretty good for frozen food and sometimes excellent. For Christmas and new year Eve, the options are really stunning with limited releases and can help single people having a great meal by themselves.

@@oasissoldier En ayant vécu en Angleterre 8 ans et revenu en France on se rend pas compte que les plats préparés de chez Picard sont bien au dessus de ceux dans certains pays. Après c’est sûre que ça vaut pas les bon restaurants ou le fait maison mais quand même ont est bien mieux loti que dans beaucoup de pays.
I was born in Paris in the 70’s and back then milk was delivered in bottles at our door and my mom would buy food at the fresh fruit/vegetable market where live poultry was also sold . I would never think 50 years later frozen food would be sold in Paris! Really great video 👌

French guy here : "escalopes" are definitely not scallops, escalopes are simply a way to cut and prepare meat. Scallops would translate to "coquille saint jacques" afaik.
Great tips for budget minded travelers especially with the exchange rate right now. That Quinoa and salmon looked so yummy and you singing it's praises make me want to try it even more.
Because of the way Mike has filmed the different items, you can't really see the servings/portions are quite small even by French standards. There are definitely better options for budget minded travelers.

Is it really?! As a french person it's just... normal ? Even not that good? Personally I like Picard though, my friends always get snobby with it, but not everyone takes time to make homemade meals 2 times a day, or can afford to go to the restaurant, so it's a fine option.
This video really exemplifies what's so great about Mike; he's not pretentious. Just because it's relatively cheap microwave food, he doesn't go in going 'this is going to be so bad, let's see how bad it is'.

Well in realistic terms, this was a planned video and it wasn't to save money. He got quite a bit more money for the video than he spent. He knew we wanted to see the difference and made a day out of it.

Now I want pasta, a burger, & the pistachio gelato (rewatched your Italy video before this); and I want to try most of these frozen French foods. According to Tom Scott videos I've seen, that first restaurant is kind of an idea that was started for microwaves decades ago, where the idea was you'd come there, order your food and heat it up. Funny to see it working in Paris of all places.
I've always wanted to visit France, and obviously by your wonderful reactions to Picard's, I'm all over that. I love truffle, but some chefs overdo it for flash. Less is definitely more.

Used to live in Paris for 3 years, was a depressed teenager who got moved into a foreign country so suddenly during my puberty and I really didn't like the people there. I truly miss France though, would love to go back. Yeah and the food was definitely amazing and they were all so fresh. The boulangeries, kebab and pizza places, the muscles from Léon!! My lord. Highlight of my years living in Paris, 100 percent.

Parisian fresh food markets are great. As for frozen food, Picard is really good quality, but what you get in other supermarkets isn't at the same standard. Good thing that Picard is quite common at least in Paris.
It is funny to see you discovering something very common in France. But indeed Picard is good quality stuff. About cassoulet, I’m surprised you didn’t more comments from the South West of France. Many cities over there claim they have invented the dish and that their recipe is better. But it is also the kind of dish that each family has it’s own recipe. You have to come back to France to go to that part of France, you’ll love it.

Yes, French frozen food is so good that a lot of bistros in Paris serve frozen food to cut costs for staffs and rental space. They get their food from Picard’s or Metro(huge store like Costco for restaurant owners) It was in a French tv documentary. I’ve been living in Paris 10 years now and don’t care for their restaurants. I cook French food at home.
Absolutely beautiful area and video, love watching your travels, since its very hard for me to travel. The into with the wooden utensils, i instantly felt that wood on my teeth. Gave me chills. lol
near montmatre there’s a convenience store that’s just frozen food where you can eat there, there’s toaster ovens and microwaves !! you have to go and try there’s hundreds of stuff lol
That frozen food store would be my favorite place to go.. I'm not the most clever when it comes to cooking but already portioned and all i gotta do is heat it up.. lesssgooo. XD I do feel guilty about packaging tho.. so hopefully its recyclable n such.
We have this in every supermarket in Belgium. It all looks more healthy than it really is though, the food tends to contain lots of salt and doesn't have the best quality products, otherwise it would become too expensive. Its definitely better than some fast food takeaway but one really shouldn't rely on it for every day meals either. Think him loving it says more about the quality of US food in general compared to French/Belgian food than anything else. Both our countries are known for having great food in general.

One of my regrets from my trip to France for D-Day 70th celebrations was not being able to try all the amazing meals in the markets because I was too busy eating fresh seafood daily in the Normandy region lol.
Picard used to be open for a few years in my city. I miss it so much. I don't buy everything there though. I always do my research and read the online reviews first. I only buy the highly rated products (at least 4 stars)

Trader joe food is just name brand companies selling under the TJ label. They are the same you find in normal grocery stores.

One of my regrets from my trip to France for D-Day 70th celebrations was not being able to try all the amazing meals in the markets because I was too busy eating fresh seafood daily in the Normandy region lol.

Picard used to be open for a few years in my city. I miss it so much. I don't buy everything there though. I always do my research and read the online reviews first. I only buy the highly rated products (at least 4 stars)
