- Dan Prosser compares the brand new Aston Martin Vantage to its toughest rivals, the Porsche 911 Turbo S and McLaren Artura. The latest Vantage is tougher, faster and more aggressive than before, but it'll need to be spectacularly good to drive to take care of the best cars in the class. So how good is it?

Hard to believe I’ve driven this road for the last 30+ years going to work every weekday
Lucky chap although I bet it gets interesting in bad weather!
@@neilhandbury I’ve driven this road in every weather condition known to man, day and night, it’s truly an incredible road and when the conditions are right you’ll get some of the best sunrises and sunsets anywhere in the world up on top.
Where is it Richard
@@phildarbyshire1496 hi Phil… the mountain they are on is the Bwlch-Y-Clawdd and the roads are the a4061 and the a4107. I’ve been waiting for a video as I passed a lorry parked up last week, the type you know has something fancy in the back
Yes,done near Treorchy, recognise it now. I'm up in Manchester, get to play out in North Wales but have to go of beaten track to avoid cameras nowadays
Steve’s review of the Mclaren P1 is a legendary piece of car journalism. Epic. Love his work.
Great vid guys, just think nowadays 4k should be the norm for this kind of high end video just to give it the more polished feel it deserves 😎
Hardly worth it with the amount of compression TH-cam puts on it
@@harryspeakup8452 I do notice a difference on my computer between 1440p and 1080p. Not sure 4k really is quite as apparent a jump.
McLaren every time bloody epic the Arturas to drive, even tempted to buy one myself was so impressed when I borrowed one for a few days. Best steering, best ride, best power train and the Arturas come with a 5ur warranty as standard, cracking cars!
They’re not terribly expensive. I’m just worried about reliability and depreciation
Hope you know great towing company cause you will need it a lot.
A great film, thank you. For me, I'd take the Aston without a second thought. I like my cars with muscle (I have two Mustangs) and the Vantage has more than enough muscle for me. And it has looks that make me go weak at the knees. Keep up the great work with the channel!
I'll take all 3
lol
New drinking game - shot every time Dan overtakes the camera car!! 🤪
Great to see The Intercooler working with Steve Sutcliffe. A legend. This channel will go from strength to strength. Keep up the great work in general. Thank you.
911s are just too expensive anymore. My 991.2 GT3 was 155,000 USD in 2018. When I called about the 992 they said $250,000. I hung up. That’s ridiculous.
I bet The Porsche will be the most reliable and easiest to live with , it’s stupid fast yet totally useable day to day , that McLaren will undoubtedly breakdown multiple times but I bet it’s the one to make you feel the most special and does look to my eyes , the best , that AM always seems like it’s got itself into a competition with similar merc , like back in the old days AM seemed to be in competition with the Jaguar of the time . The exhaust noise of the AM comes across as trying too hard . Personally I’d one want the McLaren but I’d buy the Porsche out of those 3 cars
Nice test. The Turbo is the choice if you want something under the radar. The new Turbo will be out soon with twin electric turbos & zero lag and GTS style small hybrid battery.
Guys its 2024, 1080p TH-cam uploads look terrible, they are insanely compressed. Please upload at 4k
Nice review !....For me , I'd take the Aston because : 1 ) while I love the Porsche it's mainstream & I prefer Boutique Sports / SuperCars 2 ) the Maclaren leave's me cold 3 ) Aston it is , as I'm a Classic 3 box Coupe man and with 650 horse , that'll do.
I'm not an old man, but I can't stand a busy ride. It's not just annoying, it's dangerous and slow. Since I love the look of the Vantage, I'll buy a poster for the office wall, and keep a real McLaren in the garage.
The feedback and reviewing done in this video was world class. Thank you!
Having driven and owned a few fast cars in my day, I can honestly say, "I have no answer."
I'm guessing the Porsche can seem a bit boring to an automotive journalist, I get that but to an enthusiast that may be getting their first and maybe only dream car, the Porsche checks so many boxes. To me at least, it would be a fresh and fantastic driving experience and probably the best ownership experience. Since we're dreaming fake money, make it an "S" and sign me up.
The Turbo is kinda boring to journos because it is. It offers the most basic unfussed performance experience. It's good but Porsche make cheaper cars that are a lot more thrilling to drive, the Turbo S is a bit of a white elephant, the one you get to flex, not because it offers the most thrilling and fun experience.
Because its an overpriced car like everything in Porsches list. A Turbo S is a 150k car max, not a 270k one.
The problem these days is you can get another 992 Carrera, T, or S, even GTS and have the same or better an experience for less money. The only thing the Turbo does is go even faster. It was different in the days when the base cars were naturally aspirated. Think of the 996 where you were lucky to get 300 or 320 hp from the Carrera and then the Turbo had 414 or 444 with an option package. That's a massive difference. These days everything is fast so you're paying quite a large sum more for the same experience just dialed up a bit. Modern Porsches are technically brilliant but they don't all give you fizzy sensations. They're just immensely competent. And it's not going to hold a candle to a carbon monocoque supercar like a McLaren in terms of being special.
1 minute in and I’m already like, this is just brilliant. This is exactly the line up to compare! Well done guys.
I feel like this wasn’t a fair comparison. Having owned a McLaren Artura, it is a legit supercar. I would also say that the 911 Turbo S has super car performance, but doesn’t have the drama of a supercar, which I think is its greatest strength. The one drawback with the McLaren is that it attracts a lot of attention, which can be frustrating at times I recently drove the new Aston and I agree with you in that they made the suspension is too stiff to the point where it feels like a sports car, but it’s not supercar level at all. I feel the Vantages competitors are the AMG GT63, BMW M8, Bentley continental GT
AM have really upped their game. Awesome review and film, well done team 👍🏼
Give me the money and i would go for the Aston Martin. The 911 Turbo S is just a Porsche and brilliant at that. The McLaren you need to be a supercar guy or within that kind of crowd.
With the Aston Martin you will allways be the cool guy.
British car journalists like british cars, what a shock. Interesting that they didn't talk about the resale values on the McLarens and Aston Martins.
Great review. The finish order is no surprise. The most shocking part about it is the price of the 911 turbo I just shows how insane Porsche has gotten with their pricing.
No losers here lets be honest would love all 3. I own a vantage, have had a 911, and if i was to upgrade it would be the new Vantage or the Artura. Reliability on the Macca would be my concern, not an issue with the other two
My 56 reg Vantage V8 had a crashy ride, shame they still haven't sorted that out, and yes it too important to overlook if you're driving it on a regular basis.
V8 sounds are hard to surpass, and I am fond of my two flat-six sports cars. That AM sound n style = awesome entertainment.
Very surprised by the Aston Martin as well 😎
Would have them alll
❤❤❤❤❤
My favs
would go gt3 rs
Love that 911’s spec. Black interior on an Aston always seems like a missed opportunity.
Yeah Aston Martin really really stepped it up and made their cars desirable The looks were always there but using that AMG V8 with new bespoke interior they knocked it out of the park I would pick the new vantage over any new coupe sports cars
Best car channel out there at the moment. Kudos!
MCLAREN ARTURA is best among these by a mile
I'd be up all night trying to decide between the Aston and the Mclaren
im choosing the new Aston over these tbh. drove the turbo s and was a little too laggy and soft for me. So was the Aston I owned but the looks and sound made up for it.
It's the Aston for me!
I’d take a 718 Cayman GT4 RS over all of these. But I’d happily own any of those 3 and the Aston is just drop dead gorgeous.
Can I ask why the Roma is not included?
Beautiful aston 😊
Agreed 👍
The 911 Turbo S is the most reliable practical daily supercar with impeccable record. It has stood the test of time! It takes a 911 TS owner to appreciate its ownership. It’s true. The other cars are flashier in this review but they lack the 911 exclusive manufacture legacy and craftsmanship..
one common theme is also all 3 of them will depreciate quite a bit, except maybe relatively less on the porsche but it's also certainly the highest depreciating porsche out there. Awesome comparison video
The Porsche has very solid residuals whereas the Aston and McLaren depreciate a lot. The Porsche is the least exciting but it will be the best investment and the most reliable car and most usable in wet conditions. It is a classical case of head vs heart.
Wrong. I own the turbo s. Got it for 200k and the cheapest in the uk market is around 140k. Turbo s depreciates. The GT cars do better
@@Fzr005 of course the Turbo S depreciates but nothing compared to the other two. Go and look at the residuals of Aston's and McLaren. The other two drop like a rock.
@@almac9203 On these models there are no residuals greater than 10-20K because they're relatively new. It's gonna be a few more years before we get real numbers.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks go and look at the history of the 3 brands and you will have a pretty good idea about their future residuals. Aston Martin and McLaren values drop like rocks whereas Porsche 911 are very solid. Is there anything specific about these models that would cause them to behave outside their established norms? You can always get Aston's and McLaren's with steep discounts on the secondary market.
Turbo S is great if upgraded to es motor UK packages, Aston is just ok but we can get same power n looks with an m2 upgraded by Litchfield as per harry metcalfe's review... artura is defeated by the great 296
Maybe it’s just me, but I think I will still take the Porsche. On the daily side, it seems to make the most sense It’s most practical and a crazy amount of fun. The McLaren will be a close second for me and the Ashton Martin would be a third. But if we’re talking about a weekend car, it will probably be a different story.
'and when you turn it into a corner' and you suddenly have to make a steering correction @ 1.50
great channel excellent video
Lightness and ride.....
Because I live in Yorkshire and we have crap roads and the weather can be crap as well, the head says 992 Turbo S. The heart says Vantage. I don't like the design of the Artura and I don't know if I could trust the reliability and Dealer network..Tough one but I'd have a 992 GT3 Touring..😂😂
Correction: the Aston Martin is also mid engined.
Saying it's front engined isn't incorrect though. The engine is in the front. If you want to "um actually" and say it's front-mid engined then maybe it is, but nobody is going to say the Aston Martin is mid-engined because that refers to things like McLarens, some Ferraris, Porsche Caymans, Lamborghinis that aren't SUVs, etc.
ASTON MARTIN is the winner 🏆
Aston looks the best
Wait, the conclusion at 12:06 starts less than halfway into a 24:28 video?
I can not be interested in the Beetle. The Aston is for the eyes and ears. But the dream for me, the poster car... the McLaren 🤩 I can just imagine how light and sharp it feels.
Well, they do say the Porsche is the thinking man's supercar ...
Interesting that it seems like all "sports" cars with a front engine suffer from that busy ride etc thing.
You hear these comments in every review when talking about, the vantage,M cars, Amg gt, previous c63 etc.
Looks like they have to stiffen them so much for the engine being in the front and high power that the ride always suffers.
Thats the difference between the mid/rear engine stuff and the front engine cars for me.
It doesn't have to be this way but the car weighs estimated something like 3,750 lbs. So yes mid-engined cars can ride better for some inherent reasons, but heavier cars that are meant to be sporty will almost always ride worse than lightweight ones. That's 450 or so pounds heavier than the McLaren. I'd bet a 3000 pound front-mid engined car could be sporty and also made to ride quite a bit better as well.
Any one of them please just leave me the keys..
Daily porshue
Arthur for fun
Aston to let everyone know u have achieved your ambition.
Ummmmm go on the aston please..
Epic content guys your nailing it week on week. Thanks for all your hard work 😎
Did they resolve the Artura's problems? McLaren's are great handling cars but man do they have a horrendous reliability record.
The new Vantage is really the best new AMG you can currently buy!
That’s a lot of hood.
The Aston reminds me of a fit guy in a tight shirt and skinny jeans who happens to be fifty.
It might be nice to look at for a little while but in the long run you want a new model.
1 aston
2 McLaren
3 Porsche
This is my preferer, aston is very beautiful
The old geezer is confused . One minute he says the Mclaren has loads of torque at 2000 rpm then instantly changes his tune and says it needs revving to get the best of it!
suppose if u want a car that's on the road 99% of the time rather at the mechanics/ garage then its the Porsche. The Aston has "character" , sounds like the "she's got a lovely personality" line.
Buy a Toyota then.
In bad wether a Nissan GTR is overwhelming. Specially with Michelin. 🎉
Why the Vantage is so BIG?
while it used to be too small hahaha
So just supposing you had won a lump of money on the lotto and could buy one of these but it had to be used every day for local ish drives, supermarket dashes and the odd blast down to the cote d'azur. Which one would it be? Asking for a friend.
Porsche is the obvious choice if you had to use it every day IMO. I don't get this 'Porsche is boring' attitude at all... It may not feel as special, it may not be as wild but if it feels boring you're simply not driving it fast enough. Fact that you can't drive a car fast enough to get it going on a public road in the UK does not mean it's boring. If money wasn't an issue and it was 2nd, or third car I'd take the McLaren but Porsche is the winner if it had to be driven every day.
Bollox. McLaren is perfectly usable all year round but feels way more special.
@@bozukbeyinthe Porsche is the rational choice. It has the best build quality and most reliable and will hold its value and best no fuss supercar. The others look more exciting but there is a reason why Porsche outsells other supercars.
Nice if you can afford it and you can lock it in the garage away from car thieves.
why pick the artua over the mclaren gts, seemed more apples to apples
I love AMG engines, but why doesn't Aston use their own in-house developed engine?
Cost
It’s none of them. Hear me out….Restomods of N/A legends like an E92, E30, 280z, every 911 pre 991.2, will be the most sought after cars. Why spend 300k for a numb feeling car when the same amount car go into a restomod hero car with added wireless charging and apple CarPlay?(aka…your next video idea, you’re welcome)
Nope😂
I don't these are numb feeling especially, especially the McLaren. If anything, McLaren are one of the few manufacturers left making one of the more rawest cars nowadays.
No Roma 😢
That is more of a GT car, like a Bentley Conti or DB11 (similar time).
812 is king
YEP
Brilliant video. I'd take the Aston hands down
Aston is the winner of this group on looks and sound alone, Porsche the most boring and McLaren, well let's just say you'll need brave pills and that's coming from a McLaren owner!
You need glasses
@@brettreaby I'm glad we all like different things!
Appreciate your honesty. Totally agree. I have a DB11 and wish I could afford one of the newest AM’s
And with that comment you didn't say anything. First of all next time when you make an afirmation in this context try to mention the model of a car brand not the entire brand itself as the people you watched in this video did
@@dobrelaurentiu6091 Did you actually watch the video ? I wouldn't be talking about other cars than those driven would I? Context is the video!!!
Is the mercedes V8 an Aston Martin or is it the other Way around ?
It is a Mercedes. They use it in all their AMG products and have done so for ages.
No Ferrari or Merc? 😮
Why does he keep overtaking the camera car every 10 second, kinda annoying
Whole shoot was done in under a day. Not much time for B roll. But I agree, it was pretty repetitive.
Great job guys,, my favorite car reviewers!
Porsch is indeed a great SUV maker these days, their liability is very well known, but when it talks to sports cars, they are just boring.
GT3? GT2? GT4? Carerra t… all boring?! Have a day off 🤦🏼♂️😂
They are not
Tell me you’ve never driven a “Porsch” without telling me you’ve never driven one
Love Astons - but for me, got to be the turbo s for everyday do all supercar. It’s the only car I’d ever need
Porsches are bland…McLarens are quirky…
Then there’s the Aston…
Poor Andrew is never allowed to drive the cars.
Less stimulants Andrew…
So it is not a Rolls Royce with attitude...
As expected, a bit British biased, but still fun to watch.
What gen 911 turbo does "numb, blunt" apply to?
996.
991. Especially the 991.1.
Funny you mentioned the convertible one...on film what comes across is the hard top but for its poor fitting.... and having said that this is another review that bypasses all the problems that the brand has become known for. The first priority for any car is reliability and build standard... and the second one is to not shed lots and lots of money. The Mac ticks all boxes...except the critical ones and albeit it is the best sports car here by a mile it is also The Worst Choice. And it has earned a terrible reputation for that very simply matter. Throttle House named it the Best Worst Car Ever... so: you need to address these matters (rather than putting up a PR shade over them) and ideally you would be showing much greater details about all the cars than you did. In between the common this unexciting 911 Turbo (a GT3 would have been a different matter....) and the Vantage I would take the Vantage for its beauty and exclusivity albeit the 911 Turbo remains the best choice here for ones who put their heads above their souls.... Still your review is appreciated and I have enjoyed it. Thank you. ps The best sports car is one with a NA mid engine and 3 pedals eg none of these here today. from memory only Porsche and GMA make these nowadays and I am leaving Caterhams and the like aside for obvious reasons. .
Not everyone has had those experiences. Ex Evo contributor has owned ( and still owns) multiple McLarens and has had very, very few issues. His 650😂S just got back from its 9th annual service with zero issues.
The Porsche is so boring. Boring to look at boring to drive. So overpriced
Nah hell nah, Porsche looks timeless and beautiful, it is def not boring and def not overpriced
Most aloof of the three? Yes. Boring? Not hardly, lol.
@@joetacchino4470not boring compared you a Camry. But very boring compared to any super car
I would have the Macca. Even with the hybridization.
