    I just started getting into Ardbeg and peated scotch in general. I bought a bottle of Uigeadail, and it's now my favorite whisky. I'm going to have to try the others in ardbeg's lineup to compare.

    The first Ardbeg I tried was the 10. It blew me away! I immediately wanted to try the other varieties. Went for the Uigeadael next. WOW! This became my favorite scotch (even more than Lagavulin 8). The next variety I tried was the An Oa. It has the nice campfire/peat finish that you'd expect from a good scotch. However, it had a nose and pallet that were, in my opinion, too sweet. I agree with Jeremy here that the An Oa is cool if you're looking to try something a little different. It's interesting to get the campfire/peat notes along with the sweet notes. But for *me*, the point of drinking scotch is to luxuriate in flavors that remind you of the sea, campfires, smoked meats, citrus, leather, etc. Its a very distinct flavor profile you're going for with scotch, which kind of take you to a destination (if that makes sense). If I want sweet or medicinal flavors, on the other hand, I'll buy American or Canadian whiskey. My $0.02. Great review!! Can't wait to try the Corryvreckan! Subbed!

    I was in Scotland about a year and a half ago, and, naturally, I wanted to get some scotch to bring home to Ontario. I was on my way to take a ferry out to see a castle on the Isle of Mull, and we stopped at a corner shop on the way out. It just so happened that there was a little whiskey shop attached to it, so I went in and had a look, and was immediately overwhelmed by the choices and variety. I wound up blindly grabbing a bottle of Ardbeg 10. I didn't know you could get it at the LCBO, haha. Looking back, I should have done some research and grabbed something that you can't find here. No regrets, though. Ardbeg 10 is incredible.
    I also wound up randomly coming across a bottle of Lagavulin 16 in the gift shop of that ferry for around 50 Scottish pounds, which was a whiskey that I had been seeking out. At the time, you couldn't get it at the LCBO where I live, but you can now. Ah well, live and learn.

    I bought my first Islays today. The Uigeadail and Laphroaig 10. Both proved wonderful introductions to peat. I can't be sure which I like more. They are so different, yet amazing in their own ways. Uigeadail is like smoked brisket, and Laphroaig made me realize how much peat and black licorice have in common.

  • @pl3317
    @pl3317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, I agree, the Corryvreckan is the best. I don't particularly like some elements of the smell of the 10 - I would prefer a Laphroaig QC or Talisker 10.

    If I had to rank these in order of my preference I'd go Corry > Oogie > An Oa > Ten. Some years ago I used to say that the Ardbeg 10 ruined other whiskies for me, but now Corryvreckan has ruined other Ardbegs for me, haha.

    I had been saving my Corryvreckan for that special occasion, but as they say (and as your video review suggests), Corryvreckan is that occasion. I had a first taste, and it just made me laugh, it was that good. I was pretty worried I would be disappointed, having been waiting for months to try it out. It's definitely the best Ardbeg I've had so far. Thank you for your video reviews, I love how they are straight to the point, while also showing your passion for a good dram.

    I've bought bottles of all the expressions, except the Corryreckan. I had only a 50 ml of that. I love Ardbeg peat, no medicinal notes for me. I would probably agree with your scoring as well. As far as AGED vs NAS bottles, I would disagree with you. I prefer age because the odds of a better whisky is in my favor. I've had to many NAS bottles that were to young or sharp and I'm personally looking for complexity. Yes I've had some decent NAS bottles and some aged bottles that were just ok. For the most part, I will stick with a nice aged whisky. Great review.

    found some 2013 Corry today and I think I am going back tomorrow to buy the other 2 they have left. Way better than newer Corry. Found a 2013 Nadurra 16 year as well that I had to buy. Stumbled into it at some terrible corner market liquor store that you would think it would never have stuff like this. That is probably why they still have them. Got Baker's 107 bourbon from 2014 also. They have some Taliskers also but I need to do some code homework to see when they are from but probably same era

    I have the 10, the Uigeadail and of course the Corryvreckan. Not the An Oa. Your review gives exactly my opinion. The Corry is fantastic. I am sure I will alway have a bottle near by. The 10 was my first contact with Ardbeg. Oh, no.. my first taste of Ardbeg was the Ardbeg Alligator. The best whisky I ever had. Very expensive special, over 300$ now. All Ardbegs have that 'Alligator touch' as I call it. The Corry comes close. Very close. Ardbegs are fantastic.

    Agreed. don't give a shit about bottle being NAS. All it matters is how it tastes.
    Hell, I even support NAS cause I think mixing older whiskeys with the younger ones can, potentially, make it even better.
    I believe Corryvreckan is so wonderful because it holds that punch/kick from the younger whiskeys.
    Of course, mixing older ones with younger ones does not always work, and there are tons of shitty NAS bottles out in the market.
    And it is true that there will always be greedy companies trying to cut down the cost and charge more with NAS bottles.
    However, If NAS helps some companies to produce tasty whiskey in constant volume (with right price of course), then why the hell not?
    If certain NAS whiskey does not live up to its price, then we can just leave it to rot in the shelf. that's all.
    Just as I won't be grabbing a bottle of An OA in the future. (An Oa isn't that bad, but would always pick 10, Uigeadail or Corryvreckan over it)
    And lastly, I truly agree that Correvreckan is just wonderful. It's one of the very best whiskeys i've ever tasted.

    Хороший обзор с мыслью, зачем платить больше? Согласен полностью, что возраст должен соответствовать $-качество.Можно найти и недорогие бутылки NAS главное качество!
    Но риски есть получить на финише сивушность и другие off ноты.

    Huuuuge fan of the Uigeadail (my favorite Ardbeg) here but I have to say that the Ardbeg 10 is in it's own class. There really isn't anything like it, other than Ardbeg 10. I haven't tried them all but quite a few through my whisk(e)y club.

      The short Answer to your Question is easy to reply because you should read my NOTES in the Base from Ardbeg TEN.
      Here we are:
      In a relaxed atmosphere with nice boys you don't say no. That's why I tested the TEN. But we never become friends! Fact.
      Nose

      Taste
      81
      Too smoky for me. Everything is covered by this kind of smoke. Endless smoke. Normally sweet with a little vanilla. Seasoning is formed when adding. But there is always smoke outside the window. I can't, sorry.
      Finish

      This ashy etc. "what do I know smoke" makes it long and very warm, but I will probably only get to know Ardbeg later on my whisky trip. Just a short sentence about this whisky that doesn't really suit me. For the time being, no more Ardbeg. Sorry.

  • @welshtoro3256
    @welshtoro3256 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good review of the core range. They are all good whiskies and it calls into question why the annual releases cost considerably more without any improvement in quality. You had to mention NAS so here's my 10 cents worth. The Ugi and Corry are good but not as good as they once were and that's because they taste noticeably younger. They're not as good but the price remains the same. The 10 year is a minimum age of 10 years and it will never get younger which is why it has remained consistently good. I have nothing against age statements but I do not expect to pay large sums of money for 5 year old whisky no matter how good it is. That's the whole purpose of an age statement. Of course it's what's in the bottle that matters but we are being ripped off by the industry by paying way over the odds for young whisky and I don't care if the master blender is a wizard using oak barrels from a ship wreck. NAS rant over. Sorry. My favourite is the 10 year for quality/value but I'm very fond of the others. Cheers Jeremy. WT

    • @SippersSocialClub
      @SippersSocialClub  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do agree with you. If the quality diminishes because of younger whisky being added then Ill take issue with that, and probably not buy the bottle ever again. So much whisky is available and I'm not brand loyal.

    • @welshtoro3256
      @welshtoro3256 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your prices always throw me, since they are way off from what we see here... Corryvrecken is $205 at LCBO... if it was actually under $100 I’d buy it all the time. Either way, gotta love Ardbeg! I’ll have to plan a trip to complete my core range collection.

    • @SippersSocialClub

    • @dylannorthrup5439

      Sippers Social Club yeah Balvenie is overpriced.. I haven’t bought it, but tried from a friend. My Ardbeg Uigedail I bought in Florida, but the price wasn’t nearly as low as you got.

    • @welshtoro3256
      @welshtoro3256 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesus, $205 is crazy. It's about £70 in the U.K. I don't wish to be disrespectful to Canada but state controlled alcohol outlets is so alien to most of the planet, especially the U.K. If that was attempted in the U.K and Ireland it would lead to unprecedented levels of organised crime.

    • @dylannorthrup5439
      @dylannorthrup5439 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welsh Toro it’s what they feel like they can get away with... it’s a monopoly, so who can argue? We do have an incredible selection at the LCBO, and most is reasonably priced, but a few bottles like these are strangely overpriced. I know the money goes to profit the government and help the community, but within reason... if they were all within $10 of each others like the US prices stated in the video, I would gladly buy them all.
