@@beatsbyjiro8291 Having had ours side-by-side, I think that’s a bit of a myth. If there were any difference, it would be a super-minor EQ adjustment. REV2 just has so many nice updates/improvements. My mate has written loads of great stuff on his P’08 and still does, so I would worry about doing that, rather than concerning oneself with any possible minor differences … 🤷🏻♂️
@@williampaivaoficial I actually upgraded mine to the rev 2.. never looked back :) I guess people will only realize what powerhouses these synths are long after they've been sold out ;)
I just bought a 2nd hand 08 PE desktop. £600 bargain, in new condition. But… The knobs aren’t the same, they’re horrible. Just ordered some nice replacements from Sequential. £70!
I've lusted over Rev2 despite it sounds a bit too large for it's own good - might be hard to fit into a mix. But it's expensive. Behringer Pro-800 might be cool - when it's released and first batch problems are ironed out. But suddenly, nicely priced, second hand 08 module appeared on sale at my home town.... Thanks for a great demo, very intriguing!
Maybe you should spend less money in a more basic subtractive synth. Prophets are more expensive than they should be. It’s a brand value. Behringer is putting out some really interesting synths for less money. If I had 1000 euros to spend I would get a Behringer Poly-D, MonoPoly or Ms-5 and save the rest of the money.
Yes, it is a good deal. If it is your first synth it may seem a little bit confusing at first, but check tutorials and the owner's manual to see how everything is interconnected.
@@williampaivaoficial thanks a lot, i own different synths as Juno 60, moog subphatty, mother 32, DFAM (complicated), lyra 8, etc. The thing is i’ve heard there is more than 20 modulation sources for more than 40 destinations. Is it a pain to program it that way ? Thanks
If you know how to program the synths you have you don't have to worry about the P08. The modulations are just like in any other synth: rate, amount, destination, etc. but you don't have to use them all. Depending on the type of sound you are programming, you won't use any modulation at all.
Besides being subtractive synths, they are quite different beasts. Prophet's oscillators are really something. They have more waveforms than the ones on the Deepmind. And they sound fantastic. On the other side, Behringer's Deepmind is a lot more full featured. It has a better arpeggiator, four fx slots with really good options of effects, a modulation matrix with more interesting source and modulation options and more. If I had to compare the Deepmind with another synth, it would be the Juno-106. They are a lot similar.
There are so many differences. I don't own a Rev2 but as far as I know, the Rev 2 is a Prophet 08 on steroids: there is a 16 voice version, the arpeggiator seems to be more useful than on Prophet 08 and I think the Rev 2 has built-in effects. Some might argue that the Prophet 08 sounds warmer, though.
@@williampaivaoficial The REV 2 seems better in every way, to me. The only thing I sometimes miss are the per-voice LEDs … but no big deal, and 16 of them would take up a lot of real estate, I guess!!
Great demo, thanks for the sounds! I love the pads that drone on until you play a different chord. Are you using the amp envelope, mod matrix, reverb, or something else to accomplish this? Just picked up the desktop and would appreciate any tips. Thanks again for the video!
Hi, there. There are several methods to sustain the pads. Most of the times I just press a sustain pedal. But I also crank up the amp release sometimes. The Prophet 8 also has a knob called VCA Level, that bypasses the VCA envelope and holds forever any notes you press, until it reaches the maximum polyphony.
Did you add any compression or EQ after recording into Ableton Live through the Focusrite Scarlett? I struggle to get my mix to sound as bright in the daw as it did when I was listening through the interface.
No, I did not. I just had to boost the level and did some automation to make some quieter parts louder. The recording level was between -12dB and -6dB and I added just a bit of reverb.
It is a quite simple sound. I think I used two saw waves, a LFO modulating both pitches of the oscillators, and an envelope closing filter's cut-off slowly. At some point I changed one of the oscillators to square. Maybe this second oscillator is tuned one octave below the first one.
@@williampaivaoficial thx for the reply!! also not to bother you but ive actually been wondering if its worth getting a prophet 08 for $1500 mint or a rev2 for $2050? And in the case of the rev2, could the sound i asked about be replicated on it?
I have no idea, since it depends on the country you live in. Here in Brazil used gear is often priced 10x the price asked for the same gear in US, for example. Rev2 is also a great synth. I've never had one, and some might say that the Prophet 08 has a warmer sound. On the other side, Rev2 has wavetable and built-in digital effects, I think.
It is just one saw wave going through the filter and an envelope shaping filter's cut-off. Then I add the second saw wave and detune them a little bit.
Hi! By he time I bought it the brand was called Dave Smith Instrument. Only recently they've managed to get the name Sequential back. It is 8 voices, indeed.
No. Not at all. Unless you get it for a very reasonable price. There are many other analog polyphonic synth with many more features (such as effects) for less money. And if your goal is learning synthesis, you can always begin with an app on your computer or mobile phone.
I’ve moved on. A guy offered a significant amount of money on it so I sold it. I have replaced it with the Deepmind, but I’ll get a Take 5 as soon as I can.
@@kierenmoore3236 I got a Deepmind 12, and while fun for a while, I sold it because the sounds just weren't as clean as the P08, and overall a less inspiring experience.
