    TRUTH!! These were hands down the most extravagant wedding favors I have ever seen!!! So what does that make me? Too harsh of a critic lol! I'm a detail girl, so I always want more and more and more details and to be blown away. BUT did these bakers come through on the colors, overall mood board aesthetic, YES!! Of course these always more that people can do to elevate things, but they did pretty darn well and I'm glad you guys can see it (and are calling me out for not giving ENOUGH credit where credit is due!) What did you guys love about all of them??

      I agreed with you I think they could have gone a lot further - but half hearted 🤷‍♀️ they had unlimited budget so why didn’t they go all out - I don’t think any of them quite did it right 🤷‍♀️

    • @amzmiq
      @amzmiq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +172

      I think you might be forgetting that they are thinking with the future in mind. Maybe you only ordered a few now, but if it turns into an order of 100 or more, they have to plan with that in mind. And they’re planning these things without knowing how they’ll be displayed, etc. All of those details matter for the planning. It would help if you made a version that fits your vision to put up against the rest of them.

    • @marleenholtkamp966

      You can be as critical as you want, it's your order and your channel! I would like to see though how you would fulfill this assignment yourself! You make these beautyfull creations.

    • @ruthlef
      @ruthlef 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yeah, I kind of came here to say that you were being SO critical. But I get it. You are a detail girl for sure. When you tell them "whatever you want that is this color and costs XX" you are giving them a lot more creative license than you are rating them for. HAHA I think the cakes were too big and also don't love the old style decor. All the others were pretty ON target in my opinion. The colors were so great with all of them. I love how much of a variety you got from all of them and as a bride you'd be able to choose one you love for sure!

    We have seen a number of these types of videos from The Icing Artist so far. What I would like her to do to elevate them would be: to present all of the samples and critique them like she does. Then I would like her to create what she actually wanted. Showing story boards of her vision is one thing. But having the Icing Artist, herself creating her vision and then critiquing it, would take it to the next level.

      People really need to explain their rating system. If I were doing this, I would assign 4 points on an ascending scale for poor, average, above average, and excellent, and assign a score to each characteristic, like flavor, creativity, execution, and any others that were important to me. Then I could compare the total points. If the final score didn't look right, I could disagree with my own assessment, but at least there would be a framework for the decision. Of course, there are many ways of scoring a project, but a generic sort of "feel-good, feel-bad" score isn't very helpful.

    • @endeeray4295
      @endeeray4295 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    This is one of my favorite series, however the critiques feel like they don't line up with your final "rating" most of the time. The mega mini cakes would be to take home for your own family to enjoy, so you said "go all out" and she did. They also had the best flavors but were only a 6/10 when you plain rated sugar cookies an 8.5/10?
    I don't think you really HAVE TO rate them, it's not usually accurate to the presented opinion and it totally throws me off.

    Not gonna lie Laurie, it still feels like you don't really know what you're asking for with this challenge. Each favor is either too big or too small or too decorated or not decorated enough - I feel like what you want from a wedding favor really depends on what you want your guests to be able to do with them. If I was handed a single sugar cookie piped to look like a leaf, for a wedding where the dinner plates were $100, I'd be pretty underwhelmed!! Of course, I'd never pay more that $10 per wedding favor either, but maybe I'm just cheap lol.

  • @Voldamorse
    @Voldamorse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +717

    The biggest part where she is failing to take into consideration is that she requested a sample box for luxury wedding favours. So the person who is making these is making them with the mindset that they may need to make 100+ of these favours. There is NO way you could get all the detail she's asking for at the price she's thinking. To Do extremely detailed favours like she wants for the volume of a typical wedding would easily run you over $100 per favour. Since she's a home baker, she's only thinking about the single set she's received. These professional bakers take into account not getting too detailed when you need to make so many sets and they need to look the same. Too much detail would inevitably result in minor shifts in the design. For me personally, I feel these videos where people buy items from others then shining a magnifying glass on any minor flaws to get views is in poor form.

    • @ciciamanda.
      @ciciamanda. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      and if youre a single baker who is expected to make 100+ favours then it would be impossible to make every single one extremely delicately detailed. Its not like the baker can just start earlier, baked goods go bad. One person only has 12 hours in a day, and its not like you can put piped cakes in the freezer.. so even if they were to split the piping up into two days, and work non stop for 12 hours each day, and there were only 100 favours to be made that still comes out at just about 15 minutes per cake. _Which isnt nearly enough for the intricacy she seems to expect_ Its just not doable, and as you said the bakers probably know the limitations and chose to make something that is actually possible to execute

    After watching your mood board part again, I could see how to donut artist got confused with what you wanted. 2 of the donut pictures in your inspiration had very minimal decor, and small dainty real flowers as the only topping. I think they thought they were hitting the mark. Same with the small cake- there was multiple pictures of cakes that size in your mood board.

    • @fontanna888
      @fontanna888 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      About the donuts - I think what kind of small flowers are used makes a huge difference. I looked at the moodbord again and it's hard to say what flowers the dried ones are, but since they're pretty much embedded into the donut, it's safe to assume they're edible. One I can recognise are pansies, and those are safe to eat.
      So no, sticking a bunch of poisonous flowers just for decoration isn't the same as actually using flowers as a part of the donut. I know your comment is pretty old, but this was something I wanted to point out 😅

    I really enjoy this channel, but I feel like this particular series is getting very nitpicky in a mean way. I would have so much anxiety about any orders I was putting out if I lived in Laurie's area. You're holding these bakeries to your very high standards while giving them vague instructions at best. Mood boards are open to interpretation, and if all you give them is a mood board and whatever budget they want, you have to accept that there is the possibility that they won't turn out a product that you personally are happy with. And while these places absolutely have the option to turn away whatever orders they want, turning away an order is turning away money, and many independent bakeries can't afford to do that, especially when you're given an open budget. I also think some of your critiques are... over the top. Like your criticism of the macaron packaging- of course the vibe of them would be different if you took of the little floral bundles. They were made to go together, if you remove part of it it is no longer going to look the same or have the same vibe. Like I said, I enjoy this channel, but frankly, the Karen vibes are getting strong.

      Aaron C Yeah but it’s one thing if you give someone clear concise and precise instructions or a specific picture on what to do. But when you give them a mood board with multiple colors and themes and give them free reign and no budget and then you complain about how a flower should’ve had more detail or one person used too many colors but another person used not enough colors or she wish that they would’ve put flavoring in the cookie, how would they know that without you telling them that they wanted that? You can’t tell someone to do whatever they want and not actually mean it.

    The mini cakes rating made me so mad. They were adorable. She said in the beginning that she chose a 'very specific' theme for the bakers, but I do not think making a basic mood board and picking the word 'extravagant' as a vibe is specific enough.
    It would make sense if she had made something extraordinary - up to her expectations - and then start with the criticism. But I've seen her works, the cakes she baked and they are all quite basic; tons of flowers around the sides. Even her flavours are not that impressive. And then she proceeds to judge others brutally.

My favorite thing about a wedding is the cake, so being able to have one at the table to look at, and share among the people at my table sounds amazing. The alternative is looking at the one large cake, but then you get sloppy slices of cake being passed around, or layed out for taking. It would be super fun, as a guest, to have a more personal experience with the cake lol. And, OMG, it would be so beautiful to have that be the ccenterpieces on the tables around the room.

What I would like to see is for The Icing Artist to provide feedback to the bakers and allow them another chance to modify the product.

    I actually think the third party favors were made that big on purpose. So each cake would be a party favor for every table, i believe they figured it would be cheaper to have 1 big party favor for each table then a small EXPENSIVE party favor for each guest. U see every table would sit about 4-6 people and every party favor cake that size could serve that many people plus the diversity of the cakes appearance melding eloquently with the theme is quite thought out; and the taste and appearance of the cakes would be a little teaser for the main event. Last but no least, what's cheaper... A $30 party favor that can be split 4-6 ways for each table($5-$7.50) or a single $20 favor for each individual person
    ($80-$120 a table)?

    A macaroon is a coconut and almond covered biscuit cookie, a macaron (mac-uh-ron) is the sandwich cookie in this video :) so many people confuse that so I felt it’s a nice little fact to include 😸 They’re two totally different cookies!

    These were super beautiful and unique!! I love these kind of videos, they always bring a smile to my face! Ona side note to bakers: If you want to decorate with fresh dainty white flowers, a beautiful and simple alternative to the ever popular baby's breath is sweet alyssum! It is edible and beautiful! It does have a little bit of a pepperiness to it, but that can be a fun flavor to play with!

    The mini cakes were absolutely what I would think of when someone mentions wedding favours. The cookies looked lovely and I liked how they were packaged, but I read that as more of a birthday or shower type of favour, and the truffles were absolutely beautiful, but they looked like something I would want served at the dessert table, not gifted to people as they leave. If you're going to have an edible wedding favour, I think you need a wow factor that won't just be gobbled up in minutes and forgotten, and individual cakes gives you that. They can even be personally curated to a degree, so that the needs of guests with allergies and intolerances are taken into account. 💖

    Al lot of people in the comments are saying that she’s too harsh, but we have to understand that these videos ask for her to be critical. If she were to just say “oh it’s great!” And move on to the next thing, she wouldn’t have a video. I really loved the video and would love to see another video with other bakeries doing wedding favors ❤️ They look amazing!

    I got married to my Italian husband in his hometown in Italy. Our wedding favors were 8ish oz bottles of limoncello, nocino (walnut liqueur) and a lemon verbena liqueur made by some nuns in the mountains. It was awesome and not very expensive. Not that everyone has access to convents and monasteries BUT they do (even in the US) support themselves off of the their goods. Soaps, coffee, candies, and other things. It might be something to look into. :)

    I feel like laurie was extra critical this video. I would have been amazed by most of these! Especially as a guest

      With that being said, I think it would be interesting to see Laurie make extravagant favors herself lol
