@@vinnyycent5925 I own one as well, has been unbelievably reliable and treats me well. These cars are kinda like e90/92’s, majority are clapped but if you find a good example it’ll be an amazing experience. The 2.7t is also in another league then the 4.2 when it comes to power and has way more aftermarket support. Lot more reliable and would be far better than this b6. I much prefer the idea of Turbos at 200k>timing chain at 180k if you’re lucky with an earlier iteration of the 4.2.
Really enjoying this series. Maybe becaue i own a b6 S4 also. Keep this series going. The B6 S4 has it's quirks, but they are really under appreciated. And, keep the 4.2.
My C5 Allroad shredded its belt, too. My tensioner was seized and the adjustment bolt was stripped. I ended up getting an auto-tensioner setup from JH Motorsports and it’s been solid ever since, and no more manual tensioner. I opted for the easier 5 rib setup, but they do have a 6 rib one, too. Love ALL your Audi content. Keep up the good work, Man. Your films are great, you’re becoming much more comfortable in front of the camera, and I really enjoy watching and listening to them. Edit: 30 seconds after I post this you state you’re already running one 😂
Hey so I notched my hood, on the inside....between the 2 windshield washer jets....as you drive heat gets pulled up out of the engine bay. Works great, and you can actually see the heat vapors, as its much hotter heat hitting the glass.
Ideally, you want the hood louvers to be closer to an area with low pressure. This creates a differential between the high pressure at the front of the car and the top of the hood and will extract hot air from the engine bay. The closer you get to the windshield, the higher the pressure, so it's not a great spot for vents.
I'm really surprised removing the oil cooler is a popular modification, especially for road course use, oil temps are normally something that are hard to keep in check. Love watching these builds progress.
His oil temps were cooking man, it seemed higher the second time at the track than the first. But from my exp with my c5 allroad instrument cluster, his oil was about 260 to 270. It looked a tick or 2 above the center.
the oil coolers on these cars actually circulate coolant through them as a "heat exchanger" which helps with warming up the oil faster on cold starts etc, but once the car is fully at operating temp and especially under stress, the coolant is already so hot before it enters the radiator that it has basically zero benefit for oil cooling, it can actually make things worse in certain situations.
If you continue to have the oil leak from the valve covers it could be due to the valve covers warping. Magnesium covers are known to do that. I’d try and find some plastic valve covers if you continue to have the oil leak
He wrapping headers ,when he have oil leak to it. Car goes burn from oil leaking. S4 B5 from germany have wrapped headers and car has burned. In Europ we use head shield better and lower temp in engine bay.
Awesome video man, please hold on to the S4 after all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into it! Thanks for the update video! P.S - I hear 034 has some sweet motor mounts! 😅
Im a fan! great content ! keep the S4 and would love to learn more , that engine pull is not easy and it looks like you are a master! I have a S4B6Avant ! so i feel the love and hate! but nothing beats the V8 sound !
I have an A4 Avant B7 FBO and for the life of me, I cannot convince myself to sell it. It is so much fun to drive, but I have 3 BMW in the driveway next to it.. It being a Manual is whyI cant let it go..
As an owner of a six-speed 1.8T B6 USP avant Quattro (what a mouthful), I think that one is in your future. 50/50 weight distribution because of the small engine and fat ass, a dead reliable engine with lots of room for power, and good looks is surely enough to be considered a good candidate. I have managed to get mine opposite lock in the rain, completely stock. Otherwise a B5 S4 seems like another obvious choice. Keep up the good work!
Longtime Audi & BMW V8 enthusiast here. These engines really benefit from a lower temperature thermostat, because the factory one is highly restrictive and only opens at around 105 Celsius. This gives the V8 absolutely zero thermal headroom, and thins the oil out significantly under sustained load. There are aftermarket low temp options for most BMW V8s, but not Audis, so I made my own for the B6/B7/B8 4.2s. Let me know if you'd like a how-to on how to make your own.
S.a.i pump makes sense to remove but you removed one of the 2 auxilary radiators which just circulates coolant not oil, put it back and remove the plastic connection pieces just before both of them(one on each side of the car) which is a thermostat, this will help your temps on the track, just replace them with equivalent brass plumbing pieces from the hardware store. Sweet b6 btw
Obviously it circulates coolant haha. It circulates coolant through the oil cooler on the engine block. It’s pretty common for people to remove that one and either loop it like I did or add an external oil cooler like the one jhm makes. I’ve seen the guys who run both AMTuned and Jackal recommend this.
Any Audi with a V style engine I have always put RTV/anaerobic sealant on the lower side of the head. If not they always leak no matter what gasket you use.
Shit, i been looking into getting one with the auto trans but damn im not ready for the maintenance on it. The V8 is just gonna have to escape and love on through you
I wonder if the valve cover is warped? I'm thinking of pickup up one of these ..... I'm familiar with Audi B5, C6 S cars and I know how shitty these cars are but they are fun when running.
The jhm tensioner is garbage. Many people have had issue with it throwing the belt. Put a new pulley on the stock tensioner, tension it properly and you won’t have any issues. That’s what I’ve done. Interesting that you had cooling issues. Mine has 100% original cooling system with no issues on 90° plus track days. I’m personally against removing the auxiliary radiator. Extra cooling is extra cooling, why get rid of it🤷♂️.
It's like getting an engineering undergraduate degree, hard asf, but if you survive you will be able to handle anything. How fast have you gotten at pulling the engine lol. All manual of course. Something about a loud car. To be financially irresponsible w the audis or settle for a shitbox looking vdub(i like them, most people dont)
Don't put 034 mounts back on, go back to OEM. I blew my 034 mounts in 1 year of driving. Many other B6 & B7 owners have blown theirs in a short amount of time as well
B6 ultrasport 1.8t 6 speed manual….. lots of room for improvement, packed aftermarket world way lighter engine with more potential to make more power for less money
