@@Zelaskoisntreal I would say thank goodness. That last shooting fight is too hard and useless. I mean, I'm playing Sonic so I'm looking for a specific gameplay, not for a generic space shooter. I tried it five times and then I gave up because I wasn't enjoying it at all. Talking of those "mini-games", even the pinball section imho is too hard and boring.
It might just seem like foreshadowing that the "hacking missions" match the true final boss, but if taken literally, it indicates that the ancients intentionally setup their firewall as a training exercise so that whoever inadvertently freed The End would have experience showing them how to beat it.
Sure, but the fact that you can ONLY fight The End on hard mode makes the final boss that more divisive. Most people will hate the ending because they played the game on Easy or Medium, therefore skipping the bullet hell and only getting QTEs as Super Sonic and nothing else. Those who played the game on Hard mode will find this confusing and frustrating, and those who played Medium or lower will miss out on a longer fight. It's not good game design.
@@hotel_arcadia My guess is that they had to make the fight like this due to time limitations, and knowing it would feel weird they restricted it to hard to make it feel more like a bonus.

Is there a theory what sort of an entity THE END is? Why it attacked the ancients’s homeworld and followed them to mobivious planet/planet earth and why it resambled a moon?
That line would have been even more epic if they actually had the other Titans fly with him and it not being a minigame boss. Wish they could have gotten more developmrnt time cuz after knight, the game got really boring
12:43 I seriously teared up in this moment. In the end, I didn't care too much about this boss battle to determine if it was good or bad. That shot of Super Sonic flying through the stars to destroy that thing was just... Beautiful.

While it's certainly not my ideal final boss I don't mind the Ikaruga anymore. My biggest disappointment is that Super Sonic has next to nothing to do. Ramming The End after that shot is literally the only thing he does, and Sage proceeds to do the exact same thing to finish it off anyway. The best way I can headcanon this is that he's in the back blocking all the lasers and projectiles to make sure they don't hit Earth, which makes sense since that's the first thing we see him do after the fight, but I still wish they showed him doing stuff during the fight itself like with Perfect Dark Gaia.
Frontiers has a lot of Dragon Ball in it. I don't remember if it was Iizuka Who said he likes Dragon Ball a lot and he actually copied the Saiyajin stuff with Super Sonic, some powers and all. This is way more noticeable with Shadow, Who essentially is Vegeta in terms of personality and he has the Chaos Spear ability, besides teleportation. In fact, many of the emotive and thrilling moments here in Frontiers reminded me of the typical episode of Dragon Ball Z or Super. Possible influences aside, This game has definitely the best story I remember in a Sonic title probably since Adventure 2.

God The End’s monologue along with “I’m With You” gave me such chills when I heard it the first time. Even though I find the final boss underwhelming gameplay wise, I was so in awe over this moment.
Even if this boss fight doesn't feel like it should belong in a sonic game, it still feels like a final boss, like with the music and the dialogue. It makes you want to beat this thing so badly
Of course it doesn't feel like it's a "sonic game boss" you're not playing as Sonic. That's the whole point, Sonic isn't enough to beat this thing and sometimes even a hero needs help. Then, even Supreme, that titan you had to spam so much to get on its knees is a one-hit wonder against this thing if you do a single mistake. It is Sage's descision and moment to shine, after being so neutral and wondering how caring for a friend feels, earlier in the game. And while Sonic's friends get the classic "day is saved, everything is good" ending, the real spotlight is how hard this moment hits on Eggman's side.
"Dear Father" made me cry, this game gave me a second reason to keep hoping for Sonic franchise. See they can make good games..........thank you Sonic team.
When the end credits rolled, I was just... Speechless. Thinking to myself, "Wow... That just happened..." I even felt my through closing up a bit. I haven't felt that level of emotion in ANY game since Sonic Unleashed. Wow.
I just realized each boss theme got more more and more surreal as the game went on. Ending with a rather calm emotional final theme rather than the usual high energy rock.
Nah. That was lazy imo. It was a Galaga boss. It wasn't even in the style of a sonic game. The story was so good that it pushed me to finish the game faster... but that ending boss was AWEFUL.
I Really hoped he would have at least gotten a minor role, heck she even mentioned she was once contained by people that created a new reality for her... sounds an awful lot like null space, could have ended it with infinite sealing both the end and himself in null space as a redemption ark of some sort

@@gumi2521 They straight up reference Dragon Ball in the boss kills. Giganto is killed exactly like King Piccolo, and Knight is killed exactly like Mecha Frieza by Trunks. I don't think they are afraid of referencing Dragon Ball.

The cutscenes look kinda unfinished tho. It's a shame they didn't make use of the cgi they used in their advertisements. I feel as though that those should've been prioritized for the game. Woulda made the experience a whole lot better
Imma be honest. I LOVE the story Ian Flynn is telling here. I just don't think he had enough time to tell it. I wanted to see a bit more development for Sage and Eggman, and Sonic and Sage. I wanted to see a few scenes where Sonic is saying vocally that he understands whats happening in the story. I wanted to see an ending where both Sonic AND Eggman mourn the loss of Sage and so Sonic can understand who exactly Sage was. Again, I dont mean to be nitpicky. I JUST finished the game and I am VERY satisfied with my experience. This game was AWESOME to play and experience. The story was GREAT, I just wish we had more time to see the storyTELLING.
He did a great job and I just think it was more of a grounds. Sage is coming back so we will be able to see more of their relationship develop. That man eggman sure has changed and I loved his character in this game. He doesn’t like sonic and everyone else but respect them and knows their strengths and weaknesses. Can’t wait to see more

12:33 there is something about this that just makes me tear with joy. Seeing sonic speed up through the stars, it feels like he has to go faster than he ever has before, the ray of hope that would with through the ends despair.

I was already having a good laugh with the EVA reference, but Ikaruga legit suprised me. Definitely the most unique final boss in a Sonic game that just gave me GameCube nostalgia.
One Way Dream playing with that ending cutscene is so beautifully done. With everyone discussing what’s next for them, and then the Tornado taking off into the sky. It’s a nice farewell from this adventure and onward and excited for the next.
One way Dream felt like it was made for that ending scene. The song plays right before the credits resume. This is unlike Vandalise which only plays once the credits resume, making the scene sound very dead
I never though I see Eggman showing some emotion at the end. The way he bonded with Sage like daughter and father is literally best and sweetest thing about him. I really hope SEGA makes a sequel to this game but this time making other characters like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, Espio, etc to be playable.
The way he goes back to revive sage and says “that’s my girl” man that emotion he showed. Definitely the best character in the game. I’m sure we will get a sequel. If not then we will definitely see sage again
It gets extra impact if you read the Egg memo's at big's fishing pond, the way he slowly warms up to her and proclaims himself as her father. Dosen't help that it is also voiced, too!

Personally I headcanon it as being another incarnation of The End. It refers to its moon-looking form as simply "this incarnation" and also says "no matter what form I take", suggesting its true nature is something beyond this and it has taken on multiple forms over the course of time.
@@InfiniteThePhantomJackal It might even be possible that other threats in the Sonic universe (Solaris for example) are related to The End in someway. Honestly, I would not be surprised if this wasn't the last time we hear about The End, might even be a recurring villain in future titles

I know this final boss is still proving to be divisive but I need to say one more time that, my god this is a fantastic final boss for me. It's tonally perfect with the combo of Sonic's speech, The End's monologue and that MUSIC, and I had tons of fun actually beating it.

A giant squid or whatever could be dangerous, but it'd still fundamentally look like an animal, something that can bleed and die. A giant honking moon/planet is just too big and solid to fight, it's the kind of thing that you can't hurt or truly kill. It's "solid", if that makes sense.

This is later confirmed by Kishimoto where it is stated that its true form has not been shown as it is what death is perceived as by the different characters. The fact that it's so shrouded in mystery is very intriguing. The name, it's dialogue. The countless worlds it destroyed. Super Sonic and Titan Sage barely stopping it. This not being its true form. What kind of enemy did we just face? It could very well have the potential to be the next main villain for the Sonic Universe. An actual Universal threat.
You know, I wonder if Sage is gonna be taking over Orbot and Cubot's role as Eggman's assistant (or at least MOSTLY take over) in future games. She's not incompetent like those two are, and Eggman actually cares enough about her to restore her after sacrificing herself to blow up The End.

Never have I felt so much yet so little emotion during a final boss fight. It isn’t as epic like finalhazard or dark Gaia but… even though I don’t really know who „the end“ is, i was so invested in it like never before. It is mesmerizing
Between it’s name and it’s monologue, it’s kinda self explanatory what The End is. It’s basically Entropy incarnate an Eldritch beast that destroys, stars and planets, the infinite dark void that all things return to.
From it being clear that this isn't the last we'll see of The End, to Eggman recovering Sage, and the further questions behind the Ancients and the chaos emeralds, I believe we're witnessing the start of a bigger, over-arching story for Sonic; one that's even more interconnected between games than ever before. We will see Sage again. We will take on The End again. And we will be ready.
Yep. We also still need to learn it's origins stories. What made it? Who made it? Was it even made by anyone? Are there more like it out there? Why did it target the Ancients
It's sad for Eggman being, this is probably one of the few times he cared about someone and specifically Sage being he thinks of her as her daughter and not exactly as a program at a certain point of the game. Now she's gone but Eggman is finally free but with a cost of realizing that he actually lost someone that he cared about.
"Please look after father" Hit me like a ton of Bricks. Seeing Eggman heartbroken was unexpected and that shattered my heart! Obviously the after credits him saying "That's my girl" just couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears
dude the pause where its basically a sigh and hoping that what he is doing works and you can hear how sad and relieved eggman sounds at the end when he manages to bring back sage that just feel like a redemption
If he couldn’t bring sage back I think he wouldn’t be the same. That’s the first time he was showing so much emotion. Now he gets to be the father and show his daughter how he felt. I just wonder how sage is gonna work into the main story now.
Man, I’ve never heard eggman sound so hurt, thank god sega decided to put the idw crew in charge So I finally beat THE END last night, and honestly it’s a perfect final boss for this game
Shame this is reserved for Hard Mode since on the other difficulties it's over as soon as it begins without even letting you hear The End's monologue. But still, the game is so fun regardless of which mode you're playing on and I hope to see more like this going forward in the games. Very happy Sage is apparently going to be a mainstay, Eggman having an AI daughter he genuinely cares for is a nice shake up to his lore after all these years.
I love this whole sequence from a presentation and story perspective. Sonic using all the power he can to stop The End from consuming all to avenge the Ancients when he could have easily ignored all of this and left for home right after escaping cyberspace. Sage finally deciding to do something for herself and joining forces with Sonic after finally becoming her own being with her own thoughts and feelings, sacrificing herself to stop The End from destroying the Earth in its death. Eggman finally coming to terms with seeing Sage as family and mourning the loss of his daughter when he realised what’s happened, only to get determined to save her and not let her truly die. I could go on. From a gameplay standpoint, I guess I might’ve set my expectations a bit high but I was a bit let down that the true final boss, the biggest and most threatening monster of the week we’ve faced so far, was just more of the bullet hell shoot-em-up sequences but long and with monologue. With how they had been building every fight up to be more climactic with each titan, I was thinking Sonic and Sage controlling Supreme would brawl with The End like in every game from Adventure to Unleashed. Sage providing backup cover with bullets and lasers while Sonic used all of his power to fight the beast head on, with his friends and the spirits of the Ancients cheering him on. That would have been an awesome spectacle and a great showcase of just how far the series had evolved from Sonic and Shadow fighting in space together to defeat a giant lizard with a space station up its butt, as well as paying off Sonic’s unconditional caring and trust to avenge the Ancients and Sage coming to terms with being her own person and not just code made real. I still really love this whole sequence and the game however. It’s my fault for getting my expectations for this part of the game up high anyways. Frontiers is super fun and genuinely a contender for my favourite Sonic game, right up there with Generations. I can only hope future games and content from the blue blur is as good as this one was, if not better. We’ve been stuck dealing with bad Sonic games for so long, we need more games with the quality of Frontiers to return the series to genuine respect and adoration from the general public.
I was not expecting the final boss to take the form of a moon, I was kind of expecting something a little humanoid shaped. But now I think about it feels a little more abstract and hard to define on how it is depicted. It kind of reminds me of Leviathan from Hellraiser 2 and The Nothing from The NeverEnding Story. Leviathan in Hellraiser was depicted as giant spinning diamond while The Nothing was depicted as a dark cloud consuming everything.
Well apparently The End can change it's appearance based on how people think death looks like. So in this case it's a dark moon, it's true form is unknown!

When this thing said "I am Infinite," that almost felt like a VERY direct shot at Sonic Forces' Infinite. I mean, it definitely sounded more believable coming from The End; I definitely felt my heart stop at that moment!
To be fair she was one of the popular elements of Sonic Boom thanks to the cartoon so if they were going to keep anything from that era be glad it was her.

I don't know why the final battle is so emotional for me, it could be the music, The End's fatalistic speech or what the fight represents but for me this is one of the best final bosses in Sonic history, despite the fact that objectively it is not as epic as the rest of Super Sonic's battles
I know right, I love the ending so much and I think a big reason is the music. It still felt so grand and left me satisfied so I was surprised at how many people didn't like it. I definitely feel like this game took a lot of inspiration from Nier Automata too, which is one of my favourite games.
It might not have been a perfect reconstruction. We don't know if she'll still be able to form a physical body, or if she'll be stuck inside the computer after being restored.
Well, what I think happened was since cyberspace stores pretty much EVERYTHING maybe some of her code was in cyberspace that it could restore her to Eggman's computer.
Judging by the Sonic Channel illustration showing Sage having shoes… It might be possible Robotnik is indeed, reconstructing Sage. Who knows what actually happens?
So...the final boss of the latest Sonic game is literally the concept of entropy given physical form. This thing is literally the Anti-God. This thing could eat Solaris for breakfast. Literally. It's a devourer of gods and celestial empires alike. And given how it seemed only mildly perturbed by Sonic during the whole final fight...*it's not fully defeated yet*. Whatever The End is...we haven't seen the last of it.
i hope so honestly in terms of the fight itself in it's true form? it doesn't seem that difficult and design wise i think more could have been done like some sort of Lovecraftian elder god design instead of just a purple moon
Man this really should’ve still been a boss. That speech from the end is just too good. Best speech done a final boss in sonic. Could’ve combined both bosses from update 3. I feel like for the sage sacrifice, it fits her much more thematically being an AI growing to have and understand human connection. Whether they killed her off in the ending or not, I think they should’ve just kept it as is. She would’ve been back anyways. What they could’ve done is have sonic and everyone else check up on eggman like sage had pleaded for. Now that would’ve been a hit and for me and hit more than both endings together.
I'm glad I looked this up after I beat the game in normal. This was a much better version than just QTE on normal. Even though it was a different fight compared to the others it still didn't change the epic feel of the boss battle. Galtica players probably aced this fight. Also, hard gets us freaking Natewantstobattle! That is a huge plus in itself!
despite the fact this boss battle was underwhelming gameplay wise, Story wise, this was the most impactful ending by far. this is the Story telling i missed for years! the long awaited Growth of familiar and new characters. and the music tho. Frontiers is amazing. i wish i can see more growth from here on out
Gonna be honest, whilst the rest of the game was great, I kinda found this final boss disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I love the music, and I love the story and writing behind it, I just wish that we got a proper boss like we did with the titans, maybe something like Solaris from 06 where you fly around it trying to find opportunities to attack as Super Sonic, but meh, can't win them all, I suppose. Apart from that though, I loved this game. It was definitely one of the best Sonic games I've played in a long time, definitely up there with Generations, Adventure 2, and Unleashed. It was a blast to play this game.
agree heavily, final boss sucked ass for me though rather than just being kinda disappointing. in my playthrough i thought we were gonna get an epic super sonic/gaia colossus type final boss like unleashed had, this was really wack honestly
@@gggsh7 perhaps they peaked too early with the first boss. I agree though, I didn't hate it but I expected more. That R2 + X move where sonic throws crosses is too broken and it destroys Supreme to quickly for how easy it is to pull off. Only need to do it 2-3 times and the damage is mad. As for "The End", I think they could have kept the Nier hacking mini game style gameplay, but perhaps mixed it up with phases. Like Sage has to break the bosses defences in the bullet hell section, then when she makes an opening Sonic could fly in with a SA2 or Sonic Generations style pursuit execpt you get to use your combos like you did with Supreme moments ago. It'd be a tag team type fight that mirrors the gimmick of the sonic 06 Solaris fight. You'd just switch back to Sage if sonic can't attack anymore or switch to Sonic if Sage does enough work. I'm no game developer, that's just my take on it to make it more engaging. The fight itself felt like it overstayed it's welcome.
@@RoseLraye27 you know they originally planned the bossfights to be something much much more worth it since when you start the the bossfight it says work with the titans to defeat the end meaning the devs definitley had a banger bossfight coming up but due to SEGA's time constraints they weren't able to finish it.
I only just now realized that Sage throwing Super Sonic at The End in the final part to the fight is a callback to how Giganto threw Sonic at the beginning of the game.
The End mentioned something about their captors being able to “burn their souls” and “bend time and space” to keep this entity who redeems itself as “infinite than machines and gods (like Solaris/Dark Gaia/Time Eater)” being captured. Whoever forced The End into captivity in the first place might be basically the strongest characters in the Sonic franchise. I’m assuming THEY were… the Chaos Wizards.
The thing is, while it does reference being greater than the machines and gods Sonic fought previously, it found out about them from Sonic's memories, meaning that Solaris isn't part of the comparison as Sonic doesn't remember Solaris due to 06 erasing itself from the timeline, and as Solaris literally ate the universe upon waking up, its reasonable to consider it more powerful than The End, which just seems to have destroyed planets and stars
It's funny, because I create a Sonic OC who is wizard cat. He was teached that many years ago the seven sages found the seven Chaos Emeralds and each one learn their powers. Because they used Chaos Emeralds their bodies devoured part of this power and sages becomes first wizards. Their power passed down from generation to generation and even without Chaos Emeralds they can cast spells, but with Chaos Emeralds their spells are powerfull and they can even do more.

Also for Crisis City, I assumed its presence was a case of the Time Eater kinda existing outside of time, and due to that it was able to temporarily restore that timeline. Either way, The End still doesn't appear to be anywhere near the level of Solaris as consuming the entire universe throughout time in a moment still seems significantly more powerful than anything we've seen from The End
Literally spent one hour trying to beat that bullet hell earlier today. Glad it's finally done. Really loved the game, its story, its gameplay and the characters' developments (really felt it when Eggman called Sage his "dear daughter"). Man, I just hope this game will finally set a line for Sega to follow for future Sonic games.
Just finished the game and I’m so satisfied with how everything played out. I can tell Flynn wanted to make a huge story with this game but was cut short most likely to logistics. I would’ve really loved to see more interactions with Sonic, Sage, and Eggman and their goals on the Starfall islands because if I can be honest, the ending wasn’t as impactful as I was hoping, and that’s largely attributed to not having enough time with Sage to truly connect with her, one of the important components of storytelling. Of course I was still pretty sad over Sage’s sacrifice but given if she had more time to properly develop her arc it could’ve easily been on par with Shadow in SA2. Sonic, Amy, Knuckles, and Tails were handled extremely well though, genuinely couldn’t have been better. I think Eggman could’ve used some more cutscenes as well because like Sage, he lacks time to properly develop his intentions and relationship with Sage. It kinda comes outta nowhere at the later half of the game and is the only part of the game where Eggman actually contributes directly to the story, which is literally just him handing Sonic the last chaos emerald and telling him to beat up the Titan, which makes me feel like he was handed the short end of the stick in Frontiers. That’s not to say that Eggman or Sage were written badly, far from it, but simply having more time could’ve made it beyond great. Again, I really loved this game and it’s revived my faith in Sonic as a franchise, but if the game allowed more time for the narrative to develop naturally then it could’ve easily been next to SA2 writing wise.
It's not exactly what you're asking for, but there are items you can get from fishing game that go further in depth into Eggman's character in the game if you haven't gotten them. I'd have loved if they were cutscenes, but audio recordings are better than nothing, I guess.
I agree that the story lack some depth, when I saw that Eggman was calling Sage her daughter, I felt some story arc was missing or whatever. Also I felt nothing during Sage sacrifice. If only the story was just a little more full, had a little more content, it would have worked on me.

After The Final Horizon I can say a few things -I could say this is the canon final boss, meanwhile Final Horizon felt like a "What if...?", of course I don't say it's a bad ending, I considered that one more beautiful, however this felt more emotional (thanks to the soundtrack magic as always in a Sonic game) And I cherish this final boss a bit more than Final Horizon's for a sentimental value (I was finishing college a year ago and I'm with you was the soundtrack I used to hear back then).
If Sonic had more to do in this fight, I feel like I'd have a really hard time picking which ending I prefer. This one has a much better atmosphere mostly due to The End's monologue and I'm With You instrumental. For everything Final Horizon's ending does right, it is a shame to lose both of those.
Just like No Big Deal playing (granted which version as we have the song the girls sing, the music named Anne's Power, a cover that was later used in the season 3 trailer,.and the grand hurrah version) I can see fans of both making a fun fan video edit with "I'm Here" playing when the girls in full Calamity forms fighting the Moon Core or Anne in Full Gem Power Form blasting the moon apart with that music. I can also see video editing mixes with Anne blasting and shooting straight though like Sonic did here with same results. Two big bads that considered themselves god's and was going to end all taken down with a ultimate sacrifice for others attack.
I like how supreme and the end are now canonically the strongest enemies sonic has faced because of how many hits both took from super sonic before they were defeated
Considering that it took Super Sonic to take out the titans and that Sonic had to become Super Sonic multiple times throughout the game, the reasons you stated definitely proves just how powerful this group of enemies he faced are. Even then, The End isn't actually dead. He just defeated just one of many incarnations of it and that was with Sage's help.
I know the end boss fight was boring but I really loved the music and emotion behind it. It felt like the end but hopeful beginning. It's crazy how music can give those vibes
This was my first Sonic game, and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed every bit of it, from running on the islands to taking on the Titans to the very end, even though I didn't really face the final boss. But it was awesome. Thank you, SEGA!!!
Why aren't there more people questioning why we got a bullet hell for a final boss in a Sonic game. @@Zelaskoisntreal I would say thank goodness. That last shooting fight is too hard and useless. I mean, I'm playing Sonic so I'm looking for a specific gameplay, not for a generic space shooter. I tried it five times and then I gave up because I wasn't enjoying it at all. Talking of those "mini-games", even the pinball section imho is too hard and boring.

It might just seem like foreshadowing that the "hacking missions" match the true final boss, but if taken literally, it indicates that the ancients intentionally setup their firewall as a training exercise so that whoever inadvertently freed The End would have experience showing them how to beat it.

Sure, but the fact that you can ONLY fight The End on hard mode makes the final boss that more divisive. Most people will hate the ending because they played the game on Easy or Medium, therefore skipping the bullet hell and only getting QTEs as Super Sonic and nothing else. Those who played the game on Hard mode will find this confusing and frustrating, and those who played Medium or lower will miss out on a longer fight. It's not good game design.

While it's certainly not my ideal final boss I don't mind the Ikaruga anymore. My biggest disappointment is that Super Sonic has next to nothing to do. Ramming The End after that shot is literally the only thing he does, and Sage proceeds to do the exact same thing to finish it off anyway. The best way I can headcanon this is that he's in the back blocking all the lasers and projectiles to make sure they don't hit Earth, which makes sense since that's the first thing we see him do after the fight, but I still wish they showed him doing stuff during the fight itself like with Perfect Dark Gaia.
Frontiers has a lot of Dragon Ball in it. I don't remember if it was Iizuka Who said he likes Dragon Ball a lot and he actually copied the Saiyajin stuff with Super Sonic, some powers and all. This is way more noticeable with Shadow, Who essentially is Vegeta in terms of personality and he has the Chaos Spear ability, besides teleportation. In fact, many of the emotive and thrilling moments here in Frontiers reminded me of the typical episode of Dragon Ball Z or Super. Possible influences aside, This game has definitely the best story I remember in a Sonic title probably since Adventure 2.

God The End’s monologue along with “I’m With You” gave me such chills when I heard it the first time. Even though I find the final boss underwhelming gameplay wise, I was so in awe over this moment.

Of course it doesn't feel like it's a "sonic game boss" you're not playing as Sonic. That's the whole point, Sonic isn't enough to beat this thing and sometimes even a hero needs help. Then, even Supreme, that titan you had to spam so much to get on its knees is a one-hit wonder against this thing if you do a single mistake. It is Sage's descision and moment to shine, after being so neutral and wondering how caring for a friend feels, earlier in the game. And while Sonic's friends get the classic "day is saved, everything is good" ending, the real spotlight is how hard this moment hits on Eggman's side.
"Dear Father" made me cry, this game gave me a second reason to keep hoping for Sonic franchise. See they can make good games..........thank you Sonic team.
When the end credits rolled, I was just... Speechless. Thinking to myself, "Wow... That just happened..." I even felt my through closing up a bit. I haven't felt that level of emotion in ANY game since Sonic Unleashed. Wow.

Imma be honest. I LOVE the story Ian Flynn is telling here. I just don't think he had enough time to tell it. I wanted to see a bit more development for Sage and Eggman, and Sonic and Sage. I wanted to see a few scenes where Sonic is saying vocally that he understands whats happening in the story. I wanted to see an ending where both Sonic AND Eggman mourn the loss of Sage and so Sonic can understand who exactly Sage was.
Again, I dont mean to be nitpicky. I JUST finished the game and I am VERY satisfied with my experience. This game was AWESOME to play and experience. The story was GREAT, I just wish we had more time to see the storyTELLING.
Sage is coming back, there is a post credit scene where Eggman revives Sage in the Eggnet
He did a great job and I just think it was more of a grounds. Sage is coming back so we will be able to see more of their relationship develop. That man eggman sure has changed and I loved his character in this game. He doesn’t like sonic and everyone else but respect them and knows their strengths and weaknesses. Can’t wait to see more

One Way Dream playing with that ending cutscene is so beautifully done. With everyone discussing what’s next for them, and then the Tornado taking off into the sky. It’s a nice farewell from this adventure and onward and excited for the next.

I never though I see Eggman showing some emotion at the end. The way he bonded with Sage like daughter and father is literally best and sweetest thing about him.
I really hope SEGA makes a sequel to this game but this time making other characters like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, Espio, etc to be playable.
The way he goes back to revive sage and says “that’s my girl” man that emotion he showed. Definitely the best character in the game. I’m sure we will get a sequel. If not then we will definitely see sage again
It gets extra impact if you read the Egg memo's at big's fishing pond, the way he slowly warms up to her and proclaims himself as her father.

I kinda like the headcanon that the Phantom Ruby was a piece of the End that somehow got separated from the main body.
Personally I headcanon it as being another incarnation of The End. It refers to its moon-looking form as simply "this incarnation" and also says "no matter what form I take", suggesting its true nature is something beyond this and it has taken on multiple forms over the course of time.

I know this final boss is still proving to be divisive but I need to say one more time that, my god this is a fantastic final boss for me. It's tonally perfect with the combo of Sonic's speech, The End's monologue and that MUSIC, and I had tons of fun actually beating it.
i think more could have been done design wise like maybe it could have looked like some sort of lovecraftian elder god instead of just a purple moon

A giant squid or whatever could be dangerous, but it'd still fundamentally look like an animal, something that can bleed and die. A giant honking moon/planet is just too big and solid to fight, it's the kind of thing that you can't hurt or truly kill. It's "solid", if that makes sense.

This is later confirmed by Kishimoto where it is stated that its true form has not been shown as it is what death is perceived as by the different characters.

The fact that it's so shrouded in mystery is very intriguing. The name, it's dialogue. The countless worlds it destroyed. Super Sonic and Titan Sage barely stopping it. This not being its true form. What kind of enemy did we just face? It could very well have the potential to be the next main villain for the Sonic Universe. An actual Universal threat.
The september update will add the epic boss this is just a amazing story boss + a nice skill check
You know, I wonder if Sage is gonna be taking over Orbot and Cubot's role as Eggman's assistant (or at least MOSTLY take over) in future games. She's not incompetent like those two are, and Eggman actually cares enough about her to restore her after sacrificing herself to blow up The End.

Between it’s name and it’s monologue, it’s kinda self explanatory what The End is. It’s basically Entropy incarnate an Eldritch beast that destroys, stars and planets, the infinite dark void that all things return to.

We will see Sage again. We will take on The End again. And we will be ready.

It's sad for Eggman being, this is probably one of the few times he cared about someone and specifically Sage being he thinks of her as her daughter and not exactly as a program at a certain point of the game. Now she's gone but Eggman is finally free but with a cost of realizing that he actually lost someone that he cared about.

"Please look after father" Hit me like a ton of Bricks. Seeing Eggman heartbroken was unexpected and that shattered my heart! Obviously the after credits him saying "That's my girl" just couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears
dude the pause where its basically a sigh and hoping that what he is doing works and you can hear how sad and relieved eggman sounds at the end when he manages to bring back sage that just feel like a redemption

Shame this is reserved for Hard Mode since on the other difficulties it's over as soon as it begins without even letting you hear The End's monologue. But still, the game is so fun regardless of which mode you're playing on and I hope to see more like this going forward in the games.
Very happy Sage is apparently going to be a mainstay, Eggman having an AI daughter he genuinely cares for is a nice shake up to his lore after all these years.
Oh! I thought my game was glitched. Didn't realize this was locked behind hard mode. I was wondering why the final boss felt so anticlimactic.

I love this whole sequence from a presentation and story perspective. Sonic using all the power he can to stop The End from consuming all to avenge the Ancients when he could have easily ignored all of this and left for home right after escaping cyberspace. Sage finally deciding to do something for herself and joining forces with Sonic after finally becoming her own being with her own thoughts and feelings, sacrificing herself to stop The End from destroying the Earth in its death. Eggman finally coming to terms with seeing Sage as family and mourning the loss of his daughter when he realised what’s happened, only to get determined to save her and not let her truly die. I could go on.
From a gameplay standpoint, I guess I might’ve set my expectations a bit high but I was a bit let down that the true final boss, the biggest and most threatening monster of the week we’ve faced so far, was just more of the bullet hell shoot-em-up sequences but long and with monologue. With how they had been building every fight up to be more climactic with each titan, I was thinking Sonic and Sage controlling Supreme would brawl with The End like in every game from Adventure to Unleashed. Sage providing backup cover with bullets and lasers while Sonic used all of his power to fight the beast head on, with his friends and the spirits of the Ancients cheering him on. That would have been an awesome spectacle and a great showcase of just how far the series had evolved from Sonic and Shadow fighting in space together to defeat a giant lizard with a space station up its butt, as well as paying off Sonic’s unconditional caring and trust to avenge the Ancients and Sage coming to terms with being her own person and not just code made real.
I still really love this whole sequence and the game however. It’s my fault for getting my expectations for this part of the game up high anyways. Frontiers is super fun and genuinely a contender for my favourite Sonic game, right up there with Generations. I can only hope future games and content from the blue blur is as good as this one was, if not better. We’ve been stuck dealing with bad Sonic games for so long, we need more games with the quality of Frontiers to return the series to genuine respect and adoration from the general public.
I was not expecting the final boss to take the form of a moon, I was kind of expecting something a little humanoid shaped. But now I think about it feels a little more abstract and hard to define on how it is depicted. It kind of reminds me of Leviathan from Hellraiser 2 and The Nothing from The NeverEnding Story. Leviathan in Hellraiser was depicted as giant spinning diamond while The Nothing was depicted as a dark cloud consuming everything.
Well apparently The End can change it's appearance based on how people think death looks like. So in this case it's a dark moon, it's true form is unknown!

When this thing said "I am Infinite," that almost felt like a VERY direct shot at Sonic Forces' Infinite. I mean, it definitely sounded more believable coming from The End; I definitely felt my heart stop at that moment!

It is emotional how it goes. Even how the others will do to their growth
I don't know why the final battle is so emotional for me, it could be the music, The End's fatalistic speech or what the fight represents but for me this is one of the best final bosses in Sonic history, despite the fact that objectively it is not as epic as the rest of Super Sonic's battles
I feel that honor still goes to Dark Gaia. But yeah, The End was a crazy finale, definitely Shonin inspired.
I know right, I love the ending so much and I think a big reason is the music. It still felt so grand and left me satisfied so I was surprised at how many people didn't like it. I definitely feel like this game took a lot of inspiration from Nier Automata too, which is one of my favourite games.

It might not have been a perfect reconstruction. We don't know if she'll still be able to form a physical body, or if she'll be stuck inside the computer after being restored.

Well, what I think happened was since cyberspace stores pretty much EVERYTHING maybe some of her code was in cyberspace that it could restore her to Eggman's computer.
Judging by the Sonic Channel illustration showing Sage having shoes… It might be possible Robotnik is indeed, reconstructing Sage. Who knows what actually happens?
So...the final boss of the latest Sonic game is literally the concept of entropy given physical form. This thing is literally the Anti-God. This thing could eat Solaris for breakfast. Literally. It's a devourer of gods and celestial empires alike. And given how it seemed only mildly perturbed by Sonic during the whole final fight...*it's not fully defeated yet*.
Whatever The End is...we haven't seen the last of it.

I feel like for the sage sacrifice, it fits her much more thematically being an AI growing to have and understand human connection. Whether they killed her off in the ending or not, I think they should’ve just kept it as is. She would’ve been back anyways. What they could’ve done is have sonic and everyone else check up on eggman like sage had pleaded for. Now that would’ve been a hit and for me and hit more than both endings together.
tbh, update 3's final boss is better mechanically. But the og's final boss is better thematically
I'm glad I looked this up after I beat the game in normal. This was a much better version than just QTE on normal. Even though it was a different fight compared to the others it still didn't change the epic feel of the boss battle. Galtica players probably aced this fight. Also, hard gets us freaking Natewantstobattle! That is a huge plus in itself!

despite the fact this boss battle was underwhelming gameplay wise, Story wise, this was the most impactful ending by far. this is the Story telling i missed for years! the long awaited Growth of familiar and new characters. and the music tho. Frontiers is amazing. i wish i can see more growth from here on out

Gonna be honest, whilst the rest of the game was great, I kinda found this final boss disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I love the music, and I love the story and writing behind it, I just wish that we got a proper boss like we did with the titans, maybe something like Solaris from 06 where you fly around it trying to find opportunities to attack as Super Sonic, but meh, can't win them all, I suppose. Apart from that though, I loved this game. It was definitely one of the best Sonic games I've played in a long time, definitely up there with Generations, Adventure 2, and Unleashed. It was a blast to play this game.

I agree though, I didn't hate it but I expected more. That R2 + X move where sonic throws crosses is too broken and it destroys Supreme to quickly for how easy it is to pull off. Only need to do it 2-3 times and the damage is mad.
As for "The End", I think they could have kept the Nier hacking mini game style gameplay, but perhaps mixed it up with phases. Like Sage has to break the bosses defences in the bullet hell section, then when she makes an opening Sonic could fly in with a SA2 or Sonic Generations style pursuit execpt you get to use your combos like you did with Supreme moments ago. It'd be a tag team type fight that mirrors the gimmick of the sonic 06 Solaris fight. You'd just switch back to Sage if sonic can't attack anymore or switch to Sonic if Sage does enough work.
I'm no game developer, that's just my take on it to make it more engaging. The fight itself felt like it overstayed it's welcome.
@@RoseLraye27 you know they originally planned the bossfights to be something much much more worth it since when you start the the bossfight it says work with the titans to defeat the end meaning the devs definitley had a banger bossfight coming up but due to SEGA's time constraints they weren't able to finish it.
The most wonderful thing is that the music also changes from "Dear Father" to "I'm With You" in the credits.
I was gonna cry if sage died, but since Eggman brought her back gave me such a relief I did not want to feel the same way with Cosmo...

The End mentioned something about their captors being able to “burn their souls” and “bend time and space” to keep this entity who redeems itself as “infinite than machines and gods (like Solaris/Dark Gaia/Time Eater)” being captured. Whoever forced The End into captivity in the first place might be basically the strongest characters in the Sonic franchise. I’m assuming THEY were… the Chaos Wizards.
The thing is, while it does reference being greater than the machines and gods Sonic fought previously, it found out about them from Sonic's memories, meaning that Solaris isn't part of the comparison as Sonic doesn't remember Solaris due to 06 erasing itself from the timeline, and as Solaris literally ate the universe upon waking up, its reasonable to consider it more powerful than The End, which just seems to have destroyed planets and stars
It's funny, because I create a Sonic OC who is wizard cat. He was teached that many years ago the seven sages found the seven Chaos Emeralds and each one learn their powers. Because they used Chaos Emeralds their bodies devoured part of this power and sages becomes first wizards. Their power passed down from generation to generation and even without Chaos Emeralds they can cast spells, but with Chaos Emeralds their spells are powerfull and they can even do more.

Also for Crisis City, I assumed its presence was a case of the Time Eater kinda existing outside of time, and due to that it was able to temporarily restore that timeline. Either way, The End still doesn't appear to be anywhere near the level of Solaris as consuming the entire universe throughout time in a moment still seems significantly more powerful than anything we've seen from The End
Literally spent one hour trying to beat that bullet hell earlier today. Glad it's finally done. Really loved the game, its story, its gameplay and the characters' developments (really felt it when Eggman called Sage his "dear daughter").
Man, I just hope this game will finally set a line for Sega to follow for future Sonic games.
Just finished the game and I’m so satisfied with how everything played out. I can tell Flynn wanted to make a huge story with this game but was cut short most likely to logistics. I would’ve really loved to see more interactions with Sonic, Sage, and Eggman and their goals on the Starfall islands because if I can be honest, the ending wasn’t as impactful as I was hoping, and that’s largely attributed to not having enough time with Sage to truly connect with her, one of the important components of storytelling. Of course I was still pretty sad over Sage’s sacrifice but given if she had more time to properly develop her arc it could’ve easily been on par with Shadow in SA2.
Sonic, Amy, Knuckles, and Tails were handled extremely well though, genuinely couldn’t have been better.
I think Eggman could’ve used some more cutscenes as well because like Sage, he lacks time to properly develop his intentions and relationship with Sage. It kinda comes outta nowhere at the later half of the game and is the only part of the game where Eggman actually contributes directly to the story, which is literally just him handing Sonic the last chaos emerald and telling him to beat up the Titan, which makes me feel like he was handed the short end of the stick in Frontiers. That’s not to say that Eggman or Sage were written badly, far from it, but simply having more time could’ve made it beyond great.
Again, I really loved this game and it’s revived my faith in Sonic as a franchise, but if the game allowed more time for the narrative to develop naturally then it could’ve easily been next to SA2 writing wise.
It's not exactly what you're asking for, but there are items you can get from fishing game that go further in depth into Eggman's character in the game if you haven't gotten them. I'd have loved if they were cutscenes, but audio recordings are better than nothing, I guess.

After The Final Horizon I can say a few things
-I could say this is the canon final boss, meanwhile Final Horizon felt like a "What if...?", of course I don't say it's a bad ending, I considered that one more beautiful, however this felt more emotional (thanks to the soundtrack magic as always in a Sonic game)
And I cherish this final boss a bit more than Final Horizon's for a sentimental value (I was finishing college a year ago and I'm with you was the soundtrack I used to hear back then).
If Sonic had more to do in this fight, I feel like I'd have a really hard time picking which ending I prefer. This one has a much better atmosphere mostly due to The End's monologue and I'm With You instrumental. For everything Final Horizon's ending does right, it is a shame to lose both of those.

Just like No Big Deal playing (granted which version as we have the song the girls sing, the music named Anne's Power, a cover that was later used in the season 3 trailer,.and the grand hurrah version) I can see fans of both making a fun fan video edit with "I'm Here" playing when the girls in full Calamity forms fighting the Moon Core or Anne in Full Gem Power Form blasting the moon apart with that music. I can also see video editing mixes with Anne blasting and shooting straight though like Sonic did here with same results.
Two big bads that considered themselves god's and was going to end all taken down with a ultimate sacrifice for others attack.

I like how supreme and the end are now canonically the strongest enemies sonic has faced because of how many hits both took from super sonic before they were defeated
Considering that it took Super Sonic to take out the titans and that Sonic had to become Super Sonic multiple times throughout the game, the reasons you stated definitely proves just how powerful this group of enemies he faced are. Even then, The End isn't actually dead. He just defeated just one of many incarnations of it and that was with Sage's help.

I know the end boss fight was boring but I really loved the music and emotion behind it. It felt like the end but hopeful beginning. It's crazy how music can give those vibes

This was my first Sonic game, and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed every bit of it, from running on the islands to taking on the Titans to the very end, even though I didn't really face the final boss. But it was awesome. Thank you, SEGA!!!
