So that concludes the Sonic Prime content I have for this channel. It has been a fun ride, and the series is pretty good. Steamboat Willie animation coming soon.

The funny thing is that fans thought at first the possibility of Shadow being Sonic's brother because he's physically identical to him and in other adaptations they confused Shadow with Sonic.
Even Nine thought they were twins 😂
This Shadow is fleshed out. He is surely grumpy, awkward around strangers, pessimistic and all. But he can also be a loyal friend, sometimes a pain in the ass in the wrong moment. He can also be funny at times.
That's how Shadow was originally characterized. Unfortunately some time after Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Sega's mandates basically turned him into Vegeta. So this is really just Shadow being written back to formula.

It’s funny, because I’m that kind of person and my friends and siblins tends to be more the Sonic type, so I could feel related with him instead of just thinking: oh, great, this edgy mf again.
What I mean is, he feels more like a person than an edgy cartoon that is there to be edgy and cool

Although he came across as mysterious and isolated, he does care about and appreciates his friends, and despite everything, he still does have respect for Sonic and shows concern for his well-being, and fights to keep a promise he made to someone he cared about.
From the 2010s, Shadow basically becomes an emo edge lord parody of himself. Not caring about anyone and just being a dark, brooding loner.
Sonic Prime, for all its faults, has the best writing for Shadow in years, and has him go back to that mysterious hedgehog who has a deep rooted respect for Sonic, and also his distrust for Sonic at the start is actually justified. He even has moments of snark and sarcasm, which is appreciated.

The animation studio is called Wildbrain, they also animated for Ninjago, and in the seasons you can see how the animation quality progressed to this

7:30 Something about this part makes you really see a different side of Shadow. His eyes shrink and his ears flop. Knowing Shadow so well, that really tells you how bad it really was AND how much he was worried about Sonic

I saw this video about Shadow having PTSD, and one of the things said in the video is that Shadow is reliving Maria's death every waking moment whenever he is near someone and/or whenever someone showing Shadow compassion. He basically has a hard time showing emotions because he fears that if he gets too close to someone, he'll lose that someone the same way he lost Maria.

7:29 This is one of the best moments for Shadow's character. In a few seconds, he displayed so much emotion and genuine concern for another living being other than himself, more than a decade for the franchise.
Shadow displayed a lot of underlying (I think that’s the right word?) care for Sonic throughout the season, and it honestly makes me happy to see him being portrayed with a “soft around the edges” persona again :) I’m glad Sonic and Shadow would be returning as a duo once again.
I know right this proves shadow that he cares about others this version of shadow is my favorite

I really love the sibling dynamic between Sonic and Shadow. Sonic the goofy overconfident younger brother who always finds himself biting off more than he can chew and getting in trouble. And then Shadow the protective older brother who is just trying to make sure he gets out of the situation alive and in one piece.

Oddly enough (at least in my headcanon of the Sonic lore) Shadow eventually becomes Sonic's brother-in law when the former marries the latter's sister Sonia.🤭
I know it's an odd idea of a pairing, but I can see it work like a more healthier version of Vegeta & Bulma.

I'm glad shadow didn't blindly attack sonic out of rage at the beginning, I thought they just reduced shadow's edginess for this show, but no, they full on improved him, he's matured, rational, smart, and as a result, even more badass than the guy we saw in sonic boom, sonic forces, and shadow the EDGEHOG.

It's the delivery that does it; he was at the bottom of a canyon fighting seemingly endless hordes of robot Sonics, he's a little winded, but he has a POINT to make.
Going from Boom Shadow to THIS was such a glow up. He isnt even in my top Sonic characters but he was so great in this show. I really love Prime and I wish the fandom was less harsh to it. It clearly does a lot of things right. Still very pleased with the season and show in general. The fact that we even got ROUGE and even BIG to come back in a Sonic show is amazing

I love this version of Shadow. He's more akin to Piccolo than Vegeta. He's not a particularly social hedgehog, no, but he's not actively angry. More, serious. He's no less heroic than Sonic, he's just not quite as talkative. Plus, Sonic IS his friend. He just won't admit it.

This might be my favorite voice actor and character portrayal of Shadow! He's still got some edge, little bit of anger considering whats going on, some banter with Sonic but still an awesome fighter for the good side! And his animation plus fight scenes WOW! ❤🦔

I honestly didn’t expect Shadow’s rationality to lead the way for Sonic to wise up and make the right decisions for once. You don’t often get an antihero that gives their rival the motivation to fix their problems.
Sure, he tried to just bypass Sonic and do it on his own, but when that failed, he wasn’t going to sit around and do nothing while the world was being torn apart. He didn’t give up on Sonic, let him make the calls, and had his back the whole time, and that’s a testament to how he’s the best character in the series.

Shadow is one of the best things in prime. Voice acting is incredible and they got his character down well. The scenes with him and sonic are my favourite interactions in this series. I know people are probably sad they didn’t get a super shadow or whatever but k didn’t mind. Hope they adapt him well in the 3rd movie and do him well in general for the rest of the games. 💙🖤

I really thought there was going to be a moment where Shadow would take off his inhibitor rings and go nuts, so imagine my disappointment when the writers seemed to forget that's a thing he can do. And also that he's perfectly capable of navigating the void himself and didn't really need that ride
They did Shadow's personality right but totally nerfed him in this show. I too was disappointed with that. Why can't we have both Shadow's personality and powers right? Is that too much to ask?
I read somewhere that the writers know this, but that had they been faithful to his character power wise the show would've been over before it even started so they had to keep him down somehow which is why they had him stuck in the void for most of the show, it sucks but we got some Shadow content at least
@areafas It's because Shadow, in general, is actually kind of broken. He's basically chaos energy itself and is even immortal. But the games and TV shows nerfed him hard because he would've brought absolute hell in the Sonic Universe.
@@areafas sounds like some lazy writing to me. They could use Shadow's powers properly, if the plot would've been a little more serious and a bit less focused on Sonic. Something like it was in Sonic X (japanesse version). Also I had a feeling that Shadow was nerfed so he won't steal Sonic's spotlight since Sega's policy nowadays is that "Sonic should be the only significant character in the franchise".

I have high hopes that they will, seeing how they said Sonic Prime is canon to the games. Maybe Shadow's characterization in future games will be like he was in Prime
Even though Sonic says Shadow is a buzzkill, you can tell he genuinely looks up to him as a brother and wish he was more buddy like which explains why it gets annoying that they can’t see eye to eye and always clashing.
Prime did every character, ESPECIALLY Shadow, justice. It reminded me why I loved Shadow in the first place. I've been NEEDING for a good written/voiced Shadow for a long time, and they delivered. Shadow is grumpy, loyal, pessimistic but realistic/logical without coming off as annoying, caring, and funny without meaning to or breaking character. This was some good food 🤌🤌🤌.
Do you think they did Sonic justice? I feel like he's a bit dumber here but that could maybe be a good thing if that's giving him a new flaw as the "fast doer, slower planner" type guy. Still threw me off tho
@@klas-6 I somehow forgot about Sonic, but yes. I think he's the only one I wasn't a fan of, but ignored it because of everyone else's portrayal that outshined Sonic. Sonic in Prime felt dummed down and flawed.

Shadow is like the responsible older brother for Sonic. Even though they aren't related. ❤️🩹😁
I dislike that Shadow gets so little screen time through out the seasons, but it works to his benefit in some ways. Cause it means they use well in shorter bursts. Instead of potentially letting him fall into being an uninteresting edgelord who squabbles with Sonic CONSTANTLY. It would have gotten old very quick. It also interesting that his character is such a 'do it myself' kind of character and he's forced in the frustrating position where he must be a passive observer alot of the time, only making his anger at Sonic for screwing up and stuff all the more infuriating. But it makes it all the more satisfying for the audience, and himself, when he can finally get involved again. Also his writing in general was good. His slightly more subtle writing than Sonics blatent quipping ismore interesting.
Also I like how the show just casually says Shadow was fighting an endless hoard of discount Sonics for several episodes, in a canyon and still had the energy to keep fighting, not be badly injured, take on more, plus the alpha and smash his way into stopping Nine again and drop his catchphrase. Shadow has a different kind of 'can-do' spirit.

Hollon. You on to something, Shadow reduced screen time allowed for him to be a great engaging character with a good personality. He never outdated his welcome and he was always there to give Sonic a reality check

Shadow has always been my favorite and I love how this show does his character so well… And I also love how Shadow cared for Sonic so much, like when his expression changed to horrified when he realized that Nine wanted to hurt Sonic, and then looked as if he was ready to literally murder Nine right there and then… And also looked so broken at that moment when he thought that Sonic was gone… It’s like after Shadow lost Maria, Sonic was all he had, and Shadow became like a big brother figure to Sonic and it’s adorable…
I wish that Shadow got more screen time on the show though, like he was literally in the void for the first two seasons, and then when he got thrown into the pit, I just knew, I was like: ‘Great, won’t see him for five more episodes’…..

Even though shadow has a hard time showing it and admitting it, he truly does care about sonic and does think of him as his friend, especially when he made sure to protect him from nine and get sonic back home before he disappeared forever, showed how much he would go to great lengths to help his friend

But that doesn't deny the fact that he LITERALLY was just vibing in the void for 15 episodes and vibing in the canyon for 4 episodes (They said that he fighted there but thats just to fill the hole) and his powers as an ultimate lifeform were nerfed to the MAXIMUM. We all know what Shadow can really do, and he could always teleport without using chaos emerald.
Shadow gives off the estranged older brother vibe. He prefers to do his own thing, but deep down, he cares about Sonic and will protect him when he needs it. He leaves again, but mutual respect now exists between the two. They can count on each other in times of crisis🫡
