    This is an interesting method.
    The other thing you can do is to be blatant in a first draft and then simply start substituting words for other words subsequent drafts.
    You can start to build up interesting ideas with each new sweep.

      Good stuff, that's the way I usually do it. I guess this tactic would happen somewhere between draft 1 and 3. 👍 thanks for the comment.

    So…
    Lyrics need to elicit emotion
    Emotion comes from imagery
    Imagery comes from detail
    And the details must embody the essence of the emotion without saying so… Brilliant. 👍
    When’s the book coming out fella? 🙏😎

    Bono/Edge wrote " She's a Mystery to Me" Roy sang it on Mystery Girl with him- shortly before the Actung Baby period- I remeber when he died and hearing this song come out after that it was surreal- that time between Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum and Actung Baby was interesting to see them reinvent themselves.

    Thanks, I'm going to try this. I find my best lyrics are quite direct, but my favourite lyrics to listen to are weirder spacey ones which I can't write anything like.

    excellent tips again. Btw just going off subject whats usually a good time length for a song ?

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cheers mystrikrebel. The length all depends. comercial songs are around the 3 and a half minute mark but I think it should be as long as it needs to be, shorter, longer if thats what you feel the song needs. you can always do longer songs and make your own "radio edit" version.

    • @thrownstair
      @thrownstair ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Song lengths have been creeping down to take advantage of how Spotify pays out a stream, 2:00-2:40 and sometimes even shorter, but they could change how that works just as quickly, and it could be that everyone's making 7-minute epics a few years later.

    Can you tell me how to compose a song without any instrument or theoretical knowledge?

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sure, I can do a video on it. If you can give more details I can be sure to give you the info you need. Have you written a song before? Do you write lyrics? What kind of songs do you want to write? Give me as much info as you can about what your looking for and I can answer you question better👍

      I agree with this. I also am not able to play any instruments. Have a basic understanding of piano, and that’s about it. I have some lyrics already that aren’t perfect at all but I also don’t know how to put them to music. The lack of instruments hinder me.

    Bobo ermm Bono was a great singer at one time but like many Irish people( like myself) he grates on my nerves .In God's Country is my fave song but the lyrics sound sinister when he sings "I stand with the Sons of Cain!".

    Love your stuff! I have a small nitpick with your editing style, though.
    You add captions to only certain parts of your speech to emphasize them. I understand that it seems like a good emphasis tool, but it has a few problems with eye strain and memorability
    There are two ways the emphasis captions exist. 1. without captions. 2. with captions. Without captions it forces your eyes to dart back and forth between the subject of the scene (your face) and the caption. This can make it hard to focus on the words being said. With regular captions, your eyes are used to going back and forth, so it doesn’t strain your eyes. The problem is the captions cover up each other, which makes it hard to read.
    Having a natural teaching cadence when speaking, creates a second problem with using captions as emphasis tools. Captions have to be accurate to what you’re saying of course, so emphasizing certain sentences creates a sense of only hearing parts of a conversation. Similar effect to trying to communicate with someone on a radio whose audio keeps cutting out.
    A possible common solution is to change the camera angle so you’re in one side of the frame, or crop your shot to one side of the screen and have a background on the other side.
    You can put a box of bullet points on the screen, just regular text can pop up, an image or gif also can, anything you want. A bonus is it also isn’t directly tied with the words you’re saying, so you can make the bullet point simpler or just different to what you’re actually saying in ways that would be unnatural for captions or speech.

    Another great video from you! However, you don't differentiate genres in lyric writing. For example, a Country & Western song would usually leave far less to the imagination than say an Alt Rock song.
