I used to think Dragon Ball hadn't aged well, and in some respects it hasn't. But when I got into the original manga, I realized what a lot of the appeal actually was: Toriyama's art is fantastic. I mean REALLY fantastic. Not in the same way Oda and Araki's art is where it's super detailed, but instead it's exceptionally clean and flows really nicely. Even if you don't like watching Dragon Ball, you probably at least like to draw it. The world and character designs do a lot of the heavylifting compared to the actual storytelling.
@@anuragp7513 Humor is very subjective. Regarding "repetition" I do not see why this is a problem in Dragon Ball and not One Piece. One Piece follows the same pattern in every arc and nobody says that it is "outdated" or that it is bad and "repetitive".

The pure respect for Ippo in this video brings a tear to my eye. Also, for those that don't know, the manga gets updated weekly, has been going on since 1989, and the mangaka runs a boxing gym. He knows his stuff.
As a lover of ippo i love seeing it there. i just wish he woulda ended it and started a separate sequel series like naruto and boruto as the new content just isn't near as good and i had to stop reading it or it'd of killed my love for the series and show. As someone who didn't grow up with Bleach in high school and only started watching it around the end of college, Soul Society Arc truly is a really damn good arc even without the rose-tinted glasses.
Bleach only gets bad when you realize Kubo just wanted to write the Soul Society arc like that was his dream in life, his childhood aspiration, and he tried to realize it by reskinning the SS arc while changing its name 2 more times.

Neat to see that after a decade without a new anime season, you still put Hajime no Ippo at the top. Mad respect. Greetings from the Netherlands, you absolute madman.
I’ve watch anime since I was little, back in the Inuyasha, Naruto and Sailor Moon, but I never got into One Piece. After hearing Trash Taste talk about it on their 24 hour charity stream, I decided to start the One Piece manga last week and I’m obsessed. I’m only 240 chapters in though. I’ve been reading like 3-5 volumes a day.🤣
I think the thing with Fairy Tail that makes it extremely hit or miss for a ton of people is that it relies on you caring about the characters. I personally love Fairy Tail, even with its flaws, and it's because I grew to really love the characters. It's not the deepest shounen, yeah, but it's good fun and just felt very home-y to me. If you don't care about the cast though, it'll definitely make it a slog to watch sonce it is character focused. It'll always hold a special place in my heart personally, and it's one of the shounen I'm most nostalgic for.
Every single show relies on you caring about the characters, fairy tail fails to do that for alot of people. If you like it thats fine but please accept that thats why people dislike it.
@@sensationalgamer193 I don't personally agree with the comparison, and I have my reasons for it. But I felt I'd be wasting my breath since at the end of the day it's just all down to opinions. Besides I think if I even attempted to explain why I *personally* think Fairy Tail isn't so bad as everyone makes it out to be, a bunch of annoying people will comment simply saying I'm wrong when....it's an opinion 💀 hell I already got replies like that when all I did was explain why I like the show and my opinion on why I think it doesn't work for some while it really works for others lmao

Edit2: AFTER SO LONG HALF A YEAR… I have just landed in wano! Thankful for this show.
Welcome aboard! Just to get you hyped, the newest episode, 1015 is probably the best episode ever so it’s just getting started! Lots of time to catch up. I just started in December and finally caught up. Just working on the last 20 chapters of the manga.
As someone who watch Black Clover, I'm actually agree with this opinion. That show just keep getting better and better! Although I have problem finishing the first episode back then when it first airing. Something about the show feels just like a classic shounen series to me.
@@vedangnarvekar4186 I wouldn't say the manga is that good currently, the villains were a bit lackluster and there were so many asspulls. Lucifero was such a big let down, I think black clover's peak was at the elf arc or somewhere near that arc.
@@theophrastusbombastus827 I wl agree that lucifero was a letdown and probably one of the worst villains in bc tho so far there was only one ass pull which was tdu (decipher if u can) . tho all hope is not lost yet as at the end of the chp adramalech did a creepy smile so he might do something in the next chp
Well I mean dbs anime is sooo different compared to the manga because its made for audiences of 13 and under so you really gotta serperate when comparing db and dbz to dbs
Overall, very respectable list. Though some are different for me and that's okay BECAUSE anime hits different to each other. We don't always feel the same with others when we watch them.
Agreed (ill take a diff genre as example) for mecha some people have a differen "best" like me personally its GL but thats because its got more significance to me and hits harder than the others, while someone else might say EVA or Gundam. Everyones list is gonna differ its all about enjoying them and spreading that enjoyment with others who take part in it
Eyeshield 21 is so underrated. It's probably my second favorite sports anime behind Ippo (I haven't watched Haikyu, but its on my list eventually). ES21 manga is just sensational, the art and character writing...it can inspire the hearts of young men. When he took off the mask, that was hype. When he earned the title he was falsely given, that was hype. When he went stiff-armed Agon into the ground, so many good moments. The only thing I really had frustrations with was the last arc, the JPN dream team, I just felt there needed to be more character interactions instead of focusing on the Pentagon or whatever they were called. The only dude that really mattered was Panther lol. It is ALSO one of the few manga I could read beginning to end without feeling bored. For example, Ippo has dull stretches. One Piece, as much as I love it, has dull stretches. Maybe its an unfair comparison since both said manga have 1000+ chapters, but the point still stands. The pacing for ES21 was really good, the training arc wasn't boring and it made you appreciate each member of the cast. You spent just enough time with each character to appreciate them. Also, Sena is a likeable main character, something many shonen have trouble with in western audiences I feel (just my opinion). I really appreciated Sena. He wasn't no pretty boy, but did he have a soul of a competitor. The anime for ES21 was awful though. It just...it did not do the original artist any justice. Also, it made the game look silly - how sequences would happen on the field and would appear nonsensical. At least in the manga you could kind of envision in your mind the correct sequence if you know the game well enough.
Finally someone mention eyeshield 21!!! Man, i love it so much! Also ur right about dull moment, i really had a hard time to finish any mangas/anime/novel with alot chapters, no matter how much i love it. Even when im yelling that this is the best anime or manga ever, i still havent finish it.... if i hve top 6, i probably didnt finish the half. Its really bad. But e21? i even read it 3 time. Its so packed, no waste chap, every chap is so thoughtful and alot going on in 1 chap, the detail, the goal is always clear ,the art is epic, and the characters are all enjoable. I've used e21 for study material, and man, i just realized.. e21 is very difficult. Much more difficult than i thought. More difficult than any other mangas. My brain get heat from thinking(i dont know how to explain it, so just leave it like that) I love e21 characters. So many cool characters. Like Hiruma.. man, i never see any characters like hiruma. The coolest and uniqe. Dispite how difficult his character is, he never break a character. And also e21 hv the rarest useful relevant characters, mamori.
I tried to watch this show as a huge NFL fan. In the first episode, they called a fumble and interception and got so many rules, positions, concepts wrong about the game. I dropped it so fast. Maybe if I knew nothing about football I'd enjoy it, but it's really REALLY hard to get into if you are a sports fan.
If you guys haven't watched Hajime no Ippo yet I highly recommend giving it a shot, even if you're not into sports/sports anime, cuz a lot of it is about the characters and their story which set the stakes for every fight. Imagine the hype of the entire MHA tournament but instead you get this hype condensed into EVERY big boxing match in this show. And like Garnt said, it'll one-up itself with every fight. You'll get used to the old anime style in no time as you get invested in the characters and story progression. Trust me on this one. I disliked the look of older anime shows but now it's one of my favourite anime of all time. It's done by MadHouse so yes the animation in every fight is top tier, combined with the perfect sound effects. It's also surprisingly funny at times. It's also somehow one of my favourite comedy anime lol
When I first started reading I was thinking it would take forever and be hella tedious to get through. Then I catch up and wonder how I got through 989 chapters in 3 weeks of semi-casual reading. Ippo gets a special spot in my heart because the story and the characters could absolutely be real people in a real story. Sure it gets a little exaggerated at bits but it really tells the plight and hardship that fighters go through without letting it get too dreary in the details.
I will agree that Hajimme no Ippo is great but my god currently in the manga I want Morikawa to make a fucking decision with Ippo. He heavily alludes that Ippo will make the decision to do something but he keeps not doing it and it feels like it is going to be another 100 chapters before Ippo makes that decision. Just make a decision Morikawa already. Not to say there haven't been some good parts in what is going on I just want to see Ippo do it.
@@pathora4484 it's really obvious that Ippo is going back to the ring, but he needs a reason, remember that he never wanted to be a champion, he was mostly going along with the desires of everyone around him. Ippo always wanted to not be weak, to help his Mother and to fight Miyata, first was accomplished when he won the rookie tournament, Third was cancelled because of Bad timing and Miyata's issues and the second is something he doesn't need boxing for. He needs one thing to push him back in the ring, that is probably going to be finding out that the coach is dying but odds are that it happens after the fights of Ippo's rivals.
@@imatiu i dont think it will be the coach condition(but could be, and i dream of nekota training sessions). I think it will be a self realization probably after a former rival fight.
So glad that someone is showing some love to Hajime No Ippo, that show was awesome, doesn't have fillers, you thought an episode is a filler but it's canon. The balance of comedy, action, drama is so good, and Jyoji Morikawa sure showcasing his knowledge about the sport. Man the manga art especially in fight scenes are a thing of beauty!

@@normlord6357 Well to me I like where the show is going, that's what I loved about the show, it's not always gold sometimes you'll get silver or worse you'll not get anything. Hunter x Hunter is great, but it's too sad that new episodes don't come out anymore. I hope that someday we'll get more of HxH episodes. EDIT: Lol, I finished HxH like a month ago and it's already leaving its 7 years long hiatus. How lucky am I?
What? how 500? I thought the manga only had like 50-60 chapters after the anime ended. That's like 25 episodes. Not saying I wouldn't absolutely love 500 more episodes, but only if the quality is the same, I don't want hunter hunter to be something like Naruto

From someone who really likes Fire Force, I can say that some parts of the first season did sting quite a bit, and that the second season did not only a lot of world building but also character building. It still has some of the issues of before, but I'd say it definitely became less reliant on the fanservice of Tamaki (I also think they downplayed it quite a bit, but don't quote me on that). Also, the way some characters progressed in the story is actually just incredible, especially with the amazing animation AND sound design. I'd say give it a try, and you'd probably feel more inclined to atleast rank it average or higher.
The first season was really nice I enjoyed the fight scenes and all felt nicely paced, and the story seemed somewhat interesting, Mc still believing that his brother is alive and that he didn’t die ( I really liked the aspect that there was a mysterious entity that killed his mom and such and I forgot if they talked about who it was but it was cool) after season one it fell off for me, the fan service was annoying in s1 but it got even more annoying in s2. The fight scenes were so badly paced. You would see shin fighting a guy for a good 5 minutes then see the other tm8s fighting their dude for a couple minutes then end of episode. The whole new girl pillar arc was just awful because of that. Made watching every episode painful just wanting to see the good fights. Also the whole story of it just got so confusing. From a simple I want to go save my brother to some lady inside the city’s furnace and not letting them get pillars??? Idek season 2 killed it.

Hajime no Ippo gives you feels after every major match then you get to listen to that ending song. You can feel the training/hardships that Ippo endured to reach that point. Good manga/anime.
The end credit song legit makes me cry. It reminds me of my failures and pushes me to get better. Perhaps it feels more sentimental as it is played when Volg leaves.
Hunter x Hunter will forever be one of my favorites. The way the characters are written are just incredible; seeing as the Phantom Troupe were written to be seen in a human like way. I don’t think I’ve ever liked villains as much as I liked the Phantom Troupe. The ant chimera arc has slow pacing, yes, but imo it didn’t disappoint. The anime isn’t afraid to kill off certain characters too. And I just really like the writing of Kurapika specifically. Gon’s descent into despair during the chimera arc was really well thought out, as well as Killua’s character development. I’ve seen other animes that are a close second to HXH, but there’s just something magical about Togashi’s writing. Edit: Just because you don’t agree with me, doesn’t mean you should send hate comments. I understand not liking hxh, but respect my opinion as I respect yours. It isn’t hard.
Got into HxH a few months ago, just finished the Chimera arc and it’s such an amazing show. I really love what’s done with the Shounen genre, expanding it while also flipping the tropes in such a genius way. Growing up with Naruto watching this show made me appreciate both series even more. You can clearly see what inspired Naruto and how Kishimoto took inspiration and expanded them into a completely different beast. Naruto def deserves some of the valid critiques which hindered it from reaching the greats, but I feel that there are some truly amazing aspects many seem to have forgotten due to the series reputation. I’m glad HxH managed to package everything so neatly that it’s hard to deny the Shounen masterclass it is. The dynamic between Naruto x Sasuke, in contrast to Killua and Gon is an example of that. You can clearly see the blueprint but how it’s still it’s own thing.
I love that Garnt put Air Gear in Above Mid and barely explained it. He says “roller skating with rockets” nah it’s not just that, it’s like if roller skates had Stands. There’s some truly insane abilities in that series by the end and it really sucks how the series was barely getting started in the one season we got. Just imagine all the music we could have had produced or supervised by Hideki Naganuma by now if the series got to continue!
Oh damn, that’s a great way to put it. Rollerskates had stands. Honestly, my first impression of it is just doing tricks and racing. Never expected it to be a fucking gang war. Not to mention the art… Oh Great is a fucking God

yeah it flew completly under the Radar. But this is actualy a show that would deserve its own Spot since its actualy the Anti Shounen Manga. Its more a parody of the entire concept then anything else but this give it kinda its own charm.
Interesting that he’s never seen Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It’s definitely my favorite in just about every way. The story was well written and not too long, had amazing animation, and the ending is my favorite ending in an anime ever. I’m not the biggest watcher of anime in the world, but have watched quite a few from more obscure slice of life’s to the 400+ episode shounens, but nothing has made me feel the same way as FMAB has.
My only complaint with this list are some shows were judged by their peak while others were not. For example YYH got a high rating even tho we can admit the early parts and finals arcs are mid af. But naruto was placed much lower for the same issues while having a shit load of high points. Imo both should have been placed near each other tbh. Naruto just for its length and dominate run time of a decade of great moments should get a little pass for the fumble that was the final war arc like YYH did. I hope one day YYH gets a modern remake that shit would bang
I’m surprised Garnt didn’t watch Magi when season 1 & 2 were going on, it was pretty massive then. I really loved the second season in particular, one of my favorite battle shounens arcs to be honest. The manga was great until the final arc where it had some interesting ideas, but floundered on the execution and was clearly rushed after a pivotal point in the story.
I really think if the author gave it some thought and planned it a bit better, she really could've produced one of the best Shounen ever. It's so interesting, mature and unlike pretty much any other Shounen, but the execution of it was just terrible.
Magi is insanely underrated. For me its one of the greatest of all Time. The amount of research the author must have collected from History, Politics and philosophy for this work is beyond of what most of the shows have to offer. I think thats also a reason why it doesnt stick for many people because it gets quite complicated.
@@KaleEb449 I disagree the only issue I had with Magi was the ending. And apparently that was just bad due to the fact the ending was forced with the manga being cancelled. Personally I think its really disappointing that not very many people got into Magi
(Jujutsu Kaisen) when Mahito kills Junpai I was convinced he was gonna make it to the school (because he was at the school in the OP). mahito and sukuna laughed over his death, the scene set up and subverted my expectation so that it felt like I was the one being laughed at for thinking he was gonna make it. it gave me a connection to Itadori and made the following fight personal. I've never had any other anime any do that, so at that moment Jujutsu Kaisen became my favorite anime.
Tbh it felt more of a scam to me since he has a better backstory than most characters in the show. Killing off well written characters while leaving tropey generic characters leaves a bad taste in my mouth

It pretty much stood itself as a different series compared to others airing at that time bc of that But damn it to hell as a manga reader, to think that Junpei's death is only scratching the surface of Gege's plan to mentally fuck with Yuji is just so depressing
I’ve watched most of this list and other than OP being one of the few I haven’t seen, I gotta say, this list is rather respectable tbh. I have a few if put higher and a couple I’d put lower but only by on tier if anything. Can’t complain, this is a solid list.
One Piece is unbeatable. The way it has made me cry in the middle of night, made me gasp for air, laugh and covered my whole body with goosebumps, I still haven't felt this with ANY other anime- no matter its brilliant animation or writing.
Seven Deadly sins and Promises Neverland fans think they have it bad but at least people are allowed to talk about the series. Being a Rouin Kenshin fan is true suffering as not only did it have a excellent anime but probably a live action series some could say was better the the O.G series.
Say what you want about One Piece, but one *UNDENIABLE FACT* is that the world building is the absolute best across all anime and manga. The way Oda introduces new settings, with new characters, adding in new plots, whilst intertwining all of it back into the main story, is just pure genius.
I love how you used undeniable and arguably in the same sentence xD I'd say Tower of God is also up there. It's just not as long (yet) even if it's technically not a manga
one piece is not in my top 5 anime but its world building is definateltly in the top three in all of anime,i dont think anyone can disagree that onepiece has one of the best worldbuilding
While I can’t really call it “objectively good” Yu-gi-oh’s actually a really fun series with endearing characters, and GX in particular is amazing. Season 3 of GX is like the high point of the franchise, I really recommend it. GX also has the funniest 4kids dub of all time, it’s great.
@@stonksagent9040 ....Stonks Agent says while pushing up their glasses. The lens of the glasses glint in the light, obscuring their eyes. Who is this mysterious genius with the insightful takes? The onlooking NPCs can only speculate in wonder.
If you’ve read or watched jujutsu kaisen , chainsaw man or other modern takes on the shounen genre and compare it to the dragon ball franchise you realize the standards for shounen anime has risen significantly. The story telling, character design, world building, interesting power systems, believable and consistent power scaling, there’s just too many things that the new gen authors have refined.
agreed and pople saying old gen are better I feel like are just talking about big 3 or hunter maybe forgetting all the other old animes with pretty basic plotlines and general story execution
I also agree with this argument. Its like the old shounen anime are the ones that placed the standard of shounen genre. This new gen authors are trying to be creative with their storytelling in a desire to outdo the standards of this old shounen anime. But it doesnt mean that the old animes are not good, in fact they are very entertaining that we, as a viewer or reader, can differentiate what shounen anime is good or bad nowadays because they already placed that standard in the first place
cant agree with story telling and world building tho.............................i have watched maybe more than 2 to 300 animes and still yet to find anime like one piece where each and every character be it main or side has been used properly and about worldbuilding One piece comes second to none
@@thokchomb3 no, I agree that one piece has one of the best and expansive world building, but one piece is NOT your average shounen anime. There are so many other older anime from the 90s and early 2000s that are subpar today's standards
@@choidaniel2040 in my take for the newer animes the animation, characters, fights all that is cool but when it comes to story the settings almost feels similar to me.........nowadays i watch mostly feel good anime like isekai shokudai , slime or spy family
Air gear and D-gray man are definitely highly under rated, and they're solid shounen that gets better and better as the chapters goes, a clear up slope type
quick question, is d-gray man still running? i heard the author had some serious wrist problems and went on a hiatus, and then it restarted, but i never heard about it ending or not.
As someone who got back into Anime because of My Hero... I completely agree. It doesn't have the same flare it used to, not to say it can't get that flare back though.
it's because they now have to deal with making a movie alongside the anime, so these past seasons has been painful due to pacing and animation issues. From this point onward, there would be no more boring school arcs.
i thought the season 6 manga material was really good but it’s dwindled back to underwhelming. It did bring readers back for amazing stuff like JJK and Chainsaw man though which is worth something
The beauty of the shonen anime is that everyone has a different "peak" anime that resonates with them for one reason or another. I do not care about my favourite being called mid, it's peak for me.
I was having goosebumps when grant was tlaking about the demon slayer spider fight then he mentions that he also got goosebumps, such an amazing scene that got me super hyped up about half a decade ago
I'd put Juju high-mid simply because it was highly enjoyable for me. I looked forward to every episode. The fights, the characters, the twists that were used to come out on top were great. Very much looking forward to more of it.
@@FoundingKaren great choreography tbh,ima just stop there can you even mention one thing it does bad? everything about it is good season 1 is bare minimum an 8/10 its just gonna go upwards from there
@@yaboiplank6764 I can. It does bad at powerscaling. They say the power of a Jujutsu hasn’t much to do about 1 or 2 years of training to justify the 1st year fighting against the 3rd year, but this doesn’t justify everything. First, that destroys the relevance of classing curses. By the end of S1, the protagonists can solo S class curses. Wtf, How can I get excited for a fight now if it’s not a S class curse or a hord of A classes. And who are the jujutsu who struggle with B/C classes ? Cause everyone we saw fighting looks fucking strong. The movie prequel said that there were only 16 S class curses, ok. But then the serie throws them at the protagonists like fodder mid bosses ?? I don’t understand why this ranking exists. Second, this is my opinion but seeing the protagonists being omega strong after 24ep ruins any shonen vibe it could send me. I can’t root for the protagonists they are among the strongest. Yuji litteraly did a world record perf with his 4 consecutive black flash… Nanami said it did 4 by chance, it was a world record and Yuji got to that level in 3 months. « Yes but they say when you do one it’s easier to do more », yes but Nanami said he did 4 by luck and it is a god damn world record. How can I root for someone who starts his journey as among the bests in the world ?? It also did bad the tournament arc. I don’t remember any justification for the vilains to attack at the time the school was the most protected. And if there was a reason, they could have waited for everyone to be half dead on the floor but noooo it’s better to attack as quick as possible so as many students can defend the school and their lives. This is trash shonen writing, interrupting a tournament arc for no reason just means you don’t want to say out loud « x is better than y ». And for my latest rant, it did very bad at integrating Yuji back to the protagonist trio. Yuji only knew his 2 friends for like a week before he was killed. Then the other 2 spent 2-3 months training together, overcoming the death of Yuji, starting your formation with such a trauma probably creates really strong bonds between people. But then Yuji comes back, and there is nothing awkward about it. He reintegrates the group like nothing happened. He doesn’t miss any private joke, he doesn’t feel like they created something without him. It’s bland as fuck. The only thing we have to adress this are the visuals of the end 2.
The most saddening part here is that he's never read Assassination Classroom 😭 I'm just mad because the author also wrote Neuro which got bastardized in the anime. It's such a bad adaptation that I'm a little relieved Garnt never watched it... So AssClass is like the author's only work anybody can appreciate in English nowadays... try out that series and when you realize it's good, ask Viz for more. 😥
@@neku2741 If it matters, the one (1) outstanding thing about Neuro was giving him DIO's voice actor Takehito Koyasu. It's worth watching like the first five minutes to hear him, haha. The rest of the anime... whew. Gotta love the "let's change the ending and add filler" era of anime. 😞
I would rank ippo higher than slam dunk. Both are really funny and they have great character moments. Both sakuragi and ippo are underdogs but they’re both very different. Sakuragi is an underdog in terms of his skills but on the inside he has not doubt in himself and doesn’t underestimate himself. Ippo on the other hand, is a true underdog at heart. What holds him back isn’t his skills, he has possibly the most potential in the series because of his absolutely overwhelming strength. What holds ippo back is that he’s meek and all of his weakness is in his head. I find ippo to be a source of inspiration for me. Also, Haikyuu is better than eyeshield 21 for me. Both are great. I understand your rating for dragon ball. I hate super. However, the original dragon ball and dbz manga is amazing and well paced (unlike the anime). Also I think dragon ball part one (before z) is an original concept in shonen. It’s basically a typical martial arts story with superpowers that are based on martial arts. I also love the adventure element of dragon ball, an element that I think z got rid of after namek. I love how the parts of the story about adventure and the parts about martial arts are balanced and separated from each other, like the world tournaments being in between the big arcs. I think saiyan saga (maybe namek) is the best part of the whole dragon ball series but the world tournament at the end of dragon ball where goku fights piccolo is at the same level of quality as early dbz. I don’t know if I’d rank yu yu hakusho an entire rank higher than hunter x hunter. I much prefer yyh to hxh. They’re very different because yu yu hakusho is a delinquent manga combined with a lore loosely based on yokai mythology. Hunter x hunter is a very cleverly written dragon quest style anime with some modern influences, like big cities, video games, and sci-fi style monsters like the chimera ants. The idea behind yu yu hakusho is more interesting to me. I like that yusuke is a delinquent and he deals with some very relatable issues he has to overcome. Killua is also relatable but I relate to the yu yu hakusho characters more. Chimera ant and yorknew are amazing arcs. I think they stack up to dark tournament and chapter black. Besides the ending, chapter black is my favorite togashi arc all the way through. The only thing I like about hunter x hunter that I may consider it above yu yu hakusho is the phantom troupe. I think they’re the best villain group/evil organization I’ve seen in shonen.
Regarding the best villian group...... I have both been watching anime and read fantasy novels for almost two decades now and I like the spiders the most. The only thing not close but badass in an individual way would be the villians from the Wheel of Time.
One Piece is one of the few stories where it truly is better near the end than the beggining. Most shows are great at the beginning and slowly decline. Or they start decently, reach their peak, and then decline. One Piece was good when it started, great after 400 chapters, amazing after 600 chapters, and fucking insane at 1000+ chapters!
Fucking insane after 1000+? Nah, more like fucking trash after 1000+ chapter, cuz Luffy was the god all the time and it didn't matter how many struggled or trained. His damn fruit name changed and he was the choosen one and destined to be the pirate king from the moment he ate that fruit. Oda ruined all comic with this stupid move. One Piece was a unique case because of Luffy was not a god, was not a choosen one or didn't have extremely powerful ability and was struggling sometimes because of this. But now? No, it's just a cliched shounen comic.
@KingKami No, I was reading the story, that is the sad part. I wasted all that time for this cliched shounen bullshit. If I knew that his fruit was an extremely op mythical zoan, then I wouldn't read the story from the start. Everything is meaningless now and no, I don't think he can die cuz he already died while he was fighting against Kaido, but his mythical zoan fruit revived him. Do you remember how Cipher Pol agents interfered their fight and Luffy died with Kaido's hit? How could you say Luffy didn't die at that moment? He clearly died and revived thanks to his "god" fruit.
Yuyu Hakusho is a perfect example of animation not being everything. The animation is dated but the show still slaps. I was watching the knife heel fight the other day and that shit slapped!

I was honestly agreeing with every single ranking until you became probably the only anime youtuber to put Rurouni Kenshin in high Mid tier.. thats when it really hit me in the feels. Thank you Garnt, for being one of the very few people who really appreciate the beauty and depth of the themes in this Manga, it really made me shed tears as a young man. I'm proud to say that ive been watching you about as long as both you and I have been watching anime (some 15 years now..) and you have 200% still got it! Even after all this time, I still like all your opinion and analysis videos and wait for your recommendations every season. Cheers to you mate! and really hope you keep going and growing with your channel, which has aged like a fine wine!
in naruto series scaling pain fight was trrash becoz wen yahiko destroyed the village he showed that strong villain energy but fighting naruto he was like let me remain like a scare crow just like all naruto villains y didnt yahito used almighty push on naruto in the first place n than later died from a predictable small rasengan which was miles away 💀. lee vs gaara was a bs fight it was just about running fast aside of that lee lost the fight becoz of sand💀 even after being wayyyyyy faster than gaara than there naruto comes who is equal to kiba in strength and defeats a wayy stronger version of gaara without training his whole life this arc was definition of garrbage. As someone who read the manga for Haikyuu, the ending was absolutely amazing and 100% deserves to be on peak mid tier for sure. One of the greatest shonen series ever made tbh especially in the sports genre.
I always say the same thing the manga's ending is soooo good it easily is on par with slam dunk as the best sports manga (haven't seen hajime no ippo tho)
Hajime no Ippo, Slam Dunk and Haikyuu are what peak sports manga looks like. Diamond no ace come really close though with my boy Sawamura's developpement.
I read Bakuman years ago, and I still remember that line you mentioned. It was so impactful and just shows how good of a line it is that we still remember it years after.
Bakuman is one of my all time favourites, it's one of my few complete manga collections, and the only reason I don't own the anime is because it received such a shitty translation in the UK. Seriously, the UK release was translated from Japanese to French to English, why they couldn't just use the US release that was already there, I don't know...
Garnt's love and respect for One Piece is just something beautiful in my eyes. Eichiro Oda is a genius who will be remembered throughout the history of animanga for his work.
naruto is a duumpster fire show about a guy giving basic knowledge to change some braain deead villains who destroy their own villages ,ppl ,friends ,relatives for miner reasons and then some duumb guy with whiskes also the duumbbest in the planet who doesnt study with zero brain power changed villains minds by giving some basic logic talk. villains even after meeting hundreds of wayyy more matured ppl who have way more iq than the mc and naruto gets shhitton of plott armours ,aspuls every second from his bf kishimoto with no explanation and dudes doesnt even train for his modes and he's from a elite clan even a child of prophecy ,reincarnation of gods, and has a unlimited recharge plot device inside of him aka the fox , gets plot armor from random ghosts. than just like every time side characters ar treated as garrbage no spotlight for them and ppl die for no reason . kishimoto loves diickridding naruhœ to the point were even if sasuke got 10 tomoe renigan with sage of 66 paths baryon susono he will still get beaten by just narutos casual rasengan 💀. Naruto couldnt even create a shadow clone from beginning after than few seconds how dafuq was he able to create multiple clones just by seeing the scroll for couple of seconds .y didnt obito revived rin at the first place . this anime doesnt even make sense naruto is a hyppocrite duumbgeneric plain character whos just being depressed all the time for no reason and keeps thinking about his past and the swing instead of moving forwward but he just goes simping over sakura the whole series and screaming the shiiitout of his rivals name the whole show Even One piece is trillion times has better story n villains
Season 6 of MHA is definitely going to go CRAZY. As a manga reader, I've enjoyed it immensely. I'm glad your opinion on Black Clover has changed since your original videos.
what’d you think of the more recent manga arc?(post raid) I’ve felt kinda let down. Like the scale and tone feels like it took a backstep. Still kinda fun but I was expecting a lot more
@@ethanwatson6131 Imo, they gotta set it up. You have to remember that there are a certain characters that have to be fleshed out first (example in the most recent chapter). So I expected it to be slower at first but I think it'll pick up soon. Kinda like the MVA Arc set up the Raid arc.
I gotta say, I loved Black Clover from the first season. But after the Elf restoration arc, there were so many fillers until it moved into the Devil arc when they go to the Heart kingdom to train. Other than the fillers, ESPECIALLY THE LAST 12 EPISODES, it was fucking insane.
What i liked about BC is that everyone there has his issues and personal problems. There is no "perfect" person in this anime, you can see everyones good sides right besides his bad attitudes. That makes characters more human, like a lot of One Piece characters.
@@edwardchau6871 I love the show and its characters but watching it was lack luster in its plot and ability to make me want to keep watching, although I managed to finish it. It redeemed itself during the last few episodes and I can't wait for the movie to be released
I never thought slam dunk would be peak in his eyes, but I’m happy that people out there appreciate a piece of literature as amazing as Slam Dunk. It’s really a shame with Rurouni Kenshin, but I totally feel so connected to those shows and will always be thankful for making me stick with anime to this day.
Yu yu hakusho and rurouni Kenshin are true goats of shonen it’s great to see them both share a Spot as each other. Lol I’m planning on reading the manga for both series and In my opinion are better than what’s popular lol.
Hunter X Hunter is my favorite Shounen anime and one of my favorite animes of all time. The characters feel like real, competent people, they have very well-written character arcs. And characters that don't receive as much screentime as others are engaging and have a personality. The villains are amazing, the protagonists are amazing as well and the fight scenes are awe inspiring. The worlbuilding factor is not very fleshed out but it's really interesting and if given a chance it may have one of the best worldbuilding. Every character goes from point A to point B at the end of the series. And, Madhouse did an incredible job with the animation as well.
@@nathanielbenedict2197 I have watched Gintama it's hilarious and really badass and GTO is one of my favorite animes of all time but Hunter X Hunter is just for me.
i watched hunter x hunter a couple years ago but it just stopped in the middle of the anime.. pretty disappointing i dont even know if it ever got continued, can somebody help?
Judging all of dragon ball as one entity is definitely unfair, regardless of the final tier given. Dragon ball is something vastly different than Z, DBS is something vastly different from the old DB/DBZ as well (most would agree it's much shitter). Especially when Jojo is divided into like 6 parts
A problem I think with the dragon ball anime is that it's really the most fun to watch when it's just dumb fun fighting but it would've been way too expensive to do that and make it look good which explains the insane amounts of filler but it does deliver when it comes to the actual fight
For me the best and most memorable part of Yu-Gi-Oh! is the first seven volumes of the manga. In the english version of the manga the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga is separated into three parts, with the second part Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist and third part Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World being the parts that are shown in the Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters anime that was in the 4Kids dub. I highly recommend anyone that hasn't read the first part of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga to read it. It's a lot darker and barely focuses on the Duel Monsters card game at all. There was an anime adaptation that came before the Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters anime that fans like to call Yu-Gi-Oh season 0, which never made it to the west, but the manga is honestly so much better.
i am a yugioh player, so rewatching yugioh is actually so painful cuz they are not playing by the rules and the "genius" strategies are painfully obvious. so if the manga barely focuses on the game, it is a god send.
I came to the comment section immediately after the Yu-Gi-Oh placement. Yeah the anime is ass, but the manga. The manga! After watching the 4Kids dub and reading the manga after my mind was blown! The manga is straight up just great. Anime could have never existed as far as I'm concerned.
@@eleonarcrimson858 The first 7 volumes that Viz has just named Yu-Gi-Oh barely focuses on the card game, but the parts afterwards do. The second part named Duelist is the Duelist Kingdom, Battle City arcs and part 3 Millennium World is the part where they go back to Ancient Egypt.
Oda could write a chapter, and everyone will call it peak one piece And when the next chapter is out, everyone will call that peak That's just how oda works He's is great at foreshadowing and connecting things
HunterxHunter and Fullmetal Alchemist are the two animes I come back again and again. Many from the animes he listed I enjoyed and often hyperfixated on them for a year or so. But none of them makes me come back like HxH and FMA. There´s just something so deep and meaningful behind these utterly human troubles they are facing (despite often being thrown in very unhuman situations). Also honorary mention for Gintama because it´s just ... different. And makes you think a lot, when you reach the serious parts.
HxH and FMAB are top 5 anime imo. Both are very philosophical in their own way, but I'd give the slight edge to Brotherhood because I remember less flaws with it
You hit the nail on the head. Other anime like Demon Slayer, JJK, MHA, etc. are fun to watch, but they don't have the consistency and depth that HxH & FMA:B do. Characters with deep wounds, choices with real consequences, plot with interwoven threads, & themes with universal meaning. That's what makes a story rewatchable & great.
Exactly the same with Deadly Seven Sins for me. I struggled through season 1 and I tried so hard to watch the next season, but I couldn't force myself to get into it no matter what I did.
"It still fells like One Piece hasn't peaked." Gig's said this before over the years and I've always agreed with him. But uhh.... Anyone up to date with the recent chapters? Definitely feels like it's starting to peak now. Crazy to say that after 25 years.
Oda has his shortcomings for sure (e.g. fake deaths), but you gotta admit that no author has been as consistent as him at being a great mangaka. Like it isn't just being consistently good”, but consistently “great”. Even his bad arcs are actually good by many people's standards. And like Garnt said, it always seem like One Piece still hasn't reached its true peak despite many MANY amazing moments. Wano for me is the new peak. Latest chapters are really worthy of being called peak Shounen even if the manga as a whole isn't
I wouldnt say so. I know their are some people that are upset with the events that transpired in the most recent chapters. I disagree to an extent, I'm more upset about plot armor than anything. I still think the greatest arc is still to come based on the foreshadowing we have seen throughout the series.
I mean for 1044 people were so insanely hyped that in the OP Reddit they made like 3 different spoiler posts instead of the regular one. Yea Im with you, this is definitely A peak of one piece but when I think of whats still to come, idk if its the highest of peaks we will get to see, and thats why OP amazing.
Btw I have always thought you've made the most unique and also just funny af videos, a perfect blend of seriousness, genuineness, and still humorous throughout every video, perfectly balanced, as all things should be... Even when I was younger, say 14, and watched your videos I always thought you were a comedic genius, your videos hardly ever fail to make me laugh out loud, seriously, I feel you're a genius even if you wanna be humble, which I get
I don't think it counts that Bleach "Fell off" when they just stopped making it. You aren't judging other anime that stopped production by saying they fell off. Even though most said anime never earned bleach's legacy in the first place. Bleach is great, it was excellent for it's time and if they didn't stop production until now the shows legacy probably would have suffered, but here we are Bleach is standing tall yet again amongst current anime giants, even though it suffers due to the fact that most current anime viewers haven't seen original bleach and need to make a big commitment to catch up.
I do love that, despite its age and being overshadowed by its younger brother HXH, YuYu Hakusho is still heavily respected and held in high regard by anime/manga fans as a flawed masterpiece. Watched it for the first time earlier this year and loved it - I agree with everything you said.
I watched Inuyasha for the first time a few years ago and loved it. But I think the crucial point is that Inuyasha is both a shounen and a shoujo slice-of-life. If you go into it expecting that, the "filler" just becomes fun, feel-good slice-of-life goodness. In that light I think Inuyasha is a great show.
Yeah marathoning Inuyasha feels like a slog, that show was perfect as a "Before school" kind of deal. It is truly a slice of life anime that also happens to have some sick action.
@@lobserionia Naraku is a pay wall made villain. "You see Inuyasha, to progress further you need to break this barrier, but to do so you need to upgrade your sword." *Inuyasha spends 50 chapters getting that upgrade* "Good job Inuyasha, now for the next barrier..."
Inuyasha is one of my lowest rated shows. From about episode 35 to somewhere in the low 100s (I think around 112), basically nothing happens even if you skip all the filler. It repeats the same plot point like 3 times and neither the story or the romance really go anywhere, it just stagnates.
Hearing garnt put air gear above mid made my day. It is very underated and still hope eventually a decent studio will pick it up and continue where the original anime left off.
the music and fight choreography was really cool. After I picked up the manga Air Gear became really serious and totally surprised me with its story development. For me it’s definitely a 8,5/10
Look, the dragon ball thing I can totally agree with when you take modern dragonball into consideration. But, if you look at the impact dragonball has made in the world, it is hands down the greatest anime ever. It is the reason anime is so big in the US, it is the reason Shonen anime exists, it is the inspiration for Naruto and luffy, and goku was even the national mascot for the Tokyo Olympics. Dragonball is THE anime. And if you actually take OG dragonball and GT into account, it is THE anime in Japan. Just ask anyone over there if they can still remember the theme song for GT...
Hajime no ippo is one of the reasons i started boxing, 6 years in and i still rewatch it from time to time. @@Clan_Killer Absolutely, I fucking love Megalobox 2, but it is a shame that it went under the radar for a lot of people, specially compared to season 1. Everyone talked about Season 1, but for season 2, which i believe is a step up from it, not a single soul mentioned it. It makes me really sad. I think it is just destined to be a hidden gem. If anyone reads this, i beg of you, watch Megalobox 1 and 2, it's not just a good sports anime, it's a good anime. The struggle to survive in a world where you are nothing and slowly make it to the top on Season 1, to lose it all and see how you can carry on when you are at the absolute bottom on Season 2 is worth watching.

Anime still goes hard too

My brain get heat from thinking(i dont know how to explain it, so just leave it like that)
I love e21 characters.
Loving the love for Ippo. When I worked in Japan, everyone in my office knew it, and we talked breathlessly about it. 😁

10. Luffy stops doffy from killing law
9. Luffy defeats katakuri
8. Luffy loses his entire crew on sabaody

6. Straw hats hold up their x’s for vivi
5. Nothing Happened

Magi is such an underrated shounen anime. More people need to really give that one a shot.

And the Manga was so epic as well.
People should at least give the prequel "Magi: Adventure of Sinbad" a try, it has all the best elements of the show and manga in only 13 episodes! Magi is peak anime and manga!
@@jesusofsuburbia3675 Out of curiosity, what did you think of the ending of Magi (If you've read it)? Spoiler for the mid-portion of Magi I guess.

David Productions FTW
There is actually a reason for Tamaki's fanservice which gets explained in the manga
@@urmum6991 i don't care what the reason is, its annoying. Took a cool character and made her the generic fan service girl when she could've been really badass
The Fire Force anime is worth atleast 1 full watch in its entirety just for the production quality alone.
My bad for a long a** ramble, just felt inspired to share my appreciation lol.

I've never had any other anime any do that, so at that moment Jujutsu Kaisen became my favorite anime.
yeah, i saw him in the opening too and thought for sure that he would make it and join itadori since this is a shonen...
Oh I was still thinking this. Only now realized that maybe Junpei is actually dead
yup i 100% did not expect junpei to die. in terms of devastation i was right there with itadori
Tbh it felt more of a scam to me since he has a better backstory than most characters in the show. Killing off well written characters while leaving tropey generic characters leaves a bad taste in my mouth
Honestly that freaking hurt the shit out of me, but it only made JJK even more enjoyable for me. It pretty much stood itself as a different series compared to others airing at that time bc of that
But damn it to hell as a manga reader, to think that Junpei's death is only scratching the surface of Gege's plan to mentally fuck with Yuji is just so depressing

And Magi?!?!

Better near the end of the 1000 episodes 💀💀
Are you fucking high ? Introduce me to your dealer.
He clearly died and revived thanks to his "god" fruit.
false, one piece peaked at marineford and went downhill from there, one piece is vastly overrated.

As someone who read the manga for Haikyuu, the ending was absolutely amazing and 100% deserves to be on peak mid tier for sure. One of the greatest shonen series ever made tbh especially in the sports genre.
Nothing infront of Slam Dunk tho
I always say the same thing the manga's ending is soooo good it easily is on par with slam dunk as the best sports manga (haven't seen hajime no ippo tho)
Guess what everyone's taste is subjective, so no it does not deserve peak mid tier in my opinion atleast. Its a good manga/ anime but for sure.

Season 6 of MHA is definitely going to go CRAZY. As a manga reader, I've enjoyed it immensely. I'm glad your opinion on Black Clover has changed since your original videos.
MVA Arc was already pretty crazy in terms of raw violence and bloodshed.
@@diamondhamster4320 lol just you wait
what’d you think of the more recent manga arc?(post raid) I’ve felt kinda let down.
MHA is bottom mid
I gotta say, I loved Black Clover from the first season.
But after the Elf restoration arc, there were so many fillers until it moved into the Devil arc when they go to the Heart kingdom to train.
Other than the fillers, ESPECIALLY THE LAST 12 EPISODES, it was fucking insane.
What i liked about BC is that everyone there has his issues and personal problems. There is no "perfect" person in this anime, you can see everyones good sides right besides his bad attitudes. That makes characters more human, like a lot of One Piece characters.
I just love how the show was executed. It's so hype, hilarious and badass

Judging all of dragon ball as one entity is definitely unfair, regardless of the final tier given. Dragon ball is something vastly different than Z, DBS is something vastly different from the old DB/DBZ as well (most would agree it's much shitter). Especially when Jojo is divided into like 6 parts

Exactly, if you're rating all of DB as a series it's atleast above mid imo, and without DBS i would put it at high mid.
@@bigenson18 keywords: you would
A problem I think with the dragon ball anime is that it's really the most fun to watch when it's just dumb fun fighting but it would've been way too expensive to do that and make it look good which explains the insane amounts of filler but it does deliver when it comes to the actual fight
Honestly big w I just subbed
There was an anime adaptation that came before the Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters anime that fans like to call Yu-Gi-Oh season 0, which never made it to the west, but the manga is honestly so much better.
i am a yugioh player, so rewatching yugioh is actually so painful cuz they are not playing by the rules and the "genius" strategies are painfully obvious. so if the manga barely focuses on the game, it is a god send.
i sometimes still think about the ferris wheel bomb arc in yugioh and think to myself damn this was really put in a kids manga
I read that firs part and was really surprised, how different it was from the series. Definitely recommend it. It was super interesting

HxH writing is out of this world, peak shonen indeed.
Fma is overrated af
@@cryptomillionaire3272 Stop the cap sir. Name a show that's written better. I'll give you HxH and Berserk
Exactly the same with Deadly Seven Sins for me. I struggled through season 1 and I tried so hard to watch the next season, but I couldn't force myself to get into it no matter what I did.
i like it so much tho :(
By the end of the 52nd episode I've realized Seven Deadly Sins was the worst thing I've ever forced myself through. I wish I had dropped it earlier.
Wano is up there with Marineford, idk if its as good as enies lobby but its def close. What gets me going is the final war is going to be even better
@@leesanction2068 Wouldn't be One Piece without half the fanbase being upset over it. I think the trope was very earned.

It was one of my first animes and I loved it lol
One of the bad issues with Inuyasha is the amount of tine the main villain flees every time when he had a fight, it is really repetitive and boring.
@@lobserionia Naraku is a pay wall made villain. "You see Inuyasha, to progress further you need to break this barrier, but to do so you need to upgrade your sword."
*Inuyasha spends 50 chapters getting that upgrade*
"Good job Inuyasha, now for the next barrier..."
For me it’s definitely a 8,5/10
With the current state of the anime industry, it ain't getting a new season
Look, the dragon ball thing I can totally agree with when you take modern dragonball into consideration.
But, if you look at the impact dragonball has made in the world, it is hands down the greatest anime ever. It is the reason anime is so big in the US, it is the reason Shonen anime exists, it is the inspiration for Naruto and luffy, and goku was even the national mascot for the Tokyo Olympics. Dragonball is THE anime.
And if you actually take OG dragonball and GT into account, it is THE anime in Japan. Just ask anyone over there if they can still remember the theme song for GT...
