    It is an amazing hose reel! You introduced me to Eley in an old video. Since then I've added two more, one with wheels and upgrade the original with their updated swivel pipe. Everyone asks about them, and I hesitate before answering because I forget they are Eley, so I just say they are from OG!

    That original ELEY video is one of the first videos that brought me to the channel. I was flipping the through the Northern Tool catalog for a rolling reel and just knew they were all junk. I ponied up the cash a few years back and got an ELEY hose reel with two 60' Griot's water hose because I needed more than a hundred feet and the black matched well. I immediately swapped out for the OG inlet hose because I could customize the distance too.

    If you're installing any more of those concrete anchors, tapping the anchor fully into the drilled hole before placing the screw in it will allow the anchor to set more securely. The screw causes the anchor to expand to the point that it will become tight when fully seated and it won't free spin. Hope the tip helps...still owe you about a thousand more for all I've gotten from the channel.

    A 3/4" size would be ideal for us professionals who have to drain water heaters and pump out flooded areas to access for work. Not all hoses are used for watering gardens. You're also likely to find more willing spenders for higher quality goods if they use them for work.

    By all means - this isn't a correction, you do you. But those backflow preventers are there for when a firetruck connects to a water source, turns on the pump, and begins to pull large volumes of water out of the city supply. The pump on the truck is powerful enough to cause negative pressure to surrounding homes and entire neighborhoods (if multiple trucks are connected, it's not uncommon for the effects to be seen nearly a mile away from the scene). That device prevents contaminated water from being sucked up into your homes drinking water, or worse, the supply to the neighborhood. For hose reals used outside, around plants/pesticides/fertilizers, the risk far outweighs the benefit, IMO.
    I'm sure you knew this, and are ok with the risks, but others should know how dangerous that really is. Love the videos, love your store, love your products. So please don't take offense to this.

    Okay: some concerns I have; most everything I needed to see was concealed and he stood between the hose and camera which didn’t help. I’m still a bit troubled with the ‘jumper’ hose that comes from the tap on the wall and goes into the body of the reel and connects to the elbow to feed the water into the long hose. I’m wanting to get the 4 wheel cart so that I can pull it around to wherever I want. If I use the 6.5 foot jumper connection, how does that work if I want to move the cart further away from the water source? If I want to move the mobile reel further, how do I feed the water source to the elbow connection point on the reel? Am I missing an idea here? Because isn’t the point of buying the 4 wheel free moving reel to take it to different places? Also I feel awkward about that blue hose that would be used in place of the ELEY hose. He said it doesn’t kink but that is the very first thing it did. Can someone tell me what the advantage would be to use the blue hose instead of the Eley hose? I’m looking at $1,000 of parts from Eley in my shopping cart at their site. I want to be able to move that cart around.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Eley has a 6.5', 12', and 20' inlet hose option. The Continental Frontier hose is much, much thicker being rubber instead a hybrid poly. It also does grab itself when winding up. The hose won't kink like the Eley does. It naturally unkinks as you pull on it.

  • @andrewtallman
    @andrewtallman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Matt, was this 100’ or 125’ of hose? Eley’s website shows standard capacity for this unit as 125’ (you mentioned 100’ in the video). However I like how this quantity of hose looks on the reel spool.

    When your rewinding, bring the end of the hose back to the reel first so you’re only dragging half of it as you rewind. Also keeps the hose end or spray nozzle from being drug across the concrete driveway.😳

    • @themightysquid

      Excellent point! I’ve been doing that in my driveway for years. My reason was that our rubber hose kept getting caught behind the tires. So now I got a new hose that doesn’t crimp and curl, and bring it into the garage and roll it, and it doesn’t scrape the nozzle.

    While Eley makes great Reels, I do think a 5/8" retractable hose would be a more OG Solution. Hose Link does a decent job but uses subpar hoses that are too small and the quick connects they use are great for granny in the garden but not for us. That said, my grandma loves hers and has used it countless times over the last 3 years. I've only had to replace parts for the actual fittings once.
