    I bought some sisal rope at Lowe's, wrapped it around the leg of my piano and had an INSTANT scratching post. My friend came over and saw it and loved it. I took my leftover rope to her house and wrapped it around a back leg of her kitchen table, a leg no one sees, and another INSTANT scratching post. That was over 10 years ago. Mine is used daily and still going strong. Keep it simple, folks.

    Unlike some other rude commenters, I loved the length of this vid and all of your musings throughout! It makes a change to find one of these where the person isn't a near expert at the DIY. It's great that you gave this a go and your furbies obviously approve so thanks for posting 😸.

    Thanks for the great idea. Loved seeing your cat wanting to help.the carpet is one of my cat"s favorite to scratch and roll on. You are right, some cat tools i bought at walmart didn"t last long.

    That molding is called a quarter round, used to trim out baseboard with a hard surface flooring.
    It’s a good height, and when the cats shred the rope, you’ll be able to replace it instead of tossing it.
    You did a good job. Measured way too much for something like this. Draw a line diagonally corner to corner, and the intersection of the two lines is always your center. Do it on both sides of the board, and you’ll be able to center your drill holes perfectly. No fuss, no bother.
    Put that raw side to the wall, and nobody will be the wiser. Good, sturdy scratcher. You’ll have happy cats!

    Ragdolls are my fav of all time. I’ve never had a cat in my life, but I have always felt sort of ‘spiritually connected’ to the species in some way. In three weeks I will be bringing home my new female blue lynx mink Ragdoll kitten, who is currently just four weeks old. I am going to name her Piper. CATS RULE!!!

    I wondered if having the carpet underneath would cause it to be less secure to stay in one place? I love the height of the post, I love that you did it, and I think I could do it, even without being "handy". I agree the rulers of the home places, need the height to stretch and scratch. Thank you for sharing.

      Jasen made a video about it th-cam.com/video/9ZrRDNWeZuQ/w-d-xo.html
      It's also the same brand of fountain I have for my cat.

      @@Genin99 Thanks for your response! I love the sounds of a water fountain and I could hear it in his video, just couldn't see it. If you watch Community Cats she also has this fountain in her kitten room and it sounds awesome. My 6 cats are going to love it...me too. Hope the replacement filters are too expensive and easy to find.

      Once I started feeding them only canned food, they no longer want their fountain water :( But the point behind the canned food was to keep them hydrated enough that they won't (my boy) end up with a clogged urethra. Also I read that dried cat food is superheated and it forms carcinogens from that. So no more dry, even though it's SO much cleaner, cheaper & easier.

    If you lay a straight edge from corner to corner and mark a line near the middle then do the same on opposite corners and where the lines intersect is the middle. No measuring ;-)

  • @ronyerke9250

    If you're not going to whip the ends of the rope, you might want to start and end with a staple. You don't really need a cap if you can saw a bevel on the top end of your post. Got a circular or table saw?

    • @CatsandPats
      @CatsandPats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a mitre saw for christmas, and have a handheld circular saw. What do you mean by whip the ends of the rope?

    • @ronyerke9250
      @ronyerke9250 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CatsandPats it's a treatment campers and sailors use to prevent the rope from unraveling. It works like the plastic tips on a shoelace, but using string or monofilament fishing line. There are several videos around YT if you want to see what I'm talking about. Just search WHIP(PING) ROPE.

    I would definately use a hot glue gun for the rope and tightly wrap and glue parts as you go to keep it tight, as you can see when the cat scratches it the rope is very loose in areas. But a helpful video thanks :)

    Suggestion: I’d edit out a lot of the side comments you make to ultimately make your videos shorter, you probably could have had a straight forward 10-15 minute vid instead of 27 minutes.
