It always takes a while for them to warm up to a big new thing. But some funny advice: sit by the wheel and show them TH-cam videos of cats using the wheel. I have literally had my cat looking back and forth from the laptop screen to the wheel, connecting what she saw the TH-cam cat doing to her wheel. Eventually she started going to the wheel and using it on her own without me doing any training. I also moved a favorite chair of hers near the wheel so she would sleep in the chair and by right next to the wheel all the time. I read so much about training cats to use these wheels, but in the end it was just TH-cam and moving her bed nearby that did all the work.
I had a cat learn to sleep in the laundry from watching an older cat do it. We took forever putting the laundry away and piper is a professional napper. She chose this spot as her napping grounds for a few days during which a younger cat just kinda... watched. After a few days i finally saw her in the laundry basket looking judgmental.
We got our cats one of these and it took a few days before they really got used to it. Originally, we got it for our new kitten who had SO much energy. She used it pretty faithfully for about a year, until she got to full size and she got so big (not fat, just long) that the wheel may not be quite big enough for her to comfortably use. A few years later, our oldest (but smallest) cat still uses it every night - at about 2 or 3am... It sounds like a large noisy truck idling in the living room when she gets going really fast, but at least she is getting regular exercise...
They should make a cat wheel that looks exactly like a Star Gate. And maybe as the cat runs on it you can start getting some chevron's to light up. Once all 7 light up maybe have like the gate open sound effect and a cat treat drops out. lol
@@johnthomas1422 I lived with 9 cats during my youth. After the first 3 years of their life they all eventually wind up just laying around in the same spot all day doing nothing. lol.
Beat me by 3 hours! I saw on the "Spoonful Of Ragdolls" channel a year or two ago where they used a laser pointer to get INSTANT participation from their cats! I hope these folks got a better wheel since this vid. The Korean cat channels I watch all have better made wheels where the only assembly is putting the wooden single-piece wheel on the wood base. They're wider and more stable than this snap-together plastic nonsense!
My cats and dogs fight when I bring out the laser pointer and it causes high anxiety for both dogs and cats idk but I would rather not put that stress and anxiety on any of my animals
I cannot believe your cats have taken to the wheel at least I see one cat has definitely taken to the wheel I have four cats and I just bought the wheel and I have tried everything from feathers to treats to catnip and the list goes on but I will not give up I am going to buy some churros which is a cat treat in a squeezable tube next
Just saw this. First thought was the cat was getting more calories from the treats to entice him to walk than the actual exercise burned from walking…..
Seeing the fur babies enjoying the “free “ box reminds me of buying $10 worth of “toys “ for my kittens long ago. As cats do, and why I love them, they ignored the toys and batted the crumpled sales receipt around until they tired themselves out. Don’t ya just love cats!!! Oh, later , my White GS figured the stuffed toys were his and… yep…they were gone in a matter of minutes while the receipt still lived!!
My Ragdoll is the laziest kitty ever! The only thing I can get her to play with anymore are balls, granted she’s 11 but still full of vitality. She would sniff it all over then walk away with disdain, preferring the box it came in just like yours 😂
This video helped me out a lot and I have four cats and just bought the wheel and they are outsmarting me even more treats but supposedly it takes up to a year to train them to use this thing
i have had this for a few years now, and my female cat took to it in days, running full gallop. Years later the boys just couldn’t get the rhythm to run at full pace. All of the cats prefer it stand next to the wheel while they use it, unless it is 2:30am and they are using is by themselves waking me up wondering, “what’s that strange noise” as the are walking on it. It helped all my cats get to a healthier weight and reduced a little aggression until they realized they could fight over the treadmill too. so daily the cats take turns laying on the treadmill as if they are just squatting on it to prevent the other cats a turn, like when you go to the gym and people just occupy a machine but don’t really use it, just play on their phones, just my cats haven’t figured out how to open their own TH-cam account and upload videos or they would be doing that too.
Funny! My cats would probably think it's hammock, too, lol. That poor (cute!) floppy haired dog...I'd cut the front of that dog's hair, even though that's the way they're supposed to look. My bro & sis-in-law had a Bouvier, & they kept the hair in front shorter, & he was SO cute -- you could actually see his beautiful eyes! That would have to be very annoying. But good for you two, getting the exercise wheel for your kitties!
My cats love it, 3 of the 4 anyways. They have "wheel wars" and try and knock each other out of the wheel. My kitten actually spun a full 360 in one of the wheel wars lol
They never show the fact that they have to use a laser in the ads. I have only seen big wild cats actually use these things. At least they enjoyed the box.
The best toy for most cats is a high shelf-runway - cats love to climbe up high. If your cats need a warm spot to sleep on they can always sleep on a shaggy dog. I used to live on a farm and the farm cats usually slept on the back of a cow during milking.
Try using a laser pointer to entice them. Move it from the base upward to about 2/3 up the curve. It will take them a little while to find the wheel fun but then you'll hear them using it in the middle of the night and have to get up to see what the noise is! :)
We tried a little, but none of our cats really care about the laser pointer for some reason. I'll try getting them interested in it more and see if it works, thank you!
Hey, maybe y’all should add led lights and numbers like the wheel on Price is Right, they could win prizes and you could use it when your friends come over to play games! 😂❤
I wonder if there would be a way to mount a laser pointer aimed about halfway up the curve and would wiggle a little as the cat tries to move towards it. That might just do the trick.
I wish to comment. My cat got fat and lazy and onset diabetes. The vet told me to add some moist food with my dry food. That was amazing. My cat lost weight rather quickly. He never gained it back and It prevented him from going into full diabetes. If you think about it. Dry food is carbs and that is why animals and people gain weight.
@@takethevongwayhome type "cat amazing" on amazon, maybe you already know it, but that keeps my cats interested and somewhat more active and at the same time they will not swallow whole kibbles without chewing them. Had a few accidents when they just swallow food.
@@takethevongwayhome No, it would be too frustrating for the cats. There are also cats that will only try something new if another cat tries it first. 🙂
