Let's see...this was a non-clickbait video with a cheap, easy project that requires no power tools, little money, and not much carpentry skill. Checks all the boxes for me! Thank you for sharing this with us.
We live in this place for year now and we dont have any furniture except kitchen and bad, because i want to try make it by myself but i dont have much time :D thats a dark side of handyman. I can, but just need time
@@craftzars The life of a DIYer in a nutshell. "I want to make ALL the things". Haha. Every time someone in my household wants to buy something, I always say "I can make that", and I can, but actually finding the time to make the stuff is the challenge.
Wow what a great idea! Very simple and easy to scale up or modify. Only the base/foot should be larger or heavier to prevent tipping. Piling rocks beyond a certain height won't make it more stable, just heavier. Can't wait to try this!
Thank you for sharing this! Loved the fact that you got straight to the point without too much talking, and that you showed the process in a simple and easy-to-follow way. Saving this for future reference and subscribing for more!
You genius. I have been racking my brains trying to think of a cheap way to make an extra-stable cat tree not like the ones I have purchased over the years that have cardboard cores. I replaced our old wooden banister with a modern one and was thinking of using that pole, but this is way better. Damn, brilliant ! I have the welding solution already, all I need is a few inexpensive PVC drain pipe parts and some rope!
@@Lee.Willcox As I mentioned in other comments, I recommend that you think about mounting with a base. This method, with a few screws through the pipe cap, is not the most stable So I kept mine in the corner so it wouldn't fall over. But it also depends on how crazy the cat is.
@@brittgoossens3427 100%, great idea. Mine will be tall. floor to ceiling so I will attach it to the wall with screws. Half way up and at the top. Cheers !
It looks good but from my experience when wrapping a post with the rope, you need good tension on the rope and a glue below it (I use double-sided tape over the whole post) to keep it in place when the cat goes to scratch it. With just dabs of hot glue I can see it all falling apart. Cats can be strong.
Cant see in video because of edit, but there is glue on every round, so when cat tear one round so it dont collapse fully. Yeah double sided tape sound easy solution, but I don't think that such a rope will hold better than a glue gun
All the other DIY cat trees shown on TH-cam look very complicated. Your cat tree is perfect for my skill set. I happen to have a glue gun, but for PVC pipping I might buy PVC glue. The rocks for stability is perfect , simple and genius.
I liked that transition! And this was great because my cat DOES NOT like big cat trees and all that stuff but this was very simple and easy so thank you!
Thanks for the idea! I was looking at cat trees to get for my gf cat but the top shelf for them to sit on is always too small. I thought it would be simple to make myself. PVC pipe is a great alternative to wood and probably a lot cheaper.
Ohhh. So wood would be expensive.? I'm thinking I could put something acceptable together. I am not, in any way, going to pay 300 bucks for a car tree!
A straight man's way of doing cat tree. Nice and simple! The tube's cap actually is the best solution for the cat tree, I've seen many of others, either too complicated or too fragile. And filling stone into the pipe... that was just...awesome straight guy's solution! Salute!
I have 2 cat trees, both kind of old. I recent!y took one apart so it could fit in the garbage can. I'm glad I saw this video before trash pick-up day. The cheapest replacement was around $70. Now I will just renovate the one I was about to toss. I'll just need to find some of that fur fabric.
great job brilliant idea. congratulations you were really good ! i was looking for something that would inspire me to make one for my lissy, i really liked that . hello barbara .
thank you for this video!! i was searching for a diy of how to build a cat scratching post with pipes but could only find it with wood! im gonna make this this week! thanks a lot
Good luck with your scratch post. :) my cat use it every day. Sometimes lazy way - sleeping on that middle shelf and scratching nails without getting up. I was using hot glue for every round of rope, so if cat destroy rope, it does not unwind all the way. My build is good only in corner, because its quite high and base cant provide stability. Need to redesign litle bit. Probably cut round circle in base and post tube through. Or put round plywood in tube , screw around and then screw to base. :)
Well, great job but I have 2 big toms and frankly I think they could pick that up and haul it to the next room. But ty for sharing. Great for small cats!
IF you want to avoid the cutting part of "preparing the pipes" you Can find pipes without the lips on them like these have. Just a thought. IDK about in EUR areas. Here in the states though you can find a ton of different styles/sizes. Some large enough to do cat tunnels if you wanted.
im building this but with my own little twist, adding a hiding box in the bottom and putting the top part at roughly 2m so the cats can overlook their kingdom. wish me luck fellas!
- Agreed. Perhaps, should’ve cut circle in center carpet so the joint lays flushed with the board, and then hot glue down to base along with the 5 screws. ?
Thanks for the idea. Personally, I'd rather use power tools to make it happen in a quarter of the time but I get that your point was a basic construction method. Nice video
A wider base would make this cat tree more stable. I would use 4x4 fence posts instead of the plumbing parts which are more expensive. I liked the fluffy material used instead of carpet on the base and shelves. With some elastic sewn around the edges, they could have been removable for washing. Some 2 inch foam on the shelves would have been nice. Great project. Now, how about building a Catio ?
I had catio on last appartment with balcony. In summer i changed balcony doors panel with plastic un cut there hole and cat have access to catio 24/7 photos.app.goo.gl/jaCwsPCK7LRoTLAo8 but now i live in second floor without balcony and cant build it.

@craftzars or just add more weight to the base ( fill it up with sand or something)
Ow never mind you did that

If the base was a wider it would be more sturdy. Great video. Thanks for the glue gun farts. Funny.
glue gun farts hahahahaha
I don't think all the fart noises were from the glue gun
I love how this video was done. Those sound effects make it.

The only thing I would suggest the base be as wide as the whole tree.

Yeah pvc glue will be much better, hot glue dont bond pipe very good, thats why i put there some screws too.

Maine coons are very big cats, then you need to figure out more stable base.
@@craftzars Oh yes, of course. I have only found 1 tree big enough for them now but they only turned a year old. They have 3 more yrs to grow.
