This is great. I would add: some protective gloves if you, like me, are allergic to the CLP fluids that are used to clean the weapons. My hands were already too dry and swollen; then when they came in contact with the CLP, my fingers swelled up and were painful. I could not use my cell phone fingerprint ID for about a month afterwards, due to the swelling on my finger pads!

For Mod 3 you say around the 27 minute mark of this video that officers in training may be awarded with a weekend off base if all goes well. But in so saying you imply NCMs, with the shorter training window are not eligible for such an award. Is that accurate? I know someone in Mod 2 hoping to do Mod 3 soon and am looking at logistics of meeting up with them before, on weekend during or after training if possible. It seems before and after would hinge around military issued prearranged travel plans we would have no control over. And are likely not to involve off base civilian accommodations at any point. Is that accurate? If they are not allowed off base on weekends, are civilians allowed to visit trainees in Valcartier? Or would that conflict too much with weekend activities? What about the graduation ceremony at the end? I appreciate the content and commitment to clear accurate information. Thanks,
Thank you for the excellent detailed question. NCMs do not get a weekend off during the course, and visitors are not allowed. Guests are normally invited to the graduation parade. The best time to plan to get together will be immediately after graduation. Usually the flight is the following morning and graduates will be allowed to get accommodations off base the night of graduation. Hope this helps!!

There are designated smoking areas. You will have limited time to smoke, but it is allowed. It will be difficult to get to a store to buy more cigarettes so I would recommend bringing enough for the entire course. For us it was a large sea container where everyone had to put all items that were not in the kit list. You got access to it for very limited time. I would recommend against it, but technically you could.
It is issued before Basic Training. In the Reserves in Canada we do Basic Training primarily in the summer to accommodate for high school and university students. So you have some time as a member to be issued your kit before BMQ. In the Regular Force you would be issued your kit at BMQ.

Yes, everything shown is provided including t-shirts. When I joined you even got underwear but I'm not sure if they do that anymore. O was issued gym shorts and sweats as well, but most people wear their own gym clothes now so I'm not sure if they still do that. Some people buy their own gear for higher quality or specialized items, but most of the time what they provide is good enough.

@@CGYBLACKBEAR Financial situation is taken into consideration for security purposes. It becomes an issue if an applicant has a financial situation that raises concerns regarding liability that could affect security clearance. Deciding where that bar is is above my pay grade.
Honestly it will vary depending on the staff. With the new dress regulations Oakleys should be allowed, but sometimes instructors are extra strict on BMQ. And an electric toothbrush shouldn’t be a problem, but I would bring a regular one as backup. Charging it could be a pain. Worst case scenario, anything you bring that is not allowed you can lock up in civilian lock up and have access to it on leave days, so I say go for it.
You will be issued the green army kit bag, you do not need to purchase your own. You can bring your luggage in any type of bag. On your first day your luggage will be put into civilian lockup, and all of your military kit will be stored in your issued kit bag and barrack box for the course.

Inspections are admittedly easier on this course (compared to my experience in Borden 2005) with no hospital corners etc and less orders of dress to maintain (they don't have any boots to spit polish), but also presents different challenges because it's harder to keep clean. They are still formed up next to bunks for inspection of uniform, quarters, and weapons. Training for NCM BMQ mod 3 residential 3 week courses run all spring/summer from May - Aug each year.
On the NCD shirt, sometimes I see people wearing the NAVY / MARINE badge on the side opposite their name tag. Most of the time that area has no badge. I'm curious to know why some people have it and some don't?

In the current structure with the 3 modules, the ceremonial uniform is issued after graduation at your home unit. Grad parades at camp vimy were done in Naval Combat Dress.
Every school is going to be slightly different. Where I was teaching we were not strict on personal toiletries. When enrolling in the Reserves it is an "Indefinite period of service" meaning you voluntarily release at any time. The caveat is that you can be called into service in case of an emergency for 1 year.
Being clean shaven is no longer compulsory in the CAF in general. However there are some operational situations where you must be clean shaven, and you must still be clean shaven for Basic Military Qualification. You can request a religious accommodation for a beard.

If your living in modular tents what are the inspections like sir? Also when is the training usually for NCM's 3 week course.

When the Navy / Marine patch first came out there was a brief period were it was to be sewn on the NCD shirt. It is now to be on the NCD jacket only.

I never did figure it out. It didn't seem to matter, the field clothing is not strict like the clothing in camp to have everything perfect.

I have always used Kiwi brand black shoe polish. Some people also use Kiwi parade gloss. I don't often see anyone using anything else.
