They ask for your high school diploma equivalency from your foreign country to Canada. Most of our countries have a dated system. It will require a trip back home, ($$$) then once back in canada, pay ($$) a recognized agency to then have your equivalency converted to canadian standards. so there are still roadblocks. You have people who have worked in canada as managers and have different valid certifications in different fields but don't have their high school transcripts. There's limited flexibility given to the recruiter.
Aptitude...not required. Dress and deportment...not required...anxiety from the thought of being tested on something? No problem, you'll make a great warfighter...
I did the test and the math and logic portions are not what I am used to and my major was 70% algebra, stats, and calculus. It wasn't hard, but it was quite strange. So it makes sense that if you fit that category you don't have to do it

Yes it is probably security clearance holding up your application. Good luck and stick with it! They are backed up but still being processed and should come through eventually.

This is a huge help since I failed my cfat because I graduated 6 years ago so I haven't done the math in 6 years and for the life of me cant seem to remember even with a full year of studying done on my own. Kinda lost hope of being able to join but since this the expedited application trial is happening I'm hopeful I can get in its been a Childhood dream to become a combat engineer as i was told stories about my great grandfather who was a combat engineer in ww2 and unfortunately died in the battle of Kursk
If you cannot pass a simple aptitude test, it's not a math issue, You could have prepared for the test as they give you plenty of resources to help. Unlike you wanted to be a trade that you're score precludes you from even then they should have offered options that fit your score. Or if you are a white straight male they are not wanted. And they will just use whatever reason to get rid of you.
@@Fraser_Noble it's a math issue I was told directly I failed the math and the orther 2 sections I passed and like I said I practiced for a full year so stop assuming you know anything when you dont

No, it's not a salary issue, in Nov. 2022 to Nov 2023 , 21,147 male and female applied only 77 was processed, the process is slow, and limited. People are not deterred by salary, the short fall right now is opening the gate a little wider and giving the pilot projects they are trying a little and longer stretch to work. I live in NB and there's really no education on the army. I see alot of irrelevant commercials on TV nothing about our arm forces.
The forces reached out to me for a civil engineering role. The highend of the payscale was a 20k paycut from what I currently earn. Its a salarynissue.
didn't end up becoming a naval warfare officer reserve because that trade appears to be closed right before my enrollment. now i'm a logistics officer in the army reserve. many thanks to fraser ! you are a really informative recruiter.
Great video! I'm headed to my first interview in April and am very excited. I'm interested in skipping these 2 tests as both my chosen career (Infrantry Officer)and university degree seem to fit the criteria. I've been told that the decision will be made on the spot once I've met with the recruiters, and they look at my documents.
Deterrent is an gross understatement, I haven't taken the cat since 2013 (I think) and I'm not in the military but this is the first question I remember in it Sally can read 4 pages in her book in 4 minutes, how many more words can she read given another 4 minutes A: 200 B: 400 C: 600 D: 800 Test was loaded with trick questions like this so I never took it again.
I scored high on the CFAT but refused to get the jabs. I wanted to be an infanteer but in order to fo anything besides sweep the floor; you have to be 'up to date with your vaccinations'

So far in my recruiting process I have found the only way to get anything done is to actually go to the recruiting office in person. Phone calls go nowhere, emails are not replied to, the online application program of the forces website is broken to the point it wouldn't even let me enter my primary phone number. If your serious about joining the only way is to get down to a recruiting office.
Yes the Minister is correct its a death spiral. How about doing what worked in the past? 2006-11 the CAF was in Force Expansion footing and doubled intake targets, launched a team of specialists and connected with Canadians by focusing on influencers in colleges and community leaders. By 2013 the CAF had exceed personnel levels and shut down the program.

Did DGPR even engage the certain trades to find out if they were okay putting aside the CFAT? I'm Cbt Engr, and our MES specifically states the minimum score required. So someone joins, chooses Cbt Engr, goes on BMQ but doesn't score high enough for the trade, then what? Certain trades on the list, Cbt Engr NCM or officer, or Arty officer are math heavy.
At 0:50 you mentioned not being privy to info because you're a reserve recruiter. What was all the long/overflogged security clearance and delays for when the very reservists won't get pertinent access to info available to the rest of their trade? - dont know if things like this are right or intentional Shocking to say the least.
Reserve recruiters work at their local units rather than the recruiting centres. They are not always the best at disseminating information. Also, like I said this program does not apply to the reserves, so it wasn’t essential for us to have it right away.
Security Clearance is backed up for everyone. This CBC article may have some insight: www.cbc.ca/news/politics/permanent-resident-military-applications-enrolment-1.7116469
Hi! I have an allergy to certain nuts and I am required to carry an epi pen wherever I go. I recently completed my medical whuch was the LAST step in my application process and i was told “the forces usually does not admit people with epi pens” and there is a high chance my application will be denied. I believe this is unjust and not fair since i have had this allergy from birth and i feel being denied fully from the forces is unacceptable since it is my passion to join the CAF. Hopefully someone can answer this for me. Thanks.
Minimum operational standards state all CAF members must: “perform duties with minimal or no medical support; and perform effectively without critical medication.” In recent news stories I have heard that medical standards may be changing, but at the moment any condition (or allergy) that requires medication can disqualify you. www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/defence-administrative-orders-directives/5000-series/5023/5023-1-minimum-operational-standards-related-to-universality-of-service.html

Could you make a video on becoming a Naval Warfare Officer in the reserve? I've heard that they have to pretty much go full time for around 3 years before becoming fully qualified. A video or comment would be helpful in letting me know more about reserve NWOs and their commitments as well as civilian/school life balance
In the Reserve NWOs have to do 12 months total full time training over the first 5 years of their career in order to be fully trained/qualified. So 2-4 months of full time training per year as a summer job for 4-5 years. It is also sometimes possible to go on Regular Force courses and get the training with back to back modules/courses rather than spacing them out.
@@PrairieSailoranother question I have is that what kinds of things do naval reserve units do on weekend trainings? Are they required to go into the forest and set up tents like the army?
Is it true that the only positions that are being hired/recruited for are the ones listed as "In Demand". So if a trade doesn't say "In Demand" the likelihood of being hired is non-existent or you're on a waiting list for who knows how long.
That’s not necessarily true. In the Navy we are definitely hiring for Boatswain and Naval Combat Information Operator and they are not listed on the website as in demand. That is just an example, there are many more. In demand means we are shorter than usual, it does not need to be in demand to be hiring.
Not hard to pinpoint at all. Many are leaving because the institutional values no longer align with theirs. The military is becoming a mercenary organization filled with individuals not teams unified in sense of purpose, shared values, applied talents, demonstrated commitment to something more than their own advancement and their merit when called on to perform. So people leave and look for this elsewhere. DEI is a cancer that is eating the insides out of the military.

With or without CFAT; I think I will do just fine. 11 years of working as a Heavy-duty Mechanic and I have my Red Seal. I'm thinking between a Vehicle Technician or Mobile Support Equipment Operator as my career choice. I spoke to the recruiter and he was like, just apply, pass your CAF Fitness Test, medical and interview, then all good to go. Thanks for the awesome video with excellent information. :D
This was a very informative video. Not sure if you will see this. I’ve been feeling called towards military chaplaincy. Just curious, would that position need to do it? Have not done this kind of stuff for years. Would not do well probably. Any info would be great. Thank you.
It’s possible they met either of the following criteria: Meet the target occupation ideal entry standard.* Meet the necessary Scored Employment Application Form criteria.*
Hi! I applied to become a navy reservist. Why is it required to submit my high school credentials when I already have a masters degree from a canadian university? I applied both for an officer and ncm occupation. Thanks!
In my experience you cannot apply for an Officer and NCM at the same time, you will have to choose one. I recommend Officer due to your Masters degree. They asked for your high school because you applied for NCM. It is easiest for processing if you give the exact thing that is required in the policy and that is why they would ask, however it is not required. A higher level of education is acceptable, they just need to submit an education waiver.
I have another question😅 basically my story is I failed the imagery tech twice and now I want to take Cook and still the recruiter wanted me to take the CFAT. I am so scared to fail again multiple times, I am embarrassed to return again to show my face and saw that I failed 2 times and see me to do it for 3rd time . Can I just bypass and do my best in the basic training and military? I just want to have a stable job and respected job in the industry where my parents can be proud of me.
Hi, Can CAF's paid education programs be utilized for pursuing a physical therapy program in the United States, or are they only applicable to universities within Canada?
No, if you have written the CFAT once you are still eligible. If you have written it twice you are not. I explain this in the video during the questions near the end.
85 IQ is the legal cut off. Unless you want to be a specific trade. A lot of recruiters are looking for quota filling, oh and straight young white males are Not what they want to hire. Most of the issues is the recruiters do not know there jobs. The CAF is another Woke Federal Department, useless beyond belief. For all the guys who served back in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, it's been a purge since Trudeau took office on purpose. We do not have a military. Nor are they capable of doing anything.
Recruiter professionalism matters and appearance matters. The CAF's greatest strength was the ability to inspire people to believe in a higher purpose: a sense of service before self. It retained people by forging a sense of belonging in this and the other core values. The professionalism of the CAF was reflected in its members. The CAF has now fallen prey to individual identify and sub-group agendas which do not align to support the core mission and values of the organization but rather an outside external influence. The groups take precedence over the sense of being a member of the RCAF, the Navy or some other service branch sub-group (Logistics, Health Service Corps) which previously created belonging and a sense of purpose. Accentuating individual identify and difference will erode the common bond and unity when the time comes and it is critical for CAF effectiveness.

I applied to become a Boatswain with the Canadian Navy. They said because of my dual citizenship. The background processing may take up to a year. Is this the worst-case scenario? I grew moslty here in Canada, and i do have my citizenship. I arrived here at the age of 5.
Security Clearance is super backed up for everyone unfortunately. My advice is to stick it out and be patient, it should come through eventually and be worth it.
Even with your citizenship, the BC would still take a yr? Why can't Ottawa just open the doors to recruit more folks to procees applications and pressure agencies to complete the BCs within tighter timeframes?
Your videos are so informative. I have applied and my file showing final processing from last 3 weeks. Will be any bad impact on my file if I follow up with the recruiter ?
The best part about being a reservist musician is being able to say no to deployments, no to training, no to postings, not having to do entire courses at once, and only having to show up when you really want to while still getting most of the benefits associated with being in the military.

This is really interesting. You're the only person who said that they are skipping for regular force members not reserve forces. Personally I don't understand why they are doing it for some occupations and not others. If the Armed forces want more people to join, then they should not limit people with just degrees under their belt. I make more with my job then I get paid as a REG member. People come from various backgrounds and skills. Some people are faster some are slower than others. Good luck getting people to join. I won't be one them :)
INT O is on the list, but it also says it is for Direct Entry Officer (DEO) entry plan. I don’t know if you are eligible with ROTP, you will have to check with your recruiter.

I joined 2 years ago, great job, but not what you expect, at all. Get ready for a whole new world. The people that leave the CAF do so mostly because of boredom and lack of deployments in their career. It seems like they, the CAF, are changing things up to fix it.
@1anre my first time applying, I went through all the steps at my local reserve unit. Filled out all the paperwork, including medical. I was open and honest and simply put down generalized anxiety disorder. I did the CFAT and force test. Then, waited and waited and waited. Then, I received a letter stating they could not accept me at said time due to my anxiety disorder. I am now applying for a third time. Did everything again, paperwork, CFAT, and Force test. Had to have my doctor fill out a questionnaire asking if I've overcome and can cope with my anxiety, which is true. After the first rejection, I started working on myself. Went to therapy and group sessions, learned about anxiety, and how to cope with it. There have been moments when I have said I don't want to join anymore, but I keep coming back to it. I've always wanted to join the forces, and I feel pretty confident this time around, they'll say yes.
@PrairieSailor thanks! I have seen the medical list before. I was talking with my recruiter when I started the application again, and we talked a little bit about anxiety and stuff. She said she has anxiety, especially before going on an FTX or something. I am kind of glad they rejected me the first time because I did need to work on myself. As everyone says, sort out your personal stuff before basic. I feel way more comfortable and confident this time around.
This is kinda stupid. Why would i join if i went to school for something already? Going in to make less than i would working as a civilian plus you went to school so you alreadyhad something else in mind. Also I get the point of the test but i was in a room with 7 others and only 1 person passed. If their lowering standards why not remove the failing part for the only 3 jobs you pick and give them a list of jobs that their score can do. Alot of people would feel more comfortable with that rather then knowing you fail 3 times its over. If they said hey your score can get you these jobs like cook ammunition and weapons management whatever an individual might take a less desirable role and try again later to move to a different job.
Hello. I passed the interview and CFAT and now I'm waiting for the background check. Since I have a PR I was told that it could take 12 to 18 months. To tell the truth, this is a very long time and I don’t even know what to do if after years of waiting, my plans may change. Can I cancel the background check at any time?
You might as well let the security clearance finish. When it’s done you don’t have to join. I would agree that it’s impossible to know if you still be interested/available to do it in 12-18 months, but you might as well leave the option open. You can voluntarily withdraw your application at any time, including after security clearance is complete if you have found another job, or any other reason.

The CFAT isn't all that hard. Its the Maritime Officer Selection Test (MOST) that I struggled with. No prep or practice tests available for it. Has no real meaning to being an NWO as it mainly pertains to STD calculations that we don't really apply until NWO III.
How is it like being a reserve NWO? I heard that they have to go full time for around 3 years to fully qualify before going back to part time. Is this true?
This video reinforces how much standards in the CAF have fallen and why I, as a veteran, continue to strongly encourage young people NOT to join the CAF.
I believe the army should also.. give temporary residencies a chance to sign up,join army and once they have join they can now get there permanent resident or citizen from the army..
I think more people would join if the government in power didn’t upset the public as much as they do. I know that has nothing to do with your video, but non the less, great video and information! Personally ive always wanted to join and I appreciate yours and everyone who has served service, but one of the other reasons I hesitate is the fact how they keep making it easier, further weakening the people your serving with, each year and each generation. Personally, the harder it is, the more likely I would be to try.
Passing the CFAT in early Nov was a legit confidence boost as a 36 y/o fella who has been off the academic train for quite some time. I'm doing DEO, but now I'm starting to wonder if I could have picked something 'cooler' due to the weight being off of the CFAT. When I do a personal assessment, my actual ability (evidenced) I felt was as reflected in my score as I would have expected. I just hope the flooding of new people (including me) there is not a claw back in compensation or salary for currently serving and soon serving members.
We are getting a salary raise on 1 April 2024 actually. All CAF salaries are publicly available: www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/benefits-military/pay-pension-benefits/pay.html
So why didn't you try to join when it was as it's "hardest"? You realize the US military have adjusted standards to get more bodies into their armed forces? And for specialized roles where they can't get regular people to fill, they have adjusted to the able to poach top talent from the Civilian sector, even if it's to pay them x3 more, allow them serve part time and other perks. A military is of its people and must constantly adjust, so the ranks can have effective strength in both peace time and war time.

I’ve literally done the job in civilian world and have other relevant experiences and delivered quality results but some how that doesn’t even mean anything and in eyes of government I’m quote on quote stupid just because of some paper test… There’s a saying don’t judge a book by its cover and another one is just because someone looks good on paper doesn’t make them the best candidate the one with the worst can be the best. We have normal dialogue no tension at all. I’ll end it off with I’m left disappointed and at the moment I continue to work in the trades. I plan to go to complete my college but will I or not enlist ever again will see. If you interested in my story or would like to know more or get a better understanding let me know I’d be up to talking or writing about it with you more, just let me know:) 👋🏻:)

@@PrairieSailor thank you for clearing that up. That was a deterrent to me exploring CAF further.
Why have more people left then entered the Canadian armed forces over the past 3 years?
Good question! I’m sure there are lots of reasons that are hard to pinpoint.

So I plan on applying as an intelligence officer through the ROTP program. Will I be required to write it? Currently in a civilian uni
INT O is on the list, but it also says it is for Direct Entry Officer (DEO) entry plan. I don’t know if you are eligible with ROTP, you will have to check with your recruiter.
@@PrairieSailor would this still mean I’d write it as apart of the application process or during BMOQ? If you know.
Can I join the Canadian army as an experienced non-Canadian citizen without a residence permit?
You need to be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen to apply.
Thank you for your interest, this is my dream and I am working for it.
I trying to join engineering officer ,I wrote tests unfortunately I can’t past .am I eligible to skip then ?
If you have the appropriate Bachelors degree and you only wrote the CFAT once, yes you should be eligible for the Expedited Application Trial.
@@PrairieSailorno I don’t have Bachelors dgree. I am student's last year of high school. I just did once test.
Would your background check go faster if a brother of yours has already been in the Canadian armed forces
I don’t know. They go faster if your references and employment contacts know we are calling and answer the phone. Sometimes it can be delayed by extended phone tag.
@@PrairieSailor If i only have a college diploma and run a small business (will struggle to find non family references). Theres no chance for me right?
@@mastaaceexclusive It's not as rough as that. They're hurting for people.
I already written my CFAT first attempt and I didn’t pass, will I be eligible on this program? I did my first attempt CFAT on reserve but I wanna switch to regular one so I can do this is that possible?
Yes it should be if you meet all the other criteria.
@@PrairieSailor thank you sailor. You have a big help to me watching your videos since I started my application.
Hi sir I have question I did twice the cfat but I didn’t pass it what the next?
Should I reapply or I can skip the cfat ?
You cannot skip the CFAT if you have written it twice. If you upgrade your education (take an online math course at high school level) you can request a CFAT waiver to write it a third time.
@@PrairieSailor thank you for your kindly information
Hello I'm interested for joining the canadian army
That’s great, you can apply at forces.ca
th-cam.com/video/OU6eEOdPn5Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lKsNSONjZJr8iNRi
This video can help with the application process. Just skip the Navy stuff, the rest is the same.
Hello sir. Thanks for your videos. They are helping many people. Has anyone ever told you that you look a little bit like Alan Jackson? Lol! God bless.
If you were to join the reserves can you still fail your apptitude test?
Why can’t we use calculator in the maths?
Because your tested on your ability to solve the problems on the test. So you have to be able to know how to solve each math question correctly. If you use a calculator.. the it’s not a effective way to evaluate your ability on how to problem solve
I joined 2 years ago, great job, but not what you expect, at all. Get ready for a whole new world. The people that leave the CAF do so mostly because of boredom and lack of deployments in their career. It seems like they, the CAF, are changing things up to fix it.
"For a new world"
Care to share what that comprised of and examples of this boredom that reservists experienced?
There is a lot of variation in experiences depending on where you work and your occupation. Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree with this! I will absolutely join now
Skip thr CFAT and get to interview in a month
Than get hit with security clearance that will take 6-18months lol
All my fellow applicants who were rejected due to anxiety...
At what stage did anxiety get identified and pointed to as the reason for rejection?
Good luck with your application. A list of pre-existing medical conditions can be found here: forces.ca/en/help-centre//#/view/18
@ancamp98 you sound like a solid person. Keep going and let us know on this thread once you enroll!
@@PrairieSailor Thank you. After successful verification and preparation for the next stage, there will also be an option to ask for time to resolve all your affairs with work, etc. before going to basic training?
@@PrairieSailorpretty sad that it takes upto 18 months for a stupid background check
@@tysoncomfort4244The reason for the BC bottleneck has been found as Intergovernmental agency rivalry and refusal to prioritize each other's information requests, simply.
Never heard there was a backlog for CRA processing people's taxes or charging them to pay more, you know why?, because they have been staffed in excess and all roadblocks stopping them from issuing tax requests have been eliminated to zero, like ZERO.
And CRA processes taxes for 40 odd million canadians each year without fail. How can 22,000 CAF applications be bringing an entire countries' recruitment to its knees? It screams something that isn't the most efficient and properly prioritized.
That's how you know what the government prioritizes and what they care about and what they don't.
The folks in HQ & parliament have a way of solving the problem, why are their hands still folded?
they should lower the standard to needing a grade 5 education level
there should still be a CFAT but it should only include the coloring book and crayons section.
Writing my CFAT Wednesday. Guess what I applied for didn’t exclude me from it. Oh well, I got this !
Good luck!
Please where and when did you apply ?
I want to do aerospace engineering, construction engineering, pilot, or social work. I’m currently doing my bachelors degree in Bsc psych and biology. Could you please advise me whether engineering is possible for me or I would have to get a diploma? I have my fitness test booked for next month.
Can the army give me permanent residency..? I would like to apply being in the army is my dream career….
I believe the army should also.. give temporary residencies a chance to sign up,join army and once they have join they can now get there permanent resident or citizen from the army..
How can you join the army when your not even a PR?
@@PrairieSailor Ohdaaaaaang!
Wow, you don't sound like a Russian bot at all!
Grate, I cant reads to good
Reading is pretty crucial though. Are you practicing?
lmao
How about bring back haircuts and proper deportmant
. How about look at why people are leaving. Perhaps fighting for Canada with Trudeau in charge may be part of the issue
The more you remove standards, the more you remove pride, and reasons to stay in. Believe me, I know.
I want to be in the Navy one day
Good luck! I’m here to help answer any questions you may have.
Didn’t watch the video but skipping cfat is a catch I was told you can only get to combat rolls with just high school
To get any more serious like positions you need to have at least a year done in college otherwise forget about bypassing cfat.
Fail first time second time you have to prove with a literal log book of when you studied
Fail second time you gotta go back to high school math in college
Fail again then they will not ever take you gain no more chances
Well you should watch the video. There are dozens of roles including technical trades that qualify for skipping the CFAT with the expedited application trial.
@@PrairieSailor I was told you cannot skip the CFAT in technical rolls for example aviation tech unless you have at least one year completed in college or university. Additionally I was told only completing high school will allow you to skip the CFAT but for combat rolls only otherwise your outta luck unless you’ve got a year completed in university or college.
I’ve got only one class i didn’t finish in college otherwise I passed everything and that wasn’t good enough nor my relevant work experience. I’ve decided not to continue my process and that I’d rather just wait till next year to re take that college course (I’m a welder)
My skills and work experiences show my aptitude and I believe i should have been just let in but my case person said no your not good enough to re do the CFAT. I’m not interested in writing the CFAT again and I’ve just decided that I’ll pause on my process and that I’d rather just go back to college and finish the once class I didn’t get through:)
I wanted and trained and prepared my self a lot a lot and put in a lot of time but I’ve adjusted to what’s met to be will be. I understand how some people say the aptitude test is so easy and so and so I believe it but not everyone is there on same level and that can be education system/person to blame. I’ve studied but to me that test is way over kill that’s my personal opinion. I believe that a person should be considered based on there experiences and if something the military trains you what’s needed and if you don’t make the cut then and your un able to learn then you get cut off. (I believe had of our recruitment system been like this that we’d get more recruits in)
For me when I was told no you can’t skip the CFAT I was pretty caught back. I’ve literally done the job in civilian world and have other relevant experiences and delivered quality results but some how that doesn’t even mean anything and in eyes of government I’m quote on quote stupid just because of some paper test…
There’s a saying don’t judge a book by its cover and another one is just because someone looks good on paper doesn’t make them the best candidate the one with the worst can be the best.
We have normal dialogue no tension at all. I’ll end it off with I’m left disappointed and at the moment I continue to work in the trades. I plan to go to complete my college but will I or not enlist ever again will see.
If you interested in my story or would like to know more or get a better understanding let me know I’d be up to talking or writing about it with you more, just let me know:)
👋🏻:)
I skipped the CFAT for information technician

Quick question since they remove the aptitude test of botswain will that helped because I'm infanteer and I want to put a volunteer ot and I don't remember if my aptitude match the botswain one
I do not believe the new policy makes any difference for changing occupations. I think it is only for entry. I could be wrong, check with your personnel selection officer (PSO).
Ok so if you want to be an officer you put that as your choice and they will train accordingly so long as you pass the requirements, right?
Yes.
@@PrairieSailor Thank you. Theres a lot of scattered information when it comes to our forces, unfortunately. All ive gathered is everything is really on a per person basis.
Thank you sir
I think this is a CAF disaster in the making. What on earth are they thinking of. Boosting recruitment at the expense of intelligence and Canadian citizenship is stupid.
