I Haven't Had One of These in Awhile... (The BEST Les Paul)
A viewer of the show reached out to me because he needed to sell his buckethead les paul studio. Instead of buying, I offered him advice to get the most money for his guitar - but unfortunately scammers tried to defraud him so he came back for my offer. The Buckethead Les Paul is one of my favorites - they are so unique!

I did a deep dive into Buckethead’s music after watching this episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit so, thanks for the recommendation!
Careful man I dove deep into Bucketheads catalog like 5 years ago and now I have trouble listening to anything else. It is vast and fantastic!!! Time well spent.
“Vast and fantastic” is a good way to put it @@Ryan_lipp I’ve been digging in to Buckethead’s catalog and really enjoying it.
After years of searching I finally found one that was the cleanest model I'd seen for resale until this one. That is absolutely pristine, a beautiful addition to your collection!
Man, there’s a couple online right now. One for $8,000 and one for about $11,500. Both look immaculate. This is my dream guitar. If this year hadn’t been so hard I’d grab one. Check em out!
Edit: one is a 2011 and one is a 2010, showing off the 2 different looks he explained in the video. I think I like the 2011 bright white more. The 2010 looks awesome too.
The bucket guitar was in amazing shape. Im surprised they dont mae them anymore
I have a 2009, 1st batch, case sample model. Ebony fretboard, 7 ply binding, and Grover locking tuners. It has a bit of rash from being shuffled around and not sitting in a case. As it was a case sample, I have no case for it. But yeah, if you're lucky enough to just be able to play one of these guitars, it is definitely one of the most unique stringed instruments ever made.
upload a video of it in action - I'd watch it
Yay! I love seeing the Buckethead guitars on here, they're so unique and cool
Every time you demonstrate a Buckethead edition, Trogly, it brings me around to one of the few Collective Soul songs I've ever tried to cover, "Heavy". The introduction of that song sounds a lot like what you do when you demonstrate the killswitch.
The way Buckethead (Brian Carrol) plays using the kill button is very creative. It’s nice to see someone making new sounds since Eddie introduced 2 hand tapping!😅
That's the thing. It's HIS thing. Hearing others using the kill switches like John 5, although he does it very well, just sounds like Buckethead. I remember when everyone did the EVH style after he came about and thinking the same at the time. Guess the kill switches will become part of the landscape more and more.
Jonny Greenwood has done this for years before Buckethead was well known.@@cataclysmicconverter
I have the studio and the standard/Baritone,i love them!great tools, and it cant go wrong with that finish and detail…
Upload some footage of em to your channel.. I wanna hear em and see em played by folks lucky enough to have gotten one
I have the Firefly tribute to this. I replaced the frets with real stainless steel frets, the output jack with a pure tone, three way switch with a switch craft and did some fleor 16 k pickups. It's a beast. Very fun. Firefly even got the body size right and it's chamberd with a 1/4 maple top. Lucky I scored one.
Probably sounds strange, but one of the reasons I got my John5 Tele because I loved how this Buckethead LP looks like. It kinda does look like it could be a Telecaster Buckethead just going by the color.
I love the baked maple fretboard! I have one on a 2012 Gibson Custom Classic LP and its awesome!
From your comment and from Trogly’s observation, it’d seem I might like baked maple fretboards too. I like fretboards to be really really smooth. It shouldn’t matter too much because we guitarists use frets (unlike viola & cello players), but I still can see and feel the pore-ous-ness on many rosewood fingerboards. That woody pore-ous-ness might warm up the tone a bit (which could be desirable depending on the guitar and the playing situation), but I just like the smooth: what can I say ? 🤷♀️ I wonder if I would like Richlite. 🤔
@miahconnell23 I have had two guitars with richlite and sold both. It's supposed to be a replacement for Ebony, but it's not even close. Feels more porous to me than rosewood. It also isn't fast and slick like ebony. The baked maple is somewhere in between rosewood and ebony, in my opinion. If you look up 2012 Gibson Classic Custom on Reverb, you'll see a number of different colors. All of these have baked maple necks. They have gone up quite a bit in value over the years. Eventually, I want to get a couple more of these to add to the collection.
✔️ no fretboard markers on the face of the fretboard: I like ! Chambered construction ! ✔️ the Killswitch is cool for Buckethead & Morello playing tricks, but it’s also nice for when you set your guitar down for a moment ✔️ slightly enlarged body ? ✔️ longer scale to accommodate dropped tunings (dropped tunings both for YOU -AND- they’re a HUGE plus if you’re playing with horns. You can always just put on a capo if you want standard Spanish tuning starting at E. After all this being explained to me, I can get past the look no problem because I’m so pleased by its unusual features. Thank you for for making your videos information-rich, Trogly. Many TH-cam-ers-who are not you-just play single-string leads with distortion, and that doesn’t educate the viewer enough. When you take your surgical camera and look inside chambered and hollowbody guitars: dude: I thank you EVERYTIME you do that.
That thing is GORGEOUS! That riff @16:50 😮 Awesome video as always
Love Buckethead! Love this guitar!
The nitty gritty of Gibson is why I watch your show every day Trogly, it’s helped me in my own purchases I am sure
the best guitars out there ever!! perfect way to celebrate buckethead playing live tonight!
also, ever since 2016 he’s exclusively only used the studios live
I feel this is one of the best les Paul's made. Not because I'm a huge Buckethead mark or anything like that. I do think he is a awesome player. I just feel he helped designed a incredible les paul! Something very different then Gibson's norm. It's a true modern take on a classic design For the modern player! Gibson could easy make a similar platform today . Even adding another string for a 7 string to this model & sell them as a true modern spec les paul. I personally like the toggle in the upper bout!!!!😂
I would love to get one of these!
I think it looks great sounds good too. Liked the Killswitch effects
Buckethead is really good at Atari.
If Les Claypool thinks you're weird, you're certifiably bonkers! The Ballad of Buckethead by Colonel Claypools Fried Bucket of Bernie Brains was my intro to Buckethead, and tells his story well.. He demanded a chicken coop be built in the studio before he plays as well.. strange dude, but his solo in that song will melt faces for sure!
Trogly went all out with the playing in this video, loved it!
I love these guitars.
I would love a Buckethead but with a white gloss maple fretboard.
The Snow Falcon V treatment 👍
Back in the day these were only 4k! I wish I had got one. Love the Bucket! He is so amazing. Thx Trog.
I paid like 2500 new I think, 4000 was MSRP. What do they go for now?
Buckethead was in Primus prior to the GNR thing(which I actually saw live, was not a fan) His signature Gibsons are pretty sweet tho! I would love to get one someday
boy am i glad that the Buckethead model is one of the few humbucker equipped LPs i love the sound of.
I first ran across Buckethead in Guitar Player back in the late 80's/early 90's.
I've never heard any of Buckethead's music, but I do like the overall look of the guitar.
Soothsayer is a great way to jump in
Can you check out the Buckethead copy made by 10ss guitars? see if it's a nice budget alternative instead of the Gibson? Love your stuff man!
The intro music is a whole step lower than normal and I can’t ignore it. 🤣
They should really do an Epiphone version to make it more affordable but true for the fans of the Bucket with less of a guitar budget than what these Gibson's command.
That is one cool looking and sounding Gibson 🤯
The electronics of this is similar to the LP GT except for the kill switch.
The cleans!!!
I really like the white LPs!
Because of one of your other videos, I was introduced to the Buckethead LP; I also only recently discovered his music. In either case, what do you think is a reasonable price range for a nice Buckethead Studio?
You've got to admit if Ozzy thinks it's to gimmicky or wierd it likely is. It's a very strange thing for me. I know its not him but a relative who also plays has been being called bucket head for 20 plus years . But his nickname came from a haircut. The black side of the trust rod cover looks better. Ever since the first time I saw Cheap Trick and they did a Beatles tribute with Rick Neilson playing a white Les Paul with the name The Beatles on back ive wanted a white Les Paul. The yellowing is what has held me back. Shouldn't be any problem any problem tuning to 440 mghz unless there's an issue with the instrument. Being a larger Les Paul I missed what it's weight is.
Ozzy wouldn't agree to Buckethead playing in his mask and costume, F- him!
One of Trogly's favorite guitar
Ahh soothsayer, such a beautiful riff. Loved this episode
Just watched Buckethead play one of those in SF tonight!
It's different. I wouldn't want one but I like that it's different and it sounds really good too 👍
Sounds really good…Thanks for the great review …
The neck pickup split is the best sound
Hey trog I strongly recommend you review and demo a Gibson les Paul slash U.S.A 2010 afd! I just bought one and it is an absolutely killer guitar!
Yo, that intro music was heavy🤘. Love a good BHLPS!
The Buckethead LP is THE guitar I wish had an Epiphone version the most.
Which guitar has Trogly made the most videos about? Buckethead baritone? Captain Kirk SG? Or Adam Jones silver burst?
Another Ace Frehley trick that almost everyone stole from EVH to Bucket Head...lol
Not a Gibson dude per se but if I could only have one guitar..this would be it ..that thing is sick 💯🤙
Ozzy calling someone strange is beyond ironic lol
Buckethead recently sold the white one seen in the clips. There was an interview with the guy who bought it. It basically looked the same from the Soothsayer live video.
I own a 1957 LP special, a 1959 Strat and my PRS Hollowbody is easily my favourite guitar of all time.
As if.......
seeing trogster finally get to play a buckethead after hearing about it for so long really makes me crave more daily dose of guitar information.
i had a studio model from a friend as collateral against a loan i gave him. i loved it!!!!! hands down best guitar i ever played. was a sad sad sad day when he repaid the loan instead of letting buy out the guitar!!!!!!

🔥🤘🔥
Black side truss rod cover. Gives balance with/to the black Gibson name.
Would be better if both were red.
Didnt know the Bucket Head LP was a baritone with a larger body...cool , also I love that Government Flying -V ...Thanks Trogly !
It's not a baritone.
@@filtheejoebut it is?
Nope. Baritone is tuned different. A 27" scale does not make it a baritone.Just like Fender and Gibson use different scales lengths on their basses. BH does not play a baritone guitar either.
@@filtheejoe what? A baritone SCALE length is 27 inches, the tuning does not matter although they are typically in b standard
@@pipespeeps5349 Scale has nothing to do with it. A Strat is 25", and it's not baritone. Gibson EB-0 is 30" and it's not baritone.
The truss rod cover should have been red.
Those things are way out of the regular Les Paul mold they are way cool a reissue would be long overdue but like RDs it's highly unlikely and a custom shop model would be crazy $$$$$$$$$🤘👍
Someone that could use this size in a Les Paul is Christone "Kingfish" Ingram. Not the kill switches, but a normal Les Paul style, just bigger as Kingfish is gi-normous. Les Pauls look like ukuleles on him! Don't see how he manages to play them. Even though he's still a big kid, he has the gift and old soul of a true bluesman. He played down the street the other night, but sold out 2 nights fast before I could snag tix.
Thats the one model Id love to see a white richlite board on.
Yo I am
Appreciating you from MA🎉
Hello Trogly,
I am a new subscriber. ❤
Hmmmm interesting
True, true.
🥇
Still got mine!❤
I once gave a young classmate a ride in my car and a song came on the radio and she said the same thing as you... "I know this song, it's from Guitar Hero!". (No, Honey, it's Pearl Jam)
You kids make me feel so old! Even guitar aficionados don't know who Buckethead is 😢!!
Best sounding Gibson in a studio for a long time. Special guitar and thank you.
What's the song at 16:50?
Why the intro key change????
Z is for late. I was watching Highline Guitars. Chris is an amazing Luthier.
Need one of these, too much money though.
As the Colonel would have said: "It's finger pickin' good!".
R.I.P to the GOAT eddie van halen
Soothsayer 👍👍
Balance happens
Troglys turning into a rockstar !
I think this is the best playing you've ever done on this channel. You can tell how much fun you were having. And I loved hearing those Buckethead riffs on this guitar - it really nails the tone (unsurprisingly). Now if only I had the giant spider fingers to be able to handle a 27" scale like him...
LPBHS. Les Paul Buckethead Signature. that's what my sig. has under the pup. thats what I thought mine meant.
I wish Gibson would do a limited USA run and a production Epiphone run
I hate Gibson for not producing more of these. It’s literally impossible to get
Dang is reverb really that bad now. I sold a lot of guitars and gear on reverb a couple years ago , thank goodness no one tried to scam me. I would ship the pedals to people, but for the guitars I did local pickup only.
not a fan but everybody cant like the samething
I think you could call it 'Ghost Rider in the sky'
Trog, on a baritone at that scale, you wouldnt have to use heavier gauge strings, so you wouldnt have to enlarge the nut.
That is the self destruct button/and/or switch😅
A baritone guitar seems like a good way for a bass player to go through their guitar phase😂😂😂
Sooth Sayer is my Jam this axe has nice Toan🐸 Probably not leaving ur collection
👍
Greetings Andy
@@sgt.grinch3299 G'day Sgt
I like the Buckethead Les Paul because it has 24 Frets
Would be funny if the man himself ends up buying it, I remember a while back hearing about a large chunk of his collection getting stolen. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy
I think its possible the reason Gibson hasn't produced the larger body in a standard finish/burst would be the cost of the top.
The extra cost to buy oversized Figured Maple Blanks would most certainly impact the MSRP enough that Gibson isn't willing to go through the trouble or take the risk.
That's a shame as I believe an oversized Les Paul would be extremely popular.
Great content Austin, thank you
Yeah it’s a solid color finish so they could make it all mahogany and shrug it off
@@ManOrWomanIDK yeah, 3 or 4 piece tops of either maple or mahogany.
TBH, IMHO, they could make an oversized Baritone Les Paul out of Alder and it would still be very popular.
How's it going HK? Good to see you on this channel some more 👍
@@jonathanhudak2059 Howdy to you both! Always good to see you guys here. ✌
@@cataclysmicconverter likewise!
That’s a great clean example. Good info- I didn’t realize that the body was bigger on these.
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
I never realized it was a baritone. Lol. I thought he just had extra frets.
Someday! If Gibson every does rerelease these I'll be first in line
Imagine a crazy upside down world where Gibson made its toggle tips from shatterproof plastic.
I like when the body is scaled up on baritone guitars (like this one and the Tom Anderson Bari-tom). It allows proper pickup placement for the scale. I personally think it’s weird to *not* use baritone gauge strings and tune to B. If you want to play the standard tuning riffs you’re used to, just move up a string.
It has that GnR sound ..lol
They are way Kool!! I could see myself playing around with it and fitting it in a band situation!! Kool beans Trogs!!
The stretch limo Les Paul. Requires practice before getting your chauffeur’s license.
