It's unbelievable. There are certain jobs where physical fitness is a requirement in order to effectively to your job. Cops, correctional officers, etc is obviously one of those jobs. He talks about "safety" and "security risks" and I'd argue being that obese for a job that requires a minimum level of physical fitness is more of a safety concern or security risk than some random dude filming the outside of a prison.

I'm a prison guard in NY. As a prison guard we do have peace officer status in NY. But we can't stop people, anyone, from filming or taking pictures of the prison UNLESS they step onto prison grounds. If they do it from the sidewalk or street there is absolutely nothing we can do or say. If they DO step onto prison property all we can do is escort them off prison grounds. And asking for ID like in this video is a joke and laughable at best. Prison guards don't have any way to run your ID like Police do. What are they going to do with your ID??? Stare at your picture???

AS a 10 1/2 yr correctional veteran, we were explicitly taught that our authority ended at the property line when dealing with the public. If we spotted somebody at the property perimeter we were to observe and report not interact with. Also, the style of language we used with the public was different than with the inmates. A good CO can be hard and fair with the inmates and polite and respectful to the public at the same time.

Michigan Department of Corrections just recently finished paying off 100 million dollar lawsuit because the guards were raping the women prisoners. They settled out of court. They denied any wrong doing but paid out 100 million. I would think 100 million buy a lot of lawyers if you're innocent.
