An Unexpected Vet Visit for our Alligator

- While refilling her pool, Rex chewed up her siphon and I think she may have eaten part of it... So off to the vet we go for radiographs! I just REALLY hope she didn't ingest a piece big enough that would require surgery.

emily and ed doing the “what’s that in your mouth? stop chewing and give me that, let me put my hand in your mouth” dog owner routine with an ALLIGATOR requires some trust, man poor rex :(
Hello person 😁
It helps that her teeth are kind of messed up and Rex is stunted
I was looking after a dog about 2 years ago, and on a walk, he picked up a discarded nappy (diaper for Americans) which someone had decided to leave in the middle of the field. I managed to trick him into dropping it with food before shutting him in a different room, because I didn't want my hands to be that involved with some random child's poop
Poor rex
Lol it’s a universal pet/parent/care giver routine 😂
Cat owners: STOP EATING PLASTIC
Cat: *chews on bag*
Emily: STOP EATING PLASTIC
Rex: *eats siphon*
My cat will search out and eat elastic bands. He can even open drawers to get to them.
Your cat eats plastic too? My cat, Elim, loves to chew on plastic shopping bags. I had resolved this by going reusable, but with the pandemic, I've had to switch back. At least it forces me to put away everything as soon as I get home.
My cat(we have 3, only 1 does this) chews plastic but she LOVES plastic tape. The adhesive is like kitty crack
omg i thought my cat was the only one lol. she doesnt bite the plastic tho, she just runs in the room all crazy, trots over to a bag, and starts licking it...😂
same situation, different animals, different plastic items
I find it funny how Rex would do the same thing dogs do:
*Dog is chewing something weird
“Hey what’s that in your mouth”
_chewing intensifies_
My dog Cujo does this too often
Yup my dog bailey gets some plastic or a sock and she chews it and then when i try to get it she moves her head and SWALLOWS the plastic but I usually get the sock (long story sorry ;w;)
This can also be applied to toddlers
This can basically be applied too anything
It's funny honestly she is a reptile but at the same time she is like an alot more dangerous and aggressive dog but is trained very well to Identify that people are not food with her chow time frisbee to notify her that she is gonna get something to eat
“She was just weighted today. She is 35 pounds.” Hold up, are you telling me my 5 month old puppy weights as much as a four foot long American alligator? She is a retriever pit bull mix, and most of her qualities are that of a pit bull.
"malformed and stunted alligator" so yea retrievers and bullies are anyway big dogs so checks out. Just fyi incase you didn't know a real four year old alligator would be much larger.
@@blackgrizly9522 she is 35 years old as of today, not 4 years old (34 is more reasonable at this time)

@@Griffman1231what did rewriting the comment add?
I think she got stronger because the water is finally deep enough to exercise!
Was just going to say that the fact that she did this for the first time is probably because she got her new top delux pool and is enjoying herself. Can't wait to see her in the new facility! :D
That does give an explanation
Everyday since she got out of that tiny wooden box permanently she gets a little stronger
that makes so much sense!
I mean she literally had a kitty pool for like four years.
Emily: Hasn't made a Rex episode in a while.
Rex:
Rex:
Rex: crunch
She’s jealous of Ally, the new big lizard in the house(though could anyone blame her? Alaska is adorable!)
I first found their channel through Rex videos, and especially liked the fish eating one (though that must've been hell for Emily). So I thought I was seeing things reading the thumbnail. Big dejavu moment. Now, though I'm so glad she's okay!
Lol
Rex’s mood getting home is me on my way out from work.
The fact that she is so strong shows just how healthy she's gotten. Rex is amazing and I absolutely adore her. I wonder if part of the reason that she did attack her Siphon is because she got the upgraded tube and because of that amount of space she decided now was a good time to try and om nom the Siphon and show it whose boss.
she's like a toddler, the worst things happen while you look away for ONE second
Honestly tho 🤣 I have an almost toddler and boy do they love to do exactly what they know they're not supposed to, the second you turn your back.
My son even shakes his head no while he's doing the thing 🤦🏼♀️ having a pet of any kind is just having a toddler, but for longer 🤣
Yeah I have a 1 year old boy and his name is aiden and when I look away for one minute he is gone and he will hide under his bed
Yeah I can confirm. One time I was babysitting my mom's friend's baby, I almost had a heart attack when I saw he had chewed through some tissues and climbed up on the table to get to a pair of pens.
Lol
True😅
Emily sounds like a mom dropping her Naughty child off at school: “I hope it goes well I will have to have my fingers crossed. There she goes..good luck...Rex behave.”
The video was literally at that point as i was reading that. Emily said it at the same time i read it

That's honestly what's required for gators. Most people who have gators and crocs are not able to care for them responsibly. Rex has been one of the few exceptions I've seen.
@@amandalucky8211 it's amazing to see how much Rex has grown just in a few years of being with them, especially after 30+ years of malnutrition and cramped space.
Yea
The fact you immediately contacted and went to a vet for a potential ingested item is just, yes. The number of people who watch and know their pet has eaten something and wait until their animal is near dying from a blockage is far too high. No your dog will not just "pass" those socks.
Emily is a responsible pet owner.

I get after my techs so often for forgetting their lead covers or radiation meters. Wouldn't worry about that little bit of plastic and would agree that she looks great. Glad you mentioned at the end the floating ribs and alternate route for removing foreign bodies in gators!

Me to my dog while he was glaring at me all day after I had to take him to the vet for eating a grape. Instead of an IV drip they just injected a lot of Saline under his skin (he’s got a lot of extra skin, just never fully grew into it and he’s still pretty young and a little wiry) so we decided to call him a “gusher” until it dissipated, he was not pleased.
