I think the guy was speechless he couldn't believe vampires really existed. Surprise lol
this is honestly one of best vampire films ever not twilight a vampire sparkling in the sun this is the root of what vampires were about dark, evil, cold hearted i love it brilliant film :)
Still perplexed WHY they haven't done a movie or series of Anne Rice's "The Witching Hour" series...or at least the first book. I've read many of Rice's books...not all are good. But "Interview" and "Tale of the Body Thief" were the best in my opinion. Lots of good movies to be made out there...good storytellers need good screenplays. I enjoyed this movie and felt it was well done. Sorry Mr. Pitt didn't enjoy doing it more - heard he didn't like having to portray angst every day! Angst people, ANGST! LOL.
That still hurts, that they never made the Witching Hour into a TV show. There's no way it could be done as a movie as the book itself is MASSIVE and has too many small details that altogether, create the world of the Mayfairs, their lovers, their lives and their encounters with a mysterious being known only as Lasher. It needs to be a single season TV show at the very least for it to work. I could see maybe a younger Rebecca DeMornay or Bryce Dallas Howard as Rowan and maybe Jim Belushi as her husband Michael Curry. Maybe Anthony Stewart Head could play Aaron Lightner. I have no idea who could play Stella Mayfair. Any actress in her 60s with a decent background in drama could play the surviving Mayfair aunts to Rowan. Unfortunately, we'll never know. Rest in peace, Mrs. Rice, your passing is a huge loss for American literature.
Remember kids, Twilight wasn't well received with film critics nor has any film adaptation for the series been awarded praise...Interview with the Vampire however (and the rest of the Vampire Chronicles) is a CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED BOOK and FILM.
Well you see Anne Rice incorporated a lot of homoeroticism in the books, and with the vampires. That was one of the things that was so badly wrong with QotD, the inherent themes of Rice's books are missing, and, completely oblivious to the director, writers and cast. There is alot of homoeroticism in Interview, but it is subtle, not overt like other films. And that subtlety is why the film is so good, in my eyes. The 80s and 90s gave us brilliant vampires.
I wish they made all the other vampire series with Tom cruise and brad Pitt in it it's stupid how they made different people play them I hate it when people do that!!!!!! Brad Pitt and Tom cruise are soo CUTE in this movie best vampires ever way better then the twilight series :D
Was never quite sure what to make of the relationship between Lestate and Louis. When they first "meet" (ie, when Lestate first attacks Louie).. ..the attack is borderline homoerotic but I'm not so sure if Lestate was physically / sexually attracted to Louis or if this was just Lestat's "way" of trapping his sugar-daddy... or... ...if Lestat's vampirism is an extention of his sexuality & orientation or if vampirism in general is an extension of sexuality to one degree or another. Watching a male vampire attack another male certainly seems to have (homo??) sexual undertones and is not necessarily easy, comfortable (and is almost offensive) to watch. Yet, further complicating matters... as the story of Lestat and Louis unfolds we see that their relationship isn't really sexual or even physical but is more of a mentor / pupil though I also get the impression that those two don't always like each other (especially from Louise's end). Hmmmmmm???
It kind of was.Intentionally. The relationship between Louis and LeStat is meant to be that of a couple, and if you notice the people that LeStat often preys on, they are often young, and male or female. The vampires are essentially bisexual. Intentionally so.
my mom said I could choose my gifts this year 4 X-mas and i went 2 my room and came back with the list of all The Vampire Chronicle books im missing.she looked at me like, why am i not surprised.me,"what?! I love Claudia,Louis, Marius, Armand, and Lestat!" my mom,"how about something else?"me,"the movie 'Interview With the Vampire' would be good.".lol. I love the work Anne Rice does.
There are some elements of horror in the book, like when Louis meets that Vampire gone wrong in Europe and he and Claudia have to fight it off. That shit was scary.
I wonder why they haven't made a sequel to the movie version of "Interview with a Vampire"? Is Anne Rice afraid that the sequel won't be as good as the first movie or something? It's just like how the sequel to the movie version of "The Golden Compass" hasn't been made yet. It's driving me freaking crazy!!
Warner Bros owned the movie rights to this for a while. They made a Queen of the Damned movie that nobody liked and the franchise's been dead since. The Golden Compass was considered a flop, so the rest of the trilogy won't get made.
Quite simply it's because "Interview" is the only decent book she's written. "The Vampire Lestat" was nowhere near as good, but was readable. All the others are shite.
Wilsh B The rest of the saga was very successful and that's why it exists in the first place. I agree that Interview was unique in its nihilism and darkness. But that's because of the place Anne Rice was when she wrote it. With it's flaws, Lestat was probably the best one IMO, it told the best story of the best vampire, and it set up the basis for the rest of the saga. The next ones did feel like minor adventures, but some of the other vampire's books were rather good, like Armand's, and Marius' Blood&Gold.
As of 2015 Universal bought the rights for all of her Vampire Chronicles, Possible movies in the near future,Also I heard Anne Rice wine is writing the script for Tales of the body thief
That and the bit where he kills a priest on the floor of the church...two most impressive sections from a dull book totally missing from the film. And the Hollywood ending of the movie is dire.
Tom Cruise was the star of this film. Completely immersing himself into the character Tom is just brilliant. He truly is one of the biggest megastars and still continues to be. The people who focus more on his eccentricity are just losers who could never reach his level. Rice, the author of the novel, was vehemently opposed to casting Tom as lestat thinking he was just an amateur actor. When she finally saw the film she paid a whopping 7.4k for a 2 page article praising toms performance and mentioned how she royally screwed up and apologised to him.
Yeah - you're right - and too late now all the actors are older..lol. I remember I was so happy with this one and downright po'd with QotD... A great director needs to start from scratch and do all of the books properly! Well at least that would be my vote! : )
I actually watched this thinking it would be fun to become one, if I could just find a bunch of criminals to feed on xD I've been an Anne Rice vampire fan a while so I've read books besides Interview, in Lestat's and others' points of view. Louis is the most morbid about it.But you're right. I love the portrayal of vampires who still have humanity. much better than stupid horror stuff trying to make them like ugly brainless zombie things.

Of course, I love the movie very much and I agree with everything you just said. However, some people like to use the word gay as an insult. I may have interpreted it wrong. Who knows. Maybe that person didn't meant to make it sound offensive. I'm saying I'm against homosexuality, I'm saying people often use the word itself as an insult and I wouldn't want people insulting Anne or her books and movies.
The music maybe the only good thing about it, but the film drowns it out. I feel fangs in Interview are alot better than those in QotD, but that may be my inherent hate for the film coming through (I saw Blade 2 in the year Qotd came out, and found the vampire elements in that so, so much better. And it beat QotD in the cool culture element of QotD, hands down.) True Blood. I believe the design of the fangs is more snake like, to make it look like retractable fangs one might see in a snake.
I just picked up this book which was written in the 70's and a couple of months later this movie came out. Mostly it was close to what I imagined, except I didn't see Tom Cruise as Lestat
I agree! The only good things I can say about QotD is great music and good fangs! LOL! One thing I hate about vampire shows or movies is huge fake looking fangs (like True Blood fangs - they are horrible!)
I think Queen of the Damned ruined everything. Seriously, you know you are in the land of Stinkville, when Stuart Townsend is involved in a film. QotD came out in the same year as Blade 2, and while the latter is not perfect, the film is infinitely superior to QotD, and, in many ways, follows the same 'vein' as Interview.
