What solutions do you propose Janet? I've been a farrier for 32 years. My first line of defense is training. Then if it is even possible I use a veterinarian to give the animal drugs to keep them calm. I have used a twitch to keep the animal calm in order to do a job that is so physically challenging that most people can't even phatham how hard it is. This animals only hope is to get its feet fixed. If you have constructive advice on a better solution I'm all ears. Many people comment on a task that they have no clue how to accomplish a better way. If you are one of those who has a better way and has a track record of proving it i would love to know what you have to say. I have developed training methods based upon leadership and trust that work amazing. I have found that getting veterinarians to respond has become more and more difficult. When you have an animal that can't move because their feet are so bad sometimes you have to resort to twitching them so they will hold still enough to get their feet trimmed. Before you make a comment like you made please think about a possible solution that you can provide.

That cruel way of twisting the nose only assures that donkey that humans cause pain and hacking off the. Hooves with that huge blade, digging and slicing down the frog( soft pad) of the hoof isn't healthy as that part is a cushion for the food. This is a hack job at its best and my sadness is for the donkey who has no say is the poor donkey.

How ordinary and rude, the animals are being mistreated, the hoovering they do is too deep causing bleeding, and when they finish they do not deign to seal the wound with iodine to protect them from infections.
The red you see in the hoof is not from trimming. You see there is no running blood just redness. The red is bruising as the hoof is growing from the pressure of the bad hoof shape. That's why the red is down inside, the worse the hoof gets the more bruising. Watch "the hoof gp" and you will see bruising in cattle hoofs from farmers half way around the world from China. Hope this helps you understand that he is not trimming the hoof too deep.
It's all because the ground in those cages is much to soft. So is no possibility to shorten the hoofs natuarly. Donkeys live normaly in stoney regions.
