    I agree with others that this young caribou was “wounded or in a weakened state”. Caribou are known for both sprint speed AND long distance endurance. A brown bear’s speed/endurance is far outclassed by a heathy caribou.

    • @misguidedangel6550
      @misguidedangel6550 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup the caribou was hurt, most likely bleeding, that's why the bear could smell him from such a great distance. Might have even survived an earlier attack. Its why the caribou stayed in the water,it was it's only hope. If the caribou was healthy he would have been long gone

    Well for someone who watched hundreds of hours of Nat.Geo and other outdoors channels about all sort of animals, I am very impressed with this bear. I always believed bears are scavengers and if they kill its usually because pray is already sick or injured... but to see it chase like this for miles while sniffing trail like a hunting dog, I would never believe it. Amazing and scary at the same time.

    I am assuming the Caribou had been running from the bear already? it had an impressive head start and the Bear still caught up. I have to admire that bears endurance, I mean when you think of its size, bulk and the fact it ran and didn't miss one single beat, drenched itself in water which I am guessing would have weighed it down even more? it just went for it! dragged it a good measure of yards too. Well done Bear, I think people tend to forget just how extremely versatile and adaptable these animals can be when they really want something. I hope he got to eat his meal.

    On land, Caribou can run up to 60-80 KM hour, while grizzly bear can run around 55 KM per hour. When Caribou crossed the water, instead of running away on land, it jumped into the water again and that turned out to be a fatal mistake. But what a chase by Grizzly Bear.
