- Teaching the basics on how to add particle effects onto an avatar for VRchat, dont be the person who overdoes it and ruins the fun for everyone, dont go crazy please. Leave questions below and I'll answer them the best I can, as well as requests on showing how to make a certain effect.

ok so i think i found a fix if your particle disappears when you put it in your hand, when you put it in your wrist or hand it messes up the scale so say if you put your scale to like .5 before, put it back to .5 because for some reason it changes when you put it into the body

Okay, so the effects work but when i use the avatar in vrchat it's like halfway into the floor. How to fix that?
Your height in unity, it needs to be set to where the feet are at 0, and the particle should stay with the hand if you follow his tutorial

So, once I do this, am I able to delete the duplicate? If I want to add more particles later should I keep it?
You need to keep the duplicate, basically you transfer from the OG avatar to the dupe whenever an effect is active, to add another effect you can delete the dupe but follow the steps so that when you make another dupe for effect number 2 the new dupe would have both effects working, then just map it to a different hotkey/hand sign

How do i port it to quest i can change the shaders of most of the particle but not the parent of the particle like explosion 2 it has a bunch of things inside it then i change the shaders but the shaders of the explosion part i cant change the shader of it

You need to add a rigid body and a fixed joint to tie the particles to the bone. I had the same problem as you. If you don't have it set up correctly it will show typically where your hand was when your avatar broke.

All I want to do is attach a smoking cigar so the smoke continuously rises up, I have tried literally everything. Every time I set the blunt as a fixed joint to the hand's rigidbody absolutely nothing happens at all. They will not move together, this is literally driving me mad trying to work this out.
If I make the cigar a child it appears and works but the smoke will tilt upside down if I hold the cigar upside down. There has to be a solution to this
Honestly im surprised daily by how many people still comment on my video despite me not playing VRC in so long. I dont remember a ton about it but im sure there is some way you can find a particle that free floats rather then directional or something along those lines?

If the particles dont play in anim tab, they broke like the first model you tried using? I cant get mine to play at all =/
If you are using the current VRC unity version, its a lil different step, by now I figure its to late but all the same, for the next person that looks. its play, not simulate.

when i was following you the moment i moved the effect to the avatar it didnt vanish it just got tiny to the point where you can't see it

Do you have to duplicate each time for different animations?
uhh its been a while but id say yes, if it doesnt work after the fact delete the duplicates and re try
Im trying to use multiple effects at once, how do i do that? under the animator tab in inspector i can only put one effect in the controller.
just click on add property and choose the other effect you want to put

How do you make certain particles show up at times you want. I want to make like a particle light show, go to the flow of the music I have, but all the particles just spawn and play all at once. Thank you.
Youll have to go through and match up music with each individual particle. For example on my chidori I set a delay time on the long lasting effects, and set the first effect to last only 2 seconds. Which in turn makes it so the "charging up" type particles stay for 2 seconds while the word "chidori" is pronounced, then they go away and the long lasting effects arrive

Hey I got a question, having this issue, I don’t know how to combine effects, tryin to have like 9 different effects and a song, where effects activate at specific times, I got no clue how to do so
ehhh its pretty complex but youd have to layer the effects so that they would activate at certain times, then replay the effect to see if you have the timing right. I cant remember if i do it in this video or not but you can make it so effect 1 lasts like 6 seconds then ends but then effect 2 starts with a delay of 6 seconds making it so effect 2 starts when effect 1 ends
Nifuji yep, I set them is a way like this, music start at 0 seconds and plays until 177 seconds, effect 1 begins at 46 seconds and is continuous for 180 seconds, effect 2 56 seconds lasts 177, effect 3 starts at 66 and goes until 177, then at 76 effect 4, 5, 6 and 7 begin, but I don’t know how to make them work on animation properly, I did all the steps, would it be that because the model has custom face emotes it’s canceling these emotes?
I go sooooo long between making avatars that I keep coming back here for a refresher each time.

Keep duping and adding more particles to each dupe, make sure all dupes are unchecked, then have them spawn in a mushroom fashion.

yo how do you change the hand gesture i'd like to know
At around 11 minutes in when im messing with keyframes, you add in which parts oif the hand/fingers you need and adjust values. Then copy/paste onto the next key frame like I did the animation and it should work
