    You are awesome sir, I currently work for a police department in Texas and I am very interested in joining the DEA. Your videos have been very beneficial to understanding the process for each agency.

    Does anyone know if you have to list every single job you ever had on the résumé?

    I have literally been working on my resume for the marshals all week. I learned from being rejected from the DOE Courier job last month that, like you said, the HR people truly don't care or know what they are looking at. All they want to see are keywords and an explanation of experience that a 3 year old can understand so they can assign it a score.
    So what I did for this one (because I want it more) I basically took the KSA's (they were called "competencies" in the announcement) and just made them sub headings for each relevant job I was listing. That way the applicable experience for each competency is laid out as clearly and easily as possible and they can see exactly how something relates to a key word in the announcement. Then I wrote a short paragraph explaining the relevance of each competency to show that I understand it and bulletpoint some actual examples to demonstrate my knowledge.
    The whole thing is 20 pages right now and I am working on cutting it down, but I can't see how they could possibly reject it on qualifications. Wish me luck and I'll update once I know if I got referred or not.

      How did it end up going? I have heard that federal resumes should be 6 to 7 pages long which is crazy compared to standard resume. Have you had any success with federal resumes?
      When this video originally came out a year ago I was supposed to be complete with my bachelors this month, but life happened and now it is looking like late October or November. I'm also turning 38 next week so I will also need a waiver for most Fed law enforcement, so chances are witling away.

    Hey, I am graduating college in the spring of 2021 (3.5 gpa) with absolutely no experience in law enforcement. Should I list my previous retail jobs or just leave it blank?

    • @dwgangsat

      I would list those jobs. When I applied to work for a local police department my only job experience was working at UPS and a movie theater. I still got the job.
      I hope this helps

    Off topic question. How do you go about VA disability??? From what I understand is that its a military medical record and you are not obligated to disclose any of that medical information during the hiring process. What are you thoughts on this? Thank you

    • @federallawenforcementcaree9900
      @federallawenforcementcaree9900  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are disabled from service related, you should receive a 10 pt hiring preference. Under the ADA, nobody can discriminate against you unless you have a medical condition that does not meet the requirements of the position. Every LEO job has a list of medical standards alone with the classification, so obviously any chronic medical problem would be a judgment call on the part of the agency physician. So my answer is that it would depend on why a person has a disability...if it is stress related or something like that, a physician will have to sign off on the suitability review. I know, believe me.

    • @bb5op585
      @bb5op585 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@federallawenforcementcaree9900 thank you for your response. Do you recommend disclosing that you have a disability rating and what the rating is for during the hiring process? and if you dont would they find out anyway? Thank you

    • @jchfuture
      @jchfuture 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bb5op585 If you want to claim 10 point preference, you have to have a SF-15 form as well the form that shows your rating. You can download that from your e-benefits profile.

    I was wondering if you have a suggestion on what civilian department would correlate best for US Marshalls? City, County, or State? The Marshalls is the end goal for me, but I'm not sure which route I should pursue. I want to go the Marshalls with the best experience I can, especially experience that will transfer easily.

    Could you make a video comparing local/state police and federal police (designated as 0083 series on USA JOBS)? Such as differences in powers of arrest, jurisdiction, FLETC training vs local police academy training? Ive applied for LAPD And DOD police positions and seeking knowledge on both.

    • @dwgangsat
      @dwgangsat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Local police generally do more traditional police work such as answering calls for service(domestics, shootings robbery etc). State police generally serve as highway patrol. They mainly do traffic enforcement on the highways. Federal police usually conduct security type operations for their respective agency's building(FBI building, Secret Service building etc).
      So in your case, the LAPD would be local so you would be answering calls for service and some traffic enforcement.
      The DoD police would do more security of buildings. For example you might be assigned to guard the Pentagon. So you wouldn't be doing traditional police work but more security type work.
      As far as the academy goes I can only talk about the local police academy from experience but from the looks of it and from what other fmr members have told me the academies are generally similar but federal academies such as FLETC focus more on enforcing federal crime vs local/state crime.
      I hope this helps.

    What do you think are the best jobs straight out of college to have a good resume for a federal agency besides being a cop

      If you are looking to go into law enforcement, there are many options If you have a strong GPA, you can go directly to a federal agency. You can also start out in uniformed federal agencies and move to criminal investigator positions.

      If you do not have relevant experience, a degree with a 3.0 overall GPA can be used to substitute for experience. If you have relevant experience, the degree is not as important.
