  • Sensei Yoshiharu Osaka teaching Kata Jion - #3 Akita´s Japan Tour: Shotokan Karate Class in Tokyo, Hoitsugan Dojo
    On one of the last Japan-Tours with Shinji Akita, we had the great honour and fantastic opportunity to train under Karate legend Sensei Osaka, multiple JKA World Champion and winner of the All Japan Championships. Osaka Sensei, called "the ultimate technician" and seen as the best by many great masters, is a role model for Karateka all over the world. This truly memorable class took place in the famous Hoitsugan Dojo of Master Masatoshi Nakayama...
    Thank you so much to Osaka Sensei for this unforgettable, highly instructional and inspirational class. A big thank you also to Masahiro Nakayama Senpai for allowing us to train in this legendary dojo!

    Videos like this should have a bajillion views. Back in the 80s (when I began practicing Shotokan), Osaka Sensei was already legendary for his technique (and, of course, kata). Here, you get a real taste of his expertise on body dynamics/movement -- little details about which many practitioners don't think twice, or receive instruction. Those karateka are indeed fortunate. Well done, and thank you for posting.

    I was very fortunate to have been a member of a very good club in K.U.G.B. The KATA they are doing is second Dan, the last one I got up to. The Club I was practicing at, allways explained what the moves were for. I also won the National Championships, in 1992. It saved my life on many occasions through muscle memory. I used to be able to do all 3 splits, but find it hard to even sit down now lol. You take out of It, what works for you. The basic head block, is practiced that many times, you instantly block without even thinking. It does really work. I mixed my Martial Arts later on, providing me with a wide range of techniques, before U.F.C. came out. I started at the age of 6 & had to sneak in, as I couldn't afford the fee. I was on the British Squad. I joined the Forces after that. I wish I could have passed down my knowledge. Situational Awareness plays a big key. I saved quite a few clients during my Close Protection days. How fast life goes!

      Thank you so much Sensei Akita ... I'm glad and honored that you answered me. I hope one day I can meet you.
      1st dan 1974 old school, pupil of Bruno Baleotti, Hiroshi Shirai and once in my life I had the honor of a short soft Kumite with Sensei Taiji Kase, which we all have always loved.
      When I saw you 4 months ago on TH-cam I immediately understood how much value there was in your teachings of correct and perfect execution of the style and I returned to train alone at home with you, still learning many new and valuable things, at 63 years old.
      Thanks thanks thanks.
      I wish I could reward you for these lessons.

    Merci et mes respects à Akita Senseï que je ne manquerai pas de rejoindre à son prochain passage dans ma région des Pyrénées-Atlantiques (Pays-Basque).

      I have since researched and found what a prominent Sensei he is, only younger generation than the myths we older Karateka are familiar with, the likes of Nishiyama RIP, Enoeda RIP, Kanazawa, Kase RIP, and Shirai from Shotokan, and T. Suzuki RIP from Wadoryu.

    Unfortunately, typical shotokan, mini details about how to look good but never a clear explanation of why the move is done. No disrespect meant. Sad.

    • @bradlong7941
      @bradlong7941 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It brought back a lot of memories for me. And the reason I walked away from the JKA/Shotokan realm so many years ago. That is a close quarter combat kata. Filled with up close in your face self defense movements. Yet they go about it like the defender must move with the grace of an Olympic athlete champion.
