Why couldn’t they get an engine and transmission from Ford or GM?
Wiki says they couldn't get one from Chrysler so they decided to make their own. They should have just used the Volvo B18 in the first place!
@@alexandermoore2982 You’re not wrong with Volvo engine, especially when you can get 250 BHP out one. I’d have equally considered the Rover V8 or Ford Crossflow too.
@@chrishenniker5944 I just did some more reading, apparently the French government forbade Facel from using foreign engines at first and all the major French OEMs refused. The resulting debacle meant that the French government finally authorized 'foreign' engines, and of course nothing was more reliable than a redblock! This is keeping in mind that whatever they used had to be under the 2.0L mark because of the gigantic tax imposed by the French government for anything larger.
